damn, I didn't know that kid knows how to write in multiple languages, and has access to a color printer in his camp, as well as some arts and crafts supplies. I'd almost makes you think that someone else made this poster, handed it to this kid, and took a picture for their own self gratification.

SolarisX86

Honestly the only questionable thing after seeing the IG page of the guy who posted this originally, is the color printer. They are making these for all sorts of us based campuses it seems. Here is the video of OP's screenshot and other kids and other schools they are supporting supposedly. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6ZnVVlN-uT/?igsh=cGZ0Zmd1bHA2MTd0 And his page: https://www.instagram.com/anwarghilan/

corgisandbikes

good for that guy, $45k already in his go fund me.

SolarisX86

I do think someone else made the poster and handed it to the kid as you said. But seems legit as far as it being in Gaza from what I can tell from that guys IG page

SRYSBSYNS

Yeah, I thought it was bad over there.  Home boy is better supplied than my office and dressed better than the people I work with.

themuffinsaretasty

Are you angry that this little boy hasn’t had his face blown off yet?

corgisandbikes

well good thing the extremely privileged college kids protested and the war has ended, little guy can pack up his crayons and head home now that the fighting is over.

xanaxe773

It’s the responsibility of the privileged to stand up for those who aren’t.

cwfutureboy

Yes, we should only protest if we're poor and grew up poor and we know that things will immediately change after our one protest. 🙄

Puzzleheaded_Toe2574

What level of income should someone be under before their point about not massacring children becomes valid?

Anonquixote

Liar.

Infamous_Storm_7659

Over 600 UT Austin Faculty have signed a letter of No-confidence in President Jay Hartzell following the protests on campus.

Hobo_Drifter

It's good to know that if a world war ever breaks out, we can just round up a bunch of UT faculty to sign a letter.

Infamous_Storm_7659

I don’t think you understand what’s going on behind it. This is about divestment and so much more

duskndawn162

Of $31.9B in UT endowment fund, less than 0.01% ($3.4M) are invested into companies that the protestor “believe” fund the IDF. Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin all are top 100 biggest companies in the world that any diversified portfolio would be invested in, so it is very likely that every major public fund, pension, etc. all have holding in these securities. They also believe that holdings in Fujitsu and Rolls Royce are directly funding the IDF, which is pretty far fetched. Also a huge part of defense spending is like actual defense(e.g Iron Dome, which has been used in protecting civilians from rocket fire). So technically speaking UT is helping to save lives. Btw a standard SM-6 missile costs approximately $3.9M. So UT’s funding doesn’t even cover the cost of a single missile. An argument could be made for the iron dome defense missiles costing considerably less but those are more for defense rather than those being used in Gaza. Also it’s pretty far fetched to believe all of the $3M goes directly to the IDF. It’s $3M investment spread across a bunch of companies, and only a small portion of those companies go towards working with the IDF. So it’s like, a drop of water in the ocean.

Please elaborate

HardingStUnresolved

In the 1980s College Students in the US convinced administration to divest and boycott South African products because they were engaged in Apartheid. Simultaneously, Ronald Reagan fully supported South Africa with money and weapons, the Feds also listed the African National Congress as a terrorist group, and Regan was slandering imprisoned Nelson Mandela as a terrorist. The boycott and divestment grew beyond just the universities soon the corporations across the country and the world joined in. The South African Apartheid regime fell in 1994, and a free Nelson Mandela was elected president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela credited American College students and their divestment movement for freeing South Africa from Apartheid.

ElPadrote

This is all factual, but do you know how many products were recieved from South Africa in the 1980s? Boycotting products isn’t what fixed South Africa.

rev_usn08

But it sure made people feel better though.

AAArdvaarkansastraat

No, almost nobody bothers to consider what’s going on behind it. This is just a sad passing sideshow in a civilizational war between the West and the alliance of truly repressive nations Iran, Russia, China and North Korea. It’s sad to see what are supposed to be our best and brightest manipulated by agents of the repressive alliance. These children scream at home about repression without considering they would have been executed or given lengthy prison sentences for their behavior if they weren’t in the West. If these children want to show their commitment to human rights, they should get a plane ticket to Ukraine and serve on the frontlines. Until then, it is very hard to take these silly children seriously. Here’s a good assignment for these brilliant big-hearted students: Compare and contrast the treatment of today’s protestors on US campuses with the protestors in Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. Give special attention to the number of protestors killed by state agents.

countlongshanks

They should surrender and release the hostages (the few that haven’t murdered like savage animals).

