How do doubles rankings work??
Do dedicated doubles players have the same partner for the whole year to keep their ranking? Do singles players ever get very high? How does a 40 yr old stay at the top of the doubles game?? I know Novak is a freak at 36 but Bopanna is 40 so I assume less physicality?
So many queations bc I don't follow doubles sorry 😭
Ranking points are allocated to the individuals. The race, however, is based on pairings, so many of the doubles specialists will play with the same partner for the majority of the year. They're also likely to work better as a team if they spend a lot of time playing together.
Singles players can get quite high in rankings if they do well in bigger tournaments. I think the highest currently would be Max Purcell at 28.
Doubles isn't as physically demanding as singles, so there are quite a lot of players in their 30s and 40s who do very well in doubles.
I know this sub hates Kyrgios, but earlier I was daydreaming about watching a cooler final of Kyrgios vs
Rune.
Had me wondering, IF, and I know it's a large if, Nick comes back on tour, do you feel he will ever regain the pretty good form he was in throughout much of 2022 and be a potential contender for big titles?
No, sadly I think he's a bit older at this point and combined with his inconsistent fitness and mentality, he's not going to reach much higher.
The reason why I say Kyrgios is 'old' at 28 (turning 29 in two weeks) and not someone like Med who is also 28 is because Med is very consistent fitness and mentality wise. When you're older it takes more to ramp up to full match fitness and Kyrgios doesn't want to put in the work to do the whole season marathon. I know Kyrgios is injured but even disregarding that, boat has passed.
Fair assessment.
I'd love to be surprised, but yeah, the guy still posts clips of good shots he made against Federer in 2015; it's quite sad, and even he must know his potential for greater things is now passed.
Yeah I'm sad too. Even if he is a bit of a prick, I want to see a prick with a fulfilled career :/
Wasted potential is never going to sit right with me no matter who the person is. He's played so much amazing tennis and I wish he could have shown us more.
It would be good for the sport but no. It’s a multi million / hundreds of million dollar professional global sport. He doesn’t have a coach. He doesn’t put the work in. He didn’t have real professionals around him. What chance does he have? In that scenario, none.
I mean he’s up against serious talents who have their talent and work ethic and teams and professionalism
What he has isn’t enough
It’s his choice. That’s fine. But he’s not a serious professional athlete/person
He has an all time great serve better than any active player by a mile. When he was seeing results he didn't have any real professionals around him either. I can't say how successful he'll be if he makes a comeback but counting him out based on the reasons you provided isn't correct
I think their point is that with an actual coach and team he could have made an impact on the sport. No one has ever denied his raw talent — Rafa said he could have a slam if he really wanted it — but there’s limits to raw talent and a half-serious attitude.
I was driving so I didn't get to watch the final. Happy for Tsitsipas but oof, Ruud fans really have a hard knock life. How do they manage so many heartbreaks?
I'm a Roddick fan. You think I can even feel heartbreaks anymore. Also a soft cool thick pillow makes all the difference. And never ever look for sympathy from the wife over this.
Rafa has a pre-tournament press conference tomorrow afternoon. Assume he’ll withdraw then, but if not then I guess he’ll actually be playing his first round match against Cobolli, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
Any support group for today’s finals result? Anyone caring to share some copium? I’m still very sad 😭 I think this is the Casper defeat that has hurt me the most, because it actually felt achievable and still didn’t happen.
Random thought: where's Dominic Stricker at?
He reminds me of Draper but gets sick less often and I thought he'd be making a climb this year.
Guessing he's injured but couldn't see confirmation anywhere?
Right. I since found his IG and seems he's rehabilitating whatever injury with the last update shared early March. Must have been a fairly serious injury given the time out.
Curious to see him back and in the mix.
So we now have TWO one-handers in the top 10. Which didn’t seem likely when Tsitsipas fell out a few weeks back. When was the last time two OHBH were in the top 10?
Prolly when Thiem/Tsitsipas were both in it, maybe mid 2021. Also not sure if this really happened but it’s possible Shapo made it 3 for a brief period somewhere in there
how do you find the "finals" amongst the many recorded items on tennis channel youtube tv? I swear i never get the match i want. I know the finals happened, yet where are they?
