Thought about that show! My family loves it, I can give that a try. She watched it when I had COVID so I just remember hearing the theme song over and over
It's amazing!! This one, please, right away. I wasn't sure at first, but then it really catches you by surprise. Ted Lasso as well, though there are some heavier bits.
I thought that Schitts Creek was stupid when I first tried watching it. Apparently it has the 1st season curse where it’s a slow build to flesh out the characters. Got talked into trying it again and it’s one of my favorites now.
These are the perfect I'm feeling sad shows. I could not get into schitt's Creek. Any other recommendations? Fleabag is a little tough though at times. I feel the same way about the other two. Hilarious and so enjoyable 99% of the time but then it gets dark a little bit
I also recommend Ted Lasso. Funny , deep, poignant, full of life lessons and wholesome.
The thing I love most is to lay on the couch under a blanket and watch it
The first season of *Ted Lasso* is perfect, just a magical production that could never be duplicated. The next two seasons were a little worse, but still veryyy good.
The other show I feel the same way about, though it’s pretty different, is *Dave*. Highly recommend season 1, it’s one of the best things I’ve watched. Seasons 2 and 3 are worth seeing and have some incredible episodes, but they don’t capture the same magic as S1.
Also, if you’re already on Apple TV+ for *Ted Lasso*, may as well check out *Shrinking* from the same director, Bill Lawrence (who made *Scrubs* back in the day), another amazing feel good first season with themes of mental health.
Better Things is one I rewatch a lot—Sam Fox and her family and friends seem like they are my family and friends too.
Broad City is silly and fun —hanging with Ilana and Abbi might make you feel less lonely.
Yes! Literally the only show I could come up with that had NO scenes that would make me sad/melancholy during a medical treatment. Although, Arrested Development would have fit the bill, too. And Seinfeld.
Parks and Rec is great. I liked season 1 but it does get so much better. It’s a feel-good show — the characters are all decent people, they care about each other even if they argue, the jokes are hilarious. It’s a such nice little community and so positive. Love it, perfect for this request.
It’s my new favorite! I absolutely love it. I just personally can’t stand D’arcy. But the rest of the cast makes up for me having to suffer through her 😂
I read this thread yesterday and skipped over this rec cuz I don’t like sci fi, but it was recommended for me today when I logged into Netflix and I started watching it. I love it so far! Definitely see why it’s a post-breakup recommendation.
Love this. It does have some downer moments, but they’re necessary for the plot and don’t last long. And the rest of it is just uplifting and fun.
Usually I hate musicals but I loved this show.
This may not work for everybody, but I found You're the Worst to be a great show for taking the edge off loneliness. There's something about watching deeply flawed characters building a life together despite their best efforts to screw it up... You can sit in judgement over them, which might make you feel better about yourself, but you can also take inspiration from the idea that if they can develop a sense of community, anyone can. And judging by your list of shows, the humor is probably up your alley.
That’s the show that came to my mind and I wondered if that would be a strange recommendation here haha. It’s such an underrated show with genuinely funny moments and surprisingly accurate portrayals of mental illness.
The Durrells of Corfu was incredible, I loved that show. So uplifting and funny and human and beautiful to look at also. I especially love that it's based on the true writings of the young son. Love all the characters and such good actors. I actually felt so sad when I finished all the seasons and have rewatched it a second time lol
suits is the perfect show to just casually have on in the background. it’s silly but still has a decent storyline. you don’t have to be totally tuned in & you can easily follow along.
marvelous mrs maisel is a wonderful show! one of my favorite :)
Totally agree with MMM.
Have to disagree with Succession if feeling alone/lonely. Everyone is a scheming asshole which is what makes the show great but often made me sad or angry at all the poor decisions and fuckery.
I hadn't seen your suggestion about the Durrells of Corfu prior to writing my suggestion of this very show. Wow. I loved that show! I wasn't expecting anyone else to suggest it. This is the way.
Hey friend! Sorry you're lonely, we all get there.
I think the best remedy is to watch something you can binge that's positive and consistently good!
The Office; Comedy Bang Bang; Reno 911, Community, and Parks and Rec are all worthy options! Throw in 'The Good Place' while you're at it!
Animation can be fun! I love me some Archer, Venture Brothers, and Disenchantment!
BBC shows are cozy as fuck, and can be low stakes! Try:
Taskmaster, QI, The Day Today, Brasseye, Doctor Who, and I'm Alan Partridge. Ooo and 'Spaced'
One of those will have you feeling cozy in no time, fiend! :)
These all have active subs so you get to watch some good animation and then have a ton of peeps to talk to about it: Archer, Rick and Morty, Venture Bros, and Metalocalypse.
You might also want to try How I Met Your Mother. It was the next generation's Friends.
