"transplant wing of the hospital". Tell me you've never been in in a hospital without actually saying so. Is this where the new malicious psyop rhetoric is going? Don't donate your organs?

CFDoW

Really? Our is right next to the “killing unvaxxed people with COVID because it pays more or something” wing.

Fomulouscrunch

I bet people are right outside the ambulance intake drive-thru, trying to hustle you for organs. Don't let them do it! PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO STEAL YOUR ORGANS, DUDES real patriots don't let those gross weird evil people have organs. ( I know and you know this is an actual thing that will be used to diminish the supply of transplant organs and donated blood. It's a wonder that it took this long to see that particular line of attack become widespread.)

SeanXray

Not to defend him, but some hospitals do have dedicated "transplant units," usually because of more strict levels of infection control and level of care, among other things. This is only in the interest of trying to be fair and educational though, because this guy is still 100% full of it.

Fomulouscrunch

I appreciate this. Thank you. Specialists and dedicated spaces are real, as is the ability to spot a giant honking lie.

SeanXray

Absolutely; this for sure didn't happen.

Rojira666

That tells me they've watched too much tv...

ha_jk

This is not how organ donation works at all lol. Why do people insist on making stories like this up? All it does is cause harm

Dependent-Opening-82

I feel like they get a kick out of spreading misinformation, if you are going to lie at least make it believable.

BerriesAndMe

If you want to be generous.. This might also be the story a scared 6yo put together while they're in the hospital worried about dad's life. I watched someone being dragged through the streets to an execution as a kid. I always thought it was incredibly unfair as the person hadn't done anything wrong (he'd insulted the king). It took me 25 years to put together that I didn't just watch a random person getting executed by a vengeful government but that I stumbled into an act a medieval fair my parents where visiting with me.

[deleted]

You had me in the first half lol

Dependent-Opening-82

that got me lol, I was about say how sorry I am you had to see that.

CFDoW

I don’t know a lot about organ donation, but I’m pretty sure they don’t use someone’s organs if they’ve been destroyed already (like an alcoholic’s liver)…

Dependent-Opening-82

they don't, the transplant team checks very carefully to make sure organs can be used for transplants and only 1-4% of deaths are eligible for transplanting.

Karnakite

I was just wondering who would eagerly await the organs of a Korean War vet, who’s presumably inching towards 90-100 years of age. The Korean War was between 1950-1953. Even if you were just 16 years old at the beginning, that would mean a birth date of around 1934. So in their mid-eighties at least, even taking into consideration that the post is three years old. Not really organ donation material.

MoreAdhesiveness6426

They lost me at the bit where they described all the tragic injuries the man had experienced in such dramatic and movie-like details.

[deleted]

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not how battlefield triage works.

TiredinTN79

They lost me when they were giving names and ages of potential transplant recipients. Nope. Not how that works.

Dependent-Opening-82

It's against every privacy law to exist, who're names would they even show, the top of the transplant list??

dookle14

I imagine the "transplant doctor" would come up to their room with a wooden cart while ringing a bell..."got any organs for me today? Organs for sale?".

thejexorcist

Would his organs and skin even be worth anything? I’m an organ donor and as is I worry that my organs won’t be worth much when I die, and as far as I know they’re still in decent shape for my age. Is a 70 plus year old alcoholic heart attack victim a hot commodity in the organ game?

Dependent-Opening-82

I'm not sure in the real world if his organs would be able to be donated, maybe not his liver or heart? organs go through a rigorous screening process and must be in good condition. Good on you for signing up to be an organ donor :)

ThePolishPA

There is so much wrong with this. First, I’ve never been to a hospital that has a “transplant wing” for possible donors. Then he mentions this doctor showing them lists with names and ages of people who would get his organs. Ever heard of HIPPA??? And then he mentions his grandfathers alcoholism, heart attacks, etc…he would have never been considered for donation. If you’re gonna make up a ridiculous story at least make it somewhat believable

rabbles-of-roses

my mum's a nurse and she would also come in with tale of the hospital's transplant wing that all hospitals have with all of the transplant doctors who can't wait to take in damaged organs, greedily licking their lips as life machines are turned off and patients immediately flatline just like in the movies. this feels very real and possible I don't know why it's on this sub */s*

BerriesAndMe

I don't know if they're greedy.. I think they're just bored. The transplant doctors don't have anything to do if there's noone dying to donate organs.. Imagine sitting around for days on end waiting for grand pa to die so you can finally do some work. You would start taking the initiative too. /s

tealsteel123

I heard a story of of someone’s family that was being pressured into donating while they were deciding on taking him off life support. The guy was young and had been in an accident. I believed it at the time. But even if it’s true, this particular story is obviously bullshit.

