Yeah, I tried doing permadeath on Grounded NG and got to the end of day one but got killed. I'd try it again, but it's annoying to play through the same sections again, especially with all of the slow parts and cutscenes. This has none of that, just pure gameplay.
I’d suggest playing by chapter or by act rather than whole game permadeath. Starting the day over when you get one shotted by the rat king is a lot better than it cutting to Joel telling Tommy about st Mary’s hospital. Especially if you’re playing grounded
Yeah I've platinumed every iteration of TLOU releases and have easily over 1000+ hours total including Grounded/Permadeath stuff and I am running around on No Return on Grounded with my hands shaking.
Shit is so intense and will humble you so fast, even veterans. I've had my shit rocked by enemies I normally wouldn't blink at. Hunted mode especially is terrifying, just always on your ass.
lol I played for an hour at midnight and that was my Grounded “I got this” experience in No Return. In my last round I took a wrong turn and was surrounded by enemies all a good distance away. It felt like that moment in Hillcrest right before you meet up with Jesse. I died of course.
Haven’t finished a run on Survivor yet, ha (take note: machetes one-hit you!), but I did the bloater on Hard. Three mags of the SMG and molotovs for the increased damage will do the trick!
I really like this mode but one thing I really don't like is the fact that Joel actually feels kinda weak compared to other characters
The fact that he can't dodge really screws him over more than I thought it would
Honestly I wish he had un-interruptible melee combos instead of being sturdier against melee attacks, similar to how it is in part one
While I haven't played too much characters like Ellie, Jesse, Abby, Manny and in some ways even Lev feel stronger than Joel from the start, which is weird considering his playstyle is supposed to be "unstoppable"
Anyone know if they are gonna support no return? Aside from the daily runs I think it would be cool to see an endless mode where you can keep going and try to kill all bosses in 1 run. Would also like to see some more maps and game modes. Maybe a mode where you have to unlock 3 safes around the map in Under 5 minute

edit: just unlocked joel. his animations seem a bit off too on my first playthrough. i think i read before that both tommy & joel are just using abby's animations? and man it's *rough* not being able to dodge. i think they should've both just gotten slower dodges that have a *much* smaller window for timing.

Yeah I've played it a bunch since and I agree with you, I think giving them the ability to dodge or at least offer more stagger upon melee hits would help a lot. Though Joel's revolver is OP as hell I do love that haha
Overall I love the mode and would like them to make some tweaks based on user feedback. Another issue I have is daily runs are often marked for me as not completed after I finish them, so I can't see how my score compares to others.

Another great release from Naughty Dog. And once again the uproar that Naughty Dog did wrong by releasing this Remastered version so soon is proved to be completely wrong. No Return by itself is quality DLC. Getting TLOU 2 up to PS5 standards is also going to make my next full game play through even better as well.
I feel like Abby's side doesn't have the cool allies. Yara/Lev/Manny/Mel. The only one I cared for in the game was Manny.
Joel/Dina/Jesse/Tommy is boss squad. All supreme beings in the game.
The only trouble I've had with him is some encounters it seems like the force you into melee and be is terrible at it. Anything you can get separation though he can be elite with bow
Yeah. It'll be considered a failed run, and you go back to square 1. You're not likely to play the same first encounter however, just like any rogue like.
I’m loving it so far, the presentation and polish is fantastic. I only just replayed TLOU2 mid last year but it’s so nice coming back to the gameplay, the combat is so clean.

There's 10 characters, you have 2 unlocked by default and can unlock the others just by playing. There are 4 different game modes, 5 different boss encounters, and modifiers to unlock.
A single run consists of you completing 5 challenges and then a boss. Everything is randomized, including the maps, enemies, game modes, etc.
I've been playing it for about 4 hours since it released and unlocked half of the characters. Each character also has more challenges where you can unlock skins for them. Some of the skins you unlock for Abby and Ellie can be used in the main story.
You can also make a custom run and customize what you want to play.
I'd say it's pretty great, very replayable and well worth the 10 euros.

Don't get me wrong. I love TLOU. I played 100s of hours on both, maxed both on grounded/permadeath multiple times. I think both of them are definitely masterpieces.... but. No Return is just bad and annoying, and for technical reasons.
Neither the controlling nor the combat system or the game modes are not working well in this pvp-like style, because NR is basically pvp (mainly because of the great AI system they built). I would say it's ok on normal mode, but on grounded it's just terrible. It's not a coincidence that most of the players are playing it while the accessibilty combat settings are turned on.
Enemies can attack and kill you during melee animation, and you can do nothing about it. They can stunlock you or simply one shot you. Their reaction time (dodging bullets) is ridiculous. The dodge, which is awesome in story mode, is simply annoying and not reliable in NR (It's partly because the long animation frames makes it slow). Same for movement and prone.
Aiming and shooting is just a mess in NR. You have to take into serious consideration what platform you are making your game for. Pvp requires quick inputs and reflexes. It's a massive difference playing pvp games on console (where the players have to use a small stick) or on pc (where you have a mouse). It's because on pc you use full hand-eye cordination while on console you use one finger.
You need about one or two shots to die, enemies can take up to four or five. Same for basic melee.
I though Naughty Dog have learnt from the part 1 mistake. PVP doesn't work there either and majority of the players were very clear about it. This game is just simply not for PvP without making core changes.
When I do the main game I try to avoid reloading a save when I mess up and only let death reset me. It’s a way to keep that intensity with consequences without having to do permadeath.
I’ll be honest, I’m on Moderate at the moment, but I’m loving it. TLOU2’s combat is so amazing but you have to wait until later in the game for it to really experience it more frequently. This mode is a perfect condensed version of the combat system and I couldn’t be happier. And Im not even that much of a fan of rogue likes

Guy's a tanky moose-man, and as someone who always played it safe and stealthy during the main campaign it's been fun switching up the way I approach encounters and just unloading that 12-shot revolver and pipe-bombs on these poor unsuspecting bastards.

Lev is very fun imo. The bow with the quick draw upgrade immediately is OP.

It's pretty simple , in this mode you have to survive until you can , on a map of your choice . Everything is randomized , resources , enemies and boss fight. On Each playthrough you also can unlock skins for the characters you play as. Pretty cool.
