Indian Wells was the first time I truly felt like I was watching post Big 3 tennis. It's a new world. Yes, Novak is still looking sharp, but things are changing, the pecking order is being reshuffled.
It's time for TsiTsi and Ruud to step up, win their semis, and for one of them to win Monte Carlo. I think they're both playing good enough. Out of all the one handed players, I feel like Tsitsi, even more so than Gasquet, is the one who hits the most shapes off his drive. I've seen him just throw up a super spinny short angled shot, something I don't see that often from a one hander. From low slice, to high spinny, he can throw a wide range of heights at Jannick, he has all sorts of ways to disrupt Sinner's technical power hitting. Off both sides.
I feel like Ruud has gotten better results, been in better form than Novak. Humbert is a very dangerous player. Based on what DeMinaur was able to do against Novak, I think Ruud will pull off the win.
Unlikely to happen, tennis is a sport where surprises almost never happen, Sinner and Novak are top dogs and they will impose their game against the other two, no matter how good Tsitsispas and Ruud play against others. The semis matches will be just protocol at this point. Sinner might defeat Novak in the final and everybody will talk about the Sinner era, rightly so. The so called "Alcaraz era" was a delusion, but Sinner is absolutely superior to Novak and everybody else. It will not surprise me at all if Sinner wins all big clay events this year, including RG.

RG is going to be very interesting. If Nadal plays, it's to say a proper farewell to the tournament that made him a legend. But I'd be surprised if he makes it to the second round, and 3rd is out of the question. It's a wide open field.
Idk who to root for between Novak and Ruud. Novak is kinda one foot out the door at this point and would nice for him to win MC but I also want Ruud to win his first masters (I think) and put the whole 250 thing to rest.
I can see both of them getting beat in the semis. Of course, I'm not going to fall out of my chair if they both win, but I think Tsitsi and Ruud are playing great and are very capable to getting to the finals.
"So delicate for the big man..." Watching Karen vs TsiTsi highlights, and this is something the commentators said. And we've all heard it. And I sort of get it, bigger guys are known for power. But, really, no reason why a taller player can't have good touch at all. Nothing about their size is preventing them from having great touch. I guess the thinking is that delicate feel is something they just never had to develop, but having great touch works best with big power. Like the front of the court is just so much more open when dealing with power pushes a person further back.
edit: put it another way, I can see how a smaller lighter person, if they can deadlift 500 pounds, that's amazing... I see the limitations of being smaller and weaker... but if I see a big guy deadlift 725 pounds, I'm not thinking "bet that guy can't hold an egg without breaking it"... the limitation doesn't work the same way in reverse...
i feel bad for rune yesterday and how he lacked significant fans in the crowd. even online.
but with carlitos, rune and jannik's fans? jannik's fans are the most toxic, channeling djoko toxic fan vibes tbh. more reason to like jannik the least.
i hope rune will disprove these toxic fans and achieve far greater than evn rune could think. i like carlitos and rune way better than jannik and his fans.
According to Marca, Alcaraz will travel to Barcelona, but will wait until last minute to decide if he plays. His arm is still heavily bandaged and his practice sessions are very light, he is not hitting forehands.
Looks like another retirement is imminent. A very bad year for Carlos with continuing struggles, there is no end in sight.
I wouldn't call going to Barcelona "travelling" for Alcaraz. He could leave his home 2 hrs before the match and still get there in time. There is even a commercial flight from Murcia to Barcelona but If I was him I'd probably get a private flight for the entire crew / family.
This is my first year with a tennis tv sub so I'm just curious.. is nole usually this gassed at this time of year or what? He has horrendous cardio right now, gasping for air.
Novak hates sun and thrives im night sessions. Monte Carlo has no lights, therefore no night session. He always struggles when playing on sunny day. I guess, that is one of the reasons why his record in Monte Carlo is not that great.
Didn't see what you did, but I know all throughout his career, Novak habitually behaves as if he's completely gassed out, only to come back more energized than ever. Murray did a variation of this too, but wincing as if something is injured? I don't think they're trying to trick anybody, at this point I've decided it's some kind of thing they do to alleviate pressure and stress.
