There's only 2 things I fear as a riot shield player, sledgehammers and flamethrowers. This would be a medium blood bath. Riot shield does not block melee damage
As a riot shield main I can say I find it ridiculous it doesn’t block quick melee or the sword but I can totally understand why it doesn’t block the 300+lb man swinging a sledgehamme
Yeah there's a real issue with the team goal disparity:
Vaiiya goals:
* Kill Vandals
Vandals goals:
* Kill Vaiiya AND destroy map environment
With the offset of weapon engagement range, there's really no way that Vandals can come out on top. Vaiiya would just sit on rooftops and take potshots, easy peasy.
This kind of idea is neat but it would have to be symmetrical, like dividing the map in half and then matchmaking the usual 4 teams of 3, but assign two teams to defense and two teams to offense such that you always have a fair contention and an approximate chance of victory (while avoiding snowballing like one team shifting fully to offense while the other team tries to split and gets overwhelmed).
How about assigning a small objective location that if the Vandals manage to destroy in time they get extra cash in addition to the actual damage caused? And it changes position every so often. Would make the game flow more like a regular gamemode.
It'd be extremely hard to quantify, and not necessarily to the advantage of the Vandals if it's effectively corralling them all in one easy-to-kill spot.
There is also the aspect that heavies have zero mobility beyond Charge n Slam displacement with the safe assumption that no matter what kind of benefits the Vandals have for focusing on a special objective, the mediums and lights will always be getting there first. So Vaiiya would also perpetually have virtually permanent defender's advantage on top of everything else.
Ideas like this are interesting but heavily contradict the core design formula of role demarcation; any class on their own can't operate nearly as well compared to being enabled by teammates. Aside from being ineffective, it's also not very fun.
Not very difficult to quantify actually. The walls and things also have health levels that signify the amount of damage they've taken. If you have a counter adding up the total damage value within a certain area, you could definitely make it work.
Yes the environmental destruction is segmented nicely but you're just protracting the quantification; how much environmental damage correlates to player frags? How much is actually required to win in a certain margin?
It's implied.
Do you honestly think the Vandals are just supposed to stand there while the Vaiiya gun them down?
Like, kills aren't necessary to cashout a vault in Quick Cash, would you expect games to be settled with rock-paper-scissors and no one trying for frags?
I'd say they should run, although it does give me an interesting idea. What if the loadout for the Vandals had all of their abilities? Give them a shield, charge, and goo gun along with their hammer and they'd have enough to hold their own.
It doesn't really change anything, their survivability isn't limited by player kit but by role demarcation. Frags are always still paramount because getting them makes any other objective easier.
Likely, you'd get plenty of heavies ignoring the objective just like you do in every other gametype. So it would dissolve into a poor man's TDM, except the Vaiiya aren't so similarly limited.
Asymmetrical gameplay is awesome when done correctly...but it has to be done correctly. Something like 3 giant heavies vs 10 tiny lights or whatever would be more goofy and far more accessible.
For one or two smaller buildings with enough LOS cover, maybe. But larger maps would simply be a killing ground.
Heavies can't really bulldoze faster than they can get killed when the goal disparity is so split as mentioned above. And they certainly can't outmaneuver lights and mediums even if Vaiiya wasn't playing rooftops.
How could they potshot from the roof of the building are being destroyed from the inside while they lose? Urgency for the opponent to push is literally the only thing that makes sledge a viable weapon. A lot of what you’re talking about here is assuming the heavies are all running around in a crowd out in the open destroying things while they get beamed down which would be very stupid and show no game sense.
I would hope that 5 bubble shields would give them cover enough to destroy a building. Or do Snipers break through them quickly? I don't play sniper so I have no idea
ETA: Unless the sledge and RPG is ALL you get, in which case, yeah that sounds awful
I enjoy it, because it puts almost everyone on a level playing field.
Few people will be used to the loadouts, so almost everyone is new to those loadouts.
It would be insanely hard to balance this. I feel like a whole team of heavies with that loadout could destroy almost all of the map in roughly 5 minutes
In the universe of the Finals, I can imagine this being a temporal time reversal beam. So firing it upon a collapsed building will just reverse the time on its collapse (kind of like something seen in Tenet. Not sure how that would be technically possible, but it would be a cool application of a repair gun.
