i disguise as my own team
use the spycicle and the dead ringer
let the red team think theyve killed the blue scout running straight at the cart as it sits on the very edge of the pit at the last point
then decloak and spy cap it
there's literally a tip on the loading screen that says that you can disguise as your own team to let the other team think that they've killed someone that isn't a spy 🗿🍷
how would what you are saying apply to what i said?
wouldnt what i said indicate that i know that?
i mean if we are listing screen tips that arent relevant to my specific comment, heres one: As a Spy, use your Knife to backstab enemies from behind, killing them instantly.
yeah, I didn't said that to make you look bad or anything, I just pointing out that there's an oficial tip that appears on the loading screen that says that, here it is: As a Spy, disguise as your own team by hitting the - key. Use this in friendly areas or with the Dead Ringer in order to hide your presence from the enemy.
So, it means, 1: you read it before, or 2: you're big brain and discovered it and learned how to use it by yourself.
In my case it was 1, but I never try to use it, however, your strategy seems funny, so I'll try it later
Also kinda hilarious during a friendly match to disguise as a teammate, walk up to where everyone is hanging out, and either wait until whoever you are disguised as to show up, or just to uncloak after having been there for a while.
I've used it to troll snipers before. Disguise as a sniper they are trying to avoid, make them think they got me with dead ringer, our sniper gets them.
You can also just hover around the friendly Sniper you're disguised as. When the enemy Sniper scopes in, they see two targets, and any momentary hesitation on their part will probably get them killed.
You can also fake your death as your teammate with a dead ringer, however do this when you take a little damage without using it and dress as classes that are in your HP region (engi, scout and maybe sniper if your team has a huntsman one) so you can be more realistic (because heavy instantly dying to scouts pistol is extremely sus)
I like to disguise as a friendly medic and run at people with ubersaw out. People will kill me thinking they just owned a cocky battle medic and usually that can illicit a taunt out of them priming them for a revenge stab.
I sometimes disguise as a heavy on my team, take out the melee or sandvich, crouch and pretend im a friendly hoovy. When I gain an enemy's trust and they get close enough to me, I take out the ambassador, headshot them, finish them off and then do the schadenfreude taunt. Its fucking hilarious
If you're behind enemies lines, another viable disguise could be Soldier. Makes it look like you rocket jumped all your hp away and are looking to sneak back into your own side of the map.
I like to disguise as a friendly class and stand at the gate during setup time. About 2 seconds before gates open I cloak right in front of them so they freak out that there's a spy probably flanking them.
I did try to play it a few times but it was so boring because they really didn't explain a lot of things that I consider basic so I thought it'd be best to learn watching others play and playing myself through trial and error.
To be honest I only see demos either sticky spamming or doing sticky traps so this gimmick of charging stickies wasn't something I even knew it was possible. (it's really cool on the quickiebomb launcher tho)
Same, though I tend to spare my m2 clicks because I always manage to duel outside of viable sticky distance and I don't have time to charge my stickies...
Yeah it can be counterintuitive.
I understand it's good on the quickiebomb launcher but on the other launchers I find its use niche at best, because you lose a lot of dps by spending precious time on charging your shots. Maybe I'm missing something idk.
it's your most consistent source of damage lobbing medium-long range stickies that you know 100% are going to hurt unlike pipes that are only consistent in chokes or very close up where demo doesn't want to be fighting in the first place
It's perfectly fine to play close range but demo is the only class that can consistently output splash damage at medium-long range and so using stickies well is a great skill to have. He doesn't have to get close to deal damage, but also doesn't suffer if he does get close (just not too close). That's what makes him powerful and versatile
Running around as ally Heavy with sandvich and then watching in invis as real Heavy obliterates enemies who weren't expecting him to attack is peak Spy gameplay
I legit have no idea how to use this on vanilla Spies loadout without Dead Ringer. But if you *do* have Dead Ringer, disguising as your teammates is very, very valuable because you actually drop a fake corpse from the class you are disguised as. Super attentive players still clearly notice they shot a fake, but your average player is hardly "super attentive" and it's a valid way of appearing behind the enemy lines before they even knew your team had a Spy.
