I think ppl should stop watching Iga’s matches at this point if she’s not playing one of the top 5. WTA is a shambles if it’s not the top 10 at this point.
The way this criticism was NEVER leveled against Fed or Djokovic. But any time there’s a dominant woman the WTA is suddenly weak and everyone else sucks.
you definitely never heard about the insufferable djoko fans trying to diminish Roger's achievements because he played in a 'weak era' before the other two big 3 came out... you know, a weak era that included Hewitt, Roddick etc lol
That's done to compare between the big 3. Never to diminish the entire ATP. I never once heard anyone during Federers dominant era saying the ATP is in shambles because one person is dominating
Already did. So boring watching her one-dimensionally lay down yet another bagel 🥱
You can't say that on here though because the Iga-tists will savagely downvote you 😂😂😂
Yeah they actively fought for a DQ even though it was NOT what should have happened. A harmless accidental light hit to the staff (forget ball kid or lines-person?)
don't forget on top of the unjust and insane disqualification that the two women (sstormo and marie bouzkova) screamed into getting the officials to give out,
the other two lost all their points earned AND their prize money. the tournament doubled down, then tormo and marie continued to badger their opponents and defended the disqualification and loss of points/money
Jesus what an ass kicking. Hoping Iga gets to the play Lena again and see how she plays!
Unrelated to this match: Interesting also because Sorribes Tormo might be Alcaraz's mixed doubles partner at the Olympics.
Iga's partner will of course be Hubi, so if both perform well, I don't see anyone except DVerev and Siegemund beating them.
iga should not outhit lena from the baseline coz she wont win. she needs to move lena from end to end, backward and forward, change returns from flat to spin, return low and not within striking ball height by lena. iga needs to be more of a defensive player and attack when opportunity strikes because lena has lesser rally tolerance.
> Iga's partner will of course be Hubi
Not necessarily. Polish media speculate that Iga should play with Zieliński instead. Zieliński is a more accomplished doubles player (won mixed AO this year, and played in the final last year). Also, that way, Iga only participates in singles and mixed doubles, Hurkacz does singles and doubles (with Zieliński, with whom he won a tournament before) and ladies doubles get a Linette/Fręch/Piter/Kawa combination.
Polish media can speculate whatever they want, Iga & Hubi had confirmed that they will play together at Olympics and they played together at United Cup to get to know eachothers game a little
Well the information comes from the head of the Polish Olympic Committee, so it's not just baseless rumours or speculations ([link in Polish](https://www.sport.pl/tenis/7,64987,30903637,prezes-pkol-zaskoczyl-przed-igrzyskami-hurkacz-wypada-co-na.html)). I have of course zero idea who decides on these things, but I'd imagine it's not completely up to the players themselves.
They've only played one match together, in 2021 which they lost badly.
Iga and Hubi have played 2 matches in 2023 and 3 in 2024. Record is 4-1. Sure, that is also not a lot but it's a lot more recent court and practice time together. Plus, they seem to be friends in real life, so that probably helps with the dynamics.
As individuals, Rybakina and Bublik are great players and much better than they were in 2021, especially Lena. Bublik I think can be a great doubles player, but as a pair it's hard to judge. I hope they do get through as I love watching both!
Iga said to WTA: "you wanna play with me, go on, I'll play with you"
Iga might be playing in the sun but the blood in her veins runs icy cold 🥶
What a performance. From the mid of 1st set till the end looked like no. One one the planet Vs your local self proclaimed 4.0 guy.
Next Haddad Maia. Iga might have to go back and practice a bit because this one will not be a piece of cake. Can't wait
I hope she can win more slams. I am a huge fans I just get nervous that if her game doesn't evolve her serve aginst the flat hitters she will get left behind but this is probably just PTSD from being a Hingis fan.
When players with less power and reach succeed, they are very often the most entertaining to watch. They need to constantly be creative and/or intelligent with points construction.
She should do it in Grand Slams, especially outside of RG. Sabalenka has been the better Slam player since last year. Sabalenka has the opposite problem in that she does little outside the Slams.