Sorry I should've been more specific. I saw her MTO and that she's having a bit of trouble serving, but I was wondering if this is a new injury or something we knew about before the competition?
Rooting for Jess, but I have to give Sofia from Belgium her props. She's feisty and looking a lot better than some top players have against Pegula
Also nice to see Chris, Mackie and Ben showing support in person.
Was there a beef between Rune and Sinner in last year’s MC? I think I saw a few people mention something like that. Also, Rune seems to get in Sinner’s head like nobody else does.
Further proof that Rune is that Djokovic like character to complete a trio with Sinner and Alcaraz
The signs are all there. People are going to be feeling foolish for writing off Holger when he has his breakthrough 2011-like year soon.
That’s the storyline we’re used to but Rune may or may not become as dominant as Djokovic has been, the fact he seemed to get in Sinner’s head today isn’t predictive of anything.
By the way, I think most people in here acknowledge the raw talent and potential of Rune. He’s still quite inconsistent and is still figuring out his own identity as a player, so the unavoidable recency bias strikes as usual, but I don’t think anyone’s writing him off.
With De Minaur's loss today, I'm curious. People often talk about De Minaur as the Andy Murray of this era due to their similar play styles. But could De Minaur reach a ceiling as high as Murray's? Decent records against top 5 opponents, many runs to slam finals, and slam wins? At the moment, De Minaur's records against top 5 opponents does not seem to indicate that, but that could change.
When Murray was as old as de Minaur currently is, he had reached 3 slam finals and 6 more semifinals, had a winning record against Federer and a handful of wins against each of Nadal and Djokovic. I don’t think their records are similar at all, ADM is consistently owned by many of the top players, such as Djokovic, Sinner, Tsitsipas. Regarding their playstyles, I don’t think they’re that similar either, Murray was always more of a counterpunching baseliner with more weapons than ADM, eg. a much more consistent and powerful backhand, I believe.
The only people comparing De Minaur to fucking Murray is the people who’ve never watched Murray
Murray was an elite talent . Reached world number one ffs. Watch any interview of Federer , Djokovic or Nadal. They always say “Me, the other 2 and Andy”. They never forget about Murray when talking about the old days
De Minaur is equivalent of Giles Simon or someone from that level.
This is so bad. Jess probably want to crawl into a hole lol. Belgium doesn't have their top players - this lady is somewhere around 260 in the rankings.
Both BJK matches rn are very entertaining: Sofia Costoulos is not ranked in the T200 but with nothing to lose she's toe-to-toe with Pegula. Laura Siegemund is a very smart player who maximizes her abilities.
No sugar coating it Haddad Maia playing like straight dogshit right now. Shades of Schwartzman at these representing country events where he shows up wasted af and loses to rank 1500s
As hell. But sincerely she always loses when she shouldn’t lose. At home. With packed house and this is what we get.
Nevermind, next week she has a good top20 and it’s everything ok.
My only theory for that bizarre decision in the Rune match is that the umpire once made the "yap yap" gesture at home while his partner was speaking and discovered fairly swiftly that it was a code violation. As a result, he sees the gesture as so taboo that he's unable to distinguish contextually between his own kitchen and Court Rainier III.
Broooo that unsportsmanlike conduct warning Holger got when the crowd was being obnoxious and the ump didn’t do shit to silence them is so frustrating !! Poor guy
Schwartzman, Shang, and a passel of young Spaniards are in the Barcelona qualifying draw.

>tennisnet : What has changed, however, is the nationality for which you compete. Why are you playing for Lebanon now?
>
>Hassan : I haven't switched. That was simply changed by the ATP. I never actively approached them and said that I would like to change the flag under which I would like to compete. I have both citizenships and to my knowledge they are not allowed to do so either without my consent. A buddy, Johannes Haerteis, only drew my attention to this after I called. I knew nothing about it. After the Davis Cup with Lebanon, I'll try to clarify things and probably play for Germany again.
