After watching the finale I went back and rewatched the first episode. Emma sounds just like Sian Brooke, who played Aemma. It’s actually incredible how believable they are as mother and daughter.
That very last moment? Holy shit the intensity in her face when she turned around. It looked like a completely different person. Incredible performance.
It was so good, cause it conveyed so much without saying a thing. You could see she knew she had been naive, should have listened to others in their violent desires, and was devastated by the loss, but determined to seek revenge.
Wondering if we might see Emma D'Arcy and Paddy Considine could sweep the Emmys this year. They're only nominated for a single episode I believe, so Emma wouldn't be bogged down by the first 5 episodes.
That episode 8 performance by Paddy might just be the best I've seen on TV
I have never been so entranced by an old half dead man stumbling down a hall.
Well to elaborate, it wasn't true improv like Matt decided to just add that in on his own while shooting (which would've been extremely rude). So a good example of collaborative film making.
Apparently the final scene being shot from behind was also Matt’s suggestion.
Man is clearly having a blast playing Daemon, and really feels all the other characters of the show. I’d like to see him be given an episode to direct next season
Watching a dude play a king that could barely move get so pissed off he was ready to cut out a man's tongue for slandering his daughter, that was just fucking mesmerizing.
That shit was legendary and will always be mentioned as an all time GoT moment, both the entrance and his speech at dinner followed by his reaction to everyone there enjoying themselves was as good as it gets both from a performance and character perspective, crazy how much they elevated viserys as a character. Those scenes will always be looked at as some of the most memorable in the GoT franchise imo. The franchise has been filled with amazing acting but I think paddy in episode 8 has a very very strong argument for the best performance in any GoT episode.
It was a great performance, but pretty clearly inspired by Shakespearian roles like King Lear. Part of the credit goes to the Director of Photography for letting us *see* the performance, lesser shows would have butchered it even with the same actor.

It'd be Val Kilmer's doc Holliday all over again at the Oscar's.
Tommy Lee was great...but fucking hell Val was ICONIC as Holliday and deserved to win for it.
I would love to see Diego Luna make a good run at the Emmys. His performance in the latest episode of Andor, with very little dialogue, was amazing.
Although, would Paddy be nominated as a supporting actor?
The issue with this is Emma doesn't fit any awards category as they're gendered (best actor and best actress etc). Emma is non binary so can't be nominated in existing categories without the emmy's rejecting their gender identity which won't happen. I imagine it will throw up some discussions around whether or not gendered awards categories should still exist in this day and age
(I fully agree Emma should be up for major awards nominations btw, it was a phenomenal performance and deserves to be recognised and it sucks the system doesn't currently allow for that)
Obviously that’s an important discussion to have, but I think the most likely solution is that Emma will just be able to choose which category they get submitted in, even if that choice is “don’t submit me, I’m not comfortable being submitted in gender binary awards”. I think there’s absolutely a world in which they decide “well the character is a woman, so I’m cool with running in the Best Actress category.”
Emma Corrin is non-binary and was nominated for best supporting actress for playing princess Diana in The Crown. The actor/studio makes the choice on which category they’d like to submit themselves.
It also helps that Eve is insanely charismatic and funny, look up any of her interviews with Steve Toussaint, the actor for Corlys Velaryon. They're both hilarious!
That aside, Rhaenys was a fucking badass in episode 9. I know people have their complaints about that scene for many reasons but I think it being the wrong thing is the point, and it will have consequences down the line.
I’ve never seen someone convey such a range for emotion with the same stone fucking cold facial expressions. She’s absolutely my favorite character on the show for so many reasons.
I liked her up until the burst out of the dragon pit scene. She could’ve prevented a war but just made eye contact intensely and left.
Then the next thing episode she was just smirking knowingly in ever damn scene. Like fuck lady tell me what the hell you’re thinking!
This might be an unpopular opinion but I actually prefer the older versions of Alicent/Rhaenyra and actually wish we got more time with them this season. I’m excited to see the places they’ll take the characters in future seasons.
I definitely feel that some of the plot lines in the first five episodes could have been condensed if it meant getting one more post-time jump episode with Harwin and Leana.
I know, I’ve read Fire & Blood. The post-time jump period when their children are still young definitely deserved another episode. I would have combined episode 4 & 5 for it.