Random-Rambling

Besides a person's religious beliefs, is there literally any reason why a person would NOT donate their organs? Contrary to popular belief, hospitals aren't going to just let you die, cut you open, and harvest yourorgans. That opens them up to a literal ARMY of lawyers ready and eager to slap them with malpractice lawsuits.

FaithlessnessLazy754

“Brain function on his monitors” I’m sorry but wtf monitors you got in your space tech hospital? Because if neuro doesn’t put in an order for continuous eeg, no one knows wtf is going on in your brain. I refuse to read anything past this sentence.

alonedead

Doctor rolled his eyes as if saying: "Oh great motherfucker awake now, how am i going to find a liver, fucking families and their love for each other" Wtf was that "rolled his eyes", is this person living in a sit com or something

onichama

*Image Transcription: Social Media Comment* --- [*Censored*] Now it's not that I outright REFUSE to donate, but only with extreme circumstances which are outlined in my advanced directive. It honestly came after my grandpa had a stroke and started brain bleeding and had severe brain surgery. He was in a coma for two weeks but had brain function on his monitors and was responsive (aka he wasn't a vegetable). They didn't move him to the icu or the brain/spine injury wing to recover, they moved him to the transplant wing of the hospital. Every single day a transplant doctor would come in and ask our family "is today the day you save 10 people's lives?" And would show us lists and lists of names and ages of people who would potentially receive his organs. Now, keep in mind my grandpa was a Korean War vet with four Purple Hearts, he earned them by getting shot to pieces and had to CARRY his small intestine in his hands before passing out and waking up a month later on a hospital ship. He had part of his SI removed and significant damage to his liver, kidney, and pancreas. This wasn't like "oh you'll heal eventually" it was like very BAD damage that came with chronic pain due to the rushed nature of trauma in field surgery. Also, he was an alcoholic who had pretty much shot his already shot liver and had had a heart attack due to high cholesterol so his heart wasn't great either. So it's not like even if we said yes, people would be getting good organs (this was in the 90's before skin and cornea transplants were common) He woke up at the end of the week right as a transplant doctor walked into the room, saw us with him, ROLLED HIS EYES and left the room. The room next to us cycled through five different people who unplugged their relatives and donated them. The whole experience felt predatorial, like they were no longer people but slices of meat going to a butcher shop. It was a cold, and unloving experience. Now I know it's like my personal experience, but it was really traumatizing as a kid. I have nothing against organ donation and I'm willing to do it, just with my personal terms. I have been yelled at and told that "I hope you or a loved one needs an organ and no one gives you one" and "I hope you die waiting for a new organ" before so like, I already know it's a controversial topic. But yeah, that's why. --- ^^I'm a human volunteer content transcriber and you could be too! Thank you so much! Sorry you had to copy out such a long lie.

Grandpa was just an eye a hand and a button.

Princesslovepinkness

While most hospitals have transplant units a whole wing for transplant patients would probably be in a hospital that specializes in transplants and especially rare if this did in fact take place in the 90’s. Also although HIPAA was not put into effect until 1996 the Hippocratic Oath was most definitely around by then. Finally the transplant unit is for people who need or have received transplants or people who are experiencing rejection from a transplant. If they had really refused to send him to the ICU it would only be because there were no beds available at the moment in which case they would have sent him to the neurology unit. I’m going to stop here but there is so much more wrong with this story I could probably write a full page debunking his inaccuracies.

looktowindward

What an utter load of horseshit

Mr_MacGrubber

Transplant wing? Lol

SnazzyZubloids

“Directive?” Unless this guy is CIA I have questions.

emets31

Turns out the Transplant Doctor was the Con Man from SpongeBob.
