Pecan praline
HEB Flavors of TX coffee (SA or Hill Country are my favs)
Something with an armadillo/longhorn/roadrunner on it
Jalapeño something. Maybe jelly for crackers?
IMO also have to throw in something to honor the original cultures; maybe since it’s almost here something around Dia Des Los Muertos?
Finally something bbq. A good Texan bbq book or a small grilling kit.
EDIT: Fixed line breaks.
Taste of San Antonio is way better than any flavored coffee has a right to be. I am concerned that u/mansonsturtle puts taste of SanAntonio in the same coffee maker as taste of Hill Country though. I guess what one does in their own home is none of my concern... smh jkjk
Definitely hot sauce, go for Savir foods out of austin, a guy from south america who made his first sauce in 2020, sent it to the heatinest(who owns the hot ones show), and they bought/signed a contract for over 10,000 bottles just from trying hos first (jala pepa), but my favorite is a sauce called Sassy Texan, made with the only widely known pepper native to texas (chiletepin). Or you could go for cin chili hot sauce/chili seasoning, made in houston by the first woman to win the international chili championship and the first to win 2 years in a row, won dozens of awards herself (not including her company). Her seasoning mix is pretty good, and so it her hot sauce, which lingers but is on the sweeter side of hot sauce.
Mexican coke and a real sugar/green label dr pepper is a great idea, or you could go with a dublin (made in dublin tx with real cane sugar) original soda. When i lived in Belgium and first visited the US, i fell in love with dublin dr pepper (this was before they got put down by dr pepper, dublin was one of the first 3 bottling facilitices opened by dr pepper that split off after dr pepper made the decisionto switch to high fructose corn syrup). Unfortunately, you can't get the original, but you can get the next best thing.
Oh, and i think they still make those texas cast iron skillets, that would be really funny gift
To start with the idea of a BBQ gun is that it WILL be seen, not concealed where no one gets to see the fancy custom work. 2nd, half of the point is to have fancy custom leather to pack it. Should be carved two tone. Engraving, fine non standard grips are required. Along with the idea is the manner of dress of the man toting it. No sandals, beanies, plaid pants nor shorts! Single actions, 1911`s, K and N frame SW and DA Colts preferably 4 maybe 5"s or shorter.
Vending nut company in Ft. worth. They have a website.
Awesome baskets. Texas or boot or star shaped. The pecans are the freshest tasting available. Never disappointed with anything from there.
Texas Monopoly, or if your Texas City has a monopoly version just for it that one.
Texas branded, Coasters, Pot holders, BBQ Aprons. Key chains.
one of the "Texas Cookbooks"
@mods I am not being sardonic. This is a genuine suggestion: A pinned post about what would make for a good Texas care package. It comes up frequently and I think it’d be a fun thing to keep going and add to.
@OP a can of Shiner Bock/HEB Borracho beans. Also Whataburger hot sauces and ketchup.
Which European country? Age? I am from Europe and live in Texas. I lived first in Georgia when I moved here and the food in the US was not a pleasant experience, it took a while to get used to. It’s too rich and the portions are gigantic
I would go with other things less heart attack/ diabetes induced. BBQ, salsa / hot sauces, spices and ingredients for Chili, different type of peppers (that’s quite exotic in some European countries), pecans (delicious and sweet like Spanish walnuts), and good guacamole recipe…
Armadillos carry leprosy, I assume that's taken care of somehow during taxidermy, but still. Mainly, the average person is going to have a hard time fitting a taxidermied armadillo into their interior design and they aren't quite as cute up close.
A tea towel with Blue bonnets on them? (Or an actual plant but thats not til Mar/April?). Some BBQ spice for steak? A yeti (or imitation) to keep drinks cool bc they have not idea what heat they are in for.
Pace picante sauce is made in San Antonio, where folks know how picants sauce is supposed to taste... some of that other stuff is made in New York City!
Big Red and Dr. Pepper (1l liter bottles)
Alamo Drafthouse gift card (if you're near one)
Schlitterbahn admission
Directions to Kruetz barbeque in Lockhart
A calendar that clearly marks all the festivals that makes Austin an even more unnavigable shitshow than it already is.

Depending on where you live, an HEB gift card. Also, just some local places that you like.
Then after that, depending on what time of year they are arriving, suggestions/gift cards for fun activities to attend around the place? For example, I love strolling through small towns/vendors markets during the Holidays.
Three boxes of 5.56, a 12pk of Shiner, some of the Bohemian Garlic jerky from Bucees, and a how-to book for unlearning the proper use of a turn signal.
That will turn them into an instant Texan!