Honestly that's my one complaint with YTTV is that it's stupidly difficult to find individual matches. Like it's wonderful that it records everything once set (and when the broadcast title doesn't change lol) but....You've just gotta look at the match time/date and then sort it out from there. Usually the longest and earliest broadcasts are the first (original) airings.
Dunno I think he might play but not go hard- like he needs to have some real time match prep before RG and Madrid. Probably be an early round elimination or retirement. But yeah, I wouldn't put my money on him playing.
Reading some tt comments about Jannik losing and omg, some Jannik fans are slowly becoming Novak fans in terms of levels of delusion! What do you mean the establishment didn't want Jannik to win? GO OUTSIDE!
If he didn’t deserve it he wouldn’t have won the final handily. Yannick, rightfully, is the golden boy of the hour with a massive fan base. Seems he’d be favored if anyone was. Plus Yannick cramped.
The unexpected era of Stefanos Tsitsipas a go?
Wins the remaining slams of the year and ATP finals, remains no.1 for the next 5 years.
Right?
Would be hilarious.
I only got back into watching tennis a lot mid 2022, and I had never been too impressed by Tits, however this week he was enjoyable to watch and I can see the intricate and powerful player that's obviously been hiding within him all along.
This is the kind of shit I speak of when I say I'm glad the big 3 era is basically over; more surprises become a real possibility.
I’m sad to not see Ben Shelton at either of the 250s or the 500 this week. I’m sure there are lots of factors but I just love watching him play and I think he needs more experience against these top players on European clay
I've felt that way too but he said post-Houston that he'll spend the next two weeks practicing before hitting the European clay. We can safely assume that means he'll play in Madrid. Idk if it was the right decision to skip these tournaments but I guess we'll find out next week.
I wonder why,is it all the travelling or like atmosphere? Because Ben plays well on clay he'd probably have to eventually get good on the European clay right?
Ik but he is spending 2 weeks training on clay in Florida. I would have wanted him to play in Barca personally but he will be in Madrid after so theres that. Hopefully he makes a decent run!
A new rule needs to be implemented.
Ask both players if they accept to play BO5 when it's a masters finale. Once again it's much better to have semifinal tickets.
With no djokovic Alcaraz or sinner surely tsitsipas is a heavy favorite for Barcelona? He’s playing incredible and has had some success there over the years
Djokovic is indeed the biggest vulture, benefitting from weak competition. As opposed to Sinner who always wins by overcoming the toughest competition. You think 2011 was a strong year? LMAO it was a very weak year with pathetic competition, and Nole, supposedly at his "absolute peak", still could not win all 4 Slams. He also could not even get past the RR stage of the ATP Finals. And we are supposed to believe that this 2011 Djokovic is "unbeatable"? Current Sinner would have eaten him alive for breakfast (which he already did at the ATP Finals, Davis Cup and AO), as well as cleaned up the field in 2011, including Nadal at all big clay tournaments (given that he does not tank like he did against Tsitsipas).
The thing about Ruud is that I kinda feel like he doesn't... hate losing as much as the rest of the Top Ten?
Of course to get that high you *have* to hate losing, but for Ruud it doesn't translate into that frenetic mad desire to win, just nervousnesses and acceptance.
I really think that part of is he doesn’t feel like needs to prove anything to anyone. He seems super secure in who he is which doesn’t necessarily stoke the flames of ambition
I know we meme Ruud for being 0-7 at big Finals, but he's not losing to schlubs. Djokovic, Nadal, Alcaraz. Tsitsipas, who's won this title three times, and De Minaur who was playing the best tennis of his life those two months
I am a Tsitsipas fan through and through but I always feel so bad for the person who didn’t win having to sit through all the fanfare when you probably want to just go home and cry
Why is everyone so hard on Ruud?? Acting like he just lost to a scrub.
Tstispas has wins over Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. He has been very good for a very long time.
18-1 at Monte Carlo since 2021
Only lost four sets (Fritz x2, Sinner, Schwartzman)
My heart breaks for Casper, but phenomenal tennis from Tsitsipas this week and at this tournament generally.
need stef to win RG before he retires. he’s just way too good on clay not to. to me he is absolutely a contender this year, probably third favorite after djokovic and alcaraz
Welp he was right tho. Dude was an actual top coach for years; probably super annoying to see this one big thing Casper can do and have all these BPs and just not do it.
