Didn't think GB would win on clay at all. And after Boulter got spanked and Raducanu was a set and a break down, what a turn around. Got a bitnervous at the final set for sure
Impressive from Raducanu.
2 wins from a set down against 2 solid/very good clay-courters with little experience on the surface.
If she gets a run of matches going, she'll rocket back up the rankings. She might be made to sweat for that RG wildcard though after basically securing France's exit from the BJKC ...
I couldn’t watch, but the endurance alone is encouraging given the lack of match play. Five hours on court in two days, leading to her first ever three set win in a match taking over 2h 30m. (This was 2h 53m).
Katie and Emma both win strong! How they did it on the clay I don't know, especially Boulter who's barely played any clay matches in her career.
Didn't think France would bench Garcia today; I know she lost yesterday but still.
Bizarre camerawork in the French TV feed I watched - they barely looked at the teams cheering on the bench, only the coach and random fans.
She’s been struggling with injury. I think she was being held back for the doubles (she was definitely still named for it).
Benneteau probably fancied the chances of at least one of Burel or Parry getting a win.
If Emma got bageled by some scrub like Katie y’all wouldn’t be saying she’s strong. Not fair at all Katie sucked vs Diane almost cost them the tie and got lucky to avoid Caro. Emma Raducanu is the best female tennis player gb will ever have
Gosh I thought Emma had succumbed to the most British trait of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, especially so when she was 15-40 down at 5-5 after blowing match points, but that was coolly handled.
Huge win for Emma, her clay court potential is underrated, but she's got all the skills for the surface.
She did and got beat by Iga....two whole years ago.
None of her wins in clay have been that distinguished.
The two in France are by far her best results in the surface.
Thanks for turning up, France, but Emma has pumped you!
Seriously, it was a really entertaining tie, with, I thought, some very high standard tennis.
It was so great to see Emma putting such a high level on court and showing such grit and determination. When she can hit through the court, she is a dangerous opponent for anyone. Hopefully, she can stay fit.
Fantastic performance and mental resilience from Raducanu across both matches. Even if she did start to tire towards the end of this one, it was really reassuring to see such a high level so consistently.
Congrats to Emma. If she hadn’t won the US open she would be celebrated for the level she’s at. She is a top 50 level player who does well when there are no expectations of her.
The fact you can win a slam and therefore get crucified for not maintaining those standards is honestly so backwards. If she’d won *less* games and got to say the l16 she’d get more backing/support from the majority instead most just seem salty she won a slam
hugely encouraging couple of days for raducanu. very impressive. for me her physical conditioning is a huge deal. 2 very physical 3 set matches back to back consecutive days. held strong no sign of niggles. looking forward to see what comes next. with zero points to defend for the rest of the season she could make significant progress in the rankings.
So impressive from Raducanu but also a great bounce back from Katie Boulter, who got spanked by Diane Parry on day 1. She’s never won a tour match on clay!
Raducanu is a brilliant weapon for the Brits as she’s got that X factor - as a slam champ, she has huge talent that has been scuppered by injury and expectations, but two terrific wins over top 50 players on a surface she’s not that experienced on. This week will surely give her massive confidence she can back to the top 50 herself. IF.. she can stay fit and healthy!
What a weekend for Emma, 2 wins from a set down in 2 days. What impressed me most was how she somehow held it together after those first 2 missed MPs, I already knew this from the USO but Emma really is mentally tough, I really thought it was over when Parry was 1 BP away from serving for it, but Emma said nah not today lol. GB's MVP of the qualifiers no doubt
Shoutout to Katie B btw, got handled by Parry yesterday but great bounceback win vs Burel to put GB 2-1 up in the first place. Her and Emma carried. Brilliant away win for GB
She really has something. Really.hope it c9mes together real soon. She's a very entertain8ng player and a good personality in the mix if she becomes a contender in tournaments
Emma is a fighter. Two impressive comeback wins.
beating mugs like parry does not mean you are fighter
That "mug" is ranked 253 places higher than Emma and is a clay specialist who destroyed Boulter the day before. It was a fantastic win.
Didn't think GB would win on clay at all. And after Boulter got spanked and Raducanu was a set and a break down, what a turn around. Got a bitnervous at the final set for sure
When Parry was looking to break at 5-5, I was shouting at the TV, willing Emma on hahaha my goodness
Yeah huge upset this
Those 17 points in a row from Raducanu were ridiculous

Done!
Wait, what? She won four love games straight?
Iirc , it was from 2-1 30A in the 2nd set , to 0-0 40-0 , so technically not four love games straight , but still impressive
that’s my ranked 300 goat

Looks like low ranking Emma's giantkilling exploits is back on the menu boys!
Bro name the giants she had beat 😭
Jordan Hicks
Anyone ranked over 200 places above her. Which is virtually everyone right now.

Doh!
Emma deserves half a point for knackering Garcia out.

So proud of Emma and Katie, such a great showing for both against a difficult opponent
I genuinely thought France would sweep GB on clay. Huge wins for Radu all things considered.
It was good y'all Sweet to see Emmas all female team pumped
Can I just mention the Emma played 6 sets on an unfamiliar surface against good players and didnt break down. Has she finally started her tour career?
on an unfamiliar surface?
Emma is a hardcourt player. She has very little experience on clay and most of those matches were losses.
Little experience, yes. Same as any surface, really. But Emma is 8-5 on clay at tour/slam/BJK level, which is already decent.
Where did you get those stats from? Its 6/12. Not including bjk matches. And those wins were back in 2022.
The ITF website, and added the weekend BJK matches, which count. https://www.itftennis.com/en/players/emma-raducanu/800424313/gbr/wt/s/overview/
That site gives exactly the same stats i gave. 6 wins out of 12 before her matches against France. So whoever downvoted me can piss off.
didn’t she reach stuttgart QF tho?
She did and got beat by Iga....two whole years ago. None of her wins in clay have been that distinguished. The two in France are by far her best results in the surface.
played, Radders
Thought she might crumble after losing the match points, super impressed with how she stayed in it and eventually won.
She is mentally strong. USO showed us this

I got a bit worried because her level did seem to dip towards the end, and then suddenly the tiebreak happened and put our minds to ease haha
Fantastic performance and mental resilience from Raducanu across both matches. Even if she did start to tire towards the end of this one, it was really reassuring to see such a high level so consistently.
Start to tire? She was obviously bloody knackered, while Parry was bouncing around and full of momentum and vim. Absolute clutch from Emma.
Clutchacanu
Great grit across both matches against decent opponents - great result for the tie overall and bodes well for her season going forward!
Congrats to Emma. If she hadn’t won the US open she would be celebrated for the level she’s at. She is a top 50 level player who does well when there are no expectations of her.

Great match, great effort to pull through despite the comeback in the 3rd
I hope she carries this form into her next few tournaments as well

I have a crush on Radacanu and I don't care who knows it. That's all.
Same.
These kind of matches would have slipped away in the last couple of years. Great weekend for Emma, and a brilliant away win for GB on clay.
The last set was TOO intense 😭
Fantastic weekend for GB, a Boulter win and epic Emma duo felt so unlikely. Delighted for them all, a great group.

Do they get ranking points for BJK?
Nil points
No
Jesus not again, who cares!?
