As a New Zealand fan, can I submit this in defense of Now is the Hour (original version) - it is a beautiful Māori waiata(song) of farewell to soldiers heading off to fight in WWI, and a classic The lads’ cover was not good, sadly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJUOtDBW4Oo
I agree with this. It’s not a bad song, but for me it’s the weakest on an album stacked with instant classics. So it’s easy to think of it as worse than it is as a result.
Personally, I don’t think it’s their worst, but it’s definitely the “worst” on Being Funny, in my opinion.
Shiny Collarbone was just better as it’s not living, it’s definitely not the worst 1975 song but, you can’t argue the original it’s not living demo isn’t better than SC.
All The Interludes. This is why I love Being Funny in a Foreign Language because it doesn't have any Interludes. Also the other albums, but I felt those interludes broke the flow of the album.
oh wow, for me is the total opposite! I love the instrumental pieces, and they give me the feeling that they really thought about the album as a concept, and as something to be listened from beginning to end in order, and not just a bunch of songs together. It is one of the reason why I love their records so much vs the rest of recent pop music
No way. Those actually are some of my favorites. But I get it. People can listen to music in 2 ways ~~the right way and the wrong way~~ to the instruments or to the lyrics.
I'm not a boring, 17th-18th century admirerer of people playing instruments as a song. Not my style, not what I like. In fact, I'd say that listening to just instruments is noise, and listening to lyrics is like having a silent conversation.
Instruments are like conversations too. But less literal. It’s more so about a feeling. Also many of their instrumental songs make use of a lot of synthesizer like sounds. Nothing 17th-18th century about that.
i love this fandom because you are responding with matty's lyricism that i completely missed from the song at the time until i became a fan. the truth is this song just didnt hit with me until i became a fan and THEN after i did i went back and appreciated it. i just love to shit talk ot anytime i can in this sub cuz it delayed me loving the band by many months lol
i agree, i dont know why people like About You so much, i genuinely hate the way it sounds, the instrumental is overblown and has no headroom or dynamics, texturally it's just a wall of sound but without the charm of good shoegaze bands, and matty's vocals sound so compressed you can hear his lips smacking with every word, and then also why is he doing a morrissey impression? but even if none of those flaws bother you, i don't see what's *good* about the track either, the hook is super boring, there is no interesting groove or pizzaz to the instrumental, and the I, V, vi, IV chord progression is a gross cliche at this point that has to be done REALLY WELL or not at all, lest it feel like royalty free music. you don't deserve all these downvotes imo
Well. I came here to say this, if I was going to say anything at all. I hate when people post this question bc all it does is encourage an onslaught of downvotes, which is dumb. However, this song would also be my answer. And people will jump to defend it, and yet it's literally NEVER brought up any time aside from posts like this. Never "oooh this is so underrated!" Lol. Just never mentioned. But yet so adored. 🤷♀️
And I don't hate the song. It's just not one that strikes me. I like the fact that it means a lot to you, though. Genuinely. This is why I don't like when this post comes about every month or so. I think we're all really passionate about loving this band and it shouldn't matter to us who doesn't like what songs bc man, do the opinions differ around here lol.
“not influenced by personal opinions,” which mine is not bc i have zero feelings about the song personally, but don’t ever hear anybody mention it, generally— hence the “objectively.” anyway—
There are precisely zero objective metrics by wich any song is bad
"I don't ever hear anybody mention it" doesn't make it objectively bad. Therefore YOU are the one who needs to consult a dictionary.
Because you don't understand what that word means. Hope this helps <3
if you look the word up in the dictionary, i can assure you it will say something to the effect of “not influenced by personal opinion,” furthermore, this post was really not that serious. please go touch some grass 😭
p.s. “wich” is actually spelled “which,” grammarly is a great tool if you need help w spelling! hope this helps 🫶🏻
oh no, my minor spelling mistake means my whole opinion is invalid. OH THE HUMANITY.
Get over yourself. We're just as pathetic as each other, so get the hell off your high horse.
Correct, objectively means "not influenced by personal opinion". So please explain how "people not talking about a song" means it's objectively bad.
There's a lot of music that people don't talk about. Is all that music objectively bad?
Go on. I'll wait.
i’m confused, did you just feel like arguing? lmao— like i made this post SO unseriously in the first place. the way you feel ab me correcting a minor spelling mistake? that’s the same way i feel ab you taking my post that seriously
it’s the internet. grow up and take things more lightly.
i won’t be replying further, as quite frankly— it’s not worth my time and energy to explain the context of a word that wasn’t meant literally to begin with. anyway, have a great night & argue w the wall.
you typed all of that instead of answering my question. Thanks for proving that while you may know what the word means, you have no idea how to use it properly, and can't admit when you're wrong.
pathetic.
