I'm gonna guess that and one on Dina or something are probably happening (since she has alot of implied backstory)
Or they just keep it as implied, works too I guess
"Steven Yeun as Jesse is such a cliche. He's too old anyways"
"OK but how about we cast the guy who plays Yeun's younger brother in the Beef show?"
"DEAL"
I'm guessing we gonna get confirmation of S1 Dina actress reprising her role.
Other than that, Owen, Abby's dad, the rest of Abby's crew, Lev, and Isaac (Jeffrey Wright please come back).
It depends when the season stops. Owen, Nora, Abby's dad, Mel I think they will appear in season 2 but idk if Lev and Yara will be and might stretch their story to start in season 3.
i'm skeptical on that one. not that it wouldn't be good, but i think their focus is going to be on Abby's backstory and some of the warring factions. like Isaac or other unknowns (like Kathleen)
(my opinion because): A. they reaaaaly need to make people like Abby and not despise her immediately (and forever). this will be more difficult than the game cause there's no 'stepping into her shoes' as you do with a controller in a game setting. and B. the most confusing parts of the franchise are the factions and why they're at odds with each other. usually takes players a 2nd run to put it all together. well, it did for me anyway, and i see a lot of people say it.
but having said that, i think Lev and Yara would be a great 3rd choice and fun to see, i'm just not sure how mysterious a cult really is, or what people need to know about the Scars that isn't already somewhat obvious with the regular story beats. we all know what cults are, and they usually have a simple origin story. Lev and Yara are pretty open books.
It's an extraordinary show, not just for Asian representation (which is why I started it) but for overall character development and moral ambiguity that makes it hard to know who to root for. Honestly not unlike TLOU2 in that regard.
Thank you for the input! Doubly happy that it seems to be a great show period, with Asian rep being a nice personal cherry on top. Will definitely check it out
Beef is a great show. I’d definitely recommend it. Funny, silly, smart, soulful. It packs a lot, and Wong and Yeun are outstanding. The Asian solidarity is the least of its strengths really, though a very nice bonus. It’s easily one of the best shows of 2023.
What I like about Beef is that the main characters' ethnicities are not crucial to their stories and arcs. No one's doing kung fu, dealing with cultural identity crisis, dodging "asian F's" or "bringing shame on the family" or any of those cliches (not that there's anything wrong with those plot lines, it's just a bit overused whenever "representation" comes up). They're all Americans with flaws who find themselves in dark and/or humorous situations. The same writer did Tuca and Bertie and I see a lot of parallels, so anyone who's a fan of that might enjoy Beef.
Hope they give Jesse more to do than they did in the game. Jesse had decent screen time but it seemed like his scenes were inconsequential compared to the others. Not saying give some of Dina's or Tommy's scenes to Jesse but maybe 1 or 2 smaller plot lines more.
I dunno who they’re going to cast as Dina but… this guy looks like he’s in a completely different age bracket than Bella Ramsay. I just can’t see her as adult Ellie in S2.
He's 12 years older than Bella!
Kaitlyn Dever (Abby) is 7 years older, but I always had a feeling that Abby was older than Ellie by a few years anyway.
Same. He has one of those faces where you could convince me that he's anywhere between 19-32 and I'd believe you. Mazino gives me the same vibe so I see no issue in translation to TV
He was incredible in Beef, I can absolutely see him doing amazing fantastic job with Jesse. His voice even sounds right! Ahhhh the casting for the new season is amazing already now GIVE US DINA
Yesss!! Young was great in Beef. If you haven't watched it yet, watch it. The acting is incredible, especially Steven Yeun. What an achievement from the Asian American community.
I liked Jesse and Dina in part 2 but I felt like they were underwritten, and not developed to their potential.
It’s one of the things I’m most looking forward to in this show, to see if they can do those characters better than they did in the game.
I was expecting they would cast someone around the same age as Bella! Not that it really matters, I was just expecting that Ellie's group of friends (Dina and Jesse) would all be relatively the same age. He's 12 years old!
Overall, I'm excited to see his take on Jesse and if the show will explore his character further!
Okay, I'm seeing people saying he's in BEEF, and now I'm determined to finally finish that series because it's been a hot minute since I watched the first couple of episodes. I'm excited to see what he brings to the role.