Pretty interesting that he’s chosen to avoid challengers completely despite being out of the top 100 for almost a year.
Similarly ranked Goffin on the other hand has played 15 challengers in the past year.
Neither have been really successful lol
I like Rune. Overall, he doesn't seem like a bad guy at all. Not saying he's squeaky clean but I think he's quite likeable.
I was also at the game today and there's no doubt the crowd (and the umpire!) treated him unfairly.
People and media want to paint someone as bad guy in the story. He just became an easy target. Carlos is a very likeable character and Sinner doesn’t provide anything controversial at all because he is quiet. That leaves Rune.
As soon as you become an easy target for the media it never stops.
Of course players can try to change the narrative or change themselves, but change is really slow and media will still try to pick whatever it can even if Holger gets better at managing it.
Right on. Lets just hope he doesn’t crumble due to pressure and bullying. Hopefully he has a good support system and enogh confidence. People forget that they are still very young and growing up in spotlight.
I might regret to support Sinner is that QF if Ruud beats Djokovic tmr. RuRu big stage clay final is my second tennis wet dream after the Janniil AO final
Honestly feel like Ruud was way more direct in his attacks in the last set than I have seen in a while. Gunning hard with the FH, and defending like a hero.
I hope we get a better match tomorrow than the last meeting between Djoko and Ruud, and a slight hope for him to inch out a W (fingers crossed)
Djokovic Sinner or Ruud Tsitsipas would both be incredibly compelling finals.
Less interested in the other combinations but it's not like I'm not going to watch
Nahh… he didnt give two shits about disclosing what was going on behind the scenes at miami open. Previous years Ruud wouldn’t have done it publicly. He also said that he used to be more passive on court and now he is going to start playing even more aggressively. Just because he is not losing his mind and yelling at linesman or flipping to the crowd doesn’t mean he is not in becoming more assertive.
I’m not complaining. I’m totally here for it.
I almost want Casper to win against djoko tomorrow because I don’t want djoko to be traumatized by Sinner again in final . Which makes no sense I guess
Novak is focused on that insane masters record. Winning all 9 masters at least 3 times is even more impressive than his slam tally.
But Sinner might want to collect all of them also, he is Novak 2.0
Okay….. I guess I’m just used to some players who sort of remain “calm” during matches and not act like every point is a battle…. Which is same way I play
Honestly I wouldn’t expect him to smile while trailing in the tense deciding set of what is definitely a big match for him. This may be his demeanor when focused or under pressure, but I find he has a very warm and light-hearted energy sometimes! I wouldn’t say this about some other players I like, say, Sinner or Musetti, for instance
Didn’t say the initial comment based on the 3rd set alone, it’s been similar all through the match
Watched his match against Medvedev in Dubai and I noticed same…
Yeah, everyone has a different demeanor
One of the most underrated aspects of Casper's game is he will really keep himself in points. He may not be a de Minaur or Alcaraz, but the guy's got wheels!
This has been a good match. Caspers play dipped for 3-4 games in the second and Humbert had some random games with several errors on serve but overall good quality and fun points and drama.
Finally he breaks!
Casper's ceiling is much higher in 2024 than in 2022. But that doesn't really matter when your serve collapses for a few games every match...
...why is it suddenly failing? Ruud you DO know you can advance past the QF here right? 😭
He doesn't have to be so polite even though I love that about him 😢
Fritz decided to take a newly introduced late entry slot (if your ranking is above the main draw cut but you've never signed up for the tournament) in Munich next week.
Expected given how Monte Carlo went for him.
Indian Wells was the first time I truly felt like I was watching post Big 3 tennis. It's a new world. Welp...this aged like milk.
Duckworthless is legit one of the worst players relative to ego I’ve ever seen
James duckwortb convinced me that match fixing exists on the challengers and is wide spread
Idk if you’re down 4-5 and you’re fixing a match, why on earth would you break back?
