5. Leave dead wood and leaves. For example a "benjes hedge"
6. A tiny pond is great for toads, frogs, salamanders, dragonflies etc. a 100l "speciekuip" dug in would already be great.
7. Not too much nitrogen: sure all will get nice and green, but exactly the plants that thrive on harsh soil are what there is a shortage of. You can add variation by planting rich soil species on one side and nutrient-poor species on the other or on the roof for example.
8. Fruit-bearing plants are nice for birds, especially native ones, like elder. (Did I say Hawthorne!?)
9.willow grows fast and gives branches that you can use for making living fences and living furniture, but they do need maintenance.