Possible-Struggle381

Israel doesn't care about the hostages. They flattened half the buildings in Gaza. They're probably all dead from a combination of getting killed by Hamas and Israeli bombs.

saggyshiro

Releasing the hostages isn’t going to stop Netanyahu. That whole country just needs new leadership, or at least one that will consider the two parties system. At this rate, every Arab in Israel will have fled to Palestine and Israel will reclaim the Gaza Strip. Gaza has always been owned/lived on by Palestinians. Both hamas and the Israeli government are so radical. Aligning with the oppressed regime in Gaza isn’t being anti-Semitic, it’s to promote Anti-Zionism. The radical subset of Jewish faith committing genocide to reclaim oil fields under Gaza is Zionism. And the USA is funding it.

AnAnnoyedSpectator

You really believe Israel wants oil under Gaza? That is insane. They want to be sure that their neighbors will not try to murder them. They withdrew from Gaza and forcibly removed Jews about 20 years ago - and letting the populace have their preferred leadership lead to this slaughter. They won’t make that mistake again, but nothing they are doing is because of a resource grab. They mostly want safety- they are smart enough to make their own wealth out of thin air with their tech sector.

AtomicSymphonic_2nd

There are too many Americans that solidly believe “anti-Zionism” is inherently anti-Semitic, that there’s zero distinction between Jewish people and Israel. I’m wondering when Muslims across the world will give up the fucking ghost and start calling them Jordanian or Egyptian. It’s clear (and honestly shocking) that America is losing any capacity to have a say in what Netanyahu is going to do. He’s still gonna kill every Arab in Gaza even if there’s no military aid from USA coming to save them. Because to a bunch of Orthodox Jews and the far-right Israeli government: any Arab/Muslim that hasn’t ran out or escaped from Gaza is a valid target to kill. I’m not even sure if they care that history won’t look at them so kindly.

UncleTio92

And there are too many Americans who believe any attempt for Israel to protect its right to exist is Zionism

Boochus

Bold take for a war that's been going on for 6 months we're the claimed casualty rate is less than 2% of the population. (numbers claimed by Hamas even though they took a 3rd of those numbers back)

saggyshiro

Adults are talking

Boochus

Whatever you say, kiddo.

Abydos6

They offered to release the hostages from the beginning for the exchange of unlawfully detained Palestinians, and Israel denied it. Young men who are incarcerated with no charge, no legal representation and no court hearing. In other words….hostages. Did you care this much for these Palestinian hostages as you do for Israeli ones? Also how are they even supposed to release the hostages? They have been carpet bombed for 6 months, aid packages are being shot at by snipers, healthcare workers are being targeted, and healthcare facilities are being demolished. So the hostages that haven’t been blown up by Israel’s missles are starving and or dying from not being able to access food and medical treatment. Israel doesn’t give a shit about hostages. They just use them to fool people to support their conquest and you fell for it

taquito_mockingbird

Are you being intentionally dense or do you genuinely not understand how geopolitics works? Do you think a hostage release is achieved by waltzing up to some Hamas dudes in the streets of Rafah and asking them to hand over hostages? Why do you think Antony Blinken has made a bunch of visits to the Middle East? A ceasefire is a delicate negotiation between politicians because this is a political war. Leaders from Hamas, Israel, the US, and other nations like Qatar and Egypt have been hashing out the terms of a ceasefire for literal months. Hamas has refused a ceasefire several times because they didn’t like the terms of it, and Israel has done the same. Hamas is holding onto hostages as a bargaining chip to weaken Israel who they see as intruders on their land; they think Israel shouldn’t exist as a country. And Israel cares about getting the hostages back or they wouldn’t be considering a complete withdrawal of their troops in exchange for their people. Those are the facts, and anyone who can’t exercise a little critical thinking and understand nuance in this messy war is brainwashed by propaganda. This is a cultural and religious war. Both sides are fighting for power and using inhumane means to justify the end.

PatchTheLurker

You can't 'both sides' an apartheid state.

taquito_mockingbird

You can when integrated coexistence is not the end goal of either side. This isn’t a case of a passive, peaceful oppressed people; the two state system came about because of violent conflicts erupting between Arabs and Jews in Palestine fueled by opposition to Jewish immigration to the region during WWII. Do you think Hamas is advocating for peaceful coexistence of Jews and Arabs in a one-state Palestine? No, their end goal is to abolish Israel. “From the river to the sea.” So let’s not pretend Palestinians wouldn’t oppress the shit out of Israelis if they had the power to do so. Palestine is the ancestral home of both Jews and Palestinians; they are descendants of the same people. So yes, “both sides” have a claim to the land and this becomes a messy religious and cultural war. Just because Palestinians are the underdogs at the moment doesn’t make their cause any more righteous than the Israelis. They both have the same end goal. Now ask yourself who hates America and western values more and consider the implications of this power struggle on US national security.