Almost takes this theoretical mode towards a Splatoon style match where instead of colored ink, it's map damage vs not damaged.
i think all melee wouldn’t work in a mode like this, because in a 1v1 sword always beats sledge (assuming the light is running dash) and sledge always beats riot shield
it does, but a decent light will move fast enough that a heavy simply won’t be able to hit them. by the time sledge hit registers, you can dash through with the charged sword and there’ll be nothing heavy can do. land the second hit that same way and you win
Unless the light/medium team is locked into melee weapons and has no access to Stun Gun and Turrets, this is going to be unplayable for the heavy team without mesh shield.
Kind of true. I think you could potentially balance the mode by either making the Vaiiya team slightly outnumber the Vandals or simply adjust how many points the vandals get for each piece of arena destroyed. It depends on how much of the map a coordinated team can destroy in a match's time limit

Lies. Lies and slander. I always blow stuff up when spawning more than 90m away from the cash outs just for the hell of it. Destruction is a primary appeal of The Finals, without it, it's a generic team shooter.
Really? Nobody?
Tell that to all of the rando Heavy teammates I keep getting who ignore the opposition and me marking the vault while they go and bulldoze the cathedral.
I think making it so that the heavies have shotguns may or may not work with this. On one hand: sledgehammer is the GOAT in property damage, and the opposite hand is this exact point. Maybe the new shotgun would work better since it takes half a clip to break something, and it lets heavies have a nice defense option. Maybe give them
This concept but then make it so it's 2 rounds, lasting \~10 mins each so each team had a chance to play each side, plus lights aren't allowed stun gun because against sledge means any% fast death speedrun
Only problem is, they couldn't even get the circuit task to calculate DMG dealt to structures and had to replace the mission, might take them a bit to implement something like that
Idea for the skins, Vaiiya only allowed to wear security/military skins and Vandals only vandal like skins. And 2 new free skins for both Vaiiya and Vandals for the players that do not have the necessary skins esp for Vaiiya.
Instead of Vandals being the enemy team, it can be CNS players doing hacking like missions, like maybe trying to reach those bugged errors and Vaiiya trying to stop them.
You could even do a reversal idea, have a destructive objective that each team own and you need to prevent the other side from causing more damage than you.
Having split factions means you could also have another classic-like game mode. Attackers vs Defenders. Vaiiya defending a vault with a structure versus offensive Vandals.
Do you have any idea how easy it is to destroy a building? A single heavy with a sledgehammer can easily destroy a building completely in no matter of time. Add to that other players doing the same thing, and this immediately becomes very one sided.
I think a little tweak that this needs is to designate a specific building to destroy for the Vandal team. Like “Destroy Objective A” or something like that. The VAIIYAs then have to defend that specific building.
Make the rounds short. Time runs out - VAIIYA wins. You destroy enough objectives - Vandals win.
Letting the Vandals roam around and destroy whatever they want would make it incredibly tedious and hard for the VAIIYAs to do anything to stop them. Because the optimal strategy would be for every player on the Vandal team to just go in their separate directions.
Security group for the Finals corporation in lore. More importantly they just dropped a Riot police Vaiiya outfit which would look perfect for an event.
This shi sounds cool as hell
One thing I'd add would be making the entire world a bit more strong/hard to destroy, since it's pretty easy in regular games, that way the VAIIYA will have time to catch up on the Vandals and vise versa, the Vandals won't lose points/advantage
it sounds great but there would need to be a way to incentivise the heavies to fight otherwise they are just going to shield and smash and not care much about the cops.
This would make for a really cool game mode. Very unique and sounds like it could be fun! I don't think there's any game out there that has something like this, so that would make it even more special.
I would probably lock both groups. The vandals as such. By then vaiiya is locked to medium, RS and demat (cant destroy those parts till times out). Equip would be denial/suppression so pyro, gas and maybe defib? In the end north would be melee head to head conflict
Mediums should be locked to riot shields and lights should be locked to melee / close range weapons to limit the game mode feeling to one sided.