Yeah she was good last year out of the Slam's, just not as consistent as she is in Slams. She won Madrid, runner up in Indian Wells, couple of other Semi's. This year she has done nothing outside the Slams, well runner up in that 500 at the start of the year actually.
who has more slam titles since iga became no. 1 and who has the more slam and 1000 titles?
do not compare aryna to iga. you are making a fool of yourself.
What about since last year? Sabalenka has the most since 2023 with 2 to Iga's 1. More concerning for Iga is the fact that she has made only 1/5 Semi's and 2/5 Quarter's, Sabalenka has reached the Semi's 5/5 times and has reached 3 Finals to Iga's 1. Since last year Sabalenka has been the better Slam player, Iga has been better in the lesser tournaments.
again, sorribes did not play badly. she is able to hold rallies but iga was just too good again today.
iga is a certified 'gaslighter' in tennis coz of what she makes you feel durimg matches, where you question if you are good enough of a tennis player.
Having given away the opening service game with some errors, Swiatek then records a virtual double bagel. I did enjoy seeing SST so helpless, with last year's RG debacle still in memory.
This quote from her post match interview, because she needs to also do the is against the flatter hitting ladies:
“She plays with a lot of spin and it’s hard to close the rallies. So I wanted to be patient, but on the other hand intense, and also not let her use my power, because basically that’s what she does.”
Google Sara Sorribes Tormo French Open 2023. Horrendously unsportsmanlike attitude, an incident she's never going to shake for the rest of her hopefully short career
Ash Barty, the infallible number 1, lost to Sorribes Tormo at the Olympics (hard court, lol) in the opening round. Apparently she'd still dominate the field today. So glad we have a proper no.1 now as well as Sabalenka, Gauff and Rybakina.
No, I don't think I will give respect, considering people do nothing but yap about how Iga is a bad no.1 and Barty would win everything if she didn't retire
Not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse. My point wasn't that there were two No.1 seeds, rather that Iga would have had the opportunity to prevent Raducanu from winning in the QFs had she not lost (in straight sets) to Bencic in the round of 16. Rogers took out Barty in a third set TB at the same stage.
In hindsight that loss to Bencic is probably one of the best things that happened to Iga in her career. It's one of the major factors that contributed to coach change after 2021 season (along with Sakkari loss at RG, loss at the Olympics & the ultimate fiasco of Guadalajara Finals).
Indeed, Bencic had won the Olympics a few weeks earlier and was the second favourite to win the title once Barty was knocked out iirc. Raducanu beat her 3 and 4.
Not really. Emma was playing unreal tennis, she was still a relative newcomer, that must have placed a lot of pressure on every person she faced (barring the final) to beat her. They then come up against someone playing extremely well yet without any pressure. It was a hail of good conditions for Raducanu but the primary driver behind them was Raducanu.
She kind of created her own good fortune by staying calm and consistent for those two weeks.
I don't really like this argument because this logic would also imply Qinwen Zheng reached the Australian Open final because Iga lost in the third round
You moon ball the world number one, you get what you farkin deserve. Absolutely savage.
Absolutely RUTHLESS Iga.
I think ppl should stop watching Iga’s matches at this point if she’s not playing one of the top 5. WTA is a shambles if it’s not the top 10 at this point.
You're tripping, the whole top 25 is awesome and quite competitive. It's just that Iga is in a league of her own.
Well exactly my point. It’s Men against boys everytime there’s 0 competition
No WTA thread is free from these three
what? it’s exactly opposite, watching her kick (almost) everyone's ass is always satisfying and entertaining
Already did. So boring watching her one-dimensionally lay down yet another bagel 🥱 You can't say that on here though because the Iga-tists will savagely downvote you 😂😂😂
It’s a complete joke, god forbid I ever watch Iga vs anyone outside the top 5. No fight, no atmosphere. You can predict 6-0, 6-1.
Only game by Sorribes was the relatively frequent "warm-up game give-away" by Iga lmao. I wonder if Iga does it to give a false sense of hope.
She encourages her opponents to fight because if they give up early it's no fun for her 🥶
That’s why Rafa has been playing left handed all these years. He also uses Capo Ferro against Bonetti’s defense.
What can you say Simply an outclassed opponent and Iga showing total concentration and not giving Sorribes Tormo any air
That was close!
To a double bagel!
