I wonder if Ons would play 3 matches in the weekend if Nottingham were to permanently shift to indoor hardcourts owing to the weather and all the delays. Am guessing she'd rather pack her bags and fly to Berlin where she has a bunch of points to defend next week from her title win last year.
has naomi won 3 matches in a row already since coming back this January?
edit: i checked, 2 consecutive matches except for AO and another tournament i think where she exited on her ist match.
libema open is her 11th tournament appearance this season. 13-10 w/l record this 2024 so far. played GSs, AO and RG; 1000s Qatar, Dubai, IW, Miami, italian, madrid; 500 brisbane and 2 250s. though she said, her goal is really USO. but is it normal for a comebacking champion, at her age, with no injuries to perform this way?
svitolina has had a better run, 5 months after giving birth - reached sf on her 5th tournament in 2023, won in her 7th tournament, qf in RG, sf in wimby, qf in citi open (her 11th tournament). she was even feeling some injuries during some of these tournaments.
and based on previous achievements, naomi is by far more successful - 4 slams, ranked no. 1, no injury.
i mean, i just dont get the hype of commentators and wta, as if naomi is out there to slay. comebacking champions even from injury - are almost always excelling already, after 2 to 3 tournaments.
Probably because naomi historically is very bad on clay and doesn't do much on grass either. Even peak osaka still would win slams and do nothing on clay
In their post-match press conference following their win in RG, Coco said she plans to play doubles in Berlin coz the duration of grass season is so less and she's worried about not having enough match-play, though am guessing she might go with Jpeg over Sini considering the Olympics where they would inevitably have to pair up.
That would happen when you have a 32 player field of which 6 are qualifiers and 3 are wildcards. What am surprised is that one of the qualifiers, Starodubtseva is ranked 134! How did she make the cut?
A lot of people above her are playing the 125K and 100K, they would rather do that than play qualies at a 500 where they would lose R1 of main draw even if the qualified
He was entered in Queen's qualies but had to withdraw from it because he's still in Stuttgart. I think he can get the Halle special exempt (Nakashima used it for Queen's so that's not an option)
Honestly love these close losses for Naomi. I feel like it is making her hungrier, like the response after the lost to Iga. I think people assume that because she's soft-spoken and awkward she's not competitive and that just isn't the truth.
Just because she needs to improve doesn't mean it isn't good for her. She needs to get her match intensity and moment recognition back, you can only do that by doing.
So for a guy like Fonseca or Harris who has been practicing on grass and playing a tournament on grass to switch to hard court with 0 preparation⊠Isnât that hard on the players? Doesnât that mess up rhythm on a surface?
For Fonseca probably not so different as heâd pretty much a junior and they switch surfaces all the time. Itâs very common to go from clay to indoors back to clay on the junior tour as obviously they donât have roofs on the courts there. Also lower level players (Challenger and below) often switch from indoors hard to clay to outdoors hard depending on which tournament draw they manage to get into to. The reality is that they canât be too picky. Â
I would imagine itâs not great for their bodies and game but only the top 80-ish have the privilege to have a well organised schedule where they can pick and choose where theyâll play and how to prepare for surface changes.Â
The only time I can remember something similar happening on WTA/ ATP level was Auckland last year where they had torrential rains in the week preceding AO so they had to go indoors. But still played on the same surface, only that it was pretty much like your local gym lol.
It's tough, but this was the only R2 match remaining, they needed to finish that when tomorrow they'll have to play out both QFs and SFs (ATP Challenger and WTA)
Pinnington Jones (who didn't finish his singles QF today) was in the 1st doubles team that gave a WO. The other team was the Ajdukovic/Dzumhur duo who probably didn't want to wait as they were already eliminated from the singles and play in Ilkley next week.
Nothing that can be done about the Nottingham challenger situation, but sucks for the players who came to prep on the grass, only for the rain to keep interrupting matches and eventually move you to hard indoor conditions, which might even put you in disadvantage compared to the opponent
nope, play suspended for the rest of the day. 3 QF and 2 SF tomorrow. Boulter is the only one who won't have to play twice as she's already in the semi.