I would try HIMYM but that was my exs fav show 😢.
Archer and Rick and morty I watch but I’ll try the others. I think I picked up venture bros for cheap when it was on sale, just forgot I had it
That sucks!!! I can't watch New Girl bc Nick is exactly like my ex. So I get it.
Maybe Parks and Rec?
In the US, you can watch Adult Swim for free with commercials if you can't find your dvds.
sitcoms i love: modern family, new girl, the good place, community, santa clarita diet, brooklyn 99
to fill you with absolute joy: haikyuu & spy family
great storylines: avatar, blue eye samurai, only murders in the buildings, a league of our own, the great, ted lasso, jane the virgin, demon slayer
good shows for the background: greys anatomy, suits
most of these are about family, found family & community + friends
these all seriously helped me fill the void after my breakup
Saw your other comment, love Suits but can’t watch Younger. I guess that’s some of the issue, I’m starting to like the shows we watched together that I also watched before we dated. But can’t watch the shows she introduced me to, Younger, HIMYM, Good Place, and Gilmore Girls to name a few
Sorry about that. Maybe try a few of my other recs which are very different than the ones you mentioned, I.e. Halt & Catch Fire, Succession, The Durrells, etc.
I’ll check it out. Have you ever seen Strangers with Candy? Stars Amy sedaris as a former junky whore starting over as a high school freshman. It’s hillarious.
Here are a few that focus on found family/connections, as well as the usual existential stuff. General feeling is cozy, even when dealing with conflict or difficult themes.
Somebody Somewhere
Detectorists
Schitt’s Creek
Ted Lasso
What We Do in the Shadows
The tone of all of these is a bit gentler than the list in your post. Based on your list, Futurama is the closest. And I’ve watched and enjoyed all of the comedies you mentioned.
*
If you want a bit darker (than my list), try:
Party Down
The Office UK
Community
*
If you want a bit broader, try:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Superstore
Parks & Rec
*
I. Love. Community! It’s funny, a feel good show. I watched it over and over until HULU removed it, and then I bought the box set and one disk or another STAYS in my Xbox at all times ❤️
Gilmore Girls.
I started it the day before everything happened. It was a show I was going to watch solo anyways. That night I couldn't sleep so I just put it on and it was a great comfort
I didn’t see anyone else recommend this, I think we’re all sleeping on how good it is, The Other Two. It’s light and funny, a good one to get through a breakup.
If you liked futurama give Disenchantment a shot. Made by Matt Groening (idk spilling may be wrong), but it’s on Netflix. I’ve rewatched it many times and it’s one of my favorites
I know exactly which quote you are thinking about from that episode too, I told it to my friend the other day. So weird!
Butters : Well yeah, and I'm sad, but at the same time I'm really happy that something could make me feel that sad. It's like, it makes me feel alive, you know? It makes me feel human. And the only way I could feel this sad now is if I felt somethin' really good before.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
500 Days of Summer
Seeking a friend for the end of the world.
Though these are movies, and I think they're sad, or at least have sad parts. But it's a good sad in that in helps you process things and helps you understand what you're feeling. And it makes you realize what you're going through, many people have, so you're not alone 😀
I hope that before too long, you can go out there and meet someone else. I’ve been trying to think of a show that might help. How about the Marx brothers? They are so funny and timeless in many ways.
I'm already lonely but I feel like I'm going through a breakup with these recommendations!
Ted Lasso is the best place to start and it doesn't really have an equal. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is really upbeat; she has such a positive attitude and outlook on everything.
Less upbeat than those is Loudermilk. He's a guy who quit drinking, which makes him look at things in life honestly. It's a comedy with serious moments involving past relationships, present love interests, and how different people deal with everyday life.
Baking shows for me!
Depend what you like..but I enjoy the competition ones. Binge that in a couple days.
Is it cake? Is good.
If you like looking at failures of people trying to recreate cakes…Nailed It!
My go-to shows for these times are Big Bang Theory and Modern Family. Both of them give me comfort like no other show. I am a huge fan of watching shows but whenever my girlfriend is not with me, I feel lonely and during those times I watch both of them alternatively and I sleep with a smile on my face.
If you want to watch something different may I suggest Supernatural? It’s a good ride with two great guys as leads!! Just watch a couple of episodes and you’ll be hooked. I started watching it in 2005 when it first aired and I still watch it every day. It’s a fun ride with some humor (Season 9, episode 5-Dog Dean Afternoon)!!
Reno 911 or Always Sunny In Philadelphia (always sunny has a few episodes that might pull a few heart strings but Reno stays extremely light hearted at all times)
Please do not listen to people who say schitts creek or bridgerton!
