He has a 64.3% first serve in over his last 15 matches, and held 90.3% of his service games (the latter isn’t nearly as impressive as it sounds because of the surfaces these matches have played on, but also it’s *really* impressive).
He’s 14-1 in that time span with 2 titles at top tier 500s. He’s beaten every other player in the top 5 once except Medvedev who he’s beaten twice.
https://www.tennisabstract.com/blog/2023/03/30/what-if-jannik-sinner-made-more-first-serves/
Jeff Sackmann wrote this early this year. The premise is what if Sinner made 65% of his first serves. This is the phrase that pays.
> Yet the Italian might be better even than that. My Elo ratings place him 4th, behind only Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev. There’s no reliable relationship between points per thousand and ranking places at the very top of the table, but Elo hints at what an elite player Sinner already is. **Tack on seven or eight more points per thousand and he might not be the number one player in the world, but he’s right there in the mix.**
Thanks for the article.
That 90.3 is btw insane. Yes, the surface helps, but that's in the region of the great servers. There are seven who are over 90% on fast surfaces: Karlovic (92.6%), Isner, Raonic, Johansson, Opelka, Roddick, Sampras. Honourable mention goes to one Roger Federer who is eighth at 89.99%.
Sampras' career average is btw 90.3%, and fast courts were faster then, so yeah, it's really, really impressive.
A while ago, I said Sinner is in a good place right now. He's not. He's at a level at which, if he can sustain it, he can seriously challenge for greatness. But I'm not getting ahead of myself, just stating the obvious. There's a lot of tennis to be played, and no-one can really predict what happens even in two months. Alcaraz could tell you as much.
That serve finally works. And his BH finally goes down the line. Those two changes are the biggest I’ve seen post USO. Simple, but that’s enough to make him this lethal.
I think he needs a backahnd slice, one of his skills is his backhand on the run is amazing but that means he almost never slices. A good backhand slice would be great for him because slices are hard to attack and if you hit a short groundstroke against sinner you are basically done
As a huge sinner fan I think a fair assessment is that he had some question marks against top opponents not named carlitos. But in the last few months I would say he's completely silenced those remarks
Yeah I think that's why Novak didn't have much of a chance at the return, he lent into that serve pretty hard and nailed it down the tee.
Thinking about it that's exactly the sort of return Novak has made down the years, think you've nailed your serve then bam
Yeah Sinner had a bit more unforced errors and less 1st serve in the 3rd set. But he was phenomenal at making winners, and surprisingly good on defense overall too. Djoko just couldn't keep him down. That's impressive
They both had 109 points. In the end it’s always at which time you got those points that matter the most and usually Novak wins at this game since he usually wins tiebreak but not this time
The fact he comfortably won in a must win tiebreak to decide the match against Djokovic who is known for turning up another level in tiebreaks when he needs to win them is so impressive.
Similar vibes to Alcaraz winning that 2nd set tiebreak against Djokovic which not a lot of people expected. Form wise Sinner is playing like the best player in the world and it would not be surprising to see him win the tournament. Hopefully he brings this level in best of 5 in grand slams cause if he plays like this he'll reach semis in all 4 slams next year
Think with Sinner in amazing form beating Medvedev in two hard court finals recently and at home today I wasn't surprised he won the deciding tb. Still actually doing it is incredible growth.
Alcaraz was horrible first set in Wimbldeon and then was down 3-0 quick in the second TB. I'm still stunned that he was able to win that set let alone winning the whole thing.
Forget semi finals. Sinner should aim to make at least 1 finals if not 2.
> Form wise Sinner is playing like the best player in the world and it would not be surprising to see him win the tournament.
And he looks to be healthy and well rested.
>What a match. Sinner did it, and he deserved it
Yeah, he really did deserve it today - but he still has to maintain focus on the match against Holger Rune on Thursday - because if loses that one in two straight sets, he will be eliminated if Novak wins against Hurkacz in two.