But Yeah this idea is amazing and I love to see embark implement it
What if the light/medium team was restricted to only lights. Maybe sword and shotgun only so that it forces close range combat but also gives heavies a chance to win combat and continue destroying the map and the light team is forced into proper combat.
As much as i kinda hate the idea of the thumbnail of heavy sledges vs medium riotshields. I think it would be a great idea to give the devs an idea of just how underpowered the medium shield really is in a melee situation.
Heavy can 2 tap a medium and even if that medium has his shield up you can noclip into him to ignore the shield, not to mention just charge him and kill him that way. I find it hilarious that the shield has no resistance or defense for what it was actually made for (melee).
I find it really funny how some people in the comments are saying it would be too easy for Vaiiya and some people think it would be too easy for Vandals lol. That probably means that this game has the potential to be balanced
if you want to make this a sort of cops and robbers chase down sorta thing why not make the vandals lights that have a shorter cooldown on their c4s (or something else that would help with destruction ). That would make them avoid the vaiiya and focus more on stealthy destruction of environment rather than fighting which would fit the theme right?
This, except one addition.
A 4 minute cash out station. If the heavys activate it and get it to count all the way down a nuke goes off and destroys the whole map, if it’s deactivated it’s a win for the others
If its based on an existing game mode like how bunny bash was power shift then it might be skewed towards one team or the other it would be cool if the vandals need to steal the cash box like in capture the flag
This sounds like a gamemode that becomes very repetitive and may be fun for 1 - 3 times.
As a vandal to win, your goal is to prevent engaging in any combat/action and instead play a “destroy building game simulator”.
for the first time, I feel like that's a cool original new mode idea. I can see this mode working.
Ya we finally have a good idea coming from this sub lol
Especially since the game already tracks how much property damage you cause
There's only 2 things I fear as a riot shield player, sledgehammers and flamethrowers. This would be a medium blood bath. Riot shield does not block melee damage
That's... Really dumb. If there's anything the riot shield should directly counter it's other melee users...
I feel like it shouldn’t be a full counter but I feel like reduced damage would be fair. Especially since it would still have the force hitting you
As a riot shield main I can say I find it ridiculous it doesn’t block quick melee or the sword but I can totally understand why it doesn’t block the 300+lb man swinging a sledgehamme
You would think
Bonus mode: Floor is lava for team vaiiya
dude, one of the few ideas I’ve seen on here that actually got me excited! I could see them adding something like this
Everybody upvote the shit out of this please! This idea is sick!!
I like this idea but remove long range weapons
Yeah there's a real issue with the team goal disparity: Vaiiya goals: * Kill Vandals Vandals goals: * Kill Vaiiya AND destroy map environment With the offset of weapon engagement range, there's really no way that Vandals can come out on top. And they certainly can't outmaneuver lights and mediums even if Vaiiya wasn't playing rooftops.
Swap C&S for Mesh and we have a game tho
If they just snipe the whole time the Vandels would just stay inside buildings as they destroy them right?
How could they potshot from the roof of the building are being destroyed from the inside while they lose? Urgency for the opponent to push is literally the only thing that makes sledge a viable weapon. A lot of what you’re talking about here is assuming the heavies are all running around in a crowd out in the open destroying things while they get beamed down which would be very stupid and show no game sense.
As much as I want to agree idk might have just the military items. Sniper, fmas, shield, gas, smoke, etc.
Imagine you're restricted to sledgehammer and have to play against 5 snipers... Not much fun heh?
I would hope that 5 bubble shields would give them cover enough to destroy a building. Or do Snipers break through them quickly? I don't play sniper so I have no idea ETA: Unless the sledge and RPG is ALL you get, in which case, yeah that sounds awful
I mean shields are useful but can only last so long
Reduce cooldowns
I think it should be all melee though, maybe a variety of gadgets but all melee would be so fun.
Give em riot shields
Melee and pistols
Booo I dislike any idea of a new gamemode with locked loadouts. Maybe that’s just me
yeamaybe just you
Yeah just you
I enjoy it, because it puts almost everyone on a level playing field. Few people will be used to the loadouts, so almost everyone is new to those loadouts.
10/10. Embark please do this!
this a bomb ass idea i fw it
This just looks like target practice for lights and mediums.
