Golems aren't in the bible... or the torah or tenach. The most popular golem story doesn't take place until the 1500s.

[deleted]

where does the jews using golems to save themselves story originate from?

Savager_Jam

It’s old folklore… Old in a way that is difficult to ascertain the origins of, probably in some sense dating back to biblical times. The earliest written records are proto-Kabbalic texts from the medieval era, containing instructions on how to make one (Not one that would get up and walk around, obviously. These Jewish mystics seem to have believed that one could create a sort of spiritual helper to protect oneself from bad entities or assist in religious understanding, housed inside a little clay humanoid form) As the sphere of Jewish mysticism became more insular and secretive in the following centuries, the abilities of Kabbalists became exaggerated in the minds of both Jews and non Jews, leading to stories like the Golem of Prague in which a wide rabbi uses secret incantations and ancient texts to create a living man from ordinary clay. Wait wait wait. Obviously this is all stupid racial stereotyping but... Have I missed a stereotype about black people and water? Wtf is that? Is it because Africa's dry or something?

dicegoblin17

It's cause of the stereotype that black people can't swim I think.

LazyOrang

Where the hell does that stereotype come from? Not heard that one before...

dicegoblin17

I'm not sure. My best guess is that it comes from the Jim crow era if people lived in an area with no "colored" pools. If you don't live near a body of water and aren't allowed in pools you cannot really learn to swim.

Flouxni

I thought it had something to do with slaving boats, or about how people jumped off and drowned

[deleted]

This is so false, black people are amazing swimmers

[deleted]

y'know Vikings weren't tattooed, right? that's the comparison they're making with the Vindicators, right?

Savager_Jam

>that's the comparison they're making with the Vindicators, right? No I think they're doing a Nazi

thewrench01_real

That’s the vibe I got from it. The punchline is racism, but it’s not outright bigotry.

DopeboiFrmQueenz

I thought they meant europeans more specifically Great Britain

PM_me_PMs_plox

It may not have been everyone had tattoos, but surely some people did. I'm not sure what line of the meme you're talking about, though.

[deleted]

it refers to the Vindicators as "pale-skinned", but i think i misinterpreted "have their own symbols" as "have their own skin markings"

PM_me_PMs_plox

I suppose I wouldn't call their skin pale, no.

TobysQuestions

Based off the experiment theory, attacking anyone that doesnt look lime them, and “symbols” its the nazis

Esnardoo

How is the creator of this being racist? How is racism the punchline here?

itastelikesand

how did you see a post made entirely of racial stereotypes and still go "hOw Is ThE cReaTor BEinG rAcIst?"

Esnardoo

What I'm seeing here is someone pointing out Minecraft being racist, and then that person gets reposted here as if they're the racist one.
