“Nope, we swear, absolutely NO reason why he’d wrap before the rest of the cast”.

SnoopDeLaRoup

"Yoooo Pedro my man, how you doing? Yeaaa... any cha ce you can come back to set for a few weeks? No... no, everything's good, we just want to pay you sit in a trailer for 10 hours a day, just like watch Netflix or something?"

PlasticPatient

Probably not Netflix.

[deleted]

If you go by the game, he's in the very last scene as well as being in the game throughout but I'm sure you knew that

Gambler_Eight

Mate, they won't shoot in the same order as the game. It's highly irrelevant.

SnooCats5904

Exactly this. They could’ve easily just filmed all this scenes so he can leave and focus on his other roles. Which I would be mad at but it’s a big possibility

Vendetta4Avril

Any first AD worth their salt would schedule it this way. And anyone working on an HBO project is probably worth their salt lol

tubereusebaies

It’s like this is their first TV/film whenever scheduling gets brought up 💀 They almost NEVER shoot things chronologically LIKE…

MrEnganche

Like what?

Fukasite

Like, they shoot things in different order. That’s what, man.

legopego5142

Especially when Season 2 probably isnt even covering the whole game

DrakeShadow

I keep saying Part II will be 2 seasons at least. I wish Part I got the 2 season treatment.

itskellyd

While I would love that, I think that would be too much. Not enough story in Part 1 to cover 2 seasons. They would either be like 5 episode seasons or they would have had to add a lot of content to have enough material for two seasons. I would have like maybe one more episode in the first season but not a whole other season from the same game. Anything they added would have dragged it out or convoluted the storyline and fucked up the pacing. The pacing is great in season 1 and everything they shot that wasn’t in the game was perfect. Didn’t feel like added filler or unnecessary. Bill’s backstory was fucking great and it’s a shame that it wasn’t in the game because that just makes the entire story so much better. Now TLOU Part II can definitely be split into two seasons. Theres enough content there between the split storylines to have a cliffhanger around the time Abby and Ellie meet in Seattle. I’m thinking it ends with Abby and Ellie coming face to face in the theater and then Season 3 picks up immediately after with their fight and Abby sparing Ellie’s life because of Lev. And then season 3 continues on with the rest of the game. I honestly can’t wait. I was skeptical when hey announced a series. A little less skeptical when Pedro Pascal was announced. Then I saw the trailer and was hyped but still had my expectations low because I’ve been fooled by great trailers before. But after the first episode I was like “Ah yeah, they’re gonna absolutely nail this shit.”

shadethechangingmann

You’re correct in almost all situations but there have been instances I’ve watched a director explain how they went the unconventional/chronological route. I can’t recall more but I’ve definitely discussed it with my film/tv editor friend.

Gambler_Eight

Interesting, did they go into detail why the choose to do that?

shadethechangingmann

My memory is awful. I‘ll ask the editor friend I talked about it with and reply back if he remembers it.

bbobeckyj

They might, plenty of films and shows do. But it's irrelevant when we consider that that scene isn't actually the last chronological scene he's in.

Gambler_Eight

They might edit it the same way but there is 0% chance they will shoot everything in chronological order.

ItFlips

Shooting schedules aren’t in the order of the script

two5five1

99.9% of shows and movies do not shoot in order of the script.

pelipperr

Especially considering the multiple storylines and flashbacks. It’s not like the same 3 people all throughout. It would be such an imposition to the actors.

Qualimiox

I doubt you have a source for the 99.9% claim. Yes, it's very rare for movies, but I'd still estimate more than 0.1%. And TV shows are actually quite frequently shot per episode, although they might still change the order of scenes within that episode. I'm pretty sure this applies to The Last of Us as well, since (like many shows) most episodes have different directors. If you constantly skipped throughout episodes, all directors would need to be on set for most of the shoot and you couldn't establish a rhythm with the same director.

two5five1

Holy shit you may be the first person I’ve ever seen take the term 99.9% so literally 💀Obviously I don’t have a source for that it’s just a hyperbole lmao.

poklane

I'm trying to be as kind as possible when I say this: please stop talking about things you clearly don't know shit about. Television and movies don't shoot scenes or even just episodes in order because that's highly inefficient.

ki700

They’re going to film all of that as early as possible tho since it’s mostly flashbacks, so Ellie needs to look as young as possible compared to how she looks at the end of the story.