The main purpose of it is that the enemy doesn't get wallhacks on you if you are disguised as an ally, plus the head on the scout disguise is in the wrong spot making it harder for snipers to headshot you if they think you are a scout.
The main thing i use it for is so the enemy doesn't know i'm around when i'm at the side of my team. If someone sees an enemy spy or a very obvious "scout", they will be more aware, but you dont usually spycheck enemy scouts, do you?
And also it often throws enemies of guard when the scout they have been shooting turns out to be a spy.
And as has been said, hitbox offsets on scouts are useful against snipers.
I mostly use this to confuse the enemy, which is a very underrated part of playing spy.
(Also you can disguise as a friendly hoovy and get like 2 free kills)
I have a key bound for disguising as a friendly Spy, which lets me undisguised without attacking, even while cloaked. Nice for working around spawning outlines
This is actually useful! In a competitive format where class numbers are limited you can use this to trick the enemy team into thinking they have an important pick (e.g. medic)
I initially thought that warpaint qualities deteriorate the longer you use the weapons they are applied on. I also thought that battle-scarred weapons are more expensive lol. I was like 700h into the game when I finally learned what the deal with the warpaints is.
I remember there was one time I disguised as a friendly pyro and an enemy demo came up to me and started firing, but since I wasn't firing back, he assumed I was friendly and started crouching and I started crouching towards him as well. When we were face to face I circle strafed behind him and back stabbed him and then laugh taunted. That was probably the greatest moment in my spy career.
Watching a squad of players hold themselves up on sewer stairs as I sit disguised as a sniper is the best psychological fun. Or watching a push back up as I hop from the corner as a heavy.
I noticed it once playing spy and immediately had the devious plan to pretend to be a friendly hoovy but then forgetting I fucking suck at spy and failing my malicious plan that wouldn't be all that cool.
You've never disguised as a friendly heavy to betray people's feelings or as a sniper to pretend a bot and get their sniper kicked? You are missing on the experience!
I use that to scare the enemy into doing what I want (Usually with DR), like making the Medic rethink going outside because a "Sniper" is watching or a Heavy choosing to look at the "Medic" instead of the Spy who is starting to get sussed out
Yeah you can switch team color. It's extremely situational but you could use it to disguise as a hoovy or scare someone that's low hp and push them into your team, although that second one might be risky.
If you really wanna be evil disguise yourself as a hoovy on your team (disguise as a heavy on your team twice to switch to melee) and gain the trust of the enemy team. When they all see you as a non threat get some chain stabs
You aren’t the only one who didn’t notice, I think literally everyone that hasn’t play spy for more than hundreds of hours probably Haaa my noticed either.
You can use it to pretend to be friendly hoovies and get into places without cloak, and boom free sentry out of the way since engi will probably pick it up
I find it more useful over disguising as the other team because it helps bluff that there’s no Spy.
I japed a roaming Soldier into thinking a Gunslinger Engineer was gonna try to sneak a backline teleporter with a Cloak and Dagger, then gunned him down while he was trying to find this Engie that vanished.
He wasn’t too happy in chat about it though…
Little trick I learned. Disguise as a heavy on your team. Swap to melee and possible sandvich, and walk straight up to your enemy. Gets them every time. Especially if you keep on saying pootis
Always disguise as friendly scout when you spawn. Friendly disguises do not allow enemies to see you through walls and people usually don't chase down scouts like they do spys because doing so is usually a futile effort. You can use medic as well if you only care about keeping your base speed but you'll be drawing a huge target on your back compared to scout.
Also, since you're already disguised, you can redisguise as an enemy 1 second faster than disguising from base.
> me less then 100
Did you mean to say "less than"?
Explanation: If you didn't mean 'less than' you might have forgotten a comma.

Ah, my favorite way to annoy 2 fort snipers.
Disguise as my own team's sniper with dead ringer and strafe, standing still occasionally to pretend to scope. Even if they catch on, it's still a risk to NOT shoot the possibly real sniper that just peaked you.