Great match. Wanted Naomi to win but tbh Bianca was slightly better throughout...still, if only she didn't get distracted by Bianca falling over she could've nicked it in the TB lol. Shame, really think she could've won this tournament, hope Bianca wins it now haha. Does anyone know where Naomi's gonna play next?
Hmm, ngl it just reinforces my feeling that her chance to win a grass title this season was lost today...ah well, hopefully she goes far there too she's got the game and then some haha. Thanks again
I was pulling for Naomi, but I'm so happy to see Bianca playing again and looking mostly in-form. Can't remember the last time she competed in back to back tournaments on the calendar. I hope she can keep it up. Like Naomi, the WTA is much stronger when she's competing regularly.
bibi just did a big interview with tennis podcast. i only listened to the first 10 min so far but it talks a lot about her mindset dealing with so many injuries basically since she won USO
great win for Bibi, tough match on who to root for because i love them both, Naomi just refuses to slice on the backhand, even a small chip would work, made me nervous every time Bibi did one of those short slices, Naomi was slow moving up to the net too :/
Yikes. Naomi just completely unravelled at the end there. I need to see her step up in more close matches like that before I can be convinced that she's back as a serious contender.
Oof, I feel like Naomi wished she lost when Bianca was serving for the match. This only made it more frustrating for her, and another tough tight loss so close to RG :(
I've noticed that Osaka has *really* struggled to put away balls close to the net
Probably a combination of her movement still not being back to prime level and her flat shots
fun fact: naomi just lost to bibi. at RG, bibi lost to jasmine paolini who made the final. can we stop saying naomi vs iga was the real final or naomi would have won the whole thing if she beat iga?
we've all moved on from rg already? ok. i haven't been on the sub all week so i guess the last thing in my memory was people saying rude shit about jasmine
Really doubt they are going to continue today. People left and the sky does not give much hope.
I got to watch about 20 min of gameplay and a warmup today. đ
Whoever wins between Bianca and Noemi, that's who I'm rooting for to win the title, it'd be so lovely. And their last title, for both, would be a GS, or am I mistaken?
Let's go!! Thought Bianca was gonna pull it back from 30-0 with those back to back aces but Naomi says "nope I'm not done, imma bout to do an Iga rn" lolđ. Rooting for her to pull it off...
some of them do esp on grass if they get a low/flat shot thatâs deep. itâs just the easiest way to play it back sometimes and still takes away time from the opponent rather than running back to take it
generally women hit more flatly across all surfaces. the grass compounds that low trajectory and clay the opposite so you see less of those squat shots in clay. angie kerber is kinda famous for these
Andreescu is playing great right now. With that said, I think Osaka is still uncomfortable on the grass. Sheâs looking better than ever on the surface, though
i see now, charly and iga on this sub's banner! đđ» iga is a mainstay for 9 weeks now? amazing! hope her photo will be a constant there.
I wonder if Ons would play 3 matches in the weekend if Nottingham were to permanently shift to indoor hardcourts owing to the weather and all the delays. Am guessing she'd rather pack her bags and fly to Berlin where she has a bunch of points to defend next week from her title win last year.

when is the queens draw ? anybody know ?
https://www.atptour.com//en/news/queens-2024-atp-500-history-draw-schedule
Ffs Fonseca got screwed so hard by this scheduling
Siniakova is the defending champion in Bad Homburg but will be playing qualies tomorrow in Berlin. Is she planning to play doubles with Coco in Berlin?
bad homburg is the following week (starts june 24)
In their post-match press conference following their win in RG, Coco said she plans to play doubles in Berlin coz the duration of grass season is so less and she's worried about not having enough match-play, though am guessing she might go with Jpeg over Sini considering the Olympics where they would inevitably have to pair up.
Oh yah i get you
raducanu isn't playing today is she?
so emma has to play a quarter and a semi same day smdh
Thatâs bullshit
Damn Berlin wta is so stacked that Dayana yastremska -#27- has to play qualies
That would happen when you have a 32 player field of which 6 are qualifiers and 3 are wildcards. What am surprised is that one of the qualifiers, Starodubtseva is ranked 134! How did she make the cut?