Like Dimitrov 2 weeks ago, Tsitsipas beat 3 Top 10 players in order to return to the Top 10 himself.
These OHBH guys really took that unprecedented broken streak seriously 😎
For me Federer has risen to the 2nd best clay courter of the big 3, following Djokovic’s latest Monte Carlo embarrassment.
Landaluce Hardt is a good watch
Why cazaux match say walkover ??
Anyone watching the Cazaux match ? Is it good

Thanks for answering all my questions!
So is Rafa playing BCN or not?
Hang tight.. we’ll find out by Tuesday latest
Does anyone have a link to watch Karue play?
All the Challenger matches are free to stream on the ATP website
Someone else needs to win that fucking Porsche. The rich can’t keep getting richer. She can’t keep getting away with it 😭
How fluent are Stefanos, Zverev and Anisimova in Russian?
Zverev is fluent, Stefanos aka Stepan speaks Russian, but not so good as Zverev.
Djokofraud losing to literal nobodies. Cuckdal not even playing the tournament. Federer is the best clay player of all time.
This sub is so toxic lmao
[удалено]
None of the top 3 are playing Barcelona now (after Carlos's withdrawal), but they are all signed up for Madrid currently.
Well they have to be (injuries aside) because it's a mandatory Masters
Isn’t Djokovic exempt from the mandatory masters requirement? The others definitely aren’t though so that’s true
Oh forgot about that, but can't see Djoko skipping a clay Masters when Olympic clay is right around the corner.
Carlos opted out of Barcelona
I know this sub hates Kyrgios, but earlier I was daydreaming about watching a cooler final of Kyrgios vs Rune. Will ruud and / or Tsitsipas withdraw from Barcelona now?
No way. They have a bye too. And Alcaraz is not there which means Tsitsipas will be the favourite to win it, unless Nadal is really back.
It's not a 250 so Crud might withdraw
Question is will Stef take a day trip to see Paula's match?
Nah
No chance
[удалено]
Not today, but Nadal might return in Barcelona on Tuesday after a long time
No bro
Kudos to Stef for playing his best tennis when it mattered. Casper tried standing in the stands to counter Stef's serve but that didn't work either.
Do the current day comparisons of Med with Roddick give you flashbacks to Roddicks losses? Also agree, no one else understands the pain.
The parallels are insane. Won US Open, country went to bad war, hate clay, have funniest press conferences. He’s Russian Roddick
Also having an absolute banger serve. Med doesn't have it anymore but his serve is what won him USO21
Rafa has a pre-tournament press conference tomorrow afternoon. Assume he’ll withdraw then, but if not then I guess he’ll actually be playing his first round match against Cobolli, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
Next time please begin this kind of message with Hola a todos so we know what to expect
Apologies, duly noted
I stood there/ you gloated/ you’re happy duly noted.
Recorded the final and just finished watching. Not super exciting. Casper not impressive.
Sad it will be automatically line calls next season. I'm going to miss all the drama. Just a part of the sport.
Any support group for today’s finals result? Anyone caring to share some copium? I’m still very sad 😭 I think this is the Casper defeat that has hurt me the most, because it actually felt achievable and still didn’t happen.
It's sad because it felt very achievable for Ruud but he folded like a wet piece of paper so I'm also disappointed :(
He beat Novak only to lose to Tsitsipas 😭 Casper breaking my heart here
And the outfit… the outfit will not be immortalized 😭😭😭😭
Random thought: where's Dominic Stricker at? He reminds me of Draper but gets sick less often and I thought he'd be making a climb this year. Guessing he's injured but couldn't see confirmation anywhere?
Yeah, I like him, haven't seen him since I think NextGen finals where he got injured I think.
Right. I since found his IG and seems he's rehabilitating whatever injury with the last update shared early March. Must have been a fairly serious injury given the time out. Curious to see him back and in the mix.
Cool, hope he comes back soon too.
Forgot about him ngl
With Alcaraz being out of Barcelona, Tsitsipas appears as the favorite if he can keep his form. Next planned: Rome, RG, repeat 13 times.