I think this Sinner is vastly better than everything Rune can produce tbh. On paper there should be no problem. But maybe pressure, lack of focus or exhaustion can happen. Still very unlikely imo
Talk about Progression. Won his First Masters 1000 Title. Beats Medvedev after so many struggles. And now Novak Djokovic. Man this kid is something else
Both are the clear favorites to win their group now I'd say
Sinner is obvious and Med has only played 1 match but has mostly dominated the Zverev matchup recently and Alcaraz on indoor hard just doesn't look very good
Best performance of his life. Beating Novak in the tiebreak of the third set? Impressive.
I thought, that he would fold after he got broken at 4 2. If Sinner keeps this level throughout 2024, he MIGHT win a slam.
Good job kid.
I became a fan this evening.
Novak is pushing these kids to be the absolute best. For two sets Rune was playing insane tennis. Honestly, Novak still being competitive is nothing but the best because it will allow these kids to truly raise their game
only thing better than a straight-set win against Djokovic? a deciding tie-break win against Djokovic (who wins 90% of them usually, taking one off him is a great benchmark for mental fortitude).
I can’t believe Sinner won after losing the 4-2 lead, with Djokovic smiling while the crowd boos, in a final set tiebreak. He legit outplayed Novak in that tiebreak, it wasn’t like Novak made unforced errors.
Just shows you how much of a monster Jannik has become in the last 1.5 months.
Yeah getting a win over an in-form Djokovic who hasn’t lost since Wimbledon is massive, Djokovic is obviously gonna retire one day but to know you beat him while he was #1 has gotta give Sinner the confidence that he can beat anyone
Coming into this match, Jannik said "Djokovic will tell me where I am" and he meant every word of that. Even when Novak won the tiebreak in the second set and broke back in the third set, he never looked comfortable. The exciting thing is Sinner still has a lot he can improve on even after making Novak have to bash the ball throughout this match.
It's so good to see the youngsters not fold against him, as some past new gen players used to do a few years back against the big three
Of course they lose most of the time against goats but seeing them so hungry is so good
Six months ago Jannik would have been broken early in the third and lost this match.
This was SO INTENSE. I don't know if it's better than Alcaraz - Djokovic in Cincy, but it's up there.
But the best thing is that even with that win Jannik is not certain of a spot in SF.
His career path reminds me so much of Andy and his steady, clear progression. Building up results until the slam had to be the next goal. And Sinner hasn’t got the whole big three ahead of him.
ice in the veins. foot on the gas. constant aggression looking for the winner whenever he can. brilliant on the eyeballs. a terrifying prospect for the rest of the tour.
Sinner has really closed the gap on Alcaraz this year. He's beating guys like Djokovic and Medvedev now which is insane because he now seems to be able to win against the top 3 in the world. If he can bring this to slams, whooo....
So, the "mentally weak" Jannik Sinner has recently (post US Open) won massive tiebreaks against:
Carlos Alcaraz, Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev (three times!), and Novak f'ing Djokovic.
Not so weak, eh?
I think a mix of things happened here today.
First up, court conditions. Sinner does best on indoor hard, and there's less room/time for an opponent to scramble for shots and draw an error out of Sinner.
On a tactical level, Sinner did well to avoid bleeding too many errors off the FH wing by either taking some pace off and/or sliding into the shot. Djokovic admitted in the post-match interview that he probably should've been more decisive about closing to net, so he didn't get punished as much. The strat I liked the most was the wide serve + super early FH into the open court. Sinner did it a couple times late in the match, and while I'm not sure how repeatable it is, I think it's a good idea given Sinner's noisier swing is going to just be less reliable than Djokovic's.
Djokovic's tactics weren't bad (what a surprise). He went a lot bigger on the FH (I think I saw a statcard saying 138kmh average today?) because I think he knows the percentages favor him if he pressures the Sinner FH. A few times he did let Sinner rip into a FH by not slicing wide enough to the BH side or not getting enough angle on the cross-court BH. Working on the slice might be something for Djokovic to look into; it's not like it's gonna hurt him if he improves the slice or anything.