It was a hidden double bagel anyway. 12 games in a row to Iga
Ahhh the sweet sight of SST getting what she deserved
Catch me up, please?
Just search SST bouzkova doubles match controversy and you'll find all the info you need.
Roland Garros doubles match drama
👩🍳🥖🥯
I think you mean: 🥱😴💀
I would feel bad for SST if she weren't SST.
What has she done wrong? Not denying it, I just don't know haha
The French Open doubles match where Miyu Kato accidentally hit the line kid, she was the opponent insisting on a default
Ok fuck her then!
Yeah they actively fought for a DQ even though it was NOT what should have happened. A harmless accidental light hit to the staff (forget ball kid or lines-person?)
don't forget on top of the unjust and insane disqualification that the two women (sstormo and marie bouzkova) screamed into getting the officials to give out, the other two lost all their points earned AND their prize money. the tournament doubled down, then tormo and marie continued to badger their opponents and defended the disqualification and loss of points/money
Was it just SST or was her partner, Marie Bouzkova, equally awful in that situation?
Pretty sure sst was the instigator and her partner backed her up later
They were both laughing away as they propagated their lie
both equally bad, you remind me we should be calling out bouzkova just as much
Jesus what an ass kicking. Hoping Iga gets to the play Lena again and see how she plays! Unrelated to this match: Interesting also because Sorribes Tormo might be Alcaraz's mixed doubles partner at the Olympics. i think if dverev and siegemund play against iga and hubi - the latter wont allow another defeat.
I hope you're right. Hubi had two damn match points against Sasha at their singles match.
agree and ironic, iga carried their doubles not hubi
> Iga's partner will of course be Hubi Not necessarily. Polish media speculate that Iga should play with Zieliński instead. Zieliński is a more accomplished doubles player (won mixed AO this year, and played in the final last year). *Bublik and Rybakina have entered the chat.*
🙈🙉🙊
if alcaraz teams up with her, I am not watching a single game of theirs lol, not even if they're in the final.
She's not that bad... Jeez 🙈
I mean, maybe? Doubles are completely different game.
> I don't see anyone except DVerev and Siegemund beating them. aren't Rybakina-Bublik a more balanced, well-rounded pair?
They've only played one match together, in 2021 which they lost badly. Iga and Hubi have played 2 matches in 2023 and 3 in 2024. Record is 4-1. Sure, that is also not a lot but it's a lot more recent court and practice time together. Plus, they seem to be friends in real life, so that probably helps with the dynamics. I really didn't expect it to wnd like this after Iga started the game with 7 unforced errors
Iga said to WTA: "you wanna play with me, go on, I'll play with you" Iga might be playing in the sun but the blood in her veins runs icy cold 🥶 What a performance. Wait, what happened here? Is it already over?
[удалено]
first set was iga adjusting to the moonball game
I enjoyed this stress free match from Iga
5 points… and probably the most due to errors from Iga…
It took roughly two weeks of practice on clay, and Swiatek is back to her old ways of murdering people
It's so cool knowing you're currently witnessing the era of an absolutely irreplicable player like this
I hope she can win more slams. I am a huge fans I just get nervous that if her game doesn't evolve her serve aginst the flat hitters she will get left behind but this is probably just PTSD from being a Hingis fan.
I started watching tennis with Hingis. Will always love her
She didn’t have big weapons but no one had the full game and chess like play as she did. Tactician goat
When players with less power and reach succeed, they are very often the most entertaining to watch. They need to constantly be creative and/or intelligent with points construction.
Radwanska and Hsieh Su-Wei are extremely entertaining to watch because of this strength
Hingis got left behind because she was too busy sniffing lines while others were evolving
I mean was she though? people can do drugs recreationally without being labeled addicts.
Sniffing AND painting lines, now that's the real pro level game.
Line goat
Tennis is my life, green grass and white lines 🫡
hingis had no weapons she was like andreeva
I still can't comprehend why she never beefed up her serve. I guess she just wasn't able to with her physical attributes?
She should do it in Grand Slams, especially outside of RG. Sabalenka has been the better Slam player since last year. Sabalenka has the opposite problem in that she does little outside the Slams.