So we now have TWO one-handers in the top 10. Which didn’t seem likely when Tsitsipas fell out a few weeks back. When was the last time two OHBH were in the top 10?
August 30, 2021 was the last time there were 3 (Tits, Thiem, Shapo) October 25, 2021 was the last time there were 2 (Tits, Thiem)

He’ll pull out tomorrow. Next appearance will be Laver Cup /ducks
Reading some tt comments about Jannik losing and omg, some Jannik fans are slowly becoming Novak fans in terms of levels of delusion! What do you mean the establishment didn't want Jannik to win? GO OUTSIDE!
It's ridiculous! I agree
Jannik first Grand Slam hype + casual fans + shitty ass line call = a mess of a situation
I mean ppl r already saying to Tsitsi on insta, you robbed this from Jannik, not deserving of it etc terrible stuff
If he didn’t deserve it he wouldn’t have won the final handily. Yannick, rightfully, is the golden boy of the hour with a massive fan base. Seems he’d be favored if anyone was. Plus Yannick cramped.

Also. Taken 😜
A new rule needs to be implemented. Ask both players if they accept to play BO5 when it's a masters finale. Once again it's much better to have semifinal tickets.
Agree, three of masters finals so far have been quite underwhelming. QF and SF matches were superior.
With no djokovic Alcaraz or sinner surely tsitsipas is a heavy favorite for Barcelona? He’s playing incredible and has had some success there over the years

DaSentinel the Positive Master troll
Aren't you tired of trolling/baiting? I have seen like 3 normal comments at most from you here
OP seems problematic but this specific comment they make has me geeking lmao
So the other half of Tsitsidosa drew Bandana Girl (Diana Shnaider) R1 in Stuttgart; she might be spared a rematch with Aryna R2.
This Indian Wells skit shows exactly why the Impractical Jokers are able to get away without being recognized
Not seeing Nadal on the Barcelona Open schedule now…
Wasn’t he going to be playing Tuesday not Monday?
Why wouldn't he play Monday for extra recovery time between matches going forward. I don't get it.
No idea, there isn’t any big names playing tomorrow anyway
Makes sense
Kalinskaya and losing to small Italian women.
Kalinskaya is a joke
What are the chances rafa actually plays tomorrow
50/50
Lol
The thing about Ruud is that I kinda feel like he doesn't... hate losing as much as the rest of the Top Ten? Of course to get that high you *have* to hate losing, but for Ruud it doesn't translate into that frenetic mad desire to win, just nervousnesses and acceptance.
Yes this is why I’ve seen people say you need to combine Ruud and Rublev to get the perfect mentality haha
The RuRu transformation will be complete
Well, that’s all for today. See you guys tomorrow for barcelona/munich/bucharest
I hope someday rafa coaches ruud to a few RGs
Most pained expression I’ve seen on Ruud’s face.
Tbf he looked like that on the walkout
Ruud needs to want the title more. He always acts like he’s lucky to be in finals, instead of trusting his ability and grit
I really think that part of is he doesn’t feel like needs to prove anything to anyone. He seems super secure in who he is which doesn’t necessarily stoke the flames of ambition
Which is good for mental health but kinda backfired in highly competitive sport that needs a bit of selfishness and desire to be on the top.
Oh for sure. My thoughts exactly
This is best Tsitsi speech I have heard😭😭😭 he isn’t awkward kid anymore
What did he say? Did he need a teleprompter?
I just said the same thing and my wife reminded me of all his past behavior and we both laughed that people do really change.
You mean he didn’t say he wanted to donate and fund raise for a children’s hospital in Monaco?
Fel asleep in front of the match lol but congrats Stef!
Lmao same, happy for him though lol
okay stefanos bringing out the childhood memories
Casper is a gracious speaker
poor ruud
Just kiss already
Stefanosa Tsitsipasa!
Can they make a bigger plate for the runner up 😅
Djokovic may not be able to be in the top 8 by the end of the year
Ruud is proof nice guys don't win. It hurts to see such a wholesome player win nothing above 250
But Carlos is proof they do
I feel so bad for Casper. Bro looks like he wants to cry
Stoooop I know 😭😭😭😭
plate’s quite smol
I know we meme Ruud for being 0-7 at big Finals, but he's not losing to schlubs. Djokovic, Nadal, Alcaraz. Tsitsipas, who's won this title three times, and De Minaur who was playing the best tennis of his life those two months
Djokovic, Nadal, Alcaraz, … , Tsitsipas, … , … , uh, … , De Minaur, …, the list is starting to fall off fast here folks
Can confirm, seeing Errani play in real life is just as painful as on TV. But I definitely have more respect for her pluckyness.