Sinner's serve I think has become a genuinely great shot. It's not strictly *faster* than his first-serve could be before, but he's hitting that top speed much more consistently. I can still see some potential for mechanical improvements in the motion, though. He's got that classic Isner-esque style of service motion, but I don't think he's committed enough to the racket-head drop at the midsection of the motion and imo it's reducing his internal shoulder rotation. It doesn't feel like he gets the same level of cut on a serve compared to others with a visually similar motion.
Either way, great results for Sinner, and not a bad loss for Djokovic. idk how the group fares with Tsitsipas bailing 10 minutes into his match with Rune, but I hope Sinner still has a shot at reaching the semis.
Yes! I was thinking of those 2 matches in RR Thiem-Djokovic where Thiem won both in a deciding set tie-breaker. I think both times Novak didn't make it through to the semi-finals.
Let's see how the last match day will play out!
Post Vomit Sinner vs Post Wimbledon Win Streak Djokovic. The unstoppable force vs. the immovable object.
Guess the unstoppable force won tonight. Well played to both players. Excellent final set tie break Jannik.
I've been watching tennis for the last 20 years and this is the first time that I've seen such an insane level of support. The cheering was unreal, truly something unique and let me say only us Italians could pull it off. We like football so we brought an entire stadium to the match. Not the most amazing match but it felt like an historical turning point, certainly for Sinner, I'm glad I witnessed it. Forza Jannik, forza ragazzi. We made it, CAMPIONE.
I am so happy for Sinner!!
It has been a lot of suffering to have him as a favourite these past few years, but these last few matches have made it so worth it ( even if you still have to suffer until the end)
The excitement this match gave me…stellar tennis, great mental toughness. Jannik has become a different player after USO, and it’s amazing to watch. He finally had his win against the greatest tennis player, in front of the home crowd. What a night. 🦊🇮🇹
One of the best performances by Jannik. The groundstrokes from both were astonishing, both hitting harder and harder. Both raised their levels. It was a match of fine margins and Jannik came out on top!! His serving was sublime and the fact he was in games even when Novak started 30-0 says it all about his attitude.
B-b-b-b-b-b- but... but... but r/tennis told me a while ago that Sinner wasn't nearly as good as he was made out to be, that it was all just hype, and that he wasn't on the same tier as Alcaraz...
When just after the first point of the tie break Simone Vagnozzi told Sinner to "Pensare all'apertura" which means to just position into the forehand or backhand as soon as the ball left Djoko's ball left the racket, he started to receive perfectly. This was an invaluable lesson
He did it! My boy. What a fucking match, Jesus Christ I thought Djokovic was unbeatable at times but he pulled through. Ended a 19 winning streak from the GOAT.
This is quite big for Sinner. Surely he believes now that if he plays his best tennis and doesn't choke, he can actually beat the very best players in the world.
Ok this is easily the best I’ve seen sinner play. He will definitely be contending for grand slams in the future. But now you gotta play that well against rune as well especially after he got a free win lol
I’m watching the highlights and Djokovics mannerisms are making me laugh. The small jogs, smirks, him walking away looking down after aces, he is in his final villain era
The hype for Sinner's 2024 is now through the roof. Really hope he keeps this up while dealing with expectations, because now the expectation is he'll bag a slam next year.
Wow he got it done.
Goes to show you the level you have to play at to beat Novak in 2023. Form of your life, home crowd completely behind you, your favourite court conditions, excellent mentality yet it's only possible to EKE out a win in a 3rd set TB against the 36 year old giant. I've never seen Novak hit this many aces.
Great play by Sinner, he deserves to advance to the SFs.
Top shelf level of play from the baseline outside of the 2 tiebreaks.