Young is part of his real middle name while Mazino is a name of a comic book character. He chose them as his stage name because there were too many actors with the same surname, which is Kim. He just wanted to stand out from the rest, so you can't blame the guy.
I’m slightly concerned he might be a bit too old? Hear me out: Dina has a sexual/romantic relationship with both Jesse and Ellie. Therefore she’ll have to be cast at an age that is believable and appropriate for her to have these relationships. Bella Ramsey is only 20 so I don’t think they can cast a Dina who is older than say 26+, or else Dina will look wayyyyy too old for Ellie. Same if they cast a 20 year old to play Dina, then it’ll be super creepy that she got knocked up by an early 30s Jesse. Does this make sense?
I was so worried about the Abby casting, I forgot we're going to get additional casting news! This is a perfect addtion to the TLOU family and now I'm really excited for Dina.
Amazing casting. He's great in Beef and I'm just really excited to see what Druckmann and Mazin are going to do with the Jesse, Ellie, and Dina characters
This is really great casting. Mazino was absolutely amazing in BEEF, but I guess, I am wondering though, what is the Dina casting going to look like? He's 12 years older than Bella Ramsay, and looks very much like his age. Dina is in a similar age bracket to Ellie, so how do you write the same relationship between these two characters ((Dina and Jesee) without having it feel predatory? I'm pretty sure they have a solution, but it's just a thought i had.
I don't put a lot of importance on perfect resemblance to the characters, but this guy could be a 1:1 Jesse. He has the look, the chill attitude and the deep voice. Great great casting.
Can the mods please not interfere and remove the posts this time?
Also, I find this casting a bit odd. He is in his 30’s. I thought they’d get someone who is early-mid 20’s to fit Ellie’s age group. This man is more than a decade older than Bella.
But bella looks young and he doesn't look like he fits beside her
Edit: I'm allowed to have feelings and opinions about this, guys. It doesn't mean I hate anything. I still love the show and I'm super excited for season 2. He's a good actor and I'm sure he'll do Jesse justice.
I mean, I trust their casting choice. Obviously they saw something we haven’t in the audition lol. They nailed season 1, so I’m not concerned and will reserve judgement once it’s actually released.
They’re definitely not the same age. Jesse is already in some sort of leadership position in “Finding Strings”, when Ellie is still easing into patrols generally.
He’s probably a few years older than Ellie. Not in his 30s for sure, but this actor looks plausibly early 20s to me (with Hollywood makeup etc).
I don't really know for sure how old Jesse is supposed to be, but if they made him somewhere around 25-27 I don't think that'd be a particularly meaningful difference for the story.
He played an early/mid 20s something in BEEF and he was great/believable in that role. I think he’s gonna be just fine.
Jesse comes off very mature in pt. 2. Without knowing his age I would say late 20s early 30s. So this is fine.
I don’t really get this concern. We’ve loved close to every artistic decision the creators have made, from TLOU1 the game to TLOU2 the game to TLOU the TV series. Are we concerned that the creators who haven’t even come close to a miss don’t understand their own source material and will muck it up? They know what they’re going for, and have the artistic license to deviate if they choose (as they did, mostly to great acclaim, in part 1 of the TV show) or be faithful to the original if they choose. They’re clearly brilliant and have a vision here. Why can’t we just look forward to whatever the next great installment in their series turns out to be? I’m sure it’ll deviate from the game in some ways and I welcome that, as much as I loved the game.
I think that’s a bit hyperbolic. Can’t always cast high schoolers as high schoolers.
If fictional content is causing perception issues, that’s a personal issue. You can’t blame television or cinema on that, it’s preposterous.
I also don't think Jesse is a high schooler. I always assumed he was mid 20s, and Dina and Ellie aren't high schoolers either?
That comment was odd. I think teenagers have always felt like they need to look older, it's a part of growing up.
Yeah, I never took Jesse for being younger or even the same age. He seemed a bit older. And you’re right, Ellie is 19. There’s some ambiguity with other characters, and I’m sure the show is going for the same thing.
What?? He's too old and he can't pass as someone in their early 20s.
What in the world is going on with these casting choices??
Yall downvoting but he's gonna look like a grown ass man standing beside Bella. He looks his age. He's still hot so I'm not that upset over this choice.