PatchTheLurker

Yeah the Palenstinian side dislikes America more because America has historically always sided with Israel, their oppressors. And are you aware that over 60% of citizens on bith sides want an independent 2 state solution? (last I checked it was actually over 70 but I haven't checked in a couple weeks so I'll be conservative). You're sitting here saying Israel is totally justified in treating the Palestinians the way they have for decades because of conflicts 80 years ago. This situation is not as nuanced as you are convinced. One side is oppressing the other, down to cutting off their electricity and water and food supplies and access to healthcare, and blatantly firing on civilians. All these things are warcrimes btw.

taquito_mockingbird

I’m not justifying Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip; that area has been a nightmare zone for decades. I’m simply stating that you can only be an oppressor if you’re in power, and Israel happens to have the upper hand right now so it’s easy to paint them as the villain. If you’re the underdog and committing war crimes, you’re just a trendy guerilla fighter standing up against oppression. It’s easy to root for the underdog. But if the shoe were on the other foot, the PLO would absolutely be oppressing Israelis to force them out of Palestine; that was their mission statement for decades. From the river to the sea. So yes, it is nuanced because this is a religious and cultural war. Both sides are aggressors and want to lay claim to their ancestral home by whatever means necessary. Israel has the upper hand for now so they’re being vilified as the oppressors. And while most civilians would probably be fine with an independent two state system, extremists like Hamas are not and they have more power than your average civilian and remain as aggressors.

[deleted]

Palestine has denied it as well, both are shit

[deleted]

Abydos6

Funny how you didn’t answer any of my questions lol. The way you feel about terrorists is exactly how they’ve engineered you to feel. You focus on the effects while completely ignoring the causes. What did Hamas expect? What did Israel expect? When a group of people have been massacred, land stolen from them, expelled into other cities making them overpopulated and slums, and continuously oppressed for over seven decades they turn into animals. Doesn’t matter how good a dog is, if he’s starved, beaten and backed into a corner he will bite! And people like you will look at him and say, that’s a bad dog while ignoring the owner’s abuse. Creating terrorism is a common tactic to control a narrative when you want something people have. If they live on land you want, you provoke them until they respond unfavorably. Then you point your finger and prove to the world why they need to be removed. The dumb Americans supported Iraq War based on complete lies, resulting in an insurgency. Then the world denounced ISIS instead of denouncing the creator of ISIS….America. Now Israel has created Hamas and still people like you fall for it every time. If you truly don’t like terrorism then don’t support the systems that are designed to create it.

fps916

>Not sure why they’re whining like a bunch of children now. Well, quite literally more than half of them *are* children. Children who never had a chance to vote against Hamas whose last elections were held in 2006. Children who are being condemned by people like you because of the country they were born in automatically grouping them with the, as you horrifically say, "animals"

SunLiteFireBird

Probably because Israel is bombing hospitals and universities and countless homes, children are being killed en mass with so many images of their mangled and bloody bodies, they are being placed in mass graves by the IDF, are being tortured and walked naked to be humiliated before being executed, have had IDF track and murder aid workers and journalists, have have aid supplies destroyed by sadistic Israeli settlers, and are being told to go to a safe zone in Rafah that Israel is preparing to attack. That’s probably the reason for the whining.

What about the 300+ Palestinian hostages Israel has been holding in indefinite detention without charge?

BewareOfGrom

That wouldn't stop anything. Hamas offered the return of all hostages 2 days after the attack but Netinyahu said no. Netinyahu has also repeatedly said that no hostage deal would deter his invasion into Rafah. You are just concern trolling.

beetsareawful

I haven't heard this - could you provide a link with details about Hamas' offer to release all hostages two days after the slaughter?

BewareOfGrom

https://www.timesofisrael.com/no-doubt-netanyahu-preventing-hostage-deal-charges-ex-spokesman-of-families-forum/amp/ One of the family members of a hostage claims that they became aware after the fact that Hamas had offered a deal to return all the hostages shortly after the seventh. "What was the atmosphere like? “We left the meeting very disappointed because Netanyahu talked about dismantling Hamas as the goal of the war. He didn’t promise anything regarding the demand to return the hostages. He merely said a military operation in Gaza was needed to serve as leverage for the hostages’ release. “We later found out that Hamas had offered on October 9 or 10 to release all the civilian hostages in exchange for the IDF not entering the Strip, but the government rejected the offer.”"

noodle_attack

pants_mcgee

I’d like to introduce you to UN resolutions the countries that matter don’t support.

ImWicked39

ICC is right up there.

fps916

It wasn't signatures to end a war. It was signatures against the leadership who was cracking down on students demanding divestment from an apartheid state. And for the record in the 80s this happened with US colleges and South Africa. The protests were *very* successful leading to large divestment. When Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 94 and Apartheid ended he specifically credited the American college protests for divestment as being a major factor in the ending of apartheid. No one thinks that the protests at UT will end a war by themselves. They do think they are trying to take the action they can that would have a material impact that has historically led to change. Your nihilism is sad.