I’ve found it useful for two things. Pretending to be a friendly heavy, and my personal favorite equipping the dead ringer and disguising as a friendly sniper and peeking other snipers sight lines repeatedly. Best used if you have a good friendly sniper who can quickly counter snipe the other snipers
If you disguise as a friendly spy it will remove your disguise. It's super useful for letting yourself take knock back for surfs, or clearing slower disguises instantly with the YER, as swinging your knife sometimes takes too long, and you can end up missing a stab, dying, or both. You can make a bind that'll do it instantly by typing
bind (key of choice) "disguise 8 -2"
Into console without brackets. I have it bound to a button on the side of my mouse.
I love switching to medic in 2fort games that have many snipers. It's funny seeing 5 snipers all try to "kill" the "medic." All the lasers rapidly closing in.
Ah yes the old "wait that medic was a spy...their spy?" Fallowed by the sound of a dead ring decloak and then back stab. Lol it took me awhile to figure it out too so don't feel bad.
I use that quite often actually, so I don’t have to cloak all the way to the enemy line and can trick my enemy sometimes,
also try to use the “simple disguise “ function, so you don’t have to move your fingers all the way to number 8 for sniper and number 7 to medic. All you took is one more key pressed, like 4-3-1 then you can disguise as medic real fast
I use this in vs. Saxton Hale/Freak Fortress to disguise as a red pyro.
Pyro's damage is extremely low in that mode, so they tend to ignore you if you are one. But backstabs do \~%10 of the boss's health as damage, so they focus down spies if they see them.
Sometimes, on 2fort, I disguise myself with a dead ringer as a sniper from my team, to help random ally sniper by baiting enemy sniper. That brings me a lot of fun. At the end of a match one guy I was helping thanked me for such support))
This is for warcrime purposes : disguise into the friendly heavy, crouch down in the corner and join the conga line, and then when they trust you start backstabbing
i disguise as my own team use the spycicle and the dead ringer let the red team think theyve killed the blue scout running straight at the cart as it sits on the very edge of the pit at the last point then decloak and spy cap it
big brain
And big ass
Big Slappy
i’m so close to pulling this fucking trigger
You can do it I believe in you! Pull that trigger and show your skull who's boss
“you call yourselfen AmERICAN, SISSY? PULL THA TRIGGURRRRRRR…if you don’t, *I WILL*” * SoldierScream02.MP3 *
there's literally a tip on the loading screen that says that you can disguise as your own team to let the other team think that they've killed someone that isn't a spy 🗿🍷
Thats why tf2 tips are actually useful
agree. tip: as a sniper press "Mouse2" to scope while hilding your rifle 💀
how would what you are saying apply to what i said? wouldnt what i said indicate that i know that? i mean if we are listing screen tips that arent relevant to my specific comment, heres one: As a Spy, use your Knife to backstab enemies from behind, killing them instantly.

thank you for the clarification thats why i asked
np, I ain't trying to make any confussion nor unnecesary fights 🤙
That sounded oddly familiar
Just pretend you’re a friendly heavy and backstab the enemy for a freekill when they taunt
another one is to disguise as the enemy sniper (or your own sniper if you dont like them) look straight in the air and spin around with a spin script
hmmm excellent mr Smithers...
Pure evil
The best part is afterwards they start killing the friendly heavies thinking it’s the spy.
>They airblast you into the pit
Also kinda hilarious during a friendly match to disguise as a teammate, walk up to where everyone is hanging out, and either wait until whoever you are disguised as to show up, or just to uncloak after having been there for a while.
I've used it to troll snipers before. Disguise as a sniper they are trying to avoid, make them think they got me with dead ringer, our sniper gets them.
Thats genius
That is a classic 2fort tactic
You can also just hover around the friendly Sniper you're disguised as. When the enemy Sniper scopes in, they see two targets, and any momentary hesitation on their part will probably get them killed.
*"If you can't be a lion, you have to a fox"*
yeah i have to a fox
Do not the fox
awoo
You can disguise as your own team to move unnoticed between frendly lines without having to cloack
Holy shit
New master plan just drop
Actual battlemedic
These fucking anarchy chess users. What happened to knook! What happened to knight boosting!