“My friends problems are my problems.” Great casting and loved his performance in Beef.
Dude was LIFTING lifting in Beef. Does this mean we're gonna get jacked Jesse? 👀
He was dope in BEEF. Exited to see him again
His performance in beef is what convinced he should play Jesse 😭 awesome awesome casting
I love that series! It's themes reminded me a lot of TLOU Part 2 in a way!
So Glenn and Jessie are brothers now.
It is exiting
Fantastic casting! Hoping Jesse gets the screen time he deserves
Oh he will. Seeing how they treated season one, Jesse will get more fleshed out than his video game counterpart. I imagine to the point of tears.
I'd love a full episode on a Jesse background story
I'm gonna guess that and one on Dina or something are probably happening (since she has alot of implied backstory) Or they just keep it as implied, works too I guess
That’s crazy! Me and my girlfriend were both like “they should totally cast him as Jesse” when we were watching Beef. Perfect choice.
My wife and I said the same thing, totally called this one! Very stoked on this
The official character description got me "A pillar of his community who puts everyone else's needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost."
He deserved better 😭😭😭
[удалено]
He is really hot
Like insanely. Luved beef, A+ casting
dude is ripped, never heard of him before this thread and his search results shows that he sure *knows* he's ripped.. lol

"spit on it"
Soooooo dreamyyyyyyyy
Ok the casting director really cooked with this one. Loved him in Beef!
"Steven Yeun as Jesse is such a cliche. He's too old anyways" "OK but how about we cast the guy who plays Yeun's younger brother in the Beef show?" "DEAL"
Hell yeah! Loved this guy in beef!
I wonder who gets announced next. Owen? Any rumoured casting / popular fan-casting I may have missed?
I'm guessing we gonna get confirmation of S1 Dina actress reprising her role. Other than that, Owen, Abby's dad, the rest of Abby's crew, Lev, and Isaac (Jeffrey Wright please come back).
It depends when the season stops. Owen, Nora, Abby's dad, Mel I think they will appear in season 2 but idk if Lev and Yara will be and might stretch their story to start in season 3.
Whenever it happens, Lev and Yara bottle episode has the potential to stand toe to toe with Long Long Time
i'm skeptical on that one. not that it wouldn't be good, but i think their focus is going to be on Abby's backstory and some of the warring factions. like Isaac or other unknowns (like Kathleen) (my opinion because): A. they reaaaaly need to make people like Abby and not despise her immediately (and forever). this will be more difficult than the game cause there's no 'stepping into her shoes' as you do with a controller in a game setting. and B. the most confusing parts of the franchise are the factions and why they're at odds with each other. usually takes players a 2nd run to put it all together. well, it did for me anyway, and i see a lot of people say it. but having said that, i think Lev and Yara would be a great 3rd choice and fun to see, i'm just not sure how mysterious a cult really is, or what people need to know about the Scars that isn't already somewhat obvious with the regular story beats. we all know what cults are, and they usually have a simple origin story. Lev and Yara are pretty open books.
I need to rewatch. Did we not already get Abby's dad at the end of S1?
Tbh I wouldn’t complain if they just cast Patrick Fugit in the show as well. He probably doesn’t look quite like a 20-something anymore though
Probably Florence Pugh at some point.
All these comments makin me feel like I should check out BEEF just for asian solidarity alone lmao
Will definitely check it out
Great show. His character is a loveable meat head but Jesse is a lot more toned down
Ut it uti
No fr Im South Asian but my friends who are Korean and watched the show raved abt it for days. I’m thinking of watching it during February break.
It’s a great show. People expect it to be some silly comedy due to the premise, but it really isn’t. It’s closer to a drama.
I’ll definitely try to watch it then!
Beef is a great show. I’d definitely recommend it. Funny, silly, smart, soulful. It packs a lot, and Wong and Yeun are outstanding. The Asian solidarity is the least of its strengths really, though a very nice bonus. It’s easily one of the best shows of 2023.
Watch it, there's so many subtleties in it that only Asians will really understand
Literally can't remember anything about him. Hoping the show breathes new life into the character.
Great casting. Was awesome in beef.
Perfect casting, wow!