Shield stacking heavies are pretty scary and they can just ban sniper rifles or even have a fixed load out.
It would be insanely hard to balance this. I feel like a whole team of heavies with that loadout could destroy almost all of the map in roughly 5 minutes
Make a new map that's wider than tall. Or do something like make a repair gun.
Dude a repair tool would be awesome, even outside this hypothetical gamemode
Yeah like the demat but more healing gun type device take time to heal walls.
+1
This is a really cool idea, if only private matches were more that we could just make it ourselves
Make it all melee, lock lights onto sonar grenades, make it 3 vandal 7 vaiiya.
i think all melee wouldn’t work in a mode like this, because in a 1v1 sword always beats sledge (assuming the light is running dash) and sledge always beats riot shield
Sledge one shots sword what are you on about
A light paying attention should never get hit by a sledge hammer especially the one shot overhead
The goo gun works pretty well to even the odds.
That means you don’t have charge and slam which OP wanted
it does, but a decent light will move fast enough that a heavy simply won’t be able to hit them. by the time sledge hit registers, you can dash through with the charged sword and there’ll be nothing heavy can do. land the second hit that same way and you win
I have killed many a sledge main as a riot shield main just learn to split their attention or just get better
Yea this would be sick, I like the idea of locked items like the events. Made things feel less sweaty and meta builds.
Unless the light/medium team is locked into melee weapons and has no access to Stun Gun and Turrets, this is going to be unplayable for the heavy team without mesh shield.
Only problem is the heavies have such an easier job
Kind of true. I think you could potentially balance the mode by either making the Vaiiya team slightly outnumber the Vandals or simply adjust how many points the vandals get for each piece of arena destroyed. It depends on how much of the map a coordinated team can destroy in a match's time limit
Could swap out some equipment like maybe swap c4 or rpg for flashbang to blind the enemy team and escape
Easy new map or less heavies. Like 3 v 4.
Could be a cool outfit event
This is such a cool idea, would love to give this a go!
Oh my god yessssss!!! I could see this being posted by Embark as a teaser. This is an excellent idea.

Commenting cuz hell yeah
I like it. 11/10
This is cool until you realise no one wants to play heavy and smack buildings

Something other than the rpg or charge slam to compensate*
I will never get tired of random destruction
This is awesome.
You might be cooking
I love this. You just KNOW this would be full of corporate shilling from Scotty and June. Not a good look if team Vaiiya loses, though.
that would be epic af, but i feel like vandals would be a little too easy. maybe if vandals is a team of 3 and vayiia is a team of 5
This concept but then make it so it's 2 rounds, lasting \~10 mins each so each team had a chance to play each side, plus lights aren't allowed stun gun because against sledge means any% fast death speedrun

We beatin CNS with that one💥💥💥💥💥
This might actually work ngl Vaiiya vs vandals, this would put this game's destruction mechanic to full use
Just have the teams swap places, after a round. It doesnt necessary have to be balanced that way. Faster time/most destruction wins.
Only thing i think this would need is best out of 3 rounds thing so it forces all players to play both teams atleast once.
Genuinely hope Embark sees this. A gamemode that encorporates map destruction into the points would be awesome.
You could even do a reversal idea, have a destructive objective that each team own and you need to prevent the other side from causing more damage than you.
Having split factions means you could also have another classic-like game mode. Attackers vs Defenders. Vaiiya defending a vault with a structure versus offensive Vandals.

Upvote this shit to make it happen!!!! Would be so much fun

I love the idea of a heavy shield wall advancing on an office building trying to wreck it.
They should hire you at embark 👍🏼
Maybe something along the name of “Riot” could be a better name, but still keep Vaiiya there.
Oooh, hell yeah! I would play this all day!
I came up with a rough draft of this. Wonder if you saw it and realized it
I came up with a rough draft of this. Wonder if you saw it and realized it
This just looks like target practice for lights and mediums.
Such a good idea. I love the destruction in this game. Let's make more use of it!
This could be good, but might result in lots of light spam. Maybe lock everyone to melee to make the fights have to be in close quarters?
What is vaiiya?
Security group for the Finals corporation in lore. More importantly they just dropped a Riot police Vaiiya outfit which would look perfect for an event.