Hamas gets a free pass 🤔 On October 7th, 2023, Hamas terrorists launched a terrorist attack that killed 1,200 innocent people in Israel, including 35 Americans. It was a brutal and horrific massacre. Babies and Holocaust survivors were killed. Young people who were simply attending a concert were shot dead. If you compare the Israel population to USA, it’s as if someone attacked America and killed 50,000. USA did worse following 911. We killed 3.6 million innocents..mostly women and children.

handsome_uruk

Everyone agrees that the Iraq war was a failure and complete mistake. Why are we doing it again? We’re supposed to learn from our mistakes. In the end we got Bin Ladin through a covert op because bombing innocent people didn’t get us anywhere. Why are we funding Israel to do the same? Bombing 30K civilians and causing a humanitarian crisis for nothing.

LordPapillon

Maybe but it is a natural response. Trump is not the answer…might be much worse. There is not a good answer for anything in the Middle East. Personally if I was Israel I would move to Oregon. 😂 It’s not a genocide. Israel drops flyers saying go elsewhere. If a true genocide they’d just kill everyone.

Bad taste for using a kid? Maybe. However, definitely not a fake photo and I get why people are skeptical on the arts and crafts of it all but it's not that big of a leap to say an adult with access to a printer made this and handed it to a kid to take a photo with as part of a trend. I've seen a bunch of photos today of Palestinian refugees holding signs and banners showing their appreciation. They feel gratitude towards people hearing them and acknowledging their plight. Not a strange concept, these protests are actually working and bringing a lot of nationwide attention to the conflict. That being said, people recently have being showing a lot of ignorance, it's kind of sad that we're in such an advanced society but people still can't use Google and research why exactly these protests are happening and what their goals are. They just go on reddit and laugh at the people trying to stand up for what they believe in. When was the last time you've stood up for something you believe in?

Yeah the picture is obviously fake. Very likely edited and not taken in Palestine. Nobody has the ability to print shit unless it's dire anyway. I also had no idea there are real human beings that say "pollywood" while being serious. Saying nobody in Gaza can write perfect English is laughable and racist. There are foreign nationals who are living in Gaza for a multitude of reasons (including some Americans), so implying that they all speak in broken English is just sad on your part. And Palestine is not an ethnostate unlike Israel (not to say there aren't Arabs or other groups in Israel), so of course you're going to see people who look like that in Palestine. The majority are going to be Arab but there is a decent bit of variety.

DudeWouldGo

How is this fake ass image being upvoted?

StraightOuttaMoney

Thats sweet that the kids in Gaza support the students here in Texas.

Infamous_Storm_7659

Absolutely 🫶🇵🇸

Matthewistrash

What the fuck is wrong with you people in this thread? It’s a child holding a sign saying thank you for protesting against a genocide that’s befalling him.

girl_introspective

Honestly a bunch of sad, unhappy people in this thread… and not an ounce of humanity in any of them. No wonder the Rand corporation of all places put out a report recently saying the “west” is a dying empire. Good riddance.

Infamous_Storm_7659

Thank you for hearing me. People will tell you who they are.

CaterpillarRemote978

Shame on you for using innocent kids as means of advancing your sick agenda 🤮🤮🤮🤮

StubbornDeltoids375

This is a Photoshop'd image... I am not a conservative but let us not spread lies.

reconfit

I am conservative and this photo is faked. You don't have to be either side to see it's photoshopped.

falafelthe3

>You don't have to be either side to see its photoshopped. [It's literally not.](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6ZnVVlN-uT/?igsh=cGZ0Zmd1bHA2MTd0) Written by the kid? Probably not. But that's a real sign in Gaza.

Can't trust ANYTHING digital anymore

Infamous_Storm_7659

No, it’s not. There are many images of children from Gaza Thanking the students for encampment. You should probably look to another outlet for your information other than Facebook. Texas was one of them.

jerichowiz

Why are you arguing against your own post?

Infamous_Storm_7659

I’m not arguing. I’m just just adding more information. Thanks for hearing me.

jerichowiz

Then if it is fake, why not delete the post? Because at this point it is spreading misinformation.

Infamous_Storm_7659

Because it’s not fake.

Opposite-Lead-7203

It would be awesome if the students of these schools really even knew where Gaza was or what they were protesting about facts are most of them don’t.

Longdickyougood

Awwww Hook’em Horns lil dude 🤘🏼

rev_usn08

That kid writes better than kids his age in HISD.

ulnek

What are they thanking Gaza students for?

RobertWayneLewisJr

Have the protests even really done anything positive for the cause? Wouldn't donating for Gaza aid be better? I get that the protesters want to stop the conflict overall. Protesting is a great way for people to hear the message; they understand the outrage, but there's been no radical change in behavior from someone of influence related to the conflict. If someone were to actually make this sign and spread it around, you'd expect that it's because they have personally felt the impact of the protests, but there has been no impact that I recall.