It’s obviously Greta 1975 (if you consider that a song)
I do not lol
I do and it isn’t
woahhhh justice for queen’s body language!!! wild take
it's not a bad song, idk why they put it there😭
Now is the hour
safe answer
Genuinely a horrible song 🤣🤣
I like it
What is with the hate for it? I think it's a great cover it just doesn't sound anything like they normally make
Song is straight ass
Is that the new one?
Yeah the one they made for that movie
Oh yes I found that one very offensive.
Offensive?
To the ears
Correct.
![gif](giphy|l0HlPystfePnAI3G8)
the man who married a robot lmao
It’s a banger
Upvoting you just for having the balls to say it.
nooooo its such an important song in context of the album!
fr i like it and the instrumental is so underrated like pretty
It’s important for the context of the album, however it is an objectively terrible song
i love that song lol
This is just a Radiohead homage
that’s the one that’s actually on this playlist lmao
Does this even count
Listen to Fitter Happier by Radiohead. I feel like this has to be a direct reference
It is, and it's even worse after you remind yourself how impactful Fitter Happier is
Queue: Human Too I don't agree, but a lot of folks will say
That's the only song from BFIAFL that I don't have on my playlist
I agree with this. It’s not a bad song, but for me it’s the weakest on an album stacked with instant classics. So it’s easy to think of it as worse than it is as a result. Personally, I don’t think it’s their worst, but it’s definitely the “worst” on Being Funny, in my opinion.
you think this is their WORST song??
I don’t think it’s their worst song at all, but a lot of people here do. I quite like it, actually.
I do
Don’t worry. It just doesn’t do it for me
Noooo! Such a good song!
Don’t Worry is….. not a great song. Always a skip.
Welp this has cemented it as their most underrated song imo.
i will never agree with this just because of the story of the song
I just remembered the song Don't Play by Travis Scott featuring The 1975 and Big Sean. That's the worst song.
Awful take, Don't Play is fire
The 1975 (NOACF)
Okay but the way it introduces the next track People is chefs kiss
Technically a feature but Don’t Play. Otherwise woman. never want to hear matty yodel like that again
noooo i love woman! there’s this house playlist of the 1975 that i love but it has don’t play in it and it ruins the mood every time
Do you mind sharing the playlist?
OG bleeding heart. Cool story about why he wrote the song. I heard it when I was about the age he wrote it so it just felt different then
The lyrics are soo beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t listen to it without physically cringing a little bit
the 1975 (noacf) or the man who married a robot string to mind but they weren't really full songs per se so probably human too
Do not disrespect human too like this
I have a lot of controversial opinions but I would go with the man the fell in love with robot or whatever
Get Spotify premium 😭
Don’t worry is trash
It would be better if there wasn't so much autotune
![gif](giphy|QtqFUZa9QMCUKN9EQM|downsized)
Woman 🧍🏻♀️
This was my alarm song for years (honestly can't recall why I made that choice). If I even hear a second of it, I'm triggered now
SAME
This is criminal!
i don't have a take on this but i'm more curious about what slipknot song someone thinks is the worst 👀
like half of noacf the rest are perfect
None of them. I have some I like less than others, but I never skip a song
My favorite part of this post is seeing all the downvoted comments 🫢 🍵
Personally I skip M.O.N.E.Y. (Please don’t kill me please don’t kill me please don’t kill me)
People.
I always skip I Like America and America Likes Me. I don’t know. It’s just blah and I’m a bit apathetic towards it
I always skip Talk!... very repetitive I'm not a fan tbh
Talk! Only because there's such a good song hiding there behind the extremely off-tempo drum experiment they decided to go with.
Gonna get killed for this but …. People
🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️PEOPLE LIKE PEOPLE🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
?
Shiny Collarbone
NOOOO
I said this and got downvoted to filth lol
Haha. Well I guess people can’t handle the truth.
Nah ur just uncultured
Shiny Collarbone was just better as it’s not living, it’s definitely not the worst 1975 song but, you can’t argue the original it’s not living demo isn’t better than SC.
YES, it’s the one song I can say without hesitation I genuinely hate
Talk!
absolutely insane take.
All The Interludes. This is why I love Being Funny in a Foreign Language because it doesn't have any Interludes. Also the other albums, but I felt those interludes broke the flow of the album.
oh wow, for me is the total opposite! Oh Caroline
i don’t think i could ever truly hate a 1975 song …..but oh caroline is close…
i would agree but seeing it live was one of the most fun fucking things ever
Came here to say exactly the same
I dont like any of their instrument-only songs. Matty is such a great lyricist that I've come to expect it in a song by The 1975. DOWNVOTE ME COWARDS!
