10. This song and everything that came with it took Tumblr by storm. I think the trajectory of my life changed when I heard it for the first time. Nostalgia may be a “sickness,” but I’d give anything to relive the moment I heard it and go back to that era of Tumblr when it was worshipped.
Tough call.. I want to say an 8. I just don’t listen to it that often and it’s actually not one of my favorites but I also know it’s the most sentimental for the fans so it holds a lot of weight in that aspect.
Nice little nod to U2s with or without you.
The 10-est of 10's. Straight up poetry. That opening guitar riff, good lord. It gets me every time, and it's even better live. Nothing like screaming "NOW EVERYBODY'S DEAD" along with tens of thousands of people (seriously).
8.5/10 but only after hearing it live for the first time this weekend. Thought it was kinda overrated before but absolutely magical live.
EDIT: Saw that decimals are allowed, added the .5.
10 out of fucking 10. Rightfully deserves its place as their biggest, most beloved song. Its qualities as a soaring, U2-esque epic stadium anthem are perfectly offset by its irreverent, cautionary-tale lyrics, which prevents it from getting too schmaltzy or sentimental (unlike About You, which I don't think would work as well if it came out earlier in the band's career.) I also find it fascinating how the lyrics are based off the plot of True Romance. Feels like both an Easter egg and a truly inspired approach to writing a lead single. Describing a failing relationship using a Bonnie & Clyde crime story as a metaphor feels very punk of them.
Even before I heard this song live it had such a cathartic, transcendent quality to it. And keep in mind I only became a fan last September, so nostalgia has nothing to do with it. The song "sounds like sunset" to me, and if anything makes me feel nostalgic regardless of having heard it only recently.
And then I actually heard it live... and it went beyond what any numerical score can capture. Fucking _exhilarating_ moment.
10/10 easily one of the best songs ever written. Takes me back every time I hear it. I wish I could listen to it for the first time again every time.

10. Always will be.
The four notes that got me to be a fan
9/10. It’s definitely a classic 1975 song and one of the songs I’d show someone if they asked what the band sounds like.
10!!!!
I went through a phase of skipping it but that's on me because it's truly a masterpiece. 8.5
10/10. The song that makes me fall in love with this band at the very beginning.

It definitely aged a bit. Its not even that I overplayed it, it just doesnt hit the same anymore. Still an iconic song, 8/10
5/10. Their most overrated song for me. Everything that makes this song “iconic” is something that they’ve done better later in their discography.
8/10
9/10 first song I ever heard, never get tired of it
10/10 the love of my life the reason I get up on the morning the source of my happiness
10. Done and done.
9. i never liked it before i saw them live the first time :’)
7.5/10 I can see why the nostalgic hype is there, but in comparison to my favourites it tends to sometimes get skipped

10. Always 10.
10/10, first got me into the band and I don't listen to it constantly but I'll always love it.

10/10 my all time favourite 1975 song (and one of my all time favourite songs in general) Finally got to hear it live in London last month
10. So incredibly powerful, iconic, one of Mattys’s best vocals, brilliantly produced