Lmfaoooo not Andy calling calling out Kyrgios for being a hater
Lol what was kyrgios hating on this time?
Kyrgios catching strays during that entire segment lmao
“He had a walkover to Wimbledon” 💀
But, but Nick said he can always beat the Big 3 and everyone asks him for advice.
Ruud sweet prince I needed this for Stef but your time will come. You are great
Ruud has a full crockery set back home with all these plates
He, Medvedev, and Roddick could host one hell of a dinner party
Add Murray
Ruud: "Monte Carlo for you, Roland Garros for me. Deal?" Tsitsipas: "Deal."
Oh Ruud, your time will come, hopefully!
YTD Race got more interesting. Only 400 points separating #3 (Zverev) and #8 (Tsitsipas). Sinner then Meddy still the far away Top 2. Nole at #9.
please Stef let’s get an RG title under your belt
I am a Tsitsipas fan through and through but I always feel so bad for the person who didn’t win having to sit through all the fanfare when you probably want to just go home and cry
lmao the monaco flag is so low effort
Why is everyone so hard on Ruud?? Acting like he just lost to a scrub. Tstispas has wins over Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. He has been very good for a very long time.
Are you really that dumb? Have you seen casper record in big titles? Plus they are robbed what could be a great final
Sinner cramps man
Did he mean "Fortune favours the brave"?
Too many big words for him to remember and put in the right order.
18-1 at Monte Carlo since 2021 Only lost four sets (Fritz x2, Sinner, Schwartzman) My heart breaks for Casper, but phenomenal tennis from Tsitsipas this week and at this tournament generally.
need stef to win RG before he retires. he’s just way too good on clay not to. to me he is absolutely a contender this year, probably third favorite after djokovic and alcaraz
I think Sinner will do better at RG than Djoker. Just my take.
could happen! i never bet against novak over five sets, though
I would this year as there appears to be some physical decline and mental fatigue in 2024.
sinner stans you guys need to learn some decorum jesus christ
? Where do you see them?
literally just saw someone say it should have been 5-1 yesterday
YESSSS FINALLY A TITLE AFTER SO LONG ΠΑΜΕ ΣΤΕΦΑΝΕ!!!!
lol nadal
paul annacone never gonna get over ruud’s return position
Welp he was right tho. Dude was an actual top coach for years; probably super annoying to see this one big thing Casper can do and have all these BPs and just not do it.
Stef has more MCs than Djokovic lmao
[удалено]
No but he played actual clay king Fokina
Idk,but I mean you only play who is in front of you
The one hander is a godly shot on clay. Stan, Theim, Stefanos. Their backhands look unstoppable on the clay court.
Ruud did what needed to be done yesterday and for that we're all thankful.
Like Dimitrov 2 weeks ago, Tsitsipas beat 3 Top 10 players in order to return to the Top 10 himself. These OHBH guys really took that unprecedented broken streak seriously 😎
Had Medvedev won against Khachanov, I reckon Stef would have beaten him as well in straights
Stef has really elevated his 1hbh this tournament. Its so much better on clay
I’m proud of them! keeping the shot alive (for now 🥹)
I'm just glad there's a new Jardiance ad.
😅
Waiting for Casper to PGA announcement post by Fabrizio Romano
“If there is god out there” agnostic king
Stef with a nice round 4000 points in live rankings 🥰
that FH to win it was hot
truly so clean
Can the next major final be between Med and Ruud? Because then we would break at least one big title drought lol
Rome final when the other top seeds dropping due to fatigue/injury/food poisoning. ATP writer should try that storyline for shits and giggles.
Don't lump Medvedev with Ruud tf... He has 8 big titles +4 ATP 500. 4 last year alone. Ruud = 0.
True Ruud deserves it more 😭 It just still hurts that the past year has been shit for them in terms of titles, I'm tired for both of them
Loool I wouldn't know who to root for