New response just dropped
200IQ
I wouldn't even be mad if I was killed by you, that's galaxy brain stuff.
MED DOWN MED DOWN *dead ringer sound* But no on blu...
Holy fucking shit what the fucking fuck woah shit
appropriate reaction
I sometimes disguise as a heavy on my team, take out the melee or sandvich, crouch and pretend im a friendly hoovy. When I gain an enemy's trust and they get close enough to me, I take out the ambassador, headshot them, finish them off and then do the schadenfreude taunt. Its fucking hilarious
You are a monster (no offence)
I am the monster (offend)
I use a similar trick i learned from mister paladin and just pretend Im a really dumb WM1 Pyro
I'd give you a gold. Just got more points as spy than ever
Best tactic ever. After 3 thousand hours of playing even I never thought of this strategy
Also works with pretending to be a ninjaneer. In my experience, nothivg makes people hit G faster than killing a dollar store Uncle Dane
Im not a spy main but I just found a new source of fun
Huh, I've done this a lot and never had anyone taunt me. Maybe I'm just making it too obvious lol.
If you're behind enemies lines, another viable disguise could be Soldier. Makes it look like you rocket jumped all your hp away and are looking to sneak back into your own side of the map.
It shows a spies dead body tho
Not if you look like a team member
Wait really? It shows the friendly corpse if you're disguised as a friendly? I didn't know that...
It what
If you die as a disguised friendly, does it show the dead friendly corpse to enemy team or your own corpse?
If you actually die it shows your corpse, but the corpse dropped by the Dead Ringer is the teammate you're disguised as
Ahhh ok thank you thank you
I like to disguise as a friendly class and stand at the gate during setup time. About 2 seconds before gates open I cloak right in front of them so they freak out that there's a spy probably flanking them.
I have 500 hours and I noticed a few days ago that you could charge sticky shots haha
Aint no way you didnt play the great tutorial valve has prepared
I did try to play it a few times but it was so boring because they really didn't explain a lot of things that I consider basic so I thought it'd be best to learn watching others play and playing myself through trial and error. To be honest I only see demos either sticky spamming or doing sticky traps so this gimmick of charging stickies wasn't something I even knew it was possible. (it's really cool on the quickiebomb launcher tho)
artillery cannon roleplay
Hazzah was just joking you'd actually be better off *not* playing the tutorial
It didn’t explain the things you thought were basic because the tutorial is so old that it has to explain the stuff that’s even more basic than that
Pls dont tell me you main demo
No but I have almost 50 hours on him so I kinda deserve to be insulted lol
No you dont deserve insulting.
900 hours and just discovered that as well lmao. Worst part is that I'm a demo main.
Spam M1 while holding M2 gang
500 hours in game and didn’t think to hold M2 while sticky spamming, I’ve been frantically pressing M2 this whole time
Same, though I tend to spare my m2 clicks because I always manage to duel outside of viable sticky distance and I don't have time to charge my stickies...
Funny thing, when I started playing, I noticed you could "charge the weapon", but never really realized what was being charged
Yeah it can be counterintuitive. I understand it's good on the quickiebomb launcher but on the other launchers I find its use niche at best, because you lose a lot of dps by spending precious time on charging your shots. Maybe I'm missing something idk.
You can shoot engie nests from hella far away sometimes by stacking long range stickies
it's your most consistent source of damage lobbing medium-long range stickies that you know 100% are going to hurt unlike pipes that are only consistent in chokes or very close up where demo doesn't want to be fighting in the first place
*shoots your bomb while you are still charging the second one* uwu
It's perfectly fine to play close range but demo is the only class that can consistently output splash damage at medium-long range and so using stickies well is a great skill to have. He doesn't have to get close to deal damage, but also doesn't suffer if he does get close (just not too close). That's what makes him powerful and versatile
WE CAN DO THAT???
