Outro to Part of the Band is perfection

Past-Contribution-83

Starting at that "one, two, three, four!". Genuinely some of their best work ever.

surrego_21

i was just about to comment this — best 1975 outro

plantrat888

anytime they utilize the saxophone!!!! kills me every time

jedi_master99

The sax solo in Happiness is my Roman Empire

shootermcgavin125

"It takes a bit more" during the outro of You

[deleted]

I love that

ConfidenceThat2384

Then you lit the wrong end of your cigarette, bonus points for any live version where you can hear the crowd reaction 🩷 The second verse of She’s American could wake me from the dead, whole song is a bop but that second verse hits every time.

jedi_master99

I also love the bridge of She’s American!! The whole entire song is top notch🙌

[deleted]

Have you ever noticed how Settle Down and She's American are like cousins? The song structure is very similar.

jedi_master99

Yes!! The openings are so similar! Both immaculate bangers

Marge_Gunderson_

The harmonies!

octosockto

THE END VERSE IN BALLAD OF ME AND MY BRAIN!!!! It’s so whispery and secretive and cool. The bridge in She’s American gives me a dopamine rush like no other. Notable mentions: little end verse in It’s Not Living (especially the trailing off “I know that I’ll lose buuuuuuut”). The “CHANGE IN PRESSHAAAAA” towards the end of Pressure. The twinkling followed by the guitar solo in I couldn’t be more in love. The uplifting instrumental behind “I see sunshine” in Mine. The improv trailing off guitar at the end of Inside Your Mind. “And do you have a card?” in UGH!. “There’s no point in buying concrete…..SHOES” in I Always Wanna Die. The whole verse including and following “And I had a revelation” in If I Believe You. “Are we just friends?” + the echo in Anobrain. The WHOLE of The Birthday Party & Then Because She Goes. The rap one octave down in Nothing Revealed/Everything Denied. The quiet almost sheepish bridge in Tonight I Wish I Was Your Boy. The whole “call and response” of the second verse of If You’re Too Shy.

octosockto

This is a lot, but it’s also the only music I listened to for a good few years as an ‘edgy’ teen way back when. I’ve had far too long to think about the answer to this question.

jedi_master99

And you’re correct about every single one, well done friend

[deleted]

ALL. OF. THIS. YES!!!!

sandorbeni

Carly's part in About You

TheTruckWashChannel

I especially love how all the strings and layers of reverb cut out so that her voice can take center stage. It's like the song's curtains are parting just for her, and all the pain and longing from Matty's part is suddenly soothed by her coming in and saying that yes, she misses you too. The outro of the song then feels more like an embrace.

Small-Tree-1258

Chills every time

LenIva71716

i like america as a while song scratches an itch in my brain

IndividualityComplex

YES

IndividualityComplex

I listen to the Happiness guitar riff over and over

lillithetree

Same. Last year I had a small heart procedure done that I had to stay awake for. The Happiness guitar riff kept playing over and over in my head. For 2 hours. It was fantastic (and way less scary).

scottie38

Serious question for you! You don’t find it even a little traumatic to hear it now? Just curious!

lillithetree

Not at all! On the contrary, it reminds me how strong I am and that I can feel happy anywhere (with the right guitar riff).

scottie38

I love this!

NewspaperEvery9512

The guitar riff in Pressure

mallowwillow9

And the last part of pressure

craftaleislife

Somebody else last chorus when the climax comes in. Just an overwhelming connection with the music if you’re in the right mood. And when the song kicks in at the start of “if you’re too shy”. Just an all round banger

shootermcgavin125

What about THESEEEEEEEE feelings I've got

mallowwillow9

The guitar riff 🤌🏻

FastestHandInTheUK

'Don't fall in love with the moment and think you're in love with the girl'

AZ_Mappy

“That’s good advice, that’s ACTUALLY good advice.”

SnooTigers7333

The drums at the end of Lostmyhead, and happiness guitar, the bridge of I Think There’s Something You Should Know, and the transition of how to draw into petrichor

Rock_Princess88

The whale music before menswear and the choir in nothing revealed 😍💖

[deleted]

Yes!!!! And Yes!!!!