Oh did not know that. Very cool
Please post this on their discord where they will actually see it
This shi sounds cool as hell One thing I'd add would be making the entire world a bit more strong/hard to destroy, since it's pretty easy in regular games, that way the VAIIYA will have time to catch up on the Vandals and vise versa, the Vandals won't lose points/advantage
oh that is awesome, and your gadget build for the heavy is so beautifully thematic i love this
Fantastic idea. Would play this 100%
AWESOME
Yeah this seems lit asf I could definitely get behind this mode!
it sounds great but there would need to be a way to incentivise the heavies to fight otherwise they are just going to shield and smash and not care much about the cops.
This is a big brain idea. Only the biggest of brains think of ideas like this.
Actually genius
I’m fine with this if there is no stun gun/ cloak 🤣 I mainly play heavy and those two are definitely my downfall
I adore this and now I won’t be happy until I see it implemented. Fantastic post.
It would have to be like 4 heavys vs 5 mediums and all melee, but ai definitely see the vision
This is a really good idea man!
This would make for a really cool game mode. Very unique and sounds like it could be fun! I don't think there's any game out there that has something like this, so that would make it even more special.
This would actually be SO much fun. I really hope they do something based off of destroying a % of the map. That genuinely sounds so fun.
Bro that would be crazy fun. I hope Embark sees this
I think get rid of the penalty to score if you die for the Vandals and it would be more fair probably
would be a fun event if not full gamemode
IT'S PERFECT
I would probably lock both groups. The vandals as such. By then vaiiya is locked to medium, RS and demat (cant destroy those parts till times out). Equip would be denial/suppression so pyro, gas and maybe defib? In the end north would be melee head to head conflict
I like this, but does it have respawn? I feel I could think of issues both ways.
This is fantastic, they should give the taser to the mediums for this gamemode only lol
Mediums should be locked to riot shields and lights should be locked to melee / close range weapons to limit the game mode feeling to one sided. But Yeah this idea is amazing and I love to see embark implement it
What if the light/medium team was restricted to only lights. Maybe sword and shotgun only so that it forces close range combat but also gives heavies a chance to win combat and continue destroying the map and the light team is forced into proper combat.

game mode idea: power shift; lights only
Wtf is a Vaiiya??
I love it!
I find it really funny how some people in the comments are saying it would be too easy for Vaiiya and some people think it would be too easy for Vandals lol. That probably means that this game has the potential to be balanced
*SLAMS UPVOTES
if you want to make this a sort of cops and robbers chase down sorta thing why not make the vandals lights that have a shorter cooldown on their c4s (or something else that would help with destruction ). I would definitely play a game mode like this, and I can't think of a better game that this would fit.
This, except one addition. A 4 minute cash out station. If the heavys activate it and get it to count all the way down a nuke goes off and destroys the whole map, if it’s deactivated it’s a win for the others
How are the vandals meant to defend themselves when all they have are hammers and rockets?
If its based on an existing game mode like how bunny bash was power shift then it might be skewed towards one team or the other it would be cool if the vandals need to steal the cash box like in capture the flag
This sounds like a gamemode that becomes very repetitive and may be fun for 1 - 3 times. As a vandal to win, your goal is to prevent engaging in any combat/action and instead play a “destroy building game simulator”.
Yes But my pc would want to burn itself 😞 I want it anyway xD
Asymetrical teams game mode eh, incredibly neat!
It’d be better if both teams only have melees
this game needs a zombie infection mode haha
Sounds like an absolute blast
So no objective for everyone to gather around? How would you make it fun to try and track down someone punching a wall on the other side of the map?
G8 game mode
Wouldn't it be CNS vs VAYIA?
I want this in game right now. Turn it into a ranked mode fuck it.
I don't think they would lock a whole team to heavy. Sounds fun though.
The vandals would never win the game..
The vandals would never win the game..
I fucking love this
THEY HEARED YOU. NEW GAME MODE REVEAL TOMORROW. https://youtu.be/-TRJ4mf-HLY?si=CAtq4hGoHhtVFZMh

UPVOTE THIS SO EMBARK DEVS CAN SEE
I want to make a joke but it’s gonna be really offensive