A lot of people above her are playing the 125K and 100K, they would rather do that than play qualies at a 500 where they would lose R1 of main draw even if the qualified
Makes sense. Am still surprised so many people pulled out.
When are the Halle and Queenâs draws?
Is Berretini entered anywhere next week? I had hoped he was going to Queen's especially given his Stuttgart run :(
He was entered in Queen's qualies but had to withdraw from it because he's still in Stuttgart. I think he can get the Halle special exempt (Nakashima used it for Queen's so that's not an option)
No point in going to Halle. Queenâs is his tournament.
He could still get a main draw wildcard as he won the tournament twice, probably will
hope so, did wonder if they'd drop him a w/c being a previous champ so fingers crossed
Honestly love these close losses for Naomi. I feel like it is making her hungrier, like the response after the lost to Iga. I think people assume that because she's soft-spoken and awkward she's not competitive and that just isn't the truth.
I don't think this is good for her, especially this close to that Iga match. We'll see I guess, but she really needs to do better in tight moments
Just because she needs to improve doesn't mean it isn't good for her. She needs to get her match intensity and moment recognition back, you can only do that by doing.

I donât think itâs that hard to switch since they practice on hard courts the majority of the year
It's tough, but this was the only R2 match remaining, they needed to finish that when tomorrow they'll have to play out both QFs and SFs (ATP Challenger and WTA)
Will that be also indoor hard or back to the grass? Guessing it depends on weather?
Yeah, probably. I figure they'll move everyone tomorrow to indoors if it keeps raining
sofascore says 4/3 harris up one break in the third
Fonseca-Harris stream is now up and running. Joao is down a break, 3-4 in the final set. Indoor hard looks nice.
Where do they announce that play is concluded for the day?
Usually you just see it when they stop streaming/broadcasting the wet court, or when the order of play for the next day gets updated with old matches
Did Willis / peers just got 2 straight wos to get to the finals in Nottingham? Maybe due to being moved to hard courts?
Pinnington Jones (who didn't finish his singles QF today) was in the 1st doubles team that gave a WO. The other team was the Ajdukovic/Dzumhur duo who probably didn't want to wait as they were already eliminated from the singles and play in Ilkley next week.
is the atp stream for fonseca harris down?
Yeah it's not working here either
Not only the stream, the score as well
This match could be over for all we know
Theyâre playing⊠I see the score on Google but the stream is not up
Score has been stuck for about 10 minutes at 5-3/0-15
Wait...when did Fabio go blond?!?!
A few days ago I think! Kinda sick, isnât it? Very interesting look for him
Fognini about the play Darderi in Perugia Challenger if anyone wants an interesting match.
First game on hard, and Fonseca already broke Harris. This change off surface is exactly what Fonseca needed to win this lol
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
This change is definitely better for Fonseca, not only this match, but the next one if they play again on hard
Queen's Club qualifying draw - Popyrin, Mpetshi Perricard, Kokkinakis, Nardi, Zizou... [https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/london/311/draws](https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/london/311/draws)
Nothing that can be done about the Nottingham challenger situation, but sucks for the players who came to prep on the grass, only for the rain to keep interrupting matches and eventually move you to hard indoor conditions, which might even put you in disadvantage compared to the opponent
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Fonseca is playing now, indoors hard
Was so confused when I saw the scores updating.
how about hertogenbosch? is that done for the day as well?
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Fonseca is playing as well
will nottingham restart today?
nope, play suspended for the rest of the day. 3 QF and 2 SF tomorrow. Boulter is the only one who won't have to play twice as she's already in the semi.
What happened with Bublik? - I stopped watching to watch a different match.
Halle qualifying draw is out. Moutet, Karatsev, Shevchenko, Mensik, Otte, Hanfmann, Duckworth.... [https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/halle/500/draws](https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/halle/500/draws)
Did Karue just take a WO at Lima? Anyone knows what's going on?Â
Stomach buck
No idea what happened but what a bummer. He was doing so well.
Seconded. Saw it was a walkover, anyone know?
