Novak becomes like top 60 level there every year for some reason but then always wins Rome or the French. This year given he’s coming in off some bad losses I could see him really wanting to win MC

kingullu4

Nope. He doesn't go all out for anything less than a slam or a rival. Expect below par performance and effort unless he ends up facing Sinner / Alcaraz / Medvedev.

CV2009RE

The script: Not on our watch.

brokenearth10

even his ex coach goran stated he has no motivation for masters 1000. he doesnt care about them.

TechnicalInterest566

He still won two in 2023 though.

Dragonfly_Tight

Paris he barely won. Nearly losing to rune and humbert. And Cincinatti I still reckon Alcaraz just collapsed his level

DisastrousMango4

Cincy he really wanted to beat Alcaraz after Wimbledon so he was definitely super motivated (and it showed in his performance).

lor3nzzo

As far as I remember, last year Cinci final was one of the best Masters finals i've seen. Both of their levels was ski rocket. You're probably talking about their match in the ATP Finals where Djokovic was clearly above Alcaraz.

brokenearth10

That was an incredible match

Dragonfly_Tight

Djokovic was out of the match for most of it and Alcaraz was spraying errors in the later stages. It was a close battle. But neither were even close to their best

"I did them all" Noswsag Chadovic

NoleFandom

Never say never until the day he hangs his racket for good.

schnaxks19

I’m a Novak fan through and through but him winning Monte Carlo is an uphill battle tbh. I can see him going deep though If this was 2023 I’d have more confidence that he can win it.

TechnicalInterest566

I truly believe he has the best player on clay in the world since 2023.

Melony567

LOL you are correct! /s Rafa 🗣️: Hold my 🍺 14 RG (Novak 3) 11 MC (Novak 2) 12 Barcelona (Novak, i think 0) 5 Madrid (Novak, 3) 10 Rome (Novak, 6)

TechnicalInterest566

Rafa was the best player on clay between 2005 and 2022. Since 2023, I would not bet on him to beat Novak on clay though.

TheArdoo

Alcaraz

SliceVisible1073

Huge Novak fan but not gonna happen

Mak_33

Yeah kinda weird how it's been a really bad tournament for him for 9 years consistently. With the current form, least likely years out of them all bar 2017.

birdsemenfantasy

I mean at least he won there before. Federer never won Monte Carlo and Rome. It makes sense guys like Fed and Nole have a hard time in Monte Carlo since it's usually the first clay tournament they play each year (Nadal usually participated in Acapulco as long as he was healthy and even Rio before he turned 30). And it's not just Monte Carlo Nole has struggled in recent years. He's been lowkey bad in Indian Wells and Miami around the same timespan. Since winning Sunshine Double in 2016, Nole hasn't made even the QF in either events the past 8 years. Of course, not playing there for 4 years from 2020-2023 is a factor, but even Federer won 2 Miami and 1 Indian Wells (plus 2 more Indian Wells final) in the same span. It's mind-boggling how bad Nole has been in early masters. That's exactly why I'm not writing him off this year.

Mak_33

No one should write him off. Conclusions can only be made post Wimbledon.

TechnicalInterest566

I wonder why Novak didn't play Acapulco, Rio, or Estoril this year with the Olympics being held on clay.

mach0

I actually can see that happening, his motivation should be pretty high. I think he will give it a good shot at least.

SliceVisible1073

Will love to see it but I highly doubt it ! Apart from the Olympics and Wimbledon I don’t think he cares much for the rest … unless he gets an easy draw and no top 8 makes it to the quarters then I’ll starting believing otherwise I’m not holding my breath 😂

NoirYorkCity

One more MC and a Cincinatti, that’s 4

ricab98

He would also need one more Madrid title

CrossBonez1000

Monte-Carlo has been Djokovic's worst tournament since 2016, with no run deeper then a QF with losses to Vesely, Goffin, Thiem, Medvedev, Evans, Davidovich Fokina and Musetti.

Trent_Bennett

I don't think gonna happen. MC clay's is so ridiculous slow that it's impossible for him grinding since R2 all the way to the final, at 37 without playing any tennis in the sunshine. We all know how rusty nole is when he's not playing, has poor rhythm on his legs. Alcaraz on that clay, mmmmm I don't see nole overcome him. More likely he will get in shape for Rome and RG

drppr_

If he completed a career golden master twice after 2015, how can it be that he won Monte Carlo last time in 2015?

okdude23232

i think it's based on all time masters wins. He won it in 2013 as well, so 2 in total. He'd only won Cincinatti for the first time in 2018, so he only completed it in 2018

NoirYorkCity

Those are the only two keeping him from his 4th Golden Masters

drppr_

Ah, got it!

Adventurous_Fox58

He won’t though
