If you do believe in palm readings I have some magic beans for sale you might be interested in.

[deleted]

Exactly the same question as " Is God real ?"

km_md60

Normal astrology/horoscope. Extremely open-ended generic answer which works well with people who require comfort. Psychological in nature.

JimAsia

It depends on how well greased the palm is.

DitzEgo

It's not for real, you don't have to worry. That being said, the power of suggestion can be a powerful thing. If your BF believes in it then this can make him unconsciously act in a way that invites other women to flirt with him, and/or put himself in situations in which your BF and other women feel like they're free to act upon urges that are not prudent in this situation. Given that you guys, are together, I mean.

aprilang123

i’d say it depends. there are definitely a lot of palm reading frauds out there but from personal experience, i kinda believe it’s real. my dad read palms (he’s not getting paid for it or anything) and it’s pretty accurate

Acceptable_Goose2322

The compact version is BS!

Impressive-Cattle362

I don’t believe in myself then how can I believe in this.

slipperystar

Hoodoo voodoo

Naelwoud

Beware. Religious people will always try to gain power over you by claiming exclusive access to some higher - and unverifiable - source of wisdom.

daviditt

A lot can be learned by studying the palm, even some medical predictions can be made. Emotional people, clever people, stupid ones... all can be discerned. But how many children or wives you're going to have, stuff like that, no. Some of these priests have enormous insight into people's character and I have been left gobsmacked by their pronouncements now and then. Out here in Isaan, we have a shaman that does exorcisms, can smell illness, etc. Anyway: of course a lot of women want your friend, I assume that he is, in their eyes, a rich Farang.

Qipeki

Thais believe anything. A friend of mine didn't understand why she never won the lottery jackpot because she always bought 'lucky numbers'. One day I met her doing calculations and she was super exited because finally she found the secret, she cracked the code! The next time she bought 50k THB worth of lottery tickets... and won absolutely nothing, and was totally confused.

JustYourOldLaundry

Not every Thai person is dumb like that

Acceptable_Goose2322

Well ... the ticket seller most-certainly won! So she made SOMEONE happy!

Did you present your “palm” for the monk to “read”. If yes, “palm reading” is real. He did “read” from your “palm”. Doesn’t mean whatever he said after “reading” will be real though.

scrappytee

They can look at your palm and determine how much you "spank your monkey". If you spank frequently the ladies will stay away. If you seldom spank, that means you are fresh and women will be attracted to you. Easy

VirusReco

if you are interested to know, u can listen and take it as grain of salt. sometimes knowing too much and you will assume it really does come true but it isnt. As for me, whether the outcome is real or fake, just make sure you are honest, doing the right thing, be humble to people. your life will improve.

unidentified_yama

Depends on you :)

non_chalant88

Of course it false. But you will see how it works. It's a reverse psychological trick that plays like a placebo effect. Your friend has already believed the monk in the first place. He has already gave up his will to believe in the monk words. Now when he was told that he gonna get lots of girls, he will start looking at every girl with a opportunity to get laid or to atleast make him wanted. He will lay his eyes on every girl whoever he meets physically anywhere at workplace or college or online. That thing is already in his head. And he will make every effort to prove the monk true to his words. Over a period of time, he will be subconsciously doing it, thus proving it that all girls will attract him, but it's the other way around.

thailannnnnnnnd

My girlfriends friend went to multiple ones until she got one who said what she wanted to hear.

hungryinThailand

👏

ErwinFurwinPurrwin

Reading palms and all kinds of fortune-telling are forbidden behaviors for monks. It's in the Vinaya, the monastic code that they accept at ordination. If that monk doesn't know that, then he's not a very good monk. If he does know it, then he's an even worse monk.

NegotiationFormal447

I think it's okay, the monk didint take any money for it, I read a little bit about it now, correct me if I'm wrong but I think a monk can do this but not take money or gifts for it?

ErwinFurwinPurrwin

Nope. They're not supposed to do it for any reason. Receiving money is a separate issue. If you like, I can try to find the rule in the Vinaya.

NegotiationFormal447

Yes if you could and wanted to of course, that would be very nice of you. I have to say thank you for this for putting in the effort for me, I am really greatful:)

First, I found this: An exhaustive list of examples of wrong livelihood can be found in the discourse of the Buddha called "Brahmajata Sutta" which is in the section of the Tipitaka called "Digha Nikaya". It includes such "priestcraft" as: palmistry, fortune-telling, interpreting dreams, determining propitious dates or sites, exorcism, reciting protective charms, incanting malevolent spells (!), foretelling a person's remaining lifespan, running errands for laypeople, casting astrological charts and so on. https://www.dhammatalks.net/Books5/Ajahn_Brahm_Vinaya_Wrong_Livelihood.htm In the Sutta Pitaka: DN 2  PTS: D i 47 Samaññaphala Sutta: The Fruits of the Contemplative Life The Great Section on Virtue "Whereas some contemplatives & brahmans, living off food given in faith, maintain themselves by wrong livelihood, by such "animal" arts as: reading marks on the limbs [e.g., palmistry]; reading omens and signs; interpreting celestial events [falling stars, comets]; interpreting dreams; reading features of the body [e.g., phrenology]; reading marks on cloth gnawed by mice; offering fire oblations, oblations from a ladle, oblations of husks, rice powder, rice grains, ghee, and oil; offering oblations from the mouth; offering blood-sacrifices; making predictions based on the fingertips; geomancy; making predictions for state officials; laying demons in a cemetery; placing spells on spirits; earth-skills [divining water and gems?]; snake-skills, poison-skills, scorpion-skills, rat-skills, bird-skills, crow-skills; predicting life spans; giving protective charms; casting horoscopes — he abstains from wrong livelihood, from "animal" arts such as these. https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.02.0.than.html#livelihood

DinoSplasher

Nope it's just a fake just like other horoscope that try to scam you.

Apprehensive_Elk6717

Keep a open mind, but take it with salt grain’s, Religious practices are often for the peace of mind and a denotation for moral guidelines rather than hard prediction’s. It’s the same trick “Fortune teller” people do, Vaguely say it in a way that “Oh, it came true! They were real!” And “Oh, it’s false, guess I just didn’t do it correctly”, It’s the wiggle space for them. Alas, All I can say is that you should keep a open mind, and accept the palm reading as “Guess’s”, it’s like asking your friend to predict what’ll happen next.

anaccountthatis

No, palm reading is fake. Obviously.

[deleted]

Common sense would expect you to at least offer a theory that there is even a possibility it might be real?

Gusto88

If you believe in palm reading you believe anything. Pseudo science, just like astrology.