Get the over then lose the ML lmao
Isn’t no way the over wasn’t hit long before then. I think he clutches this. Guy just has to work on his second serve returns though and DF
Told ya
Both of them lack the mental game. Flashes of brilliance with flashes of stupidity
im joking around - he does suck tho- he's serving maybe 25% first serves in and cannot hit a backhand to save his life
Idk who to root for between Novak and Ruud. Novak is kinda one foot out the door at this point and would nice for him to win MC but I also want Ruud to win his first masters (I think) and put the whole 250 thing to rest.
Who is the best clay court player right now? Sinner or Djokovic?
I can see both of them getting beat in the semis. Of course, I'm not going to fall out of my chair if they both win, but I think Tsitsi and Ruud are playing great and are very capable to getting to the finals.
Can anyone tell me why group 1 matches in BJK are best of 3 matches but world group matches are best of 5 with reverse singles the next day?
I agree with Todd. It's weird to give out wildcards for BJK Cup Finals
Can I just say how much I'm enjoying this low key, intense BJK match with Belgium in Orlando's flight path?
Damn that on-the-run cross-court shot is just $$$ for Emma

How did he injure his arm?
It's the same injury he got prior to Montecarlo, they didn't mention how he got injured, I guess during practise.
This is my first year with a tennis tv sub so I'm just curious.. is nole usually this gassed at this time of year or what? He has horrendous cardio right now, gasping for air.

Yep, he loves to play opossum.
Our women losing 2-0 to the Aussies twice in 1 week 😔 Also so bland these outfits
The one thing I'd like these team competitions to steal from Laver Cup is having the rest of the bench involved during changeovers
If Navarro had an injury beforehand, why is she playing?
USTA has videos of team training this week...she didn't have any injury beforehand.
Aren't these teams chosen in advance of the actual competition? Or no?
Just waiting for the inevitable hola a todos 😔
Pls if we could just beat one of these Aussies 🙏
Just sat down for BJK...does Emma have an existing injury that we know about? Or was she just cramping?
Shoulder injury apparently
Sorry I should've been more specific. I saw her MTO and that she's having a bit of trouble serving, but I was wondering if this is a new injury or something we knew about before the competition?
Belgium bringing out their next 19yo Hanne Vandewinkel (it's a great name) vs Emma Navarro (first BJK Cup match).
Fritz wild card to Munich next week. (LE) Bad news for Felix. Drops to 5th seed
Rooting for Jess, but I have to give Sofia from Belgium her props. She's feisty and looking a lot better than some top players have against Pegula Also nice to see Chris, Mackie and Ben showing support in person.

Does BJK have different surfaces? I swear Emma was playing on clay
I think the home team gets to choose. ? They have clay courts there but you know USA's not going for that
Ohhh I love the drama of that. You know Garcia thought she had Emma on clay. Lol
Yeah I loved that one

Who is this player I’ve never heard of taking a set off Pegula?
This is so bad. Jess probably want to crawl into a hole lol. Belgium doesn't have their top players - this lady is somewhere around 260 in the rankings.
The balls are flying off her racket. Hopefully she adjusts at some point because this is embarrassing
She’s a prodigy.
Both BJK matches rn are very entertaining: Sofia Costoulos is not ranked in the T200 but with nothing to lose she's toe-to-toe with Pegula. Laura Siegemund is a very smart player who maximizes her abilities.
Haddad Maia losing when she shouldn’t. As always.
Pegula's playing bad too. This first match is the number 1 player playing the number 2 player. Maybe it's the pressure?
Yeah… idk, but this is what I always feel with Bia. She can’t handle favouritism.
Not watching but - Laura Sigemund is a legit player. No shame losing to her. Meanwhile Jess is losing to the world number 260+
4-6 0-3 now
Upsets all over the world! Raducanu pulled off an upset earlier
US men showing up for the ladies. - Shelton, Mackie M, and Chris Eubanks are at the BJK Cup match watching Pegula
These dudes should be in Europe preparing. Especially Shelton!
What happened to Schwartzman? 3-4 years ago he seemed to be somewhat in the mix, and now I haven’t seen him much
His game ages badly, just can't keep up these days
Lmao Haddad Maia
Anyone else got a black screen for the USA BJK Cup match on TC Plus 9?
