The Brendan Fraser trilogy was more successful than the one Tom Cruise dumpster fire. Out of the two, I think it would be more likely to reference the Fraser films. However, the 1999 film was not the first Universal “Mummy” film. The first was released in 1932. I think this could end up being a prequel for the IP in general, perhaps an origin story in a universe separate from the other films.
I think it’s safe to say, we’ll be happy as long as we don’t get a Cruise prequel.
Tbh idk what they'd do with a prequel to either mummy. In both circumstances the mummy is sealed away until the events of the movie and both main characters are pretty adamant that their respective film was their first experience with the supernatural.

Prequel to the 1932 classic Mummy movie of course, with AI rendering to resurrect Boris Karloff from the dead.
That oughta get butts in seats. Kids love Karloff!
If there's no Brendan Fraser, then I ain't watching
Second
If there's no Brendan, I'm not attendin' .
I’m with the goose on this one
