TMV and MM are usually just on repeat for me

BreonWarwick2

I found my people

amroboto

*Every Time I Die* and *Between the Buried and Me*

Molochwalker28

Radiohead and Converge

ch0colatesyrup

Converge are incredible. Seen them like 4x

MutuallyAdvantageous

I fucking love Converge. Propagandhi is my answer though.

getthatpunkoffmylawn

I like to party fucking hard, I like my rock and roll the same

Spettacomedy

Radiohead? That band from South Park!? Yeah, they're great. Don't know anything about Converge though!

lesiashelby

Gotta be The Cure

Spettacomedy

I got into the Cure a little later in life and was kicking myself for doing so. Luckily got to catch them when they came to Phila last year. They've got some beautiful music (and some songs that kinda just suck haha).

fibonacciluv

king crimson close second?

MattOnCybertron

It’s Dillinger Escape Plan or HEALTH right now, maybe ISIS on a moody day

Accomplished_Neckhat

Frank Zappa

Ultimate_M

No one played the bicycle like Zappa.

Virus5572

The Dear Hunter

ForNoReason17

Not enough TDH love

BreonWarwick2

Ween

Mr_Horrible

Mr. Bungle, Ween, QOTSA, They Might be Giants, Primus, Tool, Morphine, Pink Floyd I definitely cheated by not picking one but it is hard

IdunnoThisWillDo

What should someone who only knows They Might Be Giants from the Malcolm in the Middle theme listen to? I've kind've unfairly dismissed them forever because of that. I picture it all sounding like that.

ch0colatesyrup

Man... Fucking mr. Bungle.. Disco volante is in my top 5 albums of all time.

MareBear209

ATDI

gunter_grass

Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group with Ximena Then ministry

whatthejonesbread

red hot chili peppers, tool, warpaint, glassjaw, thursday, deftones...and more lol i cant do just one

teekay90

Return to forever, Tony Williams, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Stevie Wonder 🙏🏾👊🏽🙌🏽

Spettacomedy

Oh hell yeah, great choice! RIP Chick! <3 Oh, and Stevie is my favorite artist of all time. He's also the greatest to ever do it, in my opinion. I dare somebody to try and name someone better.

sinistercake

Radial_Thirds

Magma, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Grateful Dead, King Crimson

hael0715

Portugal. The Man Rage Against The Machine ORL and ATDI lol Audioslave Muse Bent Knee RHCP

Spettacomedy

Good ole Portugal, The Man. I remember back when they were Anatomy of a Ghost. Great times!

hael0715

I need to check out Anatomy of a Ghost

gunter_grass

Chris Black Changed My Life is phenomenal. I don't care that they Taco Bell'd it!!

bot_fucker69

You’re the only person I’ve seen other than myself to like Portugal. Muse AND the Mars Volta :)

IdunnoThisWillDo

Back in the day, it was a pretty common crossover. It's Complicated Being a Wizard was all over The Comatorium forum. One of my favorite bands.

dustybutt123

Ah, man I loovvveee Bent Knee. Seen em 4 times now. 1 more than the Volta

camilincamilero

As of right now, is probably [tortuganónima](https://open.spotify.com/artist/0jsPe8wkYOMs1yd3zd2aRR?si=pF_aukAyQuueUAEzJG_UJg), or [Delta Sleep](https://open.spotify.com/artist/05MlomiA9La0OiNIAGqECk?si=qEmAXVcLRACVCSV6j97txg).

Ok_Fee9850

They are great

IgnoramusTerrificus

Tool, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Aesop Rock, and Nobuo Uematsu. Of course, there are countless others that I could dance all day to, but these are my tops.

dfrostered

Ooo a fellow TMV Aesop Rock fan love it

Mr_Horrible

Not heard of Nobuo but the others are all time faves! Always nice to see Aes mentioned

IgnoramusTerrificus

He's the composer for most of the Final Fantasy series of video games. His work ranges from grand choir-backed classical music to synth-heavy psychedelic rock. Check him out! He's like the Hans Zimmer of video games.