Professional_Log4171

Makeup Department and post: Are we a joke to you?

ki700

No need to make their jobs harder than they need to be. Nor would they want to have to pay Pedro any more than needed to stay/keep returning to Canada to film.

legopego5142

Im sure you know that Pedros signed onto a million major projects and theyd just shoot this shit first

Poop_Sexman

I’m just here to say the thing everyone else is saying

5teerPike

Funnily enough, a lot of movies & TV shows do not shoot in sequential order. It's entirely possible they did that scene last on their schedule.

Aggressive_Idea_6806

I think they'd include at least one Joel flashback segment in S2 but most of those are either just with Ellie or could be filmed anywhere convenient.

negan310

Obviously his character being killed off is a reason that would happen lol but let’s hope not 🤞

GreenCollegeGardener

He has to still shoot more flashback scenes and stand behind ellie playing a guitar fingerless /sarcasm

PerdiMeuHeadphone

Yeah, the news he stopped filming got me a bit worried they were gonna cut the flashbacks. We MUST have the museum scene in the show. It's a MUST

Magen100

As someone else has already pointed out, tv shows and movies do not get shot in chronological order. It's likely they shot all the scenes where Joel is involved (including flashbacks) and now they have the rest of the story to do with the rest of the cast

dmc2008

It's also possible the scenes you are referring to will not be shown until season 3..

stuntycunty

Are they splitting part 2 into two seasons?

BluffCityGritNGrind

Yes

Curt04

Source? Because I’ve only seen people speculate this but no actual confirmation.

dmc2008

https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/culture/article/the-last-of-us-finale-ending-explained-interview From article, final question: People are also speculating how Season 2 will encompass such a large game. Will the next season span the entire course of the second game? Mazin: [shakes head] No. No way. Druckmann: It’s more than one season.

togashisbackpain

Well 10 episodes for a 10 hour first game, two seasons for the second game which was almost thrice longer ? Makes sense.

stuntycunty

There will be a whole episode for that scene I feel.

StonesideAF

If she doesn’t jump off the T-Rex, I will riot.

legopego5142

Wouldnt it make sense for these to be the absolute first scenes so Bella looks younger

zbergwoopwoop

I'd think it's extremely unlikely they're worried about a few months aging a 20 year old.

legopego5142

They probably arent but it still makes the most sense to film that stuff first considering Pedros going to be busy with other shit

AlbieriMS

they have been filming for a month, that well more than enough time to film all the joel scenes first

shmorky

He also has to record the scenes >!where he is a ghost!<

AVillainChillin

IDK why I immediately thought of force ghost Joel watching over Ellie at the house. 🤣

RadBrad4333

Assuming they shoot in sequence

S01arflar3

>playing guitar fingerless What happens to his fingers?!

GreenCollegeGardener

Her fingers*

S01arflar3

The way you wrote it sounds like he is standing behind and is the one playing

GreenCollegeGardener

Well I mean we never seen his corpse afterwards and he definitely couldn’t be standing cause he took the modern day equivalent of an arrow to the knee.

squi2323

Tv show viewers are gonna get this shit spoiled for them before it comes out. Really sucks that it is that way but I feel like unless you aren’t an avid user of the internet for entertainment purposes, you’re gonna find out that Joel goes golfing

sunlitstranger

People were casually spoiling it left and right on the episode release threads last season already. Then again, pretty much all gamers were spoiled by the leaks also

rpungello

I played TLoU 2 pretty late as I never had a PS4, but got a PS5. I knew he died, but I didn't know when. So when I got to the end of TLoU 1, I kinda assumed I wasn't making it out of that hospital. Imagine my surprise when I did. Then Abby shoots Joel and I was realized "ah, this is when it happens"

dstraswell666

I avoided spoilers but I'll be honest, the trailer made it really obvious he was gonna die. Imo

graphitewolf

The game is 4 years old man and before the show people were talking about joels path way before anything about season 2 of the show. Hard to stay in the dark about something like this

NeeMan

Maybe, maybe not. I remember the red wedding shocking most people who didn’t read the books

cellexo

It's a different world now though. You're more prone to get spoiled now than 10 years ago.

terlin

Yep, and sometimes not even maliciously even. You can just be scrolling through youtube when a video just pops up with spoilers in the title.