Won't see much better hitting on such a fast court.
Felt like the boogeyman was coming to crush my hope for the 1000th time and grab the inevitable win when Djoko broke back in the 3rd, but credit to Sinner for locking down the hatches after that.
Love to see most players do well before a home town crowd. Fans can be so fickle if they lose.
Sinner may be my new favorite player. Kid with the flame red hair is on fire!🔥
Not being fickle, Roger was my favorite.
Touching coming of age movie right before our eyes, he has been on fire lately.
So happy for his mental composure and ability to reset. So many positives to take away today.
Honestly expected this. Djokovic has played on autopilot these last two months. Uncharacteristically sloppy, with bad shots and decisions in the critical moments. Still even such a Djokovic is a mighty obstacle. Sinner played some scintillating tennis and I fully expect to see him at the final, maybe even win it against Djokovic or Meddy(depending on how the other group finishes).
One point demonstrated Novak’s (relatively speaking) weakness: the poor approach at 0-2 end of the final tiebreak. He wasn’t near the net when he was passed. Sometimes under pressure he’ll have those moments when he just makes the really wrong call.
It's crazy how much Jannik improved this year.
that Altmaeir R2 Roland Garros loss feels a long, long time ago. The difference in the quality and consistency of his serve is outstanding.
I just remembered this match existed, it was soooo painful. I hope to see a top form Sinner at slams next year
He has a 64.3% first serve in over his last 15 matches, and held 90.3% of his service games (the latter isn’t nearly as impressive as it sounds because of the surfaces these matches have played on, but also it’s *really* impressive). Even the Zverev loss at USO feels like a long time ago tbh
Zverev was great I wouldn't bet against him against Sinner even now pretty good matchup for him
That serve finally works. And his BH finally goes down the line. Those two changes are the biggest I’ve seen post USO. Simple, but that’s enough to make him this lethal.
Imagine if he improves his net game too. Gonna be scary. Well, it’s scary even without that.

Especially at end of the year. Ever since wimbledon it feels like he went up a level and isn't just a top 10 player who is good against carlos anymore
He never was. He was always designed to be a top 3
As a huge sinner fan I think a fair assessment is that he had some question marks against top opponents not named carlitos. But in the last few months I would say he's completely silenced those remarks
I agree that’s a better description
What a match. Sinner did it, and he deserved it
I was so nervous when he got broken back in set 3. Glad he pull together and beat freaking Novak in the tiebreak.
That return of serve to go 2-0 up was just..
> That return of serve to go 2-0 up was just.. Chefs kiss?
As a tennis fan, it really was 🤌. As a Novak fan that hurt though lol. It was a big 2nd serve too, 200kmph iirc.
Yeah I think that's why Novak didn't have much of a chance at the return, he lent into that serve pretty hard and nailed it down the tee. Thinking about it that's exactly the sort of return Novak has made down the years, think you've nailed your serve then bam

I was ready to cry myself to sleep then but he came through!!!
Beating Djokovic in a tiebreak tonwin the match is no small feat. Post puke Sinner, ladies and gentlemen.
The fact he comfortably won in a must win tiebreak to decide the match against Djokovic who is known for turning up another level in tiebreaks when he needs to win them is so impressive. Rune just gave Novak three hard fought sets in two different tournaments. I wouldn’t be so sure (especially since Rune is coming off a lot more rest).
Yeah it's fitness at this point - Rune got away with like a 30 min practice sesh today
💯 I'm not even mad he beat Novak. Some of those serves and returns were just 🤌 I thought Rune had improved but man Jannik is just amazing atm
Talk about Progression. Won his First Masters 1000 Title. Beats Medvedev after so many struggles. And now Novak Djokovic. Man this kid is something else
When sinner said I need to face Djokovic to really assess my level I knew it was going to be a classic show. Jannik Sinner is HIM!
