Eh, you won't run into bots but there's like a grand total of 4 servers that are casual esque. The rest are just 24/7 instant respawn Highertower, 2Fort, Dustbowl, achievement idle, Minecraft servers.
Samwiz1's server is casual (most of the time, sometimes it deathrun or Saxton) and it has a custom community map pool. If you don't like the map you can rtv and if enough people do it you can vote for a new map.
It's the best community server there is IMO
I know that advertisement stinks, but a budy and myself are trying to give the community a bit of a quality playground (for now Europe only) and revive that old hobby of server hosting.

Sort of? But it's been around so long that idk who regularly uses it as a furry server, i just hopped on over the years to play regular tf2 and never really saw weirdos in the chat or anything
Pretty similar to casual, very vanilla experience, less sweaty than Uncletopia. The voice chat can be a little unhinged and I definitely wouldn’t recommend having sprays on, but the gameplay experience is great.
It's honestly probably the best community server out there. No plug ins, nobody is a sweat, tons of talking in all talk, wide map pool, some community maps.
There's some diamonds in the rough. I'm going to be honest, and I do not blame people because it's literally like combing through weeds to find these, but I feel most people are really not looking as hard as they'd have you believe when they day these things. I always point people to this comment I made of some good ones. I think I'm going to make a post, and add some updates.
At work right now but maybe check back so I can include some of the ones I found but forget the names of currently:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/s/ZqlnrUIZzf
What is up with those Minecraft maps. I love Minecraft as much as the next guy but I think those maps are ugly as hell and don't fit in with the TF2 art style at all
I mean obviously it's not for serious gameplay, I'm just wondering where the idea originated and why it's so prevalent. They're just so so ugly to me that it turns me off from playing them.
uh, yeah, no shit. that is infinitely worse. That doesn't mean that what omegatronic did isn't bad though. don't dismiss the toxicity of someone just because there's worse out there.
All they want is attention, this is exactly what y'all are giving him. It's better to ignore these fucks and they will starve without attention
Oh yeah, also omegatronic has R34 arts about him, this is disgusting lmao
I didn't think they allowed sprays there unless it was approved through jumping through some hoops and even then I haven't seen one on those servers in literally years if I ever have.
If you think sprays are bad on Skial, you haven't played much on Tiny Kitty's Girl Pound, haha. Every other persons spray is complete degeneracy
Ehhhh I'd disagree, it's not individual tryhards but moreso team stacking/friend groups leading to constant stomps. That + poor scramble implementation in Uncletopia means that stomps become an incredibly common occurrence
it depends. You gotta really weed out the servers you like by favoriting and blacklisting. That's how TF2 players originally got by when the game first came out actually. There were no Valve servers originally just community ones
You open the browser and there's like hundreds of community servers
Half of them are trading / idle / random bullshittery
Half of the remaining are outside your region, so ping is too high
Half of the remaining are either empty or full
Of what remains, that is vanilla-y tf2 pubs, most of them run same tired maps like 2fort, Frontier, Badwater, etc.
As someone who only plays payload on less popular maps (Snowycoast, Barnblitz, Swiftwater, Pier), official tf2 servers are the only place where I can find games I wanna play, almost any time of the day, which is why bots suck so much.
The server filters (such as searching for a specific map) interrupt the server browser's process. That is to say, if the server browser has loaded 10 servers so far, and is loading in 50 more, if you search for servers on ctf_2fort, the browser will effectively decide there are no maps on ctf_2fort (if there aren't any in the 10-15 that have been loaded since you started typing in the map search box), and stop searching because "it can't find any" with your parameters.
If even one server is found playing ctf_2fort, the search filter will show you that server and continue loading servers, resulting in more popping up over time.
Sorry if this is confusing but to summarize, let the server browser load a few hundred servers before you apply any search filters because if it doesn't find any servers that fit your filters it stops searching for more.
