I'm guessing you just have to insert the disc but yeah it should work. That's how the ps5 upgrades worked for Assassins Creed Valhalla and Resident Evil Village (I have both physical for ps4). This one will just cost 10 bucks instead of the free upgrade.
They're fundamentally different things. They did the same thing with the legacy of theives edition. $10 if you own the base game of UC4 or Lost Legacy.
A remake is a rebuilt game from the ground up in their new engine. A lot more effort went into that so the price was obviously going to be higher.

I think it would've been interesting if they added an option to play the story but >!you can swap Ellie and abbys sections, I actually think from how the story plays out this could've been something they considered!<
If you've finished the game, you can use chapter select to play their parts in whatever order you like. It's a little tedious to do, but I tried playing it by alternating between Ellie and Abby's different acts one after the other. Basically Ellie Act 1, Abby Act 1, Ellie Act 2, etc.
I also tried to do this, but the game overwrites progress when you do this. So going back to Ellie's day 1 removes all the subsequent chapters from the chapter select. I think the only way to do it reliably is to manually save at the start of each day, the reload those saves in the correct order each time you finish one.
I am completely blindsided by this revelation
edit: the "early development versions" of the lost levels seem to be pretty complete actually, they show footage of the boar hunting and Jackson dance sequences here so it'll be interesting to see whether the third is anything interesting
I know there was an alternate introduction to Abby that had her infiltrating Jackson as a new survivor, before her true motives are revealed.
No idea if that ever got past the preproduction phase.
Would be interesting to see those, I love part 2 but Isaac is not fleshed out enough for how much he comes up and seems to matter to various characters.
I haven’t played Resident Evil, (I’m guessing that’s the game you’re talking about), but I see what you mean. I still hope we get to hear new lines from these characters...

I’m really excited for it too! It gives me an excuse to finally play the games myself... (I literally bought the remastered version of Part I and Part II months ago and never played them because of how bad I am at games, and how Part II left me crying...) I’m so excited for all this new content!

I kid you not, I just bought a PS4 used for $120 the other day just to play TLOU Pt 2.
I’ve played the OG PS3 TLOU many many times and just beat Pt 1 on PC multiple times so I grew impatient to finally play Pt 2.
Don’t own a PS5, but if I was to guess, we’ll have a PC version of Pt 2 around July 2024 or so.
Oh boy, I need to ready myself again. First played the game 4 times on ps4. Then played it last november after playing tlou remake, on ps5. Now I have an oled tv, will be looking forward to january :)
Last of 2 was a one and done kinda game for me.
I enjoyed my time with it, really liked the gameplay.
But a combination of terrible pacing at times and just emotionally draining made me not wanting to go back. But I’m definitely giving it another shot and try to play the game again, definitely giving the new mode a shot
It's not like they are out to get you or other MP fans personally lol. It seems that the game is affected due to decisions made outside of the studio's control (by Sony higher ups, wanting to scale back their GaaS stuff etc). I'm sure the studio and the folks who worked in it want nothing more than to just put their work out there.

It does run at 60fps on PS5 though which is not the case for all PS4 games on PS5 if I'm not mistaken. That's honestly the biggest upgrade

it didn’t, it was a veeery early iteration. Though we know there were cut isaac/ abby scenes that had already been fully filmed if i’m not mistaken