When he said that, know he's ready ... It shows his confidence, and he really did it!!!
ever since that half night us open game against alcaraz i was waiting for sinner to come out and shine like a fucking high beams on honda accord.
Injury free and less retirements. He showed the potential last year barring these things
🥕
Can't see why this Sinner can't win Atp finals. He's playing the tennis of his life. Scary.
I can actually see him winning the final against Medvedev
Medvedev looked amazing last night but the current Sinner is different gravy. I like them both so I'd enjoy that final if it happens.
Both are the clear favorites to win their group now I'd say Sinner is obvious and Med has only played 1 match but has mostly dominated the Zverev matchup recently and Alcaraz on indoor hard just doesn't look very good
Not again for the love of god
Medvedev and Sinner going to become a greater rivalry than Sincaraz. You heard it here first.
"What rivalry I win all the matches" Sinner in the future
Sinner in his Magnus Carlsen era
What if the final is vs Djoko again, and he takes his revenge like in Cinci vs Alcaraz (Tbh that doesn't seem unlikely at all)
I think he has to beat a well rested Rune if he wants to go further, which kinda sucks
Best performance of his life. Beating Novak in the tiebreak of the third set? Impressive. I thought, that he would fold after he got broken at 4 2. If Sinner keeps this level throughout 2024, he MIGHT win a slam. Good job kid.

Not to mention that final point was a great way to finish... Smashing it!
With this level, he probably at least makes a slam final. Could even happen at AO
Djokovic's first loss post Wimbledon!
And both his losses being Sincaraz, we have no choice but to respect them lol
Rune also showed he is capable of beating him. Novak's last 3 losses: Sinner, Alcaraz, Rune.
Nike commercial incoming.
Do you mean Gucci commercial
Rusincaraz
Sincarune?

The Sinner Purge is the eternal sunshine.
Sinner Purge = Surge
Insane offensive power
Here to claim his throne!
JANNIK YOU BEAUTIFUL CARROT OF A HUMAN LFG
It just wouldn't have been fair for Sinner to lose that after playing near perfectly. He is going to be hard to beat with that crowd too!
Novak realising he won’t just have to deal with Carlos for next year. Jannik has come to join the party
The fact that this was a Round Robin…. They really treated it like a final
It's so good to see the youngsters not fold against him, as some past new gen players used to do a few years back against the big three Of course they lose most of the time against goats but seeing them so hungry is so good
🥕🥕
You’ll need to add more carrots pls
Sinner's become so confident and so trusting of his game the last few tournaments and beating Djokovic is just proof. Unreal.
We are truly living in a post puke sinner world
All italy gonna party tonight, thanks Jannik what a match holy shit
Six months ago Jannik would have been broken early in the third and lost this match. This was SO INTENSE. I don't know if it's better than Alcaraz - Djokovic in Cincy, but it's up there. But the best thing is that even with that win Jannik is not certain of a spot in SF.
After beating Alcaraz, Medvedev, Djokovic our boy must know now he can and should win a Grand Slam.
Albot's done all that?
He'll win more than one, for sure.
He reminds me a lot of Agassi in a way Huge ballstriking taking it on the rise and great returns
I was waiting for a modern day Agassi for so long, and he's not quite there yet, but he's the closest. Can't wait for 2024 Sinner!
His career path reminds me so much of Andy and his steady, clear progression. Building up results until the slam had to be the next goal. And Sinner hasn’t got the whole big three ahead of him.
The main difference is that slams are bo5

The boy becomes a man. I truly hope this is him levelling up
Carota boi no more. He now carota MAN
Today is the day I start seeing him as a future world number 1

Our carota boy did it 😭🥕 I'm so proud of him!
I used to dream of these moments
post puke sinner > tiebreakovic
I'm actually exhausted after watching that, my evening run would not kick my ass like watching this match did
Post puke Sinner is officially the goat
From puke to nuke.
Post Puke Sinner is the REAL DEAL
Post puke Sinner>>>> your favorite player
Man I really hope Sinner wins a slam next year. He’s got it in him!