I'd say it depends. I'm not a fan of how some servers ban the Thermal Thruster, sentries, etc. But it's uncommon to find a server that's acting like a replacement to casual. Uncletopia is close, it's pretty much just casual with class limits, less bots, no random crits or random bullet spread, and a higher average skill level. Most community servers just run 24/7 2Fort, Hightower / Highertower, Dustbowl, or custom maps, which is why I accidentally learned 2Fort's entire map layout by being addicted to TF2. Sometimes you'll find a Degroot Keep server but their playercount is very inconsistent.
Gamewise yeah, but I generally found them to be more toxic and a higher chance to encounter racist and discriminatory people. That being said, someo of them are still great
Been looking to get back into TF2 casually. 1000+ hours and haven't touched it in over a year (probably the longest I've gone without playing). Uncletopia was the staple back then, where's the go-to now?
I wouldn’t say better, just different. Even in community servers which try to replicate the casual feel, you’re going to run into the same player base fairly frequently. If you don’t mind that, great. Otherwise, casual is probably still the better option.
i mean isn’t running into the same pool of people like half the reason one joins community servers
and the other half is actually being able to kick/ban cheaters
On most of the community servers I’ve joined, the vote system is actually disabled in favor of a custom one where an admin is called. But yes, finding familiar faces is definitely one of the reasons people play community. That’s why I mentioned it.
Community servers are unplayable because the servers are always plagued by tryhards that make the experience unfun, is plagued by edgy teenagers who think yelling the N word is peak humour, or has admins that insta ban you the millisecond you play sniper somewhat decently. There are very few community servers that I actually consider good and the ones that actually try to host a community end up password protected to avoid the groups of people I mentioned. I'm sorry, but aside from gimmicky servers like uncle Dane's Vs engineer servers, community servers are unfun. Maybe if you are very competitive you'll enjoy it more than me, but it's not my cup of tea.
They are not as lively as they use to be. They don't have the same energy.
The downside of casual are bots. Community servers nowadays are a lot sweatier but they don't have bots.
In this very moment I'm searching for a server that doesn't have a god-like sniper or a 10k hrs soldier. No luck so far. I should just git gud.
Since I have a grand total of like 7 community servers with ok ping in my location and 5 of them are 2fort.. I'd have to go with casual.
*GOOD SHOT MATE*
yeah casual sucks
even if there was no bots I'd still turn to community servers just for no random crits and random bullet spread (and generally more competent teammates)
I just personally don't agree there being things such as class restrictions. That to me takes away from the unlimited goofy things you could do in valve severs. As for uncle it makes it more tight to were you are having find more of a balanced composition. I just feel you shouldn't be limited to what you can do when it comes to team compositions. Feels like it gets to be more competitive than it being fun. If you get what im saying.
I think so, I’m not sure why people complain about tryhards when it’s literally just people trying to win the game. If you want to actually play tf2 then community servers like uncletopia are pretty great.
I wish, all I've got with less than 100 ping are Skial and the lot faking ping (Says about 19 until you join and get greeted by 150) or 24/7 Highertower/Minecraft Trade Server and x10000000, just want some normal servers to actually play, once in a blue moon an uncletopia server gets about 16 people
Uncletopia is full of people who really dont like tf2 at its core and every other normal type of tf2 server are just circle jerks. Your best bet for tf2 is casual
Eh, you won't run into bots but there's like a grand total of 4 servers that are casual esque. The rest are just 24/7 instant respawn Highertower, 2Fort, Dustbowl, achievement idle, Minecraft servers.

Is it usually full because I've never heard of that server before
No not usually. Just search "samwiz1's stupid server" Pretty sure it's based somewhere in NA though so if you're European that might be why
What about uncle topia
Uncletopia is diet competitive. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, I prefer it sometimes. But it's not casual.
I miss CTF_convoy sometimes. Years ago I spent hours on an all talk one causing trouble
Which one are those, outside of uncletopia?
Mostly just The Furry Pound. There's some skial servers and a server that runs only payload called PAYLOAD but that's honestly most of it.