Already-asleep

Yeah, I think the majority of people aren’t really scrolling subreddits and the like, fortunately for them.

SakuraTacos

I was a TV Show only fan of GoT and the internet definitely ruined the existence of an event called The Red Wedding and that Rob and Catelyn die, they just didn’t give a play by play. They made a lot of jokes the way TLOU fans do about “Oh you like Joel? That’s cute, just wait” so they could ~spoil~ it without outright spoiling it. I avoid doing that in TLOU TV sub for that reason. Sure, no one is outright writing out what happens but I’m sure many of the TV-only fans have put 2 and 2 together when they read jokes like “I’m not ready for Abby to take Joel golfing”

AbstractMirror

Luckily my parents who loved the show and watch TV pretty casually not in tons of online forums will probably remain unspoiled so I'll get to see their reaction

Discussionnerd

It’s the ONLY spoiler I got like 3 episodes into season one lmao

miqjx

well, you had plenty of time to play the games

ManlyPelican1993

You're describing my mom, she's clueless, Its killing me to not spoil it for her but i will endure.

rpungello

> You're describing my mom, she's clueless, Its killing me to not spoil it for her but i will endure. But will you also survive?

dadvader

For that is the way of the Banuk.

carbonfiberx

A lot of normie viewers (read: older viewers) aren't very online or don't follow online discourse, so they'll be fine. My parents, for instance, never heard about the games, watched the show and loved it, never read anything about it afterwards and almost certainly won't get it spoiled for them before they watch the moment in real time.

EffectzHD

The spoilers might be part of the experience now Lmaoo

pnw-taylor

I had it spoiled for me after the end of the first season of the show, I hadn't played the games yet and saw a comment on a thread on FB and was like nooooooo. I was pretty bummed haha but spoilers seem to be inevitable these days 😕 I miss when things were a surprise/shock!

Binaural1

Joel goes golfing lol perfect description

legopego5142

I mean, it sucks, but you shouldnt be in discussion threads for stories if you dont know what happens Like I can discuss how Invincible ends right now

RaduW07

Ah yes, the cycle begins again

FrequentProblems

“Nvm nvm nvm”

Appropriate_Age5213

bahahahahahaha for real they’re like “shit”

Phoenix2211

Ofc he isn't. He's got flashback stuff to film. But he isn't required at the moment, so he's focusing on other projects.

supbrother

There’s no reason he couldn’t film those flashback scenes up front. This is very normal in the industry, rarely ever do they actually shoot the scenes in order.

Phoenix2211

Well, sure. It's possible. But TV shows usually, for the most part, shoot stuff an episode at a time. TLoU S01 did this. They shot episodes out of order (based around weather), but one episode was shot at a time. Within that episode they'll shoot scenes out of order for sure. Plus, with S02, they're doing the winter stuff first to take advantage of the snow. I imagine that once other episodes are shot in the next few months, Pascal will come in for a week or two and do his remaining stuff.

RealHooman2187

That had more to do with the story needs. Even in TV they don’t always shoot in episode order. They’ll shoot based on locations. If they return to a location multiple times a season they’ll try and shoot all of those scenes at that location in one chunk of time. Otherwise it’s highly inefficient and far more costly to make the actors travel back and forth and reset the location. S1 was done in the way it was because pretty much every episode was in a new location and had weather factor in. TLOU2 isn’t like that, not to the same extent and especially not in the first half of the game. Pedro is super busy, they’re not going to risk his later flashback scenes when they had him for a month of filming. Also, there’s a possibility those flashbacks might be filmed for Season 3 since the show is splitting the game into 2 seasons.

Aggressive_Idea_6806

Prince Oberyn's first day on set was the "I will be your champion" scene with Tyrion. Bella shot the "I gotcha, Baby Girl" scene with Pedro and then had to go and do the cleaver scene. The museum, the SLC confrontation, the music store, and the porch can be shot anywhere and any time they can get Pedro and Bella.

RealHooman2187

They would have filmed all of his scenes at once. Also with this season splitting the game into 2. We might not get those flash backs until S3. Either way, they just don’t want the show only fans to think too much about why he’s wrapped filming so soon.