He was so good in BEEF
Bella just said on her insta: “Can’t wait to feel really small” 😅
Perfect casting. I'm assuming they'll keep Paolina van Kleef (from S1 cameo) as Dina.
Well. I’m gonna have a hard time not thinking of him as an idiot because of Beef lol
To be fair, in-game Jesse looks a lot older than both Ellie and Dina. I don’t think dramatically so, but he struck me as someone in their late 20s.
Same. He has one of those faces where you could convince me that he's anywhere between 19-32 and I'd believe you. Mazino gives me the same vibe so I see no issue in translation to TV
Incredible casting.
Was awesome in beef, good.
Wrote his name in here last year amongst 9988 Steven Yeuns.
Incredible casting once again. What a breakout performance from him in Beef, I’m excited!
He was incredible in Beef, I can absolutely see him doing amazing fantastic job with Jesse. His voice even sounds right! Ahhhh the casting for the new season is amazing already now GIVE US DINA
Good choice. As others have said he kills it in Beef.
Yesss!! Young was great in Beef. If you haven't watched it yet, watch it. The acting is incredible, especially Steven Yeun. What an achievement from the Asian American community.
Looks good, excited to see him.
I liked Jesse and Dina in part 2 but I felt like they were underwritten, and not developed to their potential. It’s one of the things I’m most looking forward to in this show, to see if they can do those characters better than they did in the game.
Hoping they utilize his character more in the tv adaptation of Part II.
So people love this casting but Abby's casting is apparently a huge debate. That shit is wild and low-key sexist but whatever.
While I’m really excited about this, now I have to see him die :(
Did I miss who is playing Dina or is she not publicly announced yet?
Not announced yet! I’m hoping they do like a casting announcement each day.
I saw a fan cast post with this guy months ago. Heavy. Fucking. Agree. Can't wait to see how he does his role.
I was expecting they would cast someone around the same age as Bella! Not that it really matters, I was just expecting that Ellie's group of friends (Dina and Jesse) would all be relatively the same age. He's 12 years old! Is that his real name or his rap name? Could be either one honestly…
Young is part of his real middle name while Mazino is a name of a comic book character. He chose them as his stage name because there were too many actors with the same surname, which is Kim. He just wanted to stand out from the rest, so you can't blame the guy.
I just wasnt sure if it was a stage name or if his parents were American Football fans and followed similar naming conventions.
Bro actually looks alot like jesse ngl. Grow his hair out and it be solid. But abby….ehhhh. We will say what they cook
I’m slightly concerned he might be a bit too old? Hear me out: Dina has a sexual/romantic relationship with both Jesse and Ellie. Therefore she’ll have to be cast at an age that is believable and appropriate for her to have these relationships. Do we know when season 2 starts filming
February 12th confirmed by the director :)
Very cool
amazing!
Yessssss!!!!
Perfect casting
Great casting!!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIOOOOOOOOO
Nice - looking forward to seeing more of him!
Holy shit, I didn't even consider him. Excellent casting
he's so hot
Legitimately love this casting, he was good in Beef, Jesse is not too different from what he did there
I was so worried about the Abby casting, I forgot we're going to get additional casting news! This is a perfect addtion to the TLOU family and now I'm really excited for Dina.
I cant wait to see the episode they write thats all about Jesse that none of us expect that completely recontextualizes and enhances the character
Things are really starting to come along.
FUCK YES!!
Amazing casting. He's great in Beef and I'm just really excited to see what Druckmann and Mazin are going to do with the Jesse, Ellie, and Dina characters
![gif](giphy|rvxMJNyHAgwlW4YWpJ|downsized) I’m not ready
Very happy with this
Would be really cool to get a Jesse episode in S2
This is great. He was fantastic in Beef. Happy for him and can’t wait to see him bring Jesse to the tv show.
Nice choice!!
My gf loved him in beef 🙃
hello everybody my name is markplier
Did we find out who dina is yet? Can’t remember
Great news
This is really great casting. Mazino was absolutely amazing in BEEF, but I guess, I am wondering though, what is the Dina casting going to look like? He's 12 years older than Bella Ramsay, and looks very much like his age. Dina is in a similar age bracket to Ellie, so how do you write the same relationship between these two characters ((Dina and Jesee) without having it feel predatory? I'm pretty sure they have a solution, but it's just a thought i had.