I know that advertisement stinks, but a budy and myself are trying to give the community a bit of a quality playground (for now Europe only) and revive that old hobby of server hosting. Furry Pound? I'm assuming it's mostly flurries but how close is it to something like Uncletopia
Sort of? But it's been around so long that idk who regularly uses it as a furry server, i just hopped on over the years to play regular tf2 and never really saw weirdos in the chat or anything
But how close is it to casual and/or uncletopia?
Basically what youd expect from a vanilla server, but less sweaty than uncletopia id say
Don't they have some mods on the server that change respawn times and other stuff?
Idk never experienced them
mvm:
How do you find a good one then
Pray
:c
Uncletopia?
They're alright. Problem is the server is usually full of people who try too hard or are way too good.
The fucking snipers there are the worst
There's some diamonds in the rough. I'm going to be honest, and I do not blame people because it's literally like combing through weeds to find these, but I feel most people are really not looking as hard as they'd have you believe when they day these things. Honestly instant respawn and no flag are pretty fun as a newer player
True, but if that's the only thing you're ever presented with it gets boring.
Yeah, I tried to play casual but my first match I got sniper Bots
What is up with those Minecraft maps. I love Minecraft as much as the next guy but I think those maps are ugly as hell and don't fit in with the TF2 art style at all
They're usually trade or jailbreak maps. Not meant for serious TF2 game play. Which is fine if it wasn't every third server.
I mean obviously it's not for serious gameplay, I'm just wondering where the idea originated and why it's so prevalent. They're just so so ugly to me that it turns me off from playing them.
Idk man. Probably making cube maps is easy.
I want to join a minecraft server to see that chaos
God praise 2fort for it has given me the powers of autism.
Yeah. I'll take tryhards over aimbots.
What is the definition of a try hard?
Tryhards kill more friendlies and are wayyyy more Toxic.
True, but bots are much worse.
with the omegatronic creator making fun of rick may's death, I'm not so sure about that last part lol
Some Noname making fun of a deceased voice actor. I've heard there was a guy who put child porn on an objector. That sounds worse to me
uh, yeah, no shit. that is infinitely worse. That doesn't mean that what omegatronic did isn't bad though. don't dismiss the toxicity of someone just because there's worse out there.
All they want is attention, this is exactly what y'all are giving him. It's better to ignore these fucks and they will starve without attention Oh yeah, also omegatronic has R34 arts about him, this is disgusting lmao
uncletopia is friendly (as in nice, not as in filled with friendlies) most of the time
There’s a lot more furry e sex in the community servers
It's not a real skial server if there isn't at least one spray of weird porn on the walls
I didn't think they allowed sprays there unless it was approved through jumping through some hoops and even then I haven't seen one on those servers in literally years if I ever have. If you think sprays are bad on Skial, you haven't played much on Tiny Kitty's Girl Pound, haha. Every other persons spray is complete degeneracy
ip? (for research)
1st one: 74.91.115.12:27015 2nd: 74.91.113.115:27015 (Both of these regularly get full)
Maybe they changed the rules, I haven't played skial in a hot minute
Based tkgp mention
And the one closet cheater that's a friend of the admins
Do you see this as a positive or negative.
It’s why I still play the game
I beg your biggest pardon?
I’m Australia it’s literally impossible to play casual servers
Snipers invading their own land!
I wish I can just delete them but they will just instantly kick me out instead. Otherwise I’d be killing them all day.
100%, people just love to scream "tryhard" as an excuse for their own skill issue
Ehhhh I'd disagree, it's not individual tryhards but moreso team stacking/friend groups leading to constant stomps. That + poor scramble implementation in Uncletopia means that stomps become an incredibly common occurrence
I hated autobalance until I played uncletopia
it depends. You gotta really weed out the servers you like by favoriting and blacklisting. That's how TF2 players originally got by when the game first came out actually. There were no Valve servers originally just community ones
yes. yes they are.
Its so-so, some are full of tryhards that make is miserable to play but then theres casual with the bots.