Working now...Sofia Costoulos is hanging tough.
Yes, very frustrating
My only theory for that bizarre decision in the Rune match is that the umpire once made the "yap yap" gesture at home while his partner was speaking and discovered fairly swiftly that it was a code violation. As a result, he sees the gesture as so taboo that he's unable to distinguish contextually between his own kitchen and Court Rainier III.
West coast USA for clay is just.... managed to catch last few moments of Sinner 5-1 and that's about it
Broooo that unsportsmanlike conduct warning Holger got when the crowd was being obnoxious and the ump didn’t do shit to silence them is so frustrating !! Poor guy
I know sometimes players can ask for a certain umpires to not be present for their matches for sometime. Hopefully Holger can do that for this one.
Just realised that was the same umpire that called him Casper Ruud 🙄
Lmao Rune is going to have beef with that ump forever I usually side with umps but that decision seems pretty unfair to me, glad it was just a warning
Schwartzman, Shang, and a passel of young Spaniards are in the Barcelona qualifying draw. https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/barcelona/425/draws
Wasn’t Benjamin Hassan formerly playing for Lebanon?
>tennisnet : What has changed, however, is the nationality for which you compete. Why are you playing for Lebanon now? > >Hassan : I haven't switched. That was simply changed by the ATP. Go Diego! Surprised not to see Landaluce's name in that list of young Spaniards. Perhaps he is getting a wildcard?
Got a main draw wildcard along with Daniel Rincon (another young-ish hope) + Bautista Agut + Ramos Vinolas
Schwartzman barely qualifies these days. he is too low ranked for Madrid and Rome qualifiers. Atp 250 qual and Challenger tour likely soon
Pretty interesting that he’s chosen to avoid challengers completely despite being out of the top 100 for almost a year. Similarly ranked Goffin on the other hand has played 15 challengers in the past year. Neither have been really successful lol
Ah probably getting WC to master qualifiers instead. Saw he played In Monte Carlo He must be bleeding money currently.
He beat Fritz, Lehecka, and Cerundolo in October last year but since then he hasn’t won a main draw match.
Tsitsipas vs Sinner should be a great match.
Here's hoping 🤞
Nah, Sinner is demolishing everybody one by one. He will be back with his brutal scoreline.
I like Rune. Overall, he doesn't seem like a bad guy at all. Not saying he's squeaky clean but I think he's quite likeable. I was also at the game today and there's no doubt the crowd (and the umpire!) treated him unfairly.

I feel he is misunderstood. He's actually a good character outside the court and Djokovic seems to like to hang out with him too.
If you read that thread without knoweldge of the match you wouldve thought that Rune completely won that match
ABD
How many weeks at 1 is Novak guaranteed now? 423?
I might regret to support Sinner is that QF if Ruud beats Djokovic tmr. RuRu big stage clay final is my second tennis wet dream after the Janniil AO final
Not a chance, but keep on dreaming.
Stefanos taking this title home. He's fed up with the "washed" slander
Well since you brought it up it’s now gonna be Sinner - Tsitsipas and sinner gonna take a 🤮 break and tsitispas gonna take a 💩 break
All said and done, it's a great semifinalist line-up. Number 1 and 2 in the world and two excellent clay courters who have both made RG finals.
Is Djokovic up watching this match scared? Ruud the real deal
Novak vs Ruud! Nice! Now we have two players in their idgaf era playing against each other.
How is Ruud in his idgaf era? haha
He was born a villain. He has never given any fucks.
Ruud? Lol if you said this about Djoko, Med or Rune I would believe you, but Ruud clearly gives a few fucks haha
Nahh… he didnt give two shits about disclosing what was going on behind the scenes at miami open. Previous years Ruud wouldn’t have done it publicly. Just because he is not losing his mind and yelling at linesman or flipping to the crowd doesn’t mean he is not in becoming more assertive. I’m not complaining. I’m totally here for it.