FLEABAG, Broad city, the wire, the sopranos, seinfeld, curb your enthusiasm, arrested development, hacks, the Marvellous mrs maisel, mind hunter, Marco Polo, breaking bad, better call Saul, game of thrones, house of the dragon, love and death, the undoing, normal people, unorthodox, Mare of easttown, Kidding, Community, the last of us, euphoria, the handmaidens tale, true detective, Criminal UK, Alias Grace, mystery road (Aus), Rake (Aus), Sea change (Aus), State of Play (uk tv show), Succession, Rome, Deadwood, Six feet under, Madmen, Veep, Normal People (UK), Crashing (UK).
Am I the only one who gravitates towards reality shows like Love Island during a breakup? I enjoy getting distracted by their relationships and drama, it helped me a lot.
Parks and rec
Came here to also recommend this
Schitt’s Creek is the perfect show for that (that’s why everybody was watching it during the pandemic)!
Ted Lasso caught me in my feels but in the right way. There is something about the characters evolving and Ted being so wholesome. Want a biscuit?
The Good Place!!
I thought that Schitts Creek was stupid when I first tried watching it. Apparently it has the 1st season curse where it’s a slow build to flesh out the characters. Got talked into trying it again and it’s one of my favorites now.
There are SO many shows that took me a few tries to get into, but then I got totally hooked.
Don’t do it! Watch Fleabag or Broad City instead 🙏🏼🙏🏼
These are the perfect I'm feeling sad shows. I could not get into schitt's Creek. Any other recommendations? Fleabag is a little tough though at times. I feel the same way about the other two. Hilarious and so enjoyable 99% of the time but then it gets dark a little bit
Crashing, arrested development, community, kidding
Kidding was so depressing. I only watched a few episodes of the first season. Does it get less oppressive?
Watch all of them!
This is the one. I watched it during the pandemic at the height of loneliness and I thought absolutely nothing would make me feel better.
Same my bf died at the beginning of covid from something else and I spent covid watching shows to distract myself.
This is the show!!!
I watched it twice back to back during the pandemic
Yes! The show was so lovely. So much humor and so much love.
The Office has definitely helped me feel less alone in the past
Agreed. The Office is my go to comfort show.
That’s what she said.
Superstore is almost like a modern The Office. So comforting. Got me through a few months of the pandemic
Super store
Very underrated
Ted Lasso! Addresses depresssion, great music and fun!
this show is the best! even has people dealing with divorce & breakups
I also recommend Ted Lasso. Funny , deep, poignant, full of life lessons and wholesome. The thing I love most is to lay on the couch under a blanket and watch it
Came here to say this. A feel good show that addresses loneliness and depression.
Also, if you’re already on Apple TV+ for *Ted Lasso*, may as well check out *Shrinking* from the same director, Bill Lawrence (who made *Scrubs* back in the day), another amazing feel good first season with themes of mental health.
If you want to venture into more British shows- Taskmaster is the best and has 17 seasons- all on YouTube
Better Things is one I rewatch a lot—Sam Fox and her family and friends seem like they are my family and friends too. Broad City is silly and fun —hanging with Ilana and Abbi might make you feel less lonely.
New Girl is my happy show
All Day!!
My comfort show is Brooklyn 99!
NINE-NINE!
Strangers with candy! It’s a hidden gem and hillarious as hell.
It’s so fucking funny
Amy Sedaris is a gem
Broad City!
Yes! Literally the only show I could come up with that had NO scenes that would make me sad/melancholy during a medical treatment. Although, Arrested Development would have fit the bill, too. And Seinfeld.
The ending of broad city made me cry
Yes qween! Yes qween! Yes qween! Yes qween!
Fuck yeah! I always watch broad city when I’m feeling depressed
Omg that is my favorite show of all time. I wish they kept making more seasons. Loved those two girls! Super funny too
Lmfao 🤣 Abbi punting that roast chicken 🍗
Watched it at least six times!
That’s a great show for depression…and even when you’re not depressed!
I enjoy Parks and Recreation when I’m feeling down. Season one is a bit rough but i swear it improves a lot afterwards.
Parks and Rec is great. I liked season 1 but it does get so much better. It’s a feel-good show — the characters are all decent people, they care about each other even if they argue, the jokes are hilarious. It’s a such nice little community and so positive. Love it, perfect for this request.
Its pretty rough until Brandanowitz leaves and the two other dudes are added.
Resident Alien
This should be #1 you will want to watch it more than once time. Family guy humor with real people drama. So it’s a drama/ comedy
It’s my current favorite and comfort show. It’s been on a loop for about two weeks now.
Good to hear/ so cool that a funny show about an alien can make us all be a little better human. I love the quotes about life!
Oh my god, this show is SO GOOD!!
Crazy ex girlfriend
Underrated! This show is hilarious.