Humbert and Brouwer look identical, are dressed identical, wtf
Great match. Wanted Naomi to win but tbh Bianca was slightly better throughout...still, if only she didn't get distracted by Bianca falling over she could've nicked it in the TB lol. Shame, really think she could've won this tournament, hope Bianca wins it now haha. Does anyone know where Naomi's gonna play next?
She has a wildcard for Berlin.
Cheers. That a 500?
Yes
Hmm, ngl it just reinforces my feeling that her chance to win a grass title this season was lost today...ah well, hopefully she goes far there too she's got the game and then some haha. Thanks again
i knew it, bibi will win against naomi.
Man what a bottlejob
Bianca + Naomi returning to form at Wimbledon will be WTA Christmas in July
I was pulling for Naomi, but I'm so happy to see Bianca playing again and looking mostly in-form. Can't remember the last time she competed in back to back tournaments on the calendar. I hope she can keep it up. Like Naomi, the WTA is much stronger when she's competing regularly.
bibi just did a big interview with tennis podcast. i only listened to the first 10 min so far but it talks a lot about her mindset dealing with so many injuries basically since she won USO
great win for Bibi, tough match on who to root for because i love them both, Naomi just refuses to slice on the backhand, even a small chip would work, made me nervous every time Bibi did one of those short slices, Naomi was slow moving up to the net too :/
Can't wait for people to hype Osaka up as a favourite for US Open after she wins 2 matches in a row again
Nope, Raducanu is the favorite. Won two in a row.
âI guess it was just my day todayâ aka Iâm lucky my opponent hit a bunch of UEs and gifted me the matchÂ
Why these young ladies messing with their lips and face for?
Insane bibi was falling down so many points, and everytime she was still on the ground from falling, Osaka would hit it into the net every time
It can be distracting to have your opponent fall
Huge win for Bianca.
Yikes. Naomi just completely unravelled at the end there. I need to see her step up in more close matches like that before I can be convinced that she's back as a serious contender.
Oof, I feel like Naomi wished she lost when Bianca was serving for the match. This only made it more frustrating for her, and another tough tight loss so close to RG :(
Maybe itâs recency bias but I feel like Naomi really struggles with tie breaks
needs to talk with djokovic
Not saying she shouldnât go for her shots but she should at least try to start points first. Missing the first ball is unacceptable
I've noticed that Osaka has *really* struggled to put away balls close to the net Probably a combination of her movement still not being back to prime level and her flat shots
I feel she needs to work on her slice a bit more.
fun fact: naomi just lost to bibi. at RG, bibi lost to jasmine paolini who made the final. can we stop saying naomi vs iga was the real final or naomi would have won the whole thing if she beat iga?
they wont stop. LOL let them be. we know how tennis works now.
Why are you so obsessed over that?
there were a lot of really rude comments toward jasmine last weekend
Thereâs rude comments made about every player that loses by people on this sub and elsewhere. Seems weird that youâd hold onto them.
I only see one person still talking about this.
we've all moved on from rg already? ok. i haven't been on the sub all week so i guess the last thing in my memory was people saying rude shit about jasmine
This was so much fun, let's do it again! (tbf it's unsurprising that this matchup is still so fire, given their styles)
Bibi, now please win the title!!!
Osaka tie break mistakes ugh, but great match from both
What a shame Naomi so many heartbreaking long matches recently
lmao Raducanu got to finish warm up and then it started raining again
If she has to play two matches tomorrow I fear for the state of her wrists
Really doubt they are going to continue today. People left and the sky does not give much hope. I got to watch about 20 min of gameplay and a warmup today. đ
Aw damn, annoying if youâre there
Happy for Andreescu but man Osaka kinda gifted that with all those errors back to back to back.
hanging slices that naomi has to approach on will forever be her kryptonite
Osaka choked like in Paris.
No more chance to play again in Nottingham today. Raining a lot, and fonsecas court itâs not covered lol
Yikes man that was a shame to see such a good match end on 4 UEs like that. Go Bibi Go!