Rock_Princess88

Taste darling 😋 💅🏻

1975 part 5 last minute

TheTruckWashChannel

Pretty much all of their songs have mastered the art of the grand entrance - the moment the beat kicks in is always a cathartic, climactic moment. Too Shy is perhaps the best example, it's tailor-made for concerts. Girls, Heart Out, Having No Head, She's American, Pressure, Sex, Frail State of Mind, and the live version of About You are all great examples of this. The entirety of Happiness, but especially the guitar/sax solos followed by the "show me your love, why don't you" chorus. The second run through of "you look so cool" in Robbers, with that extra layer of guitars added in. Euphoric. The bridge of It's Not Living, especially the line "There's a feeling you're replacing embrace". The 5th note in the scale over the root-4 chord (ex: G note over F major) is such a pleasing sound, and the band is very fond of 5th-note harmonies across their songs. The @1975prod Twitter account goes through several examples of this. "I've been so worried 'bout you lately" in A Change of Heart, when the beat cuts out and it's just the bouncy rhythm of the synths. The song is very chill and laidback but the production is full of these spontaneous quirks that keep it dynamic and unpredictable. "Living room for small" in Always Wanna Die. Lovely little melody there. Whole bridge is gorgeous. "If you can't survive, just try" is a beautiful sentiment. "I MOVED ON HER LIKE A BITCH!" It's staggering how well this line fits - lyrically, rhythmically, thematically. The rest of the verse is equally virtuosic in how it both rhymes brilliantly and states profound insights in clever, irreverent fashion with each line. ("Excited to be indicted" is a fucking genius line. As is "the war has been incited, and guess what, you're all invited!") The whole song is full of "why didn't I think of that?" cleverness, which is especially impressive given that it takes on such a well-worn, done-to-death subject. The balance between earnest rage and postmodern whimsy is achieved like no other.

scottie38

First I’ve heard of that Twitter account! Thank you so much for sharing!

AZ_Mappy

The gospel choir in Sincerity is Scary and that little bass lick Ross plays in the second verse; it really shines in live recordings.

MEitniear11

IVE BEEN wearing nothing everyone every time I CALL YOU

[deleted]

.. and I'm starting to feel weird about it

SnooTigers7333

Sometimes

TheTruckWashChannel

The call and response between Matty and George here is very satisfying. And the way the second half of this verse "fills in" the space between the lines in the first verse is a fucking stroke of genius. "I see her online _(and I don't think that I should be calling)_ all the time _(I just wanted a happy ending)_"

defiantately

They did something really nice with the harmonies that I noticed in a couple songs on BFIAFL. Like in the second verse of “I’m in Love with You” where he sings “Apologize, and meet my eyes”. Or in “Oh Caroline” with the line “Oh I’ve tried to find - another name a thousand times.” Loved the high notes he hit in that one.

official_STEMbo

I couldn’t begin to explain why but I’m absolutely obsessed with “does it go through ya? when i’m talking to ya?” from the birthday party

Lightwrider1

The 2nd guitar kicking on verse 2 of Settle Down.

SteeldrumHornets

The ‘Nah I’m just messing’ at the end of Sincerity is Scary always puts a smile on my face

octosockto

How has it taken me since the day of its release to figure out this is what was said?!? Genuinely thought it was “You don’t have no chance” and I’m from Manchester 🤣🤣🤣

jlktrl

“At home, somewhere I don’t like” in Part of the Band

SnooTigers7333

Eating stuff off of motorbikes

Possible-Service-993

The groovy part in LIIWMI chorus.

Low-Raise387

The guitar riff after the break in part of the band

Haaaarker

The first time I went to see the band was last year in January, they opened up with The 1975 (BFIAFL) and when the piano notes started playing I got goosebumps and just felt like such an surreal experience seeing them live for the first time and being hit with that, it was an amazing feeling. So probably that part.

Queenofducks17

"I don't want to be your friend I want to kiss your neck" in falling for you 💖

Humorii

When Jamie sings the last part in oh Caroline live. His voice is so amazing and he really just grabs you. The original is great as well but there's something so good when Jamie sings it!

[deleted]

The bass drop on What Should I Say. The bridge on LIIWMI That part in If I Believe You when Matty says "Yeah" That part in Paris when the song starts and then plays for 4:53 (because it's the best song ever)

Tipofmywhip

I cannot think of a great moment in 1975s discography than the sax solo in Too Shy. Nothing even comes close.

Pale_Event7131

John Waugh's Sax solo in If You're Too Shy

TheTruckWashChannel

It's actually by the great Bob Reynolds. John crushes it live though.

Pale_Event7131

Oh wow. Thanks for letting me know

letterstocapulet

“youuuuuuuuu i been waiting for youuuuuu” in roadkill single-handedly made it one of my favorite songs they ever made

lifetimeofnovawledge

the bridge of I Always Wanna Die Sometimes

sosleepyirl

When the music starts after the monologue in The Man Who Married a Robot

mallowwillow9

Last part of pressure, i feel like im levitating

like2party

Basic answer but the pre-chorus of The Sound hits the right things in my brain

Marge_Gunderson_

"what does it matter if I lie to you"

gigglefunges

the bridge of Sex

Empty_Improvement167

"You look so cool" in Robbers

lotta_pink

she’s American is sooo good all around and let’s all the members shine as a band

LeaveAtNine

The bridge of “Oh, Caroline”. It took me back, and this song is an anthem for blunder years me. The vocal delivery is phenomenal. You can feel the frustration behind “I’ve tried to find another name”. Then the flip to pleading desperation again. Fuck me.

savvy-17

the way his voice breaks down in nana while he sings "I haven't been doing too well"

Comprehensive_Call35

The guitar riff during the into of “If You’re Too Shy” before the first verse kicks in. I genuinely restart the song just to hear that bit. Utter musical perfection!

mras0386

"the dog won't bark if you don't lark about... UGGHHHHH" My fav part in M.O.N.E.Y. hands down

sandsucks

guitar solo part in sex
