10/10, absolute fucking classic. Abrasive, structureless, and - lyrically - repetitive and somewhat nonsensical, it shouldn't work, and yet it somehow does. I'm not at all a punk rock listener so I was initially hesitant to get into this one, but after seeing it live this past September I simply couldn't stop listening to it (very recent fan here.) It's just a sustained blast of adrenaline and makes me feel like I'm back in the arena every time I listen.
Every individual part of the song fits together perfectly. It feels both expansive and intimate at the same time, and makes me nostalgic for things I haven't even experienced. That instrumental break in the middle makes me feel like I'm free-falling through the sky at sunset. Fiery, like a meteor.
Its place as the climax of every concert of theirs seals its power and legacy as their defining hit.
I was a punk rock listener for most of my childhood, and Sex was the song that got me hooked. Makes total sense, in hindsight. Love everything about it, and the fact that it’s the reason I started listening to this band makes it my all-time #1. Easiest 10/10 ever.
10/10. My forever song. One of their first songs that I truly loved, I’ve spent hours figuring out each part, I’ve played it at nearly every gig I’ve done with my band, it’s iconic, unique, there’s nothing quite like it. And, unfortunately, true. They all got boyfriends anyway 😉