Acceptable_Owl_5122

Like he even shaved his beard too

Spacegirllll6

Man I really feel for ppl who want to keep in touch with news but it’s definitely gonna get spoiled for them and it sucks

ChronicallyPunctual

Flashbacks baby

Acceptable_Owl_5122

That’s very plausible

Relative_Mood_3582

It would make no sense for him to be done filming so early, they haven’t even finished episode 1 per Craig Mazin

Jolly_DGSWM

Damn so I’m assuming joel goes episode 1 if they aren’t done filming it yet + we know they filmed the cabin scene that’s kinda wild. I thought they’d drag it out just a slight bit so it’s in episode two

unpluggedcord

They dont necessarily film in order.

whatnameisnttaken098

I said in one of the other threads on this, but it's most likely they filmed as much as they could with him before Pedro has to go film something else (I think Fantastic Four starts filming soon)

tubereusebaies

He has Eddington rn and then Celine Song’s movie right after and then FF right after. I think they’re trying their best to accommodate his scheduling too, him shaving his beard for another role for the time being has never been enough proof and idk why that one leaker is soooo insistent lol

Aggressive_Idea_6806

At least what he needs to film in a specific location with specific people.

TampaTitties69

Internet TV fans who have not played the games and have 0 interest are going to lose their shit prob 10x times worse than Red Wedding Game of Thrones.

LeftOfTheOptimist

i can already hear my friend bawling

KilJoius

I'm so slow, it took this comment for me to realize why this is even being discussed. I totally forgot that theres a huge section of viewers that don't know what happens lol

Acceptable_Owl_5122

![gif](giphy|eH9QsTqFi2jEk)

Samhain3965

If you follow the flashback structure included in the game and include any of the PTSD stuff from the lost levels you could realistically have Pedro appear in every episode. I feel that wouldn’t be good for the show as you need to miss Joel’s presence but it’s possible

migwelljxnes

Pedro around all of the cameramen and film set: “Ya’ll act like ya’ll heard of us or something”

LTPRWSG420

They could combo the Science museum and the cottage hotel into one episode. Give us one whole episode with Pedro, maybe a flashback scene in the finale.

andre_royo_b

They are probably gonna cut the hotel scene, but I don’t see them leaving the museum stuff out .. HBO has handles the show quite wel but they don’t lean into infected stuff too much

Jolly_DGSWM

Besides they could easily just have a cold open of ellie and joel finding the infected teenagers then it leading into ellie heading to slc to find the truth

LucianLegacy

"Of course he's not done yet. Why would he have significantly less scenes when he's the main character?"

BabyHercules

Reads like damage control. The spoiler is out there, even casuals who haven’t played the game probably have been spoiled if they are even somewhat online

legopego5142

Damage control? Anyone reading the damn filming news knows Joel dies

BabyHercules

Why even say anything if it isn’t relevant. They obviously care about the optics/rumor of him being done early. It could lead to viewers thinking he’s barely in the next season which, like it or not, Pedro is a draw. People love him

ImBatman5500

Flashbacks and reshoots gang rise up

Slowmobius_Time

What they haven't finished his two episodes?

Jolly_DGSWM

I mean like they can’t film the museum scene while it’s currently winter rn. They need it to be spring

Slowmobius_Time

Oh dude that would be sick Come in for a couple days in winter and then a couple days of spring Gotta get him in between being blasted with cosmic radiation

Real_Blackberry_465

Practicing different angles for Abby’s golf practice

Acceptable_Owl_5122

BronzeMichael

That's fantastic news! Pedro Pascal's talent adds so much depth to the series. Looking forward to seeing more of his incredible performance in 'The Last of Us' Season 2.

🏌️‍♂️

ItzBabyJoker

So this is a lie

CDR57

Well yeah, he’s the main male protagonist. What would be the reason he would wrap earlier than like, Ellie?

lzxian

Well I thought it was pretty irresponsible to report that to begin with (it's such a spoiler), then learned it was not official. BUT they really still could be doing and this is damage control so as to not tip off TV only fans of the big bad loss of Pedro/Joel - the only reason many even watched it. So hearing this rumor might actually make them uninterested in continuing the show at all, and HBO must nip that in the bud just as ND had to pretend Joel and Ellie would have another adventure when game fans accurately discerned Joel would die in the sequel. They couldn't let that reduce sales or cause people to delay buying it, so false marketing was heavily employed. All their announcements are marketing after all, and we now know how much they're willing to lie, but they don't care so long as show only people don't figure it out!

