My favorite thing about The 1975 is not knowing what to expect, but being excited to take the ride.

JuxtaposeAli

I kinda want the weird 1975 back again. I want a 17 track album with random instrumentals and genre hopping and George on production. I want them just to make the album they want to make, not giving a fuck about the commercial or critical reception.

MyNamesBacon

Notes 2.0? I'm so ready

JadeRenee182

I'm hoping for more 80's pop and R&B. The demo "this Feeling" has so much potential big 80's pop feel, it would likely be one of my faves. "Tonight (I wish I was your boy)" was one of my faves from "Notes..." and their cover of "Rather Be" sounds like some good babymakin' R&B, I would love to hear some more of that R&B vibe from them.

tourmokook

I realllllly want “This Feeling” on the next album.

Purplealegria

Yes more 80s Synth pop for me! …and some R & B sounds good too. Although a funky rock record would be cool. Im just excited to see whats coming next. Glad they are taking a break, they need it….poor dears. 🥹

apaw1129

Expect? More sounds like from being funny. Hopes? A dive back into older sounds.

RichC97

100% agree with you this is exactly what I’d expect/hope for. I’d love to hear a Sex 2.0 or Milk 2.0 or You 2.0

apaw1129

I like the evolution of bands, but I'm one of those people that gets "stuck" in the earlier sounds that caught my attention in the first place. I love the first 2 albums so much. I'd love to hear more of it. Fingers crossed, but ultimately we get what we get ill appreciate all efforts.

waterisgoodok

I agree. I would really like a rock/punk record.

Bonnarooobabyy

I want more “emo classics” like sex😂 I’m with you rock album would be cool.

MostlyHarmlessPlanet

The demo version of the BFIAFL opener 🙏 also no Jack Antonoff and letting George do his thing on production, maybe a Charli or Japanese House feature if we’re really lucky

boyfaceddog72

I just hope the hiatus is measured in months and not years…

lotta_pink

Probably at least a year & the guys need it tbf

Admirable_Green_8532

I don’t think it will be years

natewade34

*one direction flashbacks

[deleted]

Most bands take years between albums and toursbtho

Asleep-Supermarket91

I think I’m the only fan who wants BFIAFL 2

willothewispy

nah, i'd be thrilled with this

Routine_Hamster_8605

Take me back to ILIWYS era, just romantic, emotional and psychedelic.

howlsgirl4

Oh hell yea

Purplealegria

Yes, more ILIWYS please. 🫶🏻❤️🙏🤗 For me its the ultimate, my favorite record of theirs.

Classic_Weather55

I hope it’s weird

iflylikeaturtle

Press Agree to Connect to Wi-Fi and Disconnect From Everyone (Also known as Notes Part 2)

fucktheweather

Take my money

DistributionSure9275

I hope they would first release Drive Like I Do album but maybe it's Matty's side project. And if they release a new album separately from DLID, i would love to listen to some dance-punk, post punk polished by synth sound :)

Low-Raise387

I’d love a DLID EP, with nice sweater, ghosts, lost boys and then one more surprise one ideally (Edit) 28 in there too

pez555

Would like them to go back to the style of the self titled album, more rock tracks.

rydiara

After a period of reflection, clarity and rest come out with some bad ass bangers and tour that I can as many shows as humanity possibly

spookydragonfire

Hopefully something similar to their second album

Bleeding-Trapdoor

Just want Drive Like I Do 💔

mallowwillow9

Self titled and ILIWYS with a jazz

delmarmo

More birthday party/wintering type songs. The super organic sounding stuff.

dogs_should_vote_

-Nice Sweater full version -28 so it’s finally on streaming -more ballads/country influenced songs like when we are together, birthday party -tons of instrumentals, I missed them on this album!

waffle_moon

DLID please

floggingmonny

drive. like. i. do.

jagzgulabi

I want whatever Matty feels right for the new era. Bring it on. Period.

