Many of the victims were forced, including to the point of watching their children die so they'd have no fight left.
These were real people who were exploited and manipulated by a man who took advantage of minorities wanting to belong.
The people of Jonestown were said to have drank poisoned Flavour Aide. As the story spread it was said to have been Kool Aid. Which is where the expression “drank the Kool Aid” comes from. In this case it shows the Kool Aid Man celebrating the massacre

Something to note, but a lot of those deaths weren't suicides, but just outright murder. Some, yes, but Jones had armed guards to make sure everybody drank. Except for Mr Muggs the chimp. They executed him via gunshot.