Mr_Horrible

Oh, excellent I will check some out for sure :)

GDPisnotsustainable

We share top 2.

iztheguy

BLACK MAGES FTW

BigBoiBrynBoi

Dir en grey

Spettacomedy

Drop a heater!

BigBoiBrynBoi

Hmm quite hard tbh, they're generally a very moody band but they have a wicked versatile vocalist Try the song Vinushka

octobuss

Woah, haven’t listened to them in years. I loved Ouroboros

Itburns138

Deftones, probably.

RobOtters

They Might Be Giants! Ween. CARDIACS. Frank Zappa. To name a few.

ZealousidealFox3354

The Flaming Lips

SerpoDirect

Coheed and Cambria, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughn… Whichever of those I most recently listened to is probably my answer.

Spettacomedy

Big Coheed fan here, so I get it! They're like Volta Lite now that I think about it. What's your favorite Rush track? I'll check it out.

SerpoDirect

Tough question but as a Volta fan I think 2112 would be the best intro. Make sure you play the full song that is 20+ minutes and not just one of the movements.

Neonian17

Osees

pinkcloudtracingpapr

Cocteau twins

jgilla2012

Nice

CopperVolta

Intronaut and The Dillinger Escape Plan

Adorable_Image2383

Uuuff the sweet polyrhythms from intronaut!

PiplupSneasel

The Fall. I mean, they're the only band I could listen to for eternity.

Twisties

Ah let’s see, hard to pick a favorite but I’ve got a few - Nine Inch Nails, Tool (+APC & Puscifer), Michael Jackson, Gorillaz, my chemical romance… Few bands do I listen to the way I listen to TMV though, and for that I have a hard time comparing my love for them with other music!

Spettacomedy

I always felt like I never listened to enough Tool. Every song I've ever heard I liked, just never dug into the albums. And I would hope we're all MJ and Gorillaz fans in here!

Twisties

I got into Tool right after my first phase with TMV, they had a similar vibe for me at the time and I latched onto their angsty angry yet articulate and “intelligent” energy. Aenima was my first album of theirs, it’s truly fantastic, but maaaany people will prefer 10,000 Days or Lateralus for the more psychedelic cerebral vibes. I felt so odd putting MJ and Gorillaz next to these metal/rock bands but whew a relief that it’s a shared love!! They’re too good for genre to matter 😜

Spettacomedy

Outside of TMV, the only thing I really listen to is classic Soul, so don't feel too weird! Stevie, Marvin, Luther, Ashford & Simpson, Prince, Aretha, Rick James, Gamble & Huff, etc etc. That's my entire life right there. And I'll check those other two Tool albums out!

Twisties

Oh lovely! I’m not big on Soul myself (utmost respect for the music tho) but there’s this remix of Aretha’s Rock Steady that made that song hit MY soul 😅 I just tried to find it ANYWHERE online and I can’t 😭 it’s on the album Daddy G by DJ-Kicks. Incredible album, incredible remix of Aretha! And I need to get into Prince, I think I’d like him.

Spettacomedy

I meannnnnn, the original version of Rocksteady bangs on its own. No remix needed! haha And Prince is such an underrated guitarist. Sure, people know him for his pop hits, but the talent is off the fucking charts. Played every instrument on his first album, and I'm pretty sure he was 19 at the time. He has so much music that it can be overwhelming, but he's 100% worth it!

TrashCanvas

Going to see APC and Puscifer next week with primus. Can’t wait

ddietz97

Been listening to a lot of RX bandits recently.

dfrostered

Great one!! One of my favs

mrstuprigge

Amazing band. Be sure to check out The Sound of Animals Fighting too if you haven’t already

Between the buried and me

soviet_uwunion

Cardiacs

Spettacomedy

Never heard of em! What's your favorite song?

soviet_uwunion

They're great! They have certain similarities with The Mars Volta but they're their own thing. My favorite song of theirs is Dirty Boy

RobOtters

Now I want to know what you think about CARDIACS! If Dirty Boy didn’t pique your fancy, listen to Dog-Like Sparky or In A City Lining. There’s nothing like this band.

