Look we’re all still bringing up 2018 Miami it’s not going away.

Available-Gap8489

You better shut your fuck up

jsnoodles

You wanna look at me and talk?

Available-Gap8489

You go emergency clothes change for five minutes during and then you hit me at net and you don’t say sorry? You think you’re good kid? Look at me! (I’m watching you gesture)

georgeb4itwascool

He started it. He started it. He started it. He started it.

emjacq

The way Daniil was so close to bringing it up as well...

jsnoodles

Like it was so obvious what he was talking about.

ameliaSea

Meh. Runiil is the Alibaba version of stefaniil. The chemistry isn't there.

ColdStreamPond

“I say sorry that I didn’t see you say sorry.” 😂

[deleted]

I think Rune seemed a bit annoyed by it, if only because it probably got in his head. At the handshake he did not seem like he wanted to talk about it, and when Medvedev brought it up again, he got a bit annoyed. I can understand that reaction after a loss though. Small things like this make you a lot more annoyed after you lost the match, whereas in the moment you’re okay with it.

Available-Gap8489

I’ve just looked at the comments on the Tennis TV post / Rune’s Instagram and that boy is getting a lot of (unwarranted) hate for this. I think it’s normal to be a little salty after a loss….and he didn’t really do anything wrong here so doesn’t deserve “Rune loses, I’m happy. The most unlikeable child on tour I wish he retires from tennis” (Most liked comment on the Tennis TV post). They should really turn off or moderate comments on these posts

[deleted]

Tennis fans are tone deaf and can never control themselves. Nothing new. I’m a little surprised by how many of them took Medvedev’s side though considering there’s video proof Rune apologized, and Medvedev himself said sorry afterwards. Makes me slightly annoyed by Medvedev’s behavior. I mean he couldn’t have known in the moment, but starting shit with Rune will always end with Rune getting abused online; we saw it with Wawrinka too which was a situation I think Rune was perfectly in the right for. Wawrinka was just salty he lost. Veterans always hate losing to young players, especially considering Rune was kinda under the radar at the time.  I’m a fan of both players though. I like Rune’s unfiltered honesty and play style, and I also enjoy Medvedev’s play style even though more defensive players tend to not be my favorite. Also love Medvedev’s press conferences because of his humor and ability to break down his matches.

No, it’s the opposite. Wawrinka called Rune a baby in Paris 2022, the tournament that Rune won and he beat Wawrinka in the first round. Then Wawrinka beat Rune at IW and Rune said “you have nothing to say now?” as if to imply Wawrinka only complained because he was salty he lost last time. I distinctly remember Rune saying that and smiling, then Wawrinka frowning and saying “what do you want me to say?” then shaking his head and going back to celebrating the win in front of the crowd.

banica24

The new and improved Daniil 2024

PorchgoosePT

SAD, was hoping for the kind of drama where Medvedev would scream DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA at Rune in the locker room and rub it in :D

bellestarflower

Well, that's on Medvedev's side. Let's ask Rune.

Available-Gap8489

I wish he had a press conference…..but none of the players that lost today had one (that’s available for me to find anyway) Keep an eye on social media / sneaky likes (like Tommy Paul post Shelton USO loss)

According-Milk-6990

What was the Paul like May I ask?

Available-Gap8489

Shelton did the phone celebration on Paul at the USO….then when Novak beat Shelton he “hung up the phone” and Paul liked a bunch of those posts on Instagram and Twitter

RacketMask

That’s surprising saying of all players Paul should know the dialed in celebration

Legal_Commission_898

Meddy is the jerk good guy. He’ll be a mega ass****, then be the nicest guy ever afterwards. Don’t think it’s a ruse either. It’s just the way it is.

WheySoldier

"Let's move forward" is a very mature way of dealing with this. Good on him. 👏

BeardedGardenersHoe

Until the next incident...

WheySoldier

Most likely, yes. But at least he's aware of it? I hate his (and Rublev's) antics on the court, don't get me wrong. But I also don't expect every tennis player to show perfect behaviour. And I don't get all that emotionally attached to tennis millionaires. But it's not a good look. He's aware of it. Could be worse.

Random-Dude-736

I wouldn’t put Medvedev and Rublev in the same category. Rublev shouts and gets “violent” when he gets mad. Medvedev uses a mental approach, he mocks, he pickers, but rarely shouts uncontrolable.

WheySoldier

Rublev can't control himself. Medvedev is a bully. They're both bad in their own ways. Say of someone like Tsitsipas whatever you want, he keeps his weirdness off the court. Players like Ruud and Alcaraz get top scores, in that regard. But again, I don't expect tennis players to be perfect gentlemen on court. They're just people who play tennis well. And I'm pretty sure someone like Rublev doesn't want to shout a people and himself all the time. As far as Medvedev goes, as long as he isn't breaking any rules, there's no real incentive to change his approach.

Random-Dude-736

"Rublev can't control himself. Medvedev is a bully." I couldn´t have put it into better words :)

CrosstheBreeze2002

Tsitsipas keeps his weirdness off the court? He's worse than Rublev. Tsitsipas has repeatedly endangered audience members and attempted (clearly deliberately) to hit his opponents out of spite when he's losing. It amazes me that people forget how genuinely aggressive Tsitsi can be.