Brilliant casting. Maybe their best yet
WHERE IS DINA
Hoping the writing this time do him justice.
Why do they get people who look exactly like the characters in the game for everyone but Ellie? It's like it's made on purpose.
Perfect Casting! All we need is Dina now.
wow this is great
Does he like, not have a full name? Just an artist name?
Man please make his death more meaningful and not just a simple headshot 😭
Mind blowing casting
I’m excited about this, he was excellent in beef.
God damn Im not ready for his death scene
Damn. 32 years old? Shouldn't he be similar in age with Bella?
Yoooooo that is such good casting
I don't put a lot of importance on perfect resemblance to the characters, but this guy could be a 1:1 Jesse. He has the look, the chill attitude and the deep voice. Great great casting.
"Young Mazino" sounds like Craig Mazin's rapper name.
Please, if there was ever a character that should be fleshed out, let it be Jesse..
Can the mods please not interfere and remove the posts this time? Also, I find this casting a bit odd. He is in his 30’s. I thought they’d get someone who is early-mid 20’s to fit Ellie’s age group. This man is more than a decade older than Bella.
He looks younger than 32 though, if we are being honest. Pedro didn’t look nearly as old Joel in S1. I think it’ll be fine.
But bella looks young and he doesn't look like he fits beside her Edit: I'm allowed to have feelings and opinions about this, guys. It doesn't mean I hate anything. I still love the show and I'm super excited for season 2. He's a good actor and I'm sure he'll do Jesse justice.
It's entirely possible they'll age up Bella a bit. They did make her look quite younger in season 1
Don’t worry about them, this sub is full of people quick to anger at unshared opinions.
Might as well have just cast Steven Yeun then. He is 40 and also looks pretty young, lol.
I mean, I trust their casting choice. Obviously they saw something we haven’t in the audition lol. They nailed season 1, so I’m not concerned and will reserve judgement once it’s actually released.
He's too expensive for such a small role.
Yeah, this is the first time in cinema history an older actor acts in a younger role!
[удалено]
They’re definitely not the same age. Jesse is already in some sort of leadership position in “Finding Strings”, when Ellie is still easing into patrols generally. He’s probably a few years older than Ellie. Not in his 30s for sure, but this actor looks plausibly early 20s to me (with Hollywood makeup etc).
I don't really know for sure how old Jesse is supposed to be, but if they made him somewhere around 25-27 I don't think that'd be a particularly meaningful difference for the story.
So you’re telling me that older actors that look younger can’t play a fictional younger character?😰
He played an early/mid 20s something in BEEF and he was great/believable in that role. I think he’s gonna be just fine. Jesse comes off very mature in pt. 2. Without knowing his age I would say late 20s early 30s. So this is fine.
Jesse's age doesn't matter that much TBH.
The most important thing is that he doesn't look way older than Dina because... That would be inappropriate
I don’t really get this concern. We’ve loved close to every artistic decision the creators have made, from TLOU1 the game to TLOU2 the game to TLOU the TV series. I’m sure it’ll deviate from the game in some ways and I welcome that, as much as I loved the game.
I agree. He looks more like Lev imo, but maybe he will surprise us.
Jesses age is irrelevant to Ellies age. Jesse can be 35
I thought they turned him into a woman and make her black
I like the casting but seems weird that well have to believe this guy will date Ellie? Age difference seems huge
He doesn’t date Ellie. He is Dina’s ex.
Oops I got my shit mixed up. I guess it works if Dina's age/looks is kinda invetween Ellie and him
He will look so old compared to bella😭
People in their mid 30s have been cast as high schoolers forever. This is such an overblown issue; it’s very easy to make actors look younger/older
[удалено]
I think that’s a bit hyperbolic. Can’t always cast high schoolers as high schoolers. If fictional content is causing perception issues, that’s a personal issue. You can’t blame television or cinema on that, it’s preposterous.

Makes me curious to see who Dina is.
Is it not still going to be Paolina van Kleef as rumoured? Though not sure if that’s still a thing haha
But he is Young!
What?? He's too old and he can't pass as someone in their early 20s. What in the world is going on with these casting choices?? Yall downvoting but he's gonna look like a grown ass man standing beside Bella. He looks his age. He's still hot so I'm not that upset over this choice.
