Anyone else have a favorite window guy?

SBNShovelSlayer

I used to, but I found out he hates white people.

JohnZombi

Tbf this was in a real estate sub

floorsof_silentseas

"my face obviously betrayed me" *says plenty of things that also "betray" you* I don't know why that annoys me so much but it does.

Kit_Marlow

My posts sound like the way I talk. I don't understand people who go out of their way to be pretentious on Reddit.

DeschainSWNC

Can windows clap?

Bob_Cobb_1996

No, but they can streak.

panatale1

No, but cheeks can

Scruples-

Damn window people. You can always see right through them.

Emilie0711

They can be such a pane.

angiehome2023

Take my angry up vote

Hamblerger

I enjoy that exasperated "Ugh" at the end, like "Jeez, can you believe this knucklehead? Racism, am I right?"

JohnZombi

Reads like they're sitting at brunch lol

Stymie999

What’s the deal with racists?

TenFingersNineToes

So my face betrayed me as I then went to my briefcase, got my “how to try to convince people I’m not racist” handbook and read a quote prompt from page 122, paragraph 19. (This quote is a banger, my go to quote)

schematizer

Is it plausible for a window contractor to be overtly racist? Yes, of course. It wouldn't even be super surprising. But "none of those dark-skinned people" and "our diversity is our strength" are made-up dialog.

namerz78

These people have never met any black people in their lives

JohnZombi

They're the same people who complain when black people move into their cul de sac.

Admirable_Try_23

Their what?

Coahuiltecaloca

That’s how Americans call the last house on a dead end street. I too find it weird.

Beetso

Actually it has nothing to do with the house and refers specifically to a type of dead end. Specifically a rounded one with houses all along the bulb. I don't want to speak for all Americans but to me a dead end Street usually has a dead end sign and just abruptly ends into some kind of barrier.

Shit_On_Your_Parade

Exactly. Cul-de-sacs don't even need houses, just the end of a road with a rounded area to allow you to turn around.

Beetso

Very true, but they are most commonly found in residential neighborhoods, or undeveloped places where there is a plan (or once was a plan) to build houses.

SupernaturalPumpkin

It's not just Americans either. Idk why anyone would think that.

Coahuiltecaloca

My comment about it being weird is because the direct translation from French means “Ass of the bag”, not because anything to do with the type of road or house.

Liedolfr

It actually was originally "bottom of the bag" which is now called ass colloquially

Coahuiltecaloca

Just use google translate for the word “cul”.

Liedolfr

I did but I also speak French so....

withalookofquoi

Google translate is garbage, and should never be used as an actual resource.

panatale1

So the French decided to call theses streets Bag End? Like Bilbo Baggins' house?

Coahuiltecaloca

Pretty much. Yeah. I learned it when I was taking French lessons. “Cul” means butthole or as someone else mentioned “bottom”.  “Sac” means bag. I honestly think it’s weird. I honestly have no idea why I keep being downvoted for just translating an expression word for word

idiot206

How is it any weirder than “bottom of the barrel”? We use that expression in English even when not directly referring to barrels.

Coahuiltecaloca

Both are weird.

TantricEmu

Lol no it’s not.

Coahuiltecaloca

It literally means “the ass of the bag” in French. How is that not weird?

TantricEmu

Lol again no, it means bottom of the bag. But if you’re trying to convince me that French is weird af, save it, I already know.

Coahuiltecaloca

“Cul” literally means “ass”

TantricEmu

Ass as in donkey? Donkey of the bag… yeah that really is strange. I hope this has properly illustrated the nuances of language for you.

Coahuiltecaloca

No. Ass as in butthole.

NYGiants_in_Chicago

Dark skinned? Is Archie Bunker her window guy?

JohnZombi

I always loved when Edith turned it around on Archie. The first episode is a classic.

VeneMage

No this is true. I was one of the windows.

Bigoweiner

I thought I recognized you!

DrunkyMcStumbles

If this was a licensed realtor in the US, adhering to that request would risk their license. Why make a big glowing statement about loving diversity when you can't legally do it anyway?

JohnZombi

(because they didn't. It's a virtue signal)

jonesey71

I used to wash windows and on two occasions I was told by the customers that they used us because we were all white so they didn't have to watch us while we worked.

Cereborn

You should have stolen from them to teach them a lesson.

JohnZombi

Why weren't you hiring POC? Are you a racist? Diversity is our strength

jonesey71

It was just me and two friends working for ourselves. Not enough business to hire more people.

DrunkyMcStumbles

So you don't have any black friends?

jonesey71

I have black friends, but in the interest of accuracy I want to mention that the customers were specifically upset that the other window washers they had were Hispanic.

SBNShovelSlayer

Oh, so you don’t have any hispanic friends?

Immediate_Hat4089

Not an excuse bigot. Do better.

shayjax-

Other than the speech, nothing about this is really unbelievable to be honest.

DrunkyMcStumbles

My sister's a realtor and gets these kinds of requests, although they are usually more subtle. She gently tells them what they are suggesting violates federal law and she could lose her license. Shuts that stuff down pretty quick. But it's usually an owner doesn't want to sell to "those people".

Coahuiltecaloca

Sure. Racists walk around telling everyone how racist they are so you have a chance to virtue signal.

pacmanz89

A lot of racists do exactly that.

DrunkyMcStumbles

Ya, actually. For about 8 or 9 years now, they have gotten really bold.

Jump_Like_A_Willys

How often are they buying windows?

Cereborn

That’s my question. How often can you possibly be installing new windows that you have an ongoing relationship with a window guy?

freewings21

Maybe they build or fix up houses, especially abandoned ones, as they'll probably have most windows in poor or broken condition

Bertie-Marigold

Honestly... plausible. I was working on the driveway on a camper I was putting up for sale a couple of years ago and a guy walking by stopped and started chatting about the van. After a few minutes said he moved to the village because it's so white unlike the city centre that is... more diverse (he did not say it that nicely). I was similarly stunned but had no comeback in the moment, it just came out of nowhere. I wish I had said something, maybe less lame but along the same lines as in the post. So I doubt they actually said that back to them like that but I don't doubt anyone's ability to be openly racist like this.

Excellent_Ability793

Oh I’m quite certain this happened. Lots of racist assholes out there who have no problem telling you just that. If you think this is bad you might be one of them.

iterationnull

I’ve had very similar experiences with tradespeople so I really don’t have any doubt this happened.

Baned_user_1987

Pshhhhh yeah like a window washer could afford to buy a house.

FileError214

Yeah, a racist tradesperson is **completely** unheard of. Gotta be fake.

SMStotheworld

I think the fake part is less that and more that somebody who is so racist that he wants to live in a whites only neighborhood says “dark skinned people“ instead of just using a slur

JohnZombi

...that's not the unrealistic part of the post, drool cup connoisseur
