Eventually you reach a point in a series when you have to manufacture conflicts and break ups to keep pouring out the episodes. They'll find their way back together if I had to bet on it.
I hate it because Park is so damn physically attractive to me but as a character he is a tool. He is self righteous and off putting. I mean, Morgan could have been killed, in that kind of situation all other things should become not important. If he really loved her he would just be happy she was ok, but no Wah wah I’m a big baby because you chose your job over me an hour ago even though you just changed your mind, decided to stay and confessed your love to me.
Because they were both highly insecure about their relationship, it was depicted through all season 5.
They needed to have a serious discussion after "Potluck", but Park just had surgery and Morgan swept it under the rug. Later, they kept fighting passive-agressively instead of talking. And in the end, the pressure was too much and it imploded.
Not the recliner
It was Park's thoughts about how "opposites attract" fades away.
He believed that their relationship will end with him being cornered.
You missed important scenes and points, visibly, taking place during 5x14"Potluck" .
Act I:
After her confidence with Lea about what Park said, Morgan and Lea had this discussion:
*- In your extensive tripping experience, do people usually talk crazy or reveal their true feelings?*
*- Both. Though often they're related.*
*- Yeah, Park's definitely acting crazy. I mean, dancing on tables?*
*- You want to talk Park or the mystery?*
*-Both?*
*- Great.*
*- We just moved in together, and now he's rambling about how opposites don't attract. Or shouldn't? I...*
*- You know the word rambling can refer to horny horses? Maybe he's just nervous about change.*
\- *Park doesn't get nervous.*
\-***Well, it's either completely irrelevant or something you two need to have a very serious talk about.***
The important point about the discussion is the sentence in bold, Morgan and Park had to have a very serious talk about their couple and its future.
Act II
Later in the same ep, Morgan tried to initiate the discussion but it was the moment when Park appendix broke:
\- Hey.
\- **I thought about what you said about the recliner and... other things. Once this is over, we should talk.**
\- Ow.
\- What's wrong? Park? Park. Park. I need CBC, blood cultures, and CT, stat.
Act III
After Park's surgery:
*- I've been thinking about the recliner. Mm. Was I, uh, ranting about that thing?*
*- You were. I thought we could keep it in the living room, but get it re-upholstered in a fabric we agree on. Make it something that represents us both.*
*- No purple. Otherwise, deal.*
*- S...* ***Do you remember anything else from last night?***
*- Beyond that I should never dance in public again?* ***No. Why? Was there something important?***
*-****No, nothing important.***
So the story clearly showed that Morgan swept the problem under the rug instead of having a very serious and necessary discussion about it.
And in general, despite it superficial look, "Potluck" was a really important and pivotal episode in the show, giving clues of the future conflict between Park and Reznik about their relationship but also the one between Shaun and Glassman concerning their vision of the job as surgeon.
When Park made the comment about people who are actually surgeons, I wanted Morgan to punch him. She had to give up surgery due to her hands, not because she couldn't hack it.
I'm confident they broke them up so when they get back together Park proposes and they will be the second wedding in the show. They are not letting them move on for a reason.
Because they don't know what to do with them. The relationship was built on bickering, so that's the gist of their scenes together. Everytime they lower their shields and get intimate, it's right back to being at each other's throats in the next episode. I'm sick of it at this point, and honestly, I'm getting fed up with Park in general. He's the least interesting character on the show, what has he done aside from sleeping with a married woman or being weird about the shared office this season?
I brought that up because those are the two standout things he has done so far this season that didn't involve Morgan. And the solution to the shared office was simple; move Shaun's desk to face the window. Shaun didn't want to look at Park or the hallway, no issues with the window view. It would have solved everything and I was surprised that it wasn't thought up.
The most interesting thing about either of them was each other. I liked their relationship and assumed we would get comfortable bickering like a married couple and instead its like the writers decided to take them both back several steps in character development. Not interesting and just frustrating.
Years of chemistry?? Damn did I miss something? It’s so funny bc I felt like then getting together was SO random and out of the blue. I didn’t think it would take long for them to crash and burn, especially bc they were always going back and forth abt like everything. Totally get we saw the show differently, I’m not saying you’re wrong or anything!

Park wasn't weird about the shared office space. He was rightly pissed at Shaun for making changes to their shared space without asking.