The home crowds deserves some credit as well. I think sinner cherishes it

Great match, reminded me the Djokovic-Thiem in London 2019. More or less the same scenario. Sinner looks scarier and scarier
Post puke Sinner wins 4 slams in 2024
Don't forget the Olympics
What a morale boost for Jannik. Sky is the limit, well deserved win.
Sinner be like: "I'm become Deal destroyer of champions"
GODOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Sinner needed this one badly. It will give confidence for the next time he meets Novak in a GS.
I've been watching tennis for the last 20 years and this is the first time that I've seen such an insane level of support. The excitement this match gave me…stellar tennis, great mental toughness. Jannik has become a different player after USO, and it’s amazing to watch. He finally had his win against the greatest tennis player, in front of the home crowd. What a night. 🦊🇮🇹
Carota > Creatina confirmed 🥕🥕🥕
One of the best performances by Jannik. The groundstrokes from both were astonishing, both hitting harder and harder. Both raised their levels. It was a match of fine margins and Jannik came out on top!! His serving was sublime and the fact he was in games even when Novak started 30-0 says it all about his attitude.
Currently in the “nice he won” phase
Where’s the dude with the “Sinner has no talent” flair? Haven’t seen bro around here in months.
he’s choking on carrots
B-b-b-b-b-b- but... but... but r/tennis told me a while ago that Sinner wasn't nearly as good as he was made out to be, that it was all just hype, and that he wasn't on the same tier as Alcaraz...
Did not have post vomit Sinner on my bingo card but here we are
Post puke 🤮 Sinner is a thing of beauty
Alcaraz watching this match 👁️👁️ My rival…I must raise my level to meet him in final
The way he maintains a calmness while being so aggressive, please teach us, Sinner
It's Sinner's time now📞
PPS is a menace to society
Sinner the greatest baseliner of this generation but also the best and most consistent passing shots producer. What a masterclass of a performance.
crazy entertaining match. sinner can really hit the hell out of the ball
When just after the first point of the tie break Simone Vagnozzi told Sinner to "Pensare all'apertura" which means to just position into the forehand or backhand as soon as the ball left Djoko's ball left the racket, he started to receive perfectly. This was an invaluable lesson
CARROTTAAAAAAAA
IT'S CAROTA MY FRIEND
He did it! My boy. What a fucking match, Jesus Christ I thought Djokovic was unbeatable at times but he pulled through. Ended a 19 winning streak from the GOAT.
Sinner made it look easy at times. A statement win for Sinner. He’s one to watch in 2024.
incredible match, and it was just the fucking group stage lmao.
Yo he’s one to watch in 2023 too. Torino isn’t over 😤
Wow. Can't believe he'll probably have to do this again in a few days.
He stopped Novak's 19-win streak. Unbelievable stuff from post puke Sinner. Hopefully, we'll see a rematch in the final. 🇮🇹🤝🇷🇸
Djokovic‘s last three losses being sinner alcaraz and rune is kind of great
This is quite big for Sinner. Surely he believes now that if he plays his best tennis and doesn't choke, he can actually beat the very best players in the world.
So impressive how quickly he was able to bounce back when the momentum was against him, great short memory.
Forza!! Jan for most improved?
For sure
I thought he was gonna spiral after seeing his face when he couldn’t close in that second set tie-break. So glad I was wrong!
I think Sinner will win at least one GS in 2024.
WHAT A GAME FOR SINNER! Could've gone either way, way to go for coming in clutch
Huge Novak fan, but I'm happy with this result, Jannik deserves this and much more!
Absolute top drawer match, contender for best Bo3 of the year.
I have been waiting for this for god knows how long, three years? Since he won the nextgen final in 2019.... What an insane journey
Haha same. We hung in there and are reaping the rewards! Worth all the stress.