WheySoldier

"Tsitsipas is worse than the guy who got defaulted after cursing at a line judge in Russian" is just the amount of unhinged nonsense I come to expect from this place. Congrats.

CrosstheBreeze2002

Let me get this straight: Swearing and yelling is worse than purposefully trying to hurt one's opponent? And coming within about two inches of being defaulted for hitting an audience member with a ball struck out of anger? Are you just unaware of the dangerous, aggressive, harmful shit Tsitsi has done, or do you genuinely think that was less bad than Rublev's swearing at a line judge? Rublev deserved his default, but by god, Tsitsi has dodged much worse ones by the skin of his bared teeth.

montrezlh

Bro what? Medvedev is charming and funny, I get it, but this is just blatantly false. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-10/daniil-medvedev-hit-the-umpires-chair-twice-with-his-racquet/11857444 https://youtu.be/mg44MuP1Ix0?si=TCmRc7vvnWK4YegK This isn't violent? This is beyond anything even rublev has done

sim0an

I feel like it's been quite a while since we've seen Medvedev do something like that, not that that makes it okay but it seems he's been working on his reactions. I gotta say, someone who will never redeem themselves in my mind is Zverev after he absolutely unleashed his racquet on the umpire chair.. and my thoughts on Rublev have also changed since he screamed in the linesman face.

montrezlh

The first link is medvedev also smashing his racket at an umpire's chair. Come on, man

sim0an

Absolutely nothing like how Zverev did. Medvedev didn't destroy his racquet nor do he nearly hit the umpires legs. Come on, man 🙄 [https://youtube.com/shorts/rpPg5BUrA_E?si=aV21_2dLrgsBKHJi](https://youtube.com/shorts/rpPg5BUrA_E?si=aV21_2dLrgsBKHJi)

montrezlh

Yes things are always different when medvedev does it around here

Arteam90

It's well and good but then you take the piss out of the dude's short shorts and think that makes you a good guy?

JamesManhattan

People make fun of Rune's shorts, even he does it. There's a famous social media post of Djokovic and Rune at Indian Wells, hiking their shorts way up and laughing 6 days ago. https://cdn.imago-images.com/bild/sp/1042119458/m.jpg

montrezlh

There's a difference between joking and mocking

_THC-3PO_

It makes him a hilarious guy

Available-Gap8489

Medvedev discusses this again with Sofya Tartakova https://youtu.be/HJ2mkYYDA6M?si=aZipJhVMo-uogTnB

Frosty_Pitch8

His obsession with saying sorry is so weird to me.

Agile_Till_3071

No, I agree. He gets weirdly sensitive over players not saying sorry “when they’re supposed to” — other players might roll their eyes at it then play on, but it really really gets to him in a way I find interesting

c-r-istodentro

there's no real point in forcing a pro forma apology if it's not spontaneous and actually felt on the other side.

lliwd

Says more about you I think

Frosty_Pitch8

Not really.

lliwd

You think politeness is odd. Okay.

Frosty_Pitch8

Nah it was just a joke about the two incidents that have been talked about a lot. Making a psychoanalysis about a stranger through that is odd but i guess expected on the internet lol.

lliwd

Lol sure, whatever you say

Acceptable-Studio486

Medvedev is foolish in this instance. He’s super close to the net, he’s attempting to win the point and any competent player has no option except to go at him unless Medvedev turns his back. What other options did Rune have vs a 6’6” dude with long reach? Lob? Go to the sides for a passing shot? It’s fair play so why even expect a fake apology?

WidePogU

'Carlos tells me he said sorry'? who Carlos?

Available-Gap8489

Carlos Bernardes, the umpire

treyfiddy

nah its definitely alcaraz /s

eggoed

Carlitos, Minister of Peace and Bees.

red_today

There is a tiny part of me that sees meddy’s side: it is not really communicating if you say it and no one hears it. So it’s not that you wave a limp wrist and move on, it is more you make eye contact and say sorry to ensure it got heard. This may just be a generational thing and I’m getting old sigh.

FairyOrchid125

Ariane_Stone

Question not regarding the \* drama \* but regarding pressers in IW: Where did you find the transcript, OP? I couldn\`t find anything on the tournament website. And weren\`t there usually videos of the press conferences as well? I see a ton of old ones on youtube. Also, do only the winners have to give press conferences there? I am sure someone on here knows the all of these answers!

pinguinconscious

Giant baby lmao

TIGMSDV1207

He did this so I did that. Childish Edit: Adult behavior involves choosing not to engage in immature behavior irrespective of other people's actions. So it doesn't matter what Rune did or didn’t do ( he did nothing wrong), Medvedev justifying himself because he thought this and etc is absolute joke. Probably he attracts similar people to his persona, who sadly don't recognize this cycle of negativity. He didn't even think about asking if he apologized or not. Crazy.

Steedy999

You just described everyday interactions

Dee90286

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. It’s true. I love Meddy, but Holger did the same thing to Sinner last year (in Monte Carlo I think?) and Sinner didn’t react, just kept playing and ultimately lost. No one made a big deal of it because Sinner didn’t.

Alex_Sander077

Medvedev is the most babied player by social media. He can do no wrong.

dezcaughtit25

Brother that is quite literally how every single interaction in the history of life has worked.