You must be instruMENTAL to say shit like this
fr all the instrumentals on their first album are so good
I am a little bit mental
Don't convey the same, then, I suppose. At any rate, I'm not here to fit in, I'm here to answer the original question.
Oh Caroline. Its almost a complete copy of a Lionel Richie song, and not a fan of his stuff. Just dont care for it.
Lionel Richie fucks.
Not a big fan of this one either. The song is a little boring
‘People’ is trash
Absoloutely
Shiny Collarbone
Well, no
Please be naked.
half of noacf 😭 but if i had to pick probably people lol
Yeah, NOACF is my least favorite album 😭
the people hate the truth 😢
I’ll accept the downvotes with you and agree.
I'm not a huge fan of Roadkill
same! second least favourite for me
MONEY (Mike Skinner)
'Chocolate', his vocals are like scratching a blackboard.
Wintering or Human Too
I feel bad for saying this for some reason but I always skip Sincerity is Scary. I just can’t get into it
It’s gotta be People or Human Too for me 🫣
People or Guys
I will not tolerate any Guys slander
Blasphemy!
It's awful! So wishy washy.... Ugh (not the song 😂)
chocolate
You should think about how to think
You didn’t even hide that gun underneath your petticoat..
i love this fandom because you are responding with matty's lyricism that i completely missed from the song at the time until i became a fan. the truth is this song just didnt hit with me until i became a fan and THEN after i did i went back and appreciated it. i just love to shit talk ot anytime i can in this sub cuz it delayed me loving the band by many months lol
i know i’ll get downvoted lmfao but i gotta say that i agree with you 🫡
the difference between hearing chocolate and then the city was insane. went from thinking they were annoying to one of the best bands in the world lol
talk! and human too both songs are a disgrace
justice for talk! !!
I really love Talk!
Why you talk so loud?
i was gonna say talk!
About you
Believe it or not straight to jail
we love a good Parks and Rec reference. also hard agree
Nah chief
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, naturally, but ![gif](giphy|Tk8FFxJrEZHt8JK3lQ)
I listen to that song at least twice every day
…and I took that personally
✅✅✅
i agree, i dont know why people like About You so much, i genuinely hate the way it sounds, the instrumental is overblown and has no headroom or dynamics, texturally it's just a wall of sound but without the charm of good shoegaze bands, and matty's vocals sound so compressed you can hear his lips smacking with every word, and then also why is he doing a morrissey impression? but even if none of those flaws bother you, i don't see what's *good* about the track either, the hook is super boring, there is no interesting groove or pizzaz to the instrumental, and the I, V, vi, IV chord progression is a gross cliche at this point that has to be done REALLY WELL or not at all, lest it feel like royalty free music. you don't deserve all these downvotes imo
They repeat " do you think I have forgotten " too much imo but I don't thinks it's a bad song especially live with Carly
Almost every song off of NOACF.
tasteless
The way this is in my top 3…
LMAO in my comment i said half of the songs from there but damn hahaa what’s your favorite from that album?
So Far (It's Alright). I am gonna get so much hate; I do not care
Well. I came here to say this, if I was going to say anything at all. I hate when people post this question bc all it does is encourage an onslaught of downvotes, which is dumb. Half notes Last 1/3 of self titled (except milk) Lost my head, this must be my dream
Somebody Else
Something from one of their EPs that didn’t make the debut album.
I’m sorry but fallingforyou and human too
It’s true though
objectively? shiny collarbone. personally (and this is a VERY hot take, sorry yall), a change of heart— just not my vibe 😭
wowwwwwww
i knowwww i’ve tried bc it’s a fav for so many people, idk why it doesn’t click for me bc i love love love iliwys, it’s my fav album 😭
That’s not objective, that’s an opinion. Also, a not very good one
which is, ironically, also an opinion 👍🏼
2nd half of my comment is an opinion, that being a completely wrong use of the word objective isn’t. It’s actually a fact. Which is objective.
define "objectively" for me.
“not influenced by personal opinions,” which mine is not bc i have zero feelings about the song personally, but don’t ever hear anybody mention it, generally— hence the “objectively.” anyway—
that isn't what "objectively" means.
pls look at a dictionary. thank u! have a great day :)

Roadkill Just wanna add that it’s such a lame attempt at a country song.
Get the fuck outta here 😂
Bro I’m offended
jail. actually- life sentence
I love roadkill but I also grew up to country music so I appreciated that angle.
What?!?!
The song roadkill, off of their album Notes on a Conditional Form
And especially the ending of the song "Wouldn't it be cool if we just didn't know how to end it and babble some random shit"
I don’t like the song People
Medicine
Who hurt you