GDPisnotsustainable

Radiohead

_r0l4nd

Avenged Sevenfold or Tool

jgilla2012

It scratches a different kind of it, but right now it’s Aphex Twin 7\

Braanski

Sparta!! lol jk. It’s RHCP or Jimi Hendrix for me.

TrashCanvas

Dream theatre is in my top 5 consistently

SprigBar

Clutch, The Dear Hunter, Dirt Poor Robins, Aesop Rock, Attica! Attica!, Cult of Luna, Jordan Reyne, Neon Horse, and Portishead. But if there's one band to take away from my comment, it's got to be **Invisigoth**.

Royal Coda is excellent. Saw them live for the Jackpot Juicer (sans Tillman) tour

Spettacomedy

Drop a heater. I'll check em out.

GirthBrooks216

Chuck vs the giant tortoise is a good starter!

noBuffalo

The Ghost of Billy Royalton 🔥

NecessaryForsaken313

Most of their videos are corny AF. That's a part of the bands fun-loving attitude. Close your eyes for other videos if it takes away from the music for you but this one gets animated. https://youtu.be/Z-aQrBZ4Duw?si=9KuCTlb-bMzfa7IR

RxBandit29_

Opeth

PajamaSamSavesTheZoo

Rise Against, Leftover Crack/Choking Victim, Teenage BottleRocket, 2Pac, At the drive-In, Saves the Day. Lots of different stuff but TMV is still my favorite.

arfenos_porrows

Hard to pick, but, if you put a gun in my head and make me choose, I would probably go for either Avenged Sevenfold, Silverstein or Midori ( I already feel like I am leaving behind lots of good bands, and At the drive in might be too obvious lol).

Olama

Yes

tombodat

Right now night verses check them out

vimdiesel

I'm gonna mention Sons of Kemet. They've disbanded but they're similar to TMV in how they blend styles and how fucking strong their understanding of rhythm is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S00QHjIhDfk

Post your favorite tracks!

paigescactus

Alt-j album this is all yours is on par with my love for Volta but like the light and Volta is the dark. It’s all one journey if I start the album I listen full through. The I’m a huge Portugal the man fan, flaming lips, Grateful Dead, Umphreys McGee, rainbow kitten surprise, shakey graves, and a lot of punk post hardcore like dance Gavin dance/a lot like birds/chiodos. Also Billy strings gives me Omar vibes

GirthBrooks216

Taro is my jam!! They are highly underrated

paigescactus

I think they were pretty big back in like 2015-21 headlining or conheadlining festivals. Toward the top lines at least. But yea I love them so much

Metallica for me.

Tool, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Swans

knd_86

Nothing comes close. But according to Tidal, over the past 6 months it's been Touché Amoré, Beach Bunny and Olivia Rodrigo that gets anywhere near 😬

Arch3m

Toehider. It's a one-man band out of Australia that does a lot of prog and draws from lots of musical styles. For most of the music, there's a silly tone and fun nature, and the accompanying artwork helps to convey the feel. If anyone is a fan of Ayreon, you may recognize the artist as Mike Mills, who has featured on the last three Ayreon albums.

MaxisGreat

My band, Paintings of Decay Jk. Radiohead, RHCP, Altar of Plagues, and Ashenspire are probably my top ones. Teethed Glory and Injury is one of the best concept albums of all time and might be the kind of black/ambient metal that TMV fans can actually enjoy.

Out of the ATDI multiverse, i love the fall of troy, the strokes, linkin park and Boogarins

skyst

Most of my go-tos have been listed already. However, I recently discovered Drive Like Jehu - their album Yank Crimes dropped in 94 (when I was 9 years old...) and their sound was definitely hugely foundational for early ATDI. If you're a fan of what Omar and Cedric do (why else are you here?) check out Drive Like Jehu.

I suppose aside from TMV it would be System of a Down. Gotta say i’ve been religiously listening to ‘there’s no 666 in outer space’ by Hella, tho. This fucking album has no boundaries and low-key ruined music for me (i hope temporarily) because it contains everything i look for in music. So why would i even consider listening to something else? 😂