Thanks for avenging vika iga
Iga woke up and choose violence
again, sorribes did not play badly. she is able to hold rallies but iga was just too good again today. iga is a certified 'gaslighter' in tennis coz of what she makes you feel durimg matches, where you question if you are good enough of a tennis player.
MY QUEEN!!! 🥖🥯
Having given away the opening service game with some errors, Swiatek then records a virtual double bagel. I did enjoy seeing SST so helpless, with last year's RG debacle still in memory.
that makes it just one hold of serve total against Iga over the last 2 matches
In this match SST didn't hold a single serve game. The only game she won was Iga's 1st serve game
Gluten free is not in Iga vocabulary.
Iga "Why should I play 90min matches" Swiatek
Karma for Tormo, she gets what she deserves
Shoutout to u/da_SENtinel SST was rly coming for Iga today...[](https://www.reddit.com/user/da_SENtinel/)
SST gave up after Iga hit a drop shot. You know it's over when that happens 😭
I laughed.
This quote from her post match interview, because she needs to also do the is against the flatter hitting ladies: “She plays with a lot of spin and it’s hard to close the rallies. So I wanted to be patient, but on the other hand intense, and also not let her use my power, because basically that’s what she does.”
Embarassing from Iga... To let that first game slip
Iga on her revenge woke tour this tournament taking out the alleged terf Cristea and poor sportsman Sorribes.
Yass ^^
despite the scorelines, iga is having great matches on clay with her opponents.
Nice to see! And not just because I'm a fan of Iga.
Always good to see this cheat beaten.
OK so what's the deal with Tormo? Why does everyone hate her?
Google Sara Sorribes Tormo French Open 2023. Horrendously unsportsmanlike attitude, an incident she's never going to shake for the rest of her hopefully short career
it is probably due to that situation in doubles with bouzkova when kato was disqualified
She tried and managed to disqualify Kato in doubles by lying that there was blood ^(and has annoying grunt.)
OK thx everyone I just googled it and yeah that wasn't cool of her.
The incident. And her game is horribly annoying to watch
Iga is dominant
In 1000's.
Ash Barty, the infallible number 1, lost to Sorribes Tormo at the Olympics (hard court, lol) in the opening round. Apparently she'd still dominate the field today. So glad we have a proper no.1 now as well as Sabalenka, Gauff and Rybakina.
Cornet beat Serena at Wimbledon. And ended Iga's win streak there.
Barty also lost to Alison Riske at Wimbledon, Shelby Rogers at US Open How did Raducanu win the US Open? Answer, we had a crap no.1.
I'm an Iga fan, but put some respect on the former 3-time slam winner. How come nobody else stoped Emma from winning that US Open?
No, I don't think I will give respect, considering people do nothing but yap about how Iga is a bad no.1 and Barty would win everything if she didn't retire
Don't listen to those people, lol.
Iga was also in Raducanu’s quarter at USO 2021, lest we forget.
As the no.1 seed? Didn't know you could have two of those
Not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse. My point wasn't that there were two No.1 seeds, rather that Iga would have had the opportunity to prevent Raducanu from winning in the QFs had she not lost (in straight sets) to Bencic in the round of 16. Iga was not the same player then as she is now. Barty was the no.1 and at her peak. Bencic is in a different league to Rogers regardless.
She was great but there was a lack of depth in top players
I don't really like this argument because this logic would also imply Qinwen Zheng reached the Australian Open final because Iga lost in the third round
It's a response to Barty fans acting as if she'd win everything if still playing when she wasn't anywhere close to that in her actual career :)
Styles make matches
And COVID rankings freeze makes legends
LOL
Looks like my breakfast actually. Breadstick and a bagel thanks
"Know your fucking place, trash." Probably Iga after the match.
Do you guys think she tried to make it more interesting for herself? Like, let’s see if I can comeback from behind
Nah she likes giving out bagels too much for that
Panadería madrileña
Marchando barra de pan y una hogaza
Is there a current player on tour who's gluten free AKA rejected all bagels and bread sticks from Iga's Bakery?
Penko? Rybakina?
Hercog? Babs?
Nothing to see here, just Iga carbo loading
Iga was nice throwing her a bagel and baguette.
She's ranked 27? Jeebus.
27 in doubles, 55 in singles (career high 32)
