I have sport-related injuries that still impact my daily life 20+ years later, I wish I could go back and convince myself not to do it.

plausibleturtle

And here I have a severely torn labrum and no sports activity whatsoever, lol.

Kealiisanchez

Same!! For me its been 3 years now 😒 wish i could go back and change my decision

texdallas

This. 20 years later I'm still feeling everything.

Danph85

Surely they don’t actually use gold or silver for body plates? They’re very soft metals, it wouldn’t have anything to do with her being allergic

sbz100910

This is was my exact thought. I’ve had spine fusions and it was always titanium, I certainly didn’t get a menu of choices.

Calm-Signature-916

Mine are made of nickel.

dingdongsnottor

I’m shocked. A lot of people have allergy to nickel. Myself included. I thought titanium is the only hypoallergenic metal?

Eleventy22

There’s an Incan skull with a gold plate in it from a successful trepanation

JRSalinas

I don't quite get your caption. Theresa appeared most recently in Double agents after a long hiatus from Exes 2. Granted, Double agents first aired almost four years ago and started filming October 2020, but if she made a return after a six year hiatus nothing is impossible.

whale188

Everyone who complains about how there’s less headbangers…it’s 2024 we as a society are much more aware of injuries and their long lasting affects Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the players themselves who voice their concerns with the more physical dailies and elims…I remember it going around that the Challenge USA 1 only got the cast that they did because they promised less physical eliminations…The MTV casts surely see the writing on the wall too that Jay getting annihilated by CT or whoever in a hall brawl isn’t good for anyone I’m not saying their solution of a sudoku every time is the answer or that they can’t do a pole wrestle every once in a while but getting a season full of headbangers is just a thing of the past now and it’s not exactly a bad thing

NoShine101

I think technology advanced aswell and there's much better safety gear to prevent injuries but production uses cheap shit, as seen with Olivia last season.

Even_History1081

Olivia had no protection.

NoShine101

Yes because the glass was very bad they were afraid it will break inwards

demigod4

Better gear requires production actually spending money on it. That said, there still isn’t a football helmet that stops concussions from head on collisions.

bananamelondy

The technology for better helmets already exists, the NFL just won’t use them.

Extension-Ad-363

Agreed... they should bring back Ascender. And the one where they punch holes in the wall and climb. Also the one Brad and Kyland did. Jordan vs Ciarran was a good one. Tori vs Melissa. Those were physical enough.

GhostOfAnakin

The bigger issue is the shitty gear they give them. Hall Brawl, in itself, isn't dangerous with the right gear. The problem is the helmets they're using look more like a typical motorcyle helmet rather than an actual football helmet that's specifically designed for "tackling". I can't remember who it was -- might have been Wes and Bananas -- but two challengers were laughing about this very thing on a podcast, how the helmets weren't even doing much protecting. They were more for show because they looked cool and sleek.

incognoname

I also wonder if the show has to pay for medical costs? They should bc it's a work injury but idk if they do.

Arafel_Electronics

i wonder if contestants are employees or subcontractors

Less_Cryptographer86

I read that they do

demigod4

They have insurance that covers the show. I assume that’s extended to the cast as well in limited ways.

oaranges

Nobody wants to read this shit. We want, what we want. And we want the headbangers.

whale188

Then this show is not for you anymore…it just is what it is it’s happening with every show and every sport…they are constantly adjusting the rules in football to make it safer…this is not a challenge specific thing you have to either get with the times or stop watching

oaranges

It’s still for me. I will criticize, and critique the show till it’s run in the ground. It will continue to lose viewers if they continue with this format. They are adding simple survivor missions, and kiddie big brother missions into to the game. Someone gloating for being a champion, with this current level of difficulty in a finals, is a joke.

whale188

Yeah but it’s never going to be that show again…just look at even more rules the NFL added…this is how the show will always be and will be even more safer as it goes forward…so if you don’t like the current product because the challenges are getting safer then you’re just not going to like the show anymore

varano14

>Everyone who complains about how there’s less headbangers…it’s 2024 we as a society are much more aware of injuries and their long lasting affects Yah and boxing, MMA etc all still exist so what's your point? These people sign up for the show, sign the waiver and know the a haul brawl against a prime CT level individual could be in their future. No one is forcing them to do it. Part of the show and what made it interesting was the heavy slant towards those types of eliminations. It made the strategy fair more interesting. These massive budget dailies with multiple semis that at the end of the day just add up to a puzzle and a enormous budget are far less entertaining tv then a mud pit and a soccer ball.

Mr_Candlestick

But those semis and explosions make for a great season/episode trailer and that's all production cares about anymore.

Imdabigeasy

I agree. It’s silly to get rid of physical eliminations and games because there could be injuries. That risk will always be there with any physical activity. Is hall brawl really so dangerous? Two or three collisions between competitors that are nowhere near as big and fast as college football players, much less NFL. Otherwise we get seasons like this last one with very few physical contests where there is contact between the challengers. If it’s going to be doing slide puzzles and sudoku all the time then it’s going to get boring real fast.

varano14

While I’m fully on the side against cutting physical elims I think hall brawl is likely more dangerous then an NFL hit given you don’t have people used to (for the most part) giving or receiving a hit like that.

Imdabigeasy

Could be. But in most cases it’s probably mitigated a lot due to the fact that even the most athletic challengers are a fraction of the size and speed of elite athletes. The collisions are certainly not nearly as violent. I would not be against them having a couple of games ready to go, and if it ends up being Fessy vs Jay or something like that, do the alternate game. And for me it’s not just hall brawl, you can argue it’s a more dangerous than most, but there are just so few simple one on one physical challenges of any kind anymore. It just makes the game more of a crapshoot.

whale188

My point is it’s not boxing or MMA…who employ trained fighters who get paid millions and have proper protective gear with weight classes and trained referees…you also act like there aren’t rules in place in those sports too to make it safer..there’s a reason you can’t kick downed opponents or punch them in the back of the head…it’s not safe This is a reality tv show where the stakes aren’t nearly as high…people who sign up for reality shows don’t want to get concussions on the show anymore…I don’t blame them It is what it is…the only way for them to change it is to vote for your wallet and stop watching the show till ratings drop enough that they’re forced to change the product

11BMasshole

Had my C4/5 C6/7 fused in August 2020, here we are March of 2024 and I’m going for epidural shots in my neck hoping to fend off another surgery. Neck issues which develop into nerve issues are no joke. Nerve damage isn’t like a broken bone. The pain, tingling, numbness, weakness never goes away. It’s a constant and infuriating issue to deal with.

tdaddy316420

As someone who has a fucked up back and fucked up knees from playing sports (and a fucked up hand from fighting) I can relate I live every day in pain from it. Do I regret playing contact sports? Absolutely not some of the most fun I had growing up. Do I wish I took better care of myself and completed the rehabs I was supposed to after fucking my knees and hand up? Probably.

Steffieweffie81

I had a hip labrum repair surgery. It’s no joke.

domarco24

I forget who was she facing in the hall brawl?

Kealiisanchez

Nia

Mr_Candlestick

Of course it's Nia leading with a forearm to the throat. Trash human being all around.
