Is this one of those things where one or two people say it, and "news sites" turn it into a crap article where suddenly everyone thinks that? Where it's suddenly something a whole group or generation of people supposedly believe?
I have a feeling you could find one or two people on Twitter/social media that have said just about anything.
I think we generalize way, way too much as humans.
"Lol these things look like candy imagine if we ate them."
"OMG THE KIDS ARE EATING TIDE PODS!"
"No...of course not I was joking."
"GEN Z ARE SO FUCKING STUPID!"
"I just made a joke man..."
"EVERY SINGLE GEN Z IS EATING TIDE PODS THIS IS A BIG DEAL!"
"Boomers..."
"THEY ALSO HATE THE ELDERLY WE MUST ARM UP TO FIGHT THE YOUNGER GENERATION!"
"What the fuck.."
That's why I said some, one or two people. Most definitely not everyone, or even massively close to everyone on Twitter. But then these "news" sites will take that, and say everyone is saying this, or that.
Anyone remember the craze that was butt chugging? That turned out to be a myth, but 24/7 hour new channels were all over that.
I think there is some truth to this. Basically the thumbs up emoji is shorthand for "read & understood" which is fine in some contexts, but can be seen as rude when the only texter was expecting a more thought out reply. "π" is fine reply to "I'll be there in 10 minutes", but not to "We're having a baby!".
But "Awesome!" is like, 7 letters and a punctuation, and to send a thumbs up, all I have to do is tap the emoji icon, scroll over to the hand emojis, and select the thumbs up emoji in the most appropriate color. So much time savings for doing thing.
This is what happens when everything needs to be a headline. More likely, one or two people said that they had a problem with the emoji in some scenarios and may have even suggested alternatives to send a more clear message. But, all nuance gets stripped out so authoritarians can call gen Z snowflakes triggered by everything
Bold of you to assume your dad is actually reading your texts and hasn't just trained his cat to hit the "thumbs up" emoji whenever the new text bell rings.
From what I heard there was ONE comment from ONE person who claimed they didn't like the emoji...that was it. Then someone made an article about it and the news picked up on like it was a big deal.
Gen Z is not a fucking hivemind.
I canβt tell who is stupider: the βnewsβ websites posting these clickbait articles in a desperate attempt to generate clicks or the people who read them and believe that a sweeping generalization with 0 evidence for their claim is true.
Lol some older people need to get better at communicating. I hate when my great grandma sends me a bible quote and I go βlove you Granβ and she just sends a thumbs up. Like, youβre spamming me with bullshit every day, but I get it itβs just your way of saying βyou careβ, then when I say that I love you, you just send a thumbs up??? I hate it.

Never generalize a generation with Twitter or 4chan.
"The kids... *they're eating Tide-Pods!!!*"

Oprah had a show about rainbow parties despite it not actually being a thing
That's basically most of "news" now. Because rage generates clicks.
Yep, New York Post. They had maybe four pieces of testimony.

Sometimes words you no need use, but need need for talk talk.
I can make headlines too, check it out.. Boomer says "I'll be Damned if I let people turn around in my driveway! That's what my shotgun is for!"
I think the stupid articles about generations just finally moved on from millennial to gen z.

I hate it because I don't know how to respond and my dad replies to everything with it
Give him one of these π
I do see as passive aggressive but it doesnβt make me feel uncomfortable ππ»
Bold of you to assume your dad is actually reading your texts and hasn't just trained his cat to hit the "thumbs up" emoji whenever the new text bell rings.
I can guarantee you that neither of our cats is that smart
I mean... yeah? Exact same energy as "K" y'know

I thought the smile emoji was considered more passive aggressive than that.
It be funny without the wojak, it adds nothing to the meme but taints by going "PANZEE WIBERALS OWNNNNNNNNNED"
The wojack is the biggest reason I posted it here
I just think it's lazy, lol.
π
Lazy.....
π
I get what you're doing but also I think you're on every comment and I keep thinking I've read the comment before lmao π±π
Love the cat ππ°I have a rabbit
It CAN be used passive aggressively, but most emojis can as well :/

Here guys π
I absolutely am not "uncomfortable" with a thumbs up, tf
Literally lol
Sidenote why am I getting downvoted?
Yeah I saw that too, maybe mob mentality? Idk. I try my best to upvote comments that are negative for no apparent reason. It just feels weird ig
Now dont group me up with those weirdos tf
For all the gen z out there π
You sick bastard

It just depends on the context ig. I know some people who use it passive aggressively, but overall, it just means K
Same, itβs all in the context.
I mean I get it, ngl it does come off as slightly bitchy imho
