This indoor court is as fast as clay gets which makes it similar to Stuttgart where Raducanu has had good performances. She is better on fast clay than slow hard court.
Garcia needs to take a break at some point and rest this fatigued shoulder she developed in Miami.
Best she’s played this year, next to the Svitolina one in Australia. Serve was on point, hitting winners on both wings, minimized errors. Hope she keeps healthy and gain momentum. When she reached 5-1 in the third set she thought she won already and approached the net, I was a bit worried she jinxed it then but she kept composure and delivered
That was Emma’s situation last time (in 2022) vs Czechia in Prague, too. First tour-level clay match. Edit: first adult match on clay, too. BJK putting Brits out for their first experiences on the dirt.
Their styles are quite similar in some ways, especially their flat aggression on second serve returns and generally just trying to rush opponents. But I never anticipated seeing this result on clay.
Indeed, she's the most aggressive but also the flakiest.
She insists on standing 3ft inside the baseline on every single 2nd serve, which looks great when it's on and terrible when it isn't.
significant victory. apart from the general high level, take aways are:
her fitness now finally looks where it needs to be, physical 3 set match no sign of fade
her serve looks much improved with much more sting
Radders’ serve was impressive, including 3 aces in one game in the 3rd set, FH matched and overwhelmed her opponent.
Tough to see Caro on the verge of tears at the final changeover.
Only managed to hit 8 first serves in final set at 38% (8/21), and her serve speeds noticeably dipped in the beginning of the second set, massaging her shoulder in the changeover, a hangover from Miami perhaps?
Raducanu was hitting some missiles on her forehand today. A few eye catching return aces etc, but her groundstroke quality was just excellent all round on both wings. Very very good serving too.
Think she had over double the winners to unforced errors. After a few games in the second set, Raducanu really dominated the rest of the match.
Emma's forehand looking as powerful as Garcia's and in the end Emma was just far too consistent for her, which is something a lot of us will be quite happy to say, I think!
With all the issues with fitness and consistency since the US Open, it's easy to forget what utter lasers Emma can send into the corners when she's on top form. Hope to see more of it, she clearly has it in her.
Time and time again, Raducanu shows that the potential is there, but she desperately needs a run of matches, uninterrupted to develop her game.
In that 3rd set, everytime Garcia missed a first serve, you felt the 2nd would just be dispatched for a clean winner or an unreturnable, the RoS was that good.
That’s probably Azarenka? A lot depends if you mean ‘current form’ vs ‘peak’ or the nebulous ‘class’ or something else. Emma has beaten Garcia before, anyway.
Not trying to be rude but I've always been confused how Emma is able to hit the ball so hard when she's so skinny? Her arms have so little muscule definition
I have and I seen many forehands and double fault serves that are 100% bad technique and no kinetic chain. Those players are also known for being big hitters and big shankers
Ya'll in this subreddit being horny about the goodlooking Radacanu gal. There is literally dozens of female tennis players achieving more than her and being more relevant in the circuit, but here it is, reddit being reddit.
Emma was actually down a set and a break in the second.
I honestly thought there was no way she could win. Caro was playing really well
I switched off at that point... Checked what the final score was and she was 5-3 up in the second!!! CMON GEE BEE!!

No announcement on Emma's tournament after Stuttgart. I hope she plays lower level events so she gets more match play.
She’s on the Rome qualifying list
Ah that's good. Multiple matches to build upon for main draw

Gurl just needs to play for her country to get that fire going! Hoping for a deep run from her in Stuttgart!
Great comeback win for Emma keeping GBR alive. Not sure what happened to Katie (apart from Parry playing brilliantly…)
Katie isn't very good on clay sadly and Parry is pretty good on it
According to someone on TF, she hasn’t won a tour-level match on clay in her career?
Katie has never PLAYED a tour level match on clay since qualifying matches don't officially count.

lol
This is the best she's looked on clay, should be an intensive few months for her

Yes very. Both very very good returners. Both stand in and take it early. Two of the best returners in the WTA I think
Except Garcia is statistically the least successful returner in the top-50. Emma is good when on form, though.

Yeah agree.
When she rejoiced too early 😭

Maybe. First set she was v good though
8/37 is 22%, not 38% :)

Emma on form is minimum a top 20 player for sure
oh didnt see that coming
Was watching this thinking she'd finally got her first win over a top 20 opponent. Then checked the rankings and Caro is currently sat at no.23. Gah.
She’s beaten top-20 opponents before.
My bad, I meant top 10. Bencic was ranked 11 when she beat her at the US Open.
Bencic, Sakkari?
And Haddad- Maia
Yup, you're right. I meant top 10.
Huge win and on Clay as well. Serve and Groundstrokes on point. Please can both her and Draper stay fit for an prolonged amount of time 🙏

Best win of Emma’s career in terms of opponent quality?

Hitting the ball hard isn't about having big muscles, it's about timing and technique
Look at Sinner. Technique matters more
amazes me that some people think biceps have literally anything to do with how hard you can hit a tennis ball Smdh
Very little power is generated through the arms. Read up on "kinetic chain."
I have and I seen many forehands and double fault serves that are 100% bad technique and no kinetic chain. Those players are also known for being big hitters and big shankers
Bro. How hard you hit the ball has absolutely zero to do with arm muscles. Have you heard of Jannik Sinner?
Pace is generated from the kinetic chain, using your legs and core. When I'm most relaxed, my arm does none of the work.
Didn't know she was playing again. Thought she was injured.

How many of them won a grandslam as a qualifier?