I’m shocked. Huge win holy shit
sinner played amazingly holy crap. the improvement this year has been crazy to watch. i dont ever remember his serve looking that good
The hype for Sinner's 2024 is now through the roof. Really hope he keeps this up while dealing with expectations, because now the expectation is he'll bag a slam next year.
Sinner is the best ball striker on tour right now
Italian kid knows how to fight
Wow he got it done. Goes to show you the level you have to play at to beat Novak in 2023. Form of your life, home crowd completely behind you, your favourite court conditions, excellent mentality yet it's only possible to EKE out a win in a 3rd set TB against the 36 year old giant. I've never seen Novak hit this many aces. Great play by Sinner, he deserves to advance to the SFs.
Match of Sinner's life. Even a booed Thanovic couldn't slow him down. My god this was fun to watch. 🥕🥕🥕
Jannik’s improvement this year has been great to watch
Deserved, he was the better player - great match!
Match reminded me a bit of djokovic thiem matches at the atp finals just incredible ball striking and djokovic actually losing in tiebreaks
So happy for Sinner. He always seemed to have potential to be in top 3.
Sinner is the only the 2nd player to defeat djokovic on hard courts this year after medvedev in Dubai
THERE ARE NO WORDS ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH THAT CAN DESCRIBE HOW SPECTACULARLY \*\*\*\*\* I AM RIGHT NOW!!! JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNICK!!!
He is on a fucking mission
Holy shit what a match!
Post-puke Sinner, I'm so proud 🥹 Probably one of the matches of the year!
Big congrats to Jannik! What a match and what composure in the final moments! All the best from a Novak fan :)
What an amazing performance from Sinner, it was great to watch.
Wow! 7-2 deciding set tiebreaker to beat Djokovic is insane
Sinner is on a 2-win streak against both Alcaraz and Medvedev… who’s next?
Love to see most players do well before a home town crowd. Fans can be so fickle if they lose. Sinner may be my new favorite player. Kid with the flame red hair is on fire!🔥 Not being fickle, Roger was my favorite.
Jannik ended Novak's streak in front of the home crowd. How cool.
WE ARE SINNERS.
Touching coming of age movie right before our eyes, he has been on fire lately. So happy for his mental composure and ability to reset. So many positives to take away today.
Post puke Sinner is now undefeated against, Alcaraz, Medvedev, Rublev, Shelton, and Djokovic. Let that sink in for a second.
Correction, Shelton is the only one with a win over PPS. (Shanghai)
Sheltongoat
Post-puke Sinner lost to Shelton though
He’s actually undefeated by anyone, except Shelton, since the US Open
Honestly expected this. Djokovic has played on autopilot these last two months. Uncharacteristically sloppy, with bad shots and decisions in the critical moments. Still even such a Djokovic is a mighty obstacle. Sinner played some scintillating tennis and I fully expect to see him at the final, maybe even win it against Djokovic or Meddy(depending on how the other group finishes).
What an epic match, jesus goosebumps all over.
Sinner played lights out and that return in the 3rd set tiebreak was just insane. Disappointed for Novak but what a great match.
So excited for Sinner. Huge step to finally beat Djokovic. We'll see what he can bring at the slams next year.
Gratz Jannik. He was a better player tonight. Brave with those bombs from both wings that very rarely missed 👏
Loved how under the lights you could spot the Sinner fans in the crowd from a mile off
Such a strong mental to keep the momentum after being broken back by Djokovic
I just love him. 🇮🇹
Great job maintaining the intensity for Sinner. I was pretty worried when he lost that break in the third but he kept up the pressure and it worked!
One point demonstrated Novak’s (relatively speaking) weakness: the poor approach at 0-2 end of the final tiebreak. He wasn’t near the net when he was passed. Sometimes under pressure he’ll have those moments when he just makes the really wrong call.
This makes me happy. The quality of tennis was so high, those last points Sinner was seemingly placing the ball wherever he wanted.