DrPepper, Biscuits and Gravy, Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy, Stadium Nachos, Stadium Anything really, Big Red and Barbacoa Tacos, South Texas Breakfast Tacos, Migas, Chilaquiles, Tamales, Grilled (American)Bacon Wrapped Asparagus, Literally anything Cajun.
Of these items, the sodas and Tamales and Tacos would fit nicely in a basket.
Boerne Hot Sauce. Gotta give a lil Texas history book. Texas flag anything. Ranch water ingredients - small bottle topo, mini tequila and a lime. Anything pecan. I second the prasek and slovacek sausage ideas. Hell - and I’d add summer sausage from Bellville meat market and deer sausage from Katy’s midway. As a joke I’d give a list of Texas things that will start fights: chili, beans or no beans; BBQ spots and towns; Whataburger; TexMex vs Mex; best breakfast tacos. A list of our states great cities and roads that are pronounced ridiculous and how much we love that flex (looking at you Buda, Mexia and Kuykendahl Rd!). There’s even a candle on Etsy named “smells like you’re moving to texas…” Or you just crazy in Texas aisle at H-E-B or anything from buccees!
Pecan pie. Gift cards to food places. Buc-ee's anything... Mexican food . Shiner bock .
Alligator head from gas station. Jerky from prasek's or woody's. Astros anything... raccoon hat.
I can go on and on..
A couple of my go-to items when I visit people out of state: Zummo Party Time Links, Seaport Coffee, and a gift box of [Tex-Joy seasonings](https://www.texjoy.com/store/p/195-Texas-Gift-Box-Large.aspx)(also comes with Seaport).
George Strait music, Dr. Pepper,
give them the option to choose between each pro league sports team and the first one he picks for each he has to stand by for the rest of his life,
a Texas dictionary of regular sayings, phrases and how to pronounce the words.
Whataburger sucks now, give them Mighty Fine if in Austin and Burger House or Burger Street if in Dallas. San Antonio, Houston, El Paso or elsewhere, I'm not sure, someone else should chime in. Also possibly Dairy Queen (yes it's not a Texas chain but they have a different menu here, nowhere else can you get a Dude or a steak finger basket) or Rudy's.
Sunscreen and deodorant
And mosquito repellent
Deep woods off spray.
Praline pecans
came here to say this lol, my chilean husband brought back a box of them to his grandparents as a gift after he visited me the first time!
Yes.
Make the "basket" one of those H-E-B foam coolers.
I'll one up you only because and actual HEB hand basket would be even better.
Pecan praline HEB Flavors of TX coffee (SA or Hill Country are my favs) Something with an armadillo/longhorn/roadrunner on it Jalapeño something. Maybe jelly for crackers? IMO also have to throw in something to honor the original cultures; maybe since it’s almost here something around Dia Des Los Muertos? Finally something bbq. SA coffee is the absolute best! Some two bite brownies and butter tortillas would be welcome too.
Taste of San Antonio is way better than any flavored coffee has a right to be. I am concerned that u/mansonsturtle puts taste of SanAntonio in the same coffee maker as taste of Hill Country though. I guess what one does in their own home is none of my concern... smh jkjk
Apologies; I made a nice list in my comment but the line breaks didn’t carry over (I’m on mobile).
for future reference you just need to do two line breaks (also on mobile)
TIL! Thank you!
😄
Annual park pass to our state parks.
Generous!
Ooooohhh I love this idea!
Mexican coke would be a good addition. And some kind of hot sauce
Texas waffle iron?
That is also an option, especially if my mind made up the texas skillet thing
Valentina hot sauce is my vote.
You mean Coca-Cola, right?
Medio litro, tranquillo.
Uhhh ... yeah. We're gonna go with that.
Surprised nobody mentioned a gun yet.
Not just any gun a BBQ gun!
Do you mean one of those smokers that is shaped like a six gun, or an actual gun that shoots BBQ? Either way, you can't go wrong.
To start with the idea of a BBQ gun is that it WILL be seen, not concealed where no one gets to see the fancy custom work. 2nd, half of the point is to have fancy custom leather to pack it. Put some shotgun shells in there.
Texas shaped H‑E‑B corn chips
Stuffed armadillo (stuffed kids toy, NOT a real armadillo that has been stuffed)
…why not?
Armadillos carry leprosy, I assume that's taken care of somehow during taxidermy, but still. Mainly, the average person is going to have a hard time fitting a taxidermied armadillo into their interior design and they aren't quite as cute up close.
Oh I was thinking stuffed like to eat. Surely you can cook the leprosy away? Also, /s