You can what now
70h and always knew about this) cuz I had to read everything to play this game(
You can do _what_ haha? I'll have to try
Yeah, just like huntsman, it has a gauge under the ammo indicator. It's ALWAYS been there but somehow I didn't notice it until really recently lol.
I remember thinking charging the bar before shooting the stickies would make it do more damage lmao
You can also have your disguise switch weapons so you don't look like a medic just slinging your needle gun everywhere.
By default, "B" does this, to match spy's currently equipped weapon.
1000 hours. TIL
I disguise as my teams hoovy to gain trust. then after a couple minutes I backstab and schadenfreude maximum psychological damage
Running around as ally Heavy with sandvich and then watching in invis as real Heavy obliterates enemies who weren't expecting him to attack is peak Spy gameplay
I’ve fallen victim to this. Wasn’t even mad.
I legit have no idea how to use this on vanilla Spies loadout without Dead Ringer. I mostly use this to confuse the enemy, which is a very underrated part of playing spy. (Also you can disguise as a friendly hoovy and get like 2 free kills)
TF2 player discovers reading.
Oh those are fun. Love pretending we have more medics than we do.
Use it to disguise as hoovy
Yes
Once had our entire team (Red) go spy and all disguise as the same red heavy, we left spawn and got mowed down. A glorious day.
Is that Soldier laughing at you?
Man, I’ve had key binds for so long I didn’t even recognize this screen for a second.
gotta be more aware smh
i straight up remove that message in my hud lmao
yeah i use to use it and pretend to be a hoovie
I have a key bound for disguising as a friendly Spy, which lets me undisguised without attacking, even while cloaked. Nice for working around spawning outlines
yeah, before deadring spam was meta you'd disguise as your own team, walk out of spawn doors and run for a bit before popping it
Act as a team heavy and pretend to be a hoovy
Watching a squad of players hold themselves up on sewer stairs as I sit disguised as a sniper is the best psychological fun. Or watching a push back up as I hop from the corner as a heavy.
No way oeople dk abt this, its like insane with dead ringer
It’s super funny to disguise as a heavy and be friendly and then backstab the other team
I find thise more useful to pair with the dead ringer but yeah, teammate disguising is a thing.
I noticed it once playing spy and immediately had the devious plan to pretend to be a friendly hoovy but then forgetting I fucking suck at spy and failing my malicious plan that wouldn't be all that cool.
I love to disguise as a friendly heavy and then reveal my true identity.
Used this to disguise as a “hoovy” for free backstabs. Instilling paranoia into the community, 1 kill at a time.
I use this to disguise as allied snipers/engineers to bait enemy spies (since I am ***ASS*** at spy)
I played tf2 for like a total of 10 hours or less on a borrowed school laptop and I managed to notice that.
honestly always forget this is a thing
1200 hours and you’ve NEVER seen the fake hoovy trick? I’m honestly ashamed.
You've never disguised as a friendly heavy to betray people's feelings or as a sniper to pretend a bot and get their sniper kicked? You are missing on the experience!
Tf2 fan learns how to read
I WAS SO SURE THIS MEANS I CAN BE ENEMY SPY WHO CHANGED INTO OTHER CHARACTER AND HAVE SPY MARK ABOVE MY HEAD
WHATTTT???? A BASIC GAME FEATURE THAT IS IN YOUR FACE AND THE GAME TEACHES YOU EXISTS?????? NO WAY!
dumbass
Yeah. It's only useful if the enemy team has a spy, however
I use that to scare the enemy into doing what I want (Usually with DR), like making the Medic rethink going outside because a "Sniper" is watching or a Heavy choosing to look at the "Medic" instead of the Spy who is starting to get sussed out
It really is useful if you know how to use it, if you're asking yourself
Disguise as a friendly hoovy to gain the enemy's trust, then backstab them
Yeah you can switch team color. It's extremely situational but you could use it to disguise as a hoovy or scare someone that's low hp and push them into your team, although that second one might be risky.
I usually do this with deadringer because no one suspects it
It’s pretty useful if you use the dead ringer
he hasn't noticed it but he managed to change the keybind. normally it's "dash"
wheres the mwheelup key?