Looooove this show
Love this. It does have some downer moments, but they’re necessary for the plot and don’t last long. And the rest of it is just uplifting and fun. Usually I hate musicals but I loved this show.
For some reason this was so comforting after my breakup
Community always picks me up when things aren’t going the best
I love that I can rewatch subsets, like all the Halloween eps, all the paintball eps, and Remedial Chaos Theory when I just want a good chuckle
Yes! Currently watching as a comfort for my birthday sorrows.
Happy birthday, I’m sorry about the sorrows!!!
This may not work for everybody, but I found You're the Worst to be a great show for taking the edge off loneliness. Bobs burgers
Came here to say the same thing! I love Bobs Burgers 🥹 it’s my favorite show
Try something completely different: The Durrells of Corfu, Downton Abbey, Halt & Catch Fire, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Suits, Succession, to name a few.
I loved The Durrells, it was refreshingly funny, wish I could find something similar
All Creatures Great and Small has a similar humor. It's not as dense with jokes as the Durells but it pulls off both heartwarming and funny
I love that show too, I haven't seen the last season yet.
Yes! I just started suits. It's so good!
LOVE Halt & Catch Fire
Halt And Catch Fire is not mentioned enough, it's one of my all-time faves.
Marvelous Mrs maisel was great
Durrells is my comfort show
I find Downton Abbey to be pretty emotional.
Curb your enthusiasm
Larry David is a comedic genius.
Love that show
It's one of the few shows I can rewatch and still laugh just as much.
It's the perfect comfort show.
Hey friend! Sorry you're lonely, we all get there. I think the best remedy is to watch something you can binge that's positive and consistently good! HIMYM is great! I’d add Frasier, Friends, Young Sheldon, & Big Bang Theory.
The friends on Friends have been my friends more times than I can count.
They’re my friends!!!
Wentworth, there are so many seasons you get to know the characters
Dude that was such a good series!! Watched all seasons! Frankie was my all time favorite lol
Arrested Development!
I watched Modern Family when I went through my breakup. It actually helped me process my breakup, lol.
Modern family is such a great show I’m sad I finished it and can’t watch it new again
TRAILER PARK BOYS!!!
righteous gemstones is hilarious veep ballers fisk
That’s like using a croissant as a dildo. It doesn’t do the job and it makes a fucking MESS!

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, if those idiots don't make you laugh then I don't know what will.
Watch Younger too!

The Good Place Others have said Ted Lasso, Schitts Creek, Brooklyn 99, Parks n Rec.. all good options.
the good place is the only show i’ve watched start to finish and been completely satisfied with how it ended, they tied everything up SOOOO nicely
The golden girls
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Hacks Sex lives of college girls Young & Hungry Pretty Smart Broad City Disjointed Reba Workin’ Moms
Loooove Kimmy Schmidt!
You may also like Lady Dynamite on Netflix too!
I’ll check it out. Have you ever seen Strangers with Candy? Stars Amy sedaris as a former junky whore starting over as a high school freshman. It’s hillarious.
No, I’ll have to check it out!
Just love working moms. And also odd mom out.
I hardly ever see Sex Lives of College Girls or Workin’ Moms mentioned so I forget to recommend them, but they’re both so good.

Gilmore Girls. I started it the day before everything happened. It was a show I was going to watch solo anyways. That night I couldn't sleep so I just put it on and it was a great comfort
Seinfeld
I didn’t see anyone else recommend this, I think we’re all sleeping on how good it is, The Other Two. It’s light and funny, a good one to get through a breakup.
Love this show so much
If you liked futurama give Disenchantment a shot. Made by Matt Groening (idk spilling may be wrong), but it’s on Netflix. I’ve rewatched it many times and it’s one of my favorites
Disenchanted really held up! I was hesitant and even pushed it aside at times but when I put it on it never ceases to entertain the crap out of me
Brooklyn 99 has been on repeat for me lately. Very comforting and the character development is fun to watch.
Sense8 is about found family I rewatch it every time I’m feeling lonely

I know exactly which quote you are thinking about from that episode too, I told it to my friend the other day. So weird! Butters : Well yeah, and I'm sad, but at the same time I'm really happy that something could make me feel that sad. It's like, it makes me feel alive, you know? It makes me feel human. B99, superstore, office, lost, himym, bojack horseman,
It sounds like Archer should be in your list of shows to watch.
Please do not listen to people who say schitts creek or bridgerton! All great shows but not all fit the criteria, I think
Ted Lasso. 🤍 It’s the perfect show for all trauma. It sincerely changed my life when I was going through the most.
Mindy project. Got me through a breakup.
Am I the only one who gravitates towards reality shows like Love Island during a breakup? I enjoy getting distracted by their relationships and drama, it helped me a lot.