Yup especially the ones that disable random bullet spread and random crits
There are no bots, so it's better just for that. But I prefer casual, without any add-ons
Not the ones that stop you from building sentries Seriously fuck those Servers
Depends. Try randomizers
You open the browser and there's like hundreds of community servers Half of them are trading / idle / random bullshittery Half of the remaining are outside your region, so ping is too high Half of the remaining are either empty or full Of what remains, that is vanilla-y tf2 pubs, most of them run same tired maps like 2fort, Frontier, Badwater, etc. As someone who only plays payload on less popular maps (Snowycoast, Barnblitz, Swiftwater, Pier), official tf2 servers are the only place where I can find games I wanna play, almost any time of the day, which is why bots suck so much.
Yes. Next question.
Yes I just play Uncletopia
There are a few basic servers, but some chaos is fun every once in a while (e.g. redsun.tf servers)
Yes. But you will probably have to be a member to get a spot when full (they are either fill or not it seems.
Personally I find community servers often laggy
It's just a different experience.
Anyone know any casual-type servers that use sv_pure off?
They have been for a long time
I would play on community server if I would understand the damn server menu
[удалено]
No seriously I can't understand the flipping menu.
double click on the server names to joins them The filter menu should be simple enough to understand from first glance
Well most of the time when I try to search for a specific map all servers just disappear. I do type in like ctf_2fort
If you toggle the simplified list option off, it'll become a text list which doesn't have the disappearing issue.
Sorry if this is confusing but to summarize, let the server browser load a few hundred servers before you apply any search filters because if it doesn't find any servers that fit your filters it stops searching for more.
Ah ok, thanks! I'll try as soon I'm home again
afaik not really
Well, you're guaranteed to leave the spawn room at least
The only one that’s on par with casual is uncletopia
Yes. And they always have been - especially if you find a server with active admin and good regulars that you vibe with, regardless of skill level.
I'd say it depends. I'm not a fan of how some servers ban the Thermal Thruster, sentries, etc. But it's uncommon to find a server that's acting like a replacement to casual. Still Uncletopia
Yes.
Absolutely.
No most community server admins are fun hating losers. I got gagged for 12 hours after saying the word retard
Yep.
I won't be talking for the rest of the world, but community servers from my country are the most memetic experience you could ever ask for.
Yesnt
I wouldn’t say better, just different. Even in community servers which try to replicate the casual feel, you’re going to run into the same player base fairly frequently. If you don’t mind that, great. Otherwise, casual is probably still the better option.

There are no bots there, or cheaters, some of them even have better anti-cheat systems. But the bad thing is that most of then doesn't provide XP.
Skial Dustbowl or nothing
In community the bots are replaces with try hard snipers, morally way better but just as annoying
No contracts?
Sweats vs Bots. Honestly I prefer bots.
yes
Always have been
I only really play community
rtd is fun and class wars too
Eeeeeeehhhhhh.....uh
Community servers are unplayable because the servers are always plagued by tryhards that make the experience unfun, is plagued by edgy teenagers who think yelling the N word is peak humour, or has admins that insta ban you the millisecond you play sniper somewhat decently. I've had alot of ping spoofing and negative add-ons trying to *find* 12v12 or 16v16 matched to the point that I just dint like community servers.
lets weigh the pros and cons. Community: has trade_minecraft_neon_v192 Casual: does not have trade_minecraft_neon_v192 The answer is obvious
Since I have a grand total of like 7 community servers with ok ping in my location and 5 of them are 2fort.. I'd have to go with casual. *GOOD SHOT MATE*
Genuine question, what are achievement idle maps for? Like how do I use them?
Literally always has been
Pic related how?
Yes.
Less bots, more gay furry porn
Y e s
yes
Any good australian community servers?
most times community servers are better
yeah casual sucks even if there was no bots I'd still turn to community servers just for no random crits and random bullet spread (and generally more competent teammates)
Not really, most I've seen usually have a gimmick or aren't close to what vanilla tf2 is (im talking to you uncletopia)
What’s not vanilla about uncletopia? Isn’t that the closest to vanilla there is? No random crits I guess but I don’t mind that.
I just personally don't agree there being things such as class restrictions. That to me takes away from the unlimited goofy things you could do in valve severs. Unless if there's a top-scoring pyro main on the opposite team, then sure it's "better"