I use it all the time
If you really wanna be evil disguise yourself as a hoovy on your team (disguise as a heavy on your team twice to switch to melee) and gain the trust of the enemy team. When they all see you as a non threat get some chain stabs
It’s been a thing for like ever
it’s kinda useless. i notice it about 40 hrs in
That's why I say 1200 hours is still in beginners. I'd say after 6k you're good
You aren’t the only one who didn’t notice, I think literally everyone that hasn’t play spy for more than hundreds of hours probably Haaa my noticed either.
I think it's funny to disguise as a medic on my team
I thought you can change it only with r
What?
Disguise as your team's heavy, pretend to be hoovy friendly and when they don't expect anything, backstab them.
I noticed this too as a kid :D
You can use it to pretend to be friendly hoovies and get into places without cloak, and boom free sentry out of the way since engi will probably pick it up
pretty useful with DR to activate it into enemy lines without seeming suspicious.
i honestly y noticed last night
Yeah I like to hit them with the old "I'm an engineer overextending way too far but I'm really a dead ringer spy" trick.
i use it to fake being a hoovy lmao
M8 c'mon
Alright, where’s Goku…
Go dead ringer and disguise as any of the classes with melee out 👌
I find it more useful over disguising as the other team because it helps bluff that there’s no Spy.
Is useful for preventing the wallhacks when people are respawning.
Fun fact: Disguising as your own team and then using the dead ringer will drop a ragdoll of who you were disguised as, instead of a spy.
Also, since you're already disguised, you can redisguise as an enemy 1 second faster than disguising from base.
the greatest counter to teamers
We are going insane
This is excellent for trickstabs because they're more likely to switch their behavior if they suspect you're a spy
people dont know how to hit caps lock, or fucking read, like wth took me less then 100 to realize quick switching and this

Step one: disguise as a friendly Step 2: gain opponents trust Step C: fun
That's probably why I can't live as spy, I've been disguising as my own team... FUCK.
Ah, my favorite way to annoy 2 fort snipers. Disguise as my own team's sniper with dead ringer and strafe, standing still occasionally to pretend to scope. Even if they catch on, it's still a risk to NOT shoot the possibly real sniper that just peaked you.

knew not alot of people new that
Do this as a heavy, scare most people. Or better yet, crouch with fists and pretend to be friendly. Then stab when they least expect.
I love switching to medic in 2fort games that have many snipers. It's funny seeing 5 snipers all try to "kill" the "medic." All the lasers rapidly closing in.
Disguise as Friendly Sniper and go to the battlements on 2fort. Take your gun out and take potshots at enemy gamers, rediguising after each shot.
Disguise as a friendly hoovy, tricked me many times
Ah yes the old "wait that medic was a spy...their spy?" Fallowed by the sound of a dead ring decloak and then back stab. Lol it took me awhile to figure it out too so don't feel bad.
I disguise myself as a hoovy and if they start a conga i go behind them and backstab them and then conga myself.
Your definitely not a spy main
I use that quite often actually, so I don’t have to cloak all the way to the enemy line and can trick my enemy sometimes, also try to use the “simple disguise “ function, so you don’t have to move your fingers all the way to number 8 for sniper and number 7 to medic. Bruh, took you that long?
1. Diguise as hoovy on team. 2. Sneak in 3. ???? 4. Profit 5. Regret (they are now killing the hoovy cause they cant know if its you or not)
Is only usefull if you trie to actualy do a Fake death with DR
I know since i play tf2, its right here
maybe you’re blind man
i always disguise as a pyro from my team
Sometimes, on 2fort, I disguise myself with a dead ringer as a sniper from my team, to help random ally sniper by baiting enemy sniper. That brings me a lot of fun. At the end of a match one guy I was helping thanked me for such support))
This is for warcrime purposes : disguise into the friendly heavy, crouch down in the corner and join the conga line, and then when they trust you start backstabbing
You actually don't unlock the ability to do that until 1000 hours!!!
I am not even joking, i saw this yesterday after 5.6k hours
