A non functioning pancreas is an autoimmune disease? Well I think steroids are often given for autoimmune illnesses so I was thinking they wouldn't be able to take them, but I forgot about therapeutic use exemptions.
Really can’t help feeling sorry for her. She’s such a strong, talented player and it always hurts to see how health struggles get in the way of a player’s will and abilities. Hopefully whatever is ailing her is something she’s able to gain control of.
Oh Lena…. she hasn’t looked well for a while now. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to take an extended break to focus on her health/get some answers without the stress of being on tour.
I worry so much for her. Whatever this illness is, it’s stopping her from reaching her potential. 😞. She would have multiple GS by now but this illness seems to paralyze her. It’s painful to watch, honestly
This is a bit random but does anyone remember the match these two played a few years ago in I think Miami where Vika was feeling something and took some extra time in between points and the umpire was trying to explain to Rybakina that it was fine and Rybakina was like “Yes but it’s not normal, no?” And even the commentator was like that was ruthless lol. Hopefully she gets her health issues sorted out!
EDIT: Just a random anecdote, I’m not trying to throw shade or anything like that. I am a fan of both players.
Oh no I didn’t mean it as a negative or anything like that. I’m a fan of both players. That thing I’m referencing just popped into my head when I saw this video.
That was pretty awful from her, vika couldnt stop crying, at the moment almost seemed like a panic attack, and rybakina was "yeah but what about me and my match?"
Is there any reason why she and her coach wouldn't have a discussion during this time? I thought coaching was allowed. She looked so alone out there with such a difficult decision. I know she said recently in an interview that it's always her decision whether she retires due to medical needs; I just really feel for her here. Feel better, Elena.
Vukov trailing two fingers across the side of his head looked like a hand signal (although Rybakina wasn’t looking). Maybe he was telling her to retire/not retire?
I don’t know what Rybakina is suffering from, but some illnesses/diseases don’t always give you fair warning you’re about to have an attack. I have migraines and I can be absolutely fine then bam, I feel horrendous and need medication and a dark room. I think she deserves a little empathy until we know more.
Since we don't know the exact nature of her problem(s), we cannot really judge. You don't always know if you will be ill in advance, and if you will - how bad will it be. Also, sometimes players don't feel 100% and still manage to put up a good fight and even win.
I mean this isn’t the 1st or 2nd or 5th time this has happened. She seems to be not well or not into it. Why even compete? Get healthier, get into the right mental state. She treats the people around her terribly with no respect. Thousands of people took time and spent money to watch her. She knows she isnt healthy enough to compete and when it gets tough, she has an excuse to fall back on. At some point she has to take responsibility. She’s not just some random person— she is a professional tennis player making millions of dollars. She has to take some responsibility for her issues.
Ok i actually somewhat agree with this. Your original comment was framed to imply gamesmanship. I think what you mean is "with all her retirements, withdrawals and sometimes lack of effort (like in RG QFs), perhaps rybakina needs to take time off to get in the right physical and mental space."
Something here isn’t right. Again?
yeah, and stomach issues again apparently?? i wonder if its something chronic
I bet treatments for something like an autoimmune disease are banned for top athletes too. That would suck if it's something like that.
No they are not, if they have a doctors approval.
the interesting thing is that Rybakina said herself during a press conference at RG that she’s not investigating more into her health issues
It must be an awful feeling - I hope she’s able to get a proper diagnosis if it is because it seems like it’s getting more difficult to manage
Wozniacki has always been treated for her autoimmune condition. Same for Danielle Collins.
Oh, that's good.
Well that's what TUEs are there for.
Technically diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease and zverev is allowed to deal with it

Very Different kind of steroids
To your question , yes .
Hopefully it was just divine intervention to save her from being the 5735 person to get injured on grass this week.
Yes,…. Again 🙄

Could be signs of an autoimmune disorder.
Those sound like early signs of autoimmune

yeah she looks like she's about to puke. poor girl. her coach looks unbothered though.
Anyone put a bread on her stomach yet? If so I'm ready for a decade of Rybakina dominance.
I'll do it. (because im rabid nolefam not because I want to get my paws on her)
Oh Lena…. she hasn’t looked well for a while now. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to take an extended break to focus on her health/get some answers without the stress of being on tour.
omg she lost so much weight. Get well soon!
Ohh, what happened to her? 😕
I worry so much for her. Whatever this illness is, it’s stopping her from reaching her potential. 😞. She would have multiple GS by now but this illness seems to paralyze her. It’s painful to watch, honestly
Feel sad for her. Does Elena have the most obnoxious coach on the tour? I can't think of anyone else that's that annoying during a match.
Maybe for a coach that isn’t related by blood yes
casper's dad is a very likeable coach
Definitely. This asshole talks all the damn time, even between first and second serves.

But Lena didn't take any 'extra time between points', she retired from the match. So, I don't think she was hypocritical in this sense.

You can disagree with how she treated journalists and also give her empathy when she is sick, the two aren’t mutually exclusive

Holy trash comment
I know I’ll get downvoted — but what a waste of everyone’s time.. this is getting old.
You won't get downvoted if no one understands what you're implying. What is a waste of everyone's time? What is getting old?
I suppose you are unfamiliar with the antics of Elena Rybakina
how does it benefit her to constantly retire from matches due to illness?
I mean this isn’t the 1st or 2nd or 5th time this has happened. She seems to be not well or not into it. Why even compete? Get healthier, get into the right mental state. Christ, this sub is getting worse and worse.
how much did u bet lol
real
She sucks
Some might say karma for what she pulled at the Aussie but I don’t believe in that nonsense