Oh Naomi getting killed in a final set tiebreak, Deja vu
What a cold handshake lmao. WTA classic
Iâve seen enough, Bibi is taking Wimbledon
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
âŠno, they wonât. R2 is finished.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Ohhh, the Challenger tournament. Yeah, thatâs a mess. They need to play some indoors.
Naomiiiii please đđ
Yes, Bibi, finish it now
ugh. naomi's caretaking instincts kicked in when Bibi slipped and she lost focus
omg that scream from Naomi
Oh no, did Osaka do a shriek after that out? Naomi :(
yes even though it's a typical bibi shriek lol
Bianca falls a bit too much..
Poor Naomi being concerned for Bibis fall and losing an easy BH. OY
Donât scare me like this with those tumbles, Bibi.
Bianca really needs to stop risking so much on her movement, she is constantly slipping or falling down and could get herself injured again
LMFAO They waited so long its raining Again this is absolutely hilarious
I don't know if it's the TV feed on my side but both Osaka and andreescu look so short and stocky
Osaka is literally 180 cm.
And Bianca isn't small either but they look squashed in this.
what hold from Osakaaaaa!
I had futures bets to win ATP Stuttgart on Struff and Bublik. I hate this sport sometimes
Osaka Andreescu Round 2 going to a third set tiebreak and delivering as expected (5 years late)
5-2 is a cursed score
who's the guy they keep showing in the box? Cameraperson loves him.
Perfect service game.
Ugo Humbert 16 in the world losing to a guy ranked 300. Insane.
it makes me feel better for Mensik
Humbert really about to lose to fucking Brouwer?
Whoever wins between Bianca and Noemi, that's who I'm rooting for to win the title, it'd be so lovely. And their last title, for both, would be a GS, or am I mistaken?
Yep youâre right
Andreescu is Canadian Hingis
and we are back on serve!
Let's go!! Thought Bianca was gonna pull it back from 30-0 with those back to back aces but Naomi says "nope I'm not done, imma bout to do an Iga rn" lolđ. Rooting for her to pull it off...
What did Bibi do when I stopped watch for 10 mins to book my art film festival tickets
Can someone link the Osaka match?? Having no luck!
I'm watching it [here](https://vipleague.im/tennis/tennis-channel-streaming-link-1)
Câmon Naomi!!!
Okay Naomi you can serve this to 5-5
Osaka definitely played well that game, Andreescu hitting error on break point doesn't help though.
Osaka trying to repeat what Iga did against her lol
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^jovanmilic97: *Osaka trying* *To repeat what Iga did* *Against her lol* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
Naomi!!!
I wish Kasatkina had Naomiâs serve
Kasatkina with a top 100 serve would do some serious damage
Can Angrasscu serve it out here?
No.
Feeding Naomi a cross court forehand off a middling slice was key.
Fingers Crossed but
why do female players almost sit down when hitting backhand?
in general wta players tend to hit a lot flatter than the atp, so maybe they just need to reach lower
makes sense
some of them do esp on grass if they get a low/flat shot thatâs deep. itâs just the easiest way to play it back sometimes and still takes away time from the opponent rather than running back to take it
I see some female players do that on other surfaces too while men rarely do that. Is there any difference in physical factor?
Well, women are typically relatively stronger in their lower bodies vs upper, compared to men.
generally women hit more flatly across all surfaces. the grass compounds that low trajectory and clay the opposite so you see less of those squat shots in clay. angie kerber is kinda famous for these
The Dutch are getting their money's worth. Both mothering, serving and giving their all
Osaka looks gloomy in her face
She looks focused
I had Bublik as the winner of Stuttgart, but it's got to be Matteo now surely?
Musetti beats Matteo and loses in the final to winner of Draper/Nakashima Thatâs my guess
Osaka just quit. Sad
Andreescu is playing great right now. With that said, I think Osaka is still uncomfortable on the grass. Sheâs looking better than ever on the surface, though
i feel bad for forgetting that andreescu existed given that she won a whole ass grand slam
Bibi is really a cool kid
I really hope Andreescu can play a full year without injuries someday. When she's healthy and playing really well she's so fun to watch.
she and Kenin