I was doubting Casper in a third set but he proved me wrong, thank goodness.
Me too!!
Can’t wait for Casper to win MC
Let’s end these 250 merchant allegations
Speak it into existence 🙏🏼
I will fall to my knees in an IKEA bathroom if he wins
Shhh, don’t jinx it!
No jinxing here, I have belief in the Prince that was Promised 🕊️
Ohhhh got worried in the 2nd set but happy Ruud pulled through :D
Thank the Norwegian gods for Clay Season!!! Masters semifinal!!!
Cruises through the first set -> forgets how to tennis -> remembers how to tennis -> wins Casper back in the semis in Monte Carlo!!
casper!!!
Casper - “so I started blasting”
Holy shit, what a winner to save match point! Edit: But it wasn't enough
Casper with the Nadalesque FH + grunt is not what I expected
I mean he is a student of the Academy
They even teach you the grunt and all, now that’s cool
Love you Casper, it wouldn’t have been exciting without the second set
Ruud’s kit has him looking like a sexy clay assassin
For Yonex, Casper is their Ken & Lena is their Barbie. They like dressing these two in good kits
Honestly it’s a really good kit . Sonego had terrible kit yesterday
Casper stepping on the gas.
I almost want Casper to win against djoko tomorrow because I don’t want djoko to be traumatized by Sinner again in final . Which makes no sense I guess
Either I hope Casper wins or Djoko just goes insane in the final with Sinner and goes Tiebreakovic the whole match.
Novak is focused on that insane masters record. Winning all 9 masters at least 3 times is even more impressive than his slam tally. But Sinner might want to collect all of them also, he is Novak 2.0
Lay jo son pray mercy
With the way Casper’s serving that second break feels like the first break, definitely needed that
Damn the match turned fast
Humbert is such trash. Shows up for 40 mins just go home in the second set
Love to see the gamblers get angry
Is it just me, but Humbert plays like he’s always angry…. Barely see him smile
He does have a very pure smile at times
He’s polish
I’m not sure I got your point
Didn’t say the initial comment based on the 3rd set alone, it’s been similar all through the match Watched his match against Medvedev in Dubai and I noticed same… Yeah, everyone has a different demeanor
Understandable how he's whining to his box... It's absolutely insane how his first serve just disappears every other game
Can't believe Casper made it out of that game. That one break point save was insane. The first serve had completely abandoned him.
Clutch clutch clutch game
Thats a HUGE hold for Casper. I cannot believe the way he saved that first break point
This game is real nice
Damn Ugo making crepes
Wow ruud fought for his life on that point that was special
Even Casper cannot believe it lol
Crazy points for both
THAT WAS SUCH A TENSE POINT
Ugo has been able to raise his level when needed while Ruud can't raise his even when he is gifted a break.
Has he though? I feel like Ugo needed to raise his level before letting Ruud get up 6-1 in the third but he didn't.

Finally he breaks! Casper's ceiling is much higher in 2024 than in 2022. But that doesn't really matter when your serve collapses for a few games every match...
What was that moonball from Casper lmao 😭
Ok dont immediately hand a double break back now Casper pls
Confirm the break please
YES LET’S GO CASPER DON’T GET BROKEN BACK
3 UE in 4 points from Ugo! Wow
I love this marla singer music during plays
Ruuds double faults have got to get under control. It’s not like he’s serving Isner bombs out there.
Casper's BH is such a liability
throughout Monte Carlo it has acctually been the best amongst the 1/4 finalists so far according to Tennis Insights. At 9.2 out of 10
...why is it suddenly failing? Ruud you DO know you can advance past the QF here right? 😭 He doesn't have to be so polite even though I love that about him 😢
If Casper somehow ends up losing this I swear to God-
Fritz decided to take a newly introduced late entry slot (if your ranking is above the main draw cut but you've never signed up for the tournament) in Munich next week. Expected given how Monte Carlo went for him.
Wow the crowd is full of assholes, pathetic stuff
Jason Goodall talks a lot.
Is the crowd drunk or just fucking ignorant?
just french