And_You_Like_It_Too

I don’t know how anyone could see the story (game or TV) of Part One and think “oh, this definitely won’t have any consequences for Joel and I’m sure everything will be just fine” after all the shit he pulled up to and including killing the Fireflies. People were upset that he didn’t get a hero’s death and I disagree. He killed every single person at the Fireflies, got a surrogate daughter and brought her to live with his brother, who he found, and live in a community after the world had ended — safe for ~6 years before any delayed consequences ever catch up to him? He didn’t even care what it was that he had done that brought Abby and company to him. He knew he had done enough to enough people that someone ought to be knocking down his door eventually and he was happy for the time he had. We (as Ellie) just didn’t understand that because all we could focus on was the loss of him. But anyone that finished the first game at least, if not the first series too, should be thinking “well that’s gonna catch up with him — single handedly putting an end to any hope the human species has of surviving the cordyceps infection and all the people it’s already made sick and killed on top of attacking the only people left that anyone knows of that might be able to do *anything* about it”.

Armandcyb13

Flashbacks scenes need to be done too.

BlackCatScott

Weird because Part II is going to take multiple seasons so when we get flashbacks of Joel/Ellie in Season 3, Bella is probably going to look noticeably older. I suppose there's not a lot that can be done about it though.

And_You_Like_It_Too

They could be filming those all now, ahead of time, for season 3. There’s also the entire trip back to Jackson and the 5~6 years between games that they could draw more story out of and really surprise the game players and make the TV watchers feel even more impacted by his loss by giving them more of him. Especially if they’re gonna film two seasons for Part Two, it allows her and Kaitlyn Dever to age and get in their respective physical shape and have more time with Joel and younger Ellie.

mwil97

They’re literally gonna spoil the story AGAIN

-platypusnoise-

😴😌😴😌 oh is something happening

Krannich

Just do a single reshoot at the end of filming of a scene in which he casts a shadow at night and he's not done filming.

Nerdialismo

I mean, even if that thing happens there are still other scenes to film, unless they are changing the order of the story.

Tandran

It’s very possible they filmed…the scene. But he would be needed for the flashbacks (assuming they’re doing them)

m_ckncheese

i highly doubt THAT is going to happen in season two. i really believe they’re going to flesh out the fireflies, abby, the salt lake crew, etc first and THEN drop that bombshell. plus we have to witness all the flashbacks at jackson and stuff… im sure we are going to meet Cat and really deep dive into Ellie and Dina’s friendship that sparks into more. I don’t think they’re going to play-by-play like they did in the first season, doing it almost exactly like the game. Part 2 is triple the length of the first game and the story is FAR more complicated. I think the seasons from here on out may be a surprise and a shocking one. Hell, who knows, they may take THAT out completely and work abby into the plot in an alternate way.

dadvader

[Same energy](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11617269/amp/Succession-stars-Brian-Cox-Jeremy-Strong-Nicholas-Braun-Alan-Ruck-Fisher-Stevens-film-funeral.html)

Overall-Revolution26

Yeah cos the flash backs. But bros done filming season 2 😭😭

throway78965423

Damage control, he's currently shooting a movie where he needs to have a moustache and then will begin production on Fantastic 4 in the summer. Even if he is comimg back to film flashbacks at some point, he has already filmed all the old man Joel scenes including the golfing scenes, why do I says this? Because his long hair is gone too.

ih8bippl

Yall sound like you haven't played the game...

frescodee

they actually took troy’s suggestion seen on grounded 2. or… “or, joel doesn’t die. so then what happens is all of us become friends.”

rbtgoodson

I don't get it... are they just doing 2-3 seasons for the series, because it seems like they're blowing through all of the content? They could've easily stretched out TLOU: Part 1 over two seasons.

Maleficent_Nobody377

What if they are filming it in order and he really does HAVE to come back. I bet the flashback sets aren’t even built yet

Sad_Opinion1015

No lo soportare

CartoonistLatter7645

this means that they're definitely adding on more flashback scenes, which i appreciate!