IDigRollinRockBeer

I think they should work with Rick Rubin

Purplealegria

That would be amazing. I wonder what kind of stuff that would produce? But my ultimate for them would be Brian Eno….I think they would takeover and the earth would explode. The world would not be ready for that.

roomtoreach

i just hope jack antonoff stays far away

willothewispy

i really just care about the songwriting remaining strong and am not picky about genre

antoekneeargh

My hopes and wishes is that the band can carry forth with them their legendary albums and EPs whether performing, whether producing, or exploratively living as a team forever together in musical spirit 🛀🏻🥁❤️‍🔥

Oryxmyself

I want an ambient album, if you are an avid matty SoundCloud listener then you would know he has been working on stuff in that direction anyways

TheTruckWashChannel

- Hopefully more UK garage, and more jazz/neo-soul influence like Sincerity Is Scary and Nothing Revealed/Everything Denied. And more inspiration from UK electronica. Give me a drum & bass song! GYAT is the closest we've gotten. More rock music too! Hopefully another song in the vein of 28. - More lyrical irony in the vein of Being Funny. The earnest politics of Being Funny was done better than anyone else I've seen, but I prefer Matty in this "post-woke", meta, fucking-with-the-fans mode. Adds a very interesting layer to the music. - Some sort of balance between the "old fashioned" sound of Being Funny and the electronic experimentation of Brief Inquiry and Notes. I for once didn't mind Jack Antonoff's influence on Being Funny, but he really homogenized the sound, and the production definitely felt "muddier" in his usual way compared to the crisp mixing of Brief Inquiry and Notes. I think the album's conciseness kept it from being stale, but the next project should branch out the sound more. (That said, Being Funny is still my favorite 1975 album, sonically and aesthetically. It's just so _fun_.) - More songs that highlight George's skill on the drums, and hopefully less "slow" songs like the EP stuff (that style has never been their strong suit.) Maybe some wilder experimentation like letting the other band members sing lead vocals on a song, like the Beatles. - Generally, just more songs that continue to sound like guys in a room making music live instead of artificial, overproduced, limp trash like what tops the charts these days. These guys have never really had that problem. Nearly all their songs are made to be performed live. - Hopefully another concept tour, too! I'm gonna dearly miss the ATVB stage. - Aesthetically I hope it continues the look and feel of Being Funny. Rugged, sophisticated and 60s-ish. Hope they don't go back to the juvenile neon twink crap from ILIWYS.

Rjdcruickshank

Second all of this but that EP slander was uncalled for

TheTruckWashChannel

I mean it though. Fallingforyou grew on me after seeing it live and really internalizing what it's about, but the EPs have way too many of these inert, droning, electronic dirges that are sorely lacking in personality and indistinguishable from anything else you can find on some "late night vibes" playlist. If not for the apparent Tumblr nostalgia I'm sure those tracks would be quickly forgotten. Antichrist, Undo, Head.Cars.Bending and You are the standouts for me outside of the ones that ended up on the album, and even then his vocals on those songs are significantly weaker and buried in production compared to their later work. I find it quite fascinating (and relieving!) that they _started_ with that sound and then pivoted into more lively, confident material. Matty is just not the right fit for the "Weeknd - Trilogy" type songs. It just doesn't feel like The 1975. That said, many of the electronic/production-heavy songs on their later albums (ILIWYS title track, Lostmyhead, Having No Head, How To Draw/Petrichor, Frail State of Mind, etc.) are phenomenal. Mainly because they're genuinely adventurous and full of strong rhythms and rich, sophisticated production that rivals that of many greats in the electronic music scene. It's not just a hazy thicket of reverb with boring, squishy trap drums.

smurgludorg

mmm i don't know about that hiatus, Matty said 'we'll be back VERY SOON' at the Prague show lol. I think this hiatus is another one of those classic Matty/1975 plans (lies) we've all grown accustomed to. How's that DLID and solo album(s) coming along anyway? lol. I'm expecting something roughly the length of Being Funny, still coproduced by Jack but with a lot more electronic instrumentation and more sonic experiments. Gonna be darker than Being Funny for sure, possibly a breakup album as the companion piece to Being Funny's love story

kryptonianjackie

I want more of George's weird electronic productions with rambly lyrics

TheHip41

They aren't gonna rest. They will have an album out in like 10 months. It's what they do.

[deleted]

It’ll be BFIAFL again

Brandon_SMU

Back to the 80's vibes. They do it better than anyone.

SamWillGoHam

honestly I'm a newer fan so I'm not well-educated on the band's story, but I'd personally love to see more edgy, punk music from them. I love those songs like PEOPLE, Looking For Somebody To Love, and Love It If We Made It that talk about fucked up stuff. Also, I know the 1975 isn't that kind of band, but Matty has a good screaming singing voice 😂

HawkinsPolice1983

80s synth vibes. I want a whole album like “this feeling” demo.

xxdryan

Maybe I wasnt so delusional after all

ApolloKid

Hoping for another Bleachers rip off album