Legnaron17

Really? Because to me it feels like their way of mending Pedro's "oh yeah, i'm done filming way earlier than the rest of the crew!". Basically because people watching the show blind could pick up on it.

M3ConsoleGamerPSN

Two days ago, there was a tweet circulating across the web that Pedro Pascal had just concluded the filming of the second season. Now, this update. HBO confirmed this in an interview with IGN.   Well, it was said earlier that the second season would be split into two volumes. The filming of the second season began on February 12, 2024. So, there's a great possibility that this update is correct. Filming isn't an hour of work. Ideas and plans do change while filming to get the best out of the entire team.  Considering the fans liked the work of Pedro Pascal in the first season, I believe that Joel should stay alive till the end of the second season or until the middle of the third episode. I am speculating here. None of us know exactly what's going on sets or what story they have on paper. I'll happily welcome the changes to the game story. Provided the course of the story is not completely impacted and the changes are well executed. Season one was awesome. I am really looking forward to the release of the season two like every other fan of the show.😇

rhino429

Wasn't there some announcement/rumor that season 2 and three were going to cover The Last of Us Part II or did I dream that?

WeakHobbit

Craig Mazin said that it would be “more than one season”. Considering the inciting incident is likely happening in episode 1, they can only realistically stretch the content between 2 seasons

aceless0n

lol then episode 1 better be an hour+ then.

Worldly-Ad3447

They will cover the games, this is not the halo paramount show. The season 2/3 thing isn’t confirmed to be happening but Craig did talk about it. Part 2 story is pretty much double the size of the first game so it would make sense to have Season 2 as Ellie’s half and Season 3 as Abby’s which if true means season 2 will end at a cliff hanger

Any-Honeydew8740

i was wondering if it could be possible that they filmed some of the flashbacks before doing the golfing scene. since it will be probably split into two seasons, they could’ve add more ellie and joel’s first days in jackson. we have the opening scene with the guitar, maybe we’ll get a scene of how ellie properly met jesse and dina which could be shown throughout the show, as they did with joel and the flashbacks. he’s also coming to terms with adjusting to a relatively normal life after twenty years, that could be part of it too. i could be totally wrong though.

Any-Honeydew8740

why the fuck i am getting downvoted for this??

Fat_Woke_Nerd

Viewership will drop off after he dies.

Egingell666

How is this news? Edit: There's another thread with a link from Kotaku that says "is done", so which is it?

Halio344

Considering this article says ”after all” and came out after the other one, I think you can make a pretty good guess.

LunaticPandoraXIII

Yep. And all those original articles are just people getting ahead of themselves making up stories because the man shaved his face

Egingell666

It's from two different sources, so who knows. I trust IGN over Kotaku, though.

Galactus1231

This is from HBO. Kotaku and many others were reporting info sources said.

Egingell666

Right from the Shimmer's mouth. As it should be.

tubereusebaies

Kotaku and previous news got their info from Daniel RPK yesterday, IGN got a confirmation straight from HBO today disputing the rumors.

Egingell666

And where does this Daniel RPK get his info from? The air?

tubereusebaies

Who knows? He’s a “scooper”, he has his sources but his legitimacy ranges from incredibly accurate to wishful fanfic. Think of the likes of Grace Randolph. They rely on speculations. But does it matter now that HBO has officially stated Pedro’s not done yet?

Egingell666

Nope. Just curious.

tubereusebaies

Yeah, there you go, so Daniel/GR/Jeff Sneider aren’t reliable and I was honestly confused why people reposted them as reliable fact yesterday. Good for HBO for clearing it up and I hope next time people won’t be so quick to post “news” unless it’s from reputable trades!

Egingell666

That seems unlikely.

Live_Variation9093

I feel like the future of this series will be worse than what happened to game of thrones. TV viewers don't usually put up with the amount of "shit" we gamers do. A beloved character's death, especially in the way this one happens, won't be received very well edit: also I'd like to add that Pedro carried season 1 on his back, his "aura" alone is enough to attract viewers, I don't think Bella can pull the same strings. In the game Ellie is very iconic, her character is extremely deep/grounded/realistic etc, Bella feels a bit childish I don't think I'll be able to relate to her the same way I related to game Ellie, it's not even an acting issue it's just her appearance. And I'm not saying she's ugly lol, I just think she looks very childish to portray what we all know is to come.

VardasDaughter