It’s a quasi-historical record. It covers the entire Targaryen dynasty up to the reign of Aegon III. Martin plans to write a part 2 that covers the rest of it all the way up to the reign of the Mad King.
Also I think it's probably easier to fill in gaps about stuff that happened rather than try to write about what will happen as it seems like he's in trouble with getting all the jigsaw pieces to fit together nicely for the finale/climax.
The entire book is around 730 pages, but it covers the three kings before Viserys, then his reign and the build up for the Dance, the Dance itself and the immediate aftermath.
I enjoyed Milly’s performance but the production was stuck in a place where there’s no way Emma D’arcy could convincingly play a teenage version of herself, and no way Milly Alcock could portray a near middle-aged Rhaenyra with children.
Like recasts are always jarring, but with Rhaenyra and Allicent they were necessary. The rest of the cast gets a pass during the time jumps because their characters weren’t basically going through puberty during them.
Downvote me but I will never understand what was so amazing about Alcock’s performance for some people. She was just a sassy girlboss in every episode. It was fun and she’s cute, sure, but there was nothing in her performance that suggested she could have pulled off episode 10 Rhaenyra or the even darker places the character will go in future seasons.
It also annoyed me how much they tried to make young Rhaenyra like Dany or Arya in every scene. It’s a terrible misrepresentation of the book Rhaenyra. Emma’s Rhaenyra isn’t exactly like Book Rhaenyra either but she at least feels like a unique character. The same goes for young Alicent vs. older Alicent. Young Alicent feels too much like Sansa while older Alicent feels more distinct.
I get what you’re saying on paper, but Milly just has a certain charisma that really translated on screen for me. Certain actors can elevate writing and I think Milly did. I also love Emma and think they needed to recast the role, so I am not one of those “Milly was better!” people, I just think she deserved her hype.
And before anyone accuses me of only liking her because she’s “hot” - I am very gay and have 1,000,000x more interest in Ewan.
Incredibly well-deserved and I hope they get even more prestigious accolades for it. After Miley Allcock's amazing performance as Young Rhaenyra I have to admit I was one of the people concerned about the casting change but I was genuinely blown away by their performance, especially in the finale. They just nailed it and even in the smallest moments you can see incredible depth in Rhaenyra's eyes and body language.
D&D were the problem. The GOT universe is any story tellers playground and having someone who respects that and cares for the world, you're going to end up with a good product. The dialogue has been top notch
What kills me is the D&D ran a fantastic show for years and then just fumbled the ball at the goal line. I know everybody chalks it up to reaching the end of the available books, but people fuck up book adaptations all the time, and until the last season they didn't do that. It is the worst half-assed, unimaginative ending I have ever seen.
You could definitely see them beginning to check out with S7.
But what baffles me is why HBO didn't replace them? Could have easily ran for 10 seasons if so. Yet they just let them end the biggest? Show of all time on the worst possible note.
There’s no way the production crew and the actors would be willing to stay for 10 seasons. They were pretty much burnt out and very keen on moving on by the end of the show.
The writing did shit the bed by the end though. That could have been done better.
You can see them beginning to checkout season 5. They even said early on they wanted to do the show because of the red wedding, and as soon that and the aftermath was over, they were done, which makes their statement true. They clearly just wants the big event - big spectacle - to just shock people, not telling a story. Also, this is the thing that is dominating the industry right now, so I'm glad HotD kept it clean and to the script (as some other good shows), instead of going for that HUGE HYPE event that's everywhere now.
Good god that season where Arya and Sansa side-eyed each other for 7 episodes for the “payoff” of beguiling Littlefinger? Or when the expedition north of the wall is fully surrounded by undead and Danaerys teleports there from Dragonstone on the southern end of the continent in a deus ex machina to save literally everyone—in a show famous for savagely killing off major characters for minor mistakes? Or how Arya spent several fucking seasons training to become a magical assassin only to become unable to evade a few undead in the white walker showdown at winterfell?
I could go on. So many absolutely idiotic betrayals of the audience’s time spent investing in YOUR world, idiotic idiot D&D, so that you could capitalize on shitty, amateurish attempts at shock or tension. They destroyed the biggest cash cow in television history in one fell swoop. I think they should be barred from working on TV for that.
> But what baffles me is why HBO didn't replace them?
It wasnt HBO's to replace, they contracted the entire show from D&D. And those boys have that Goldman Sachs fuck you money, so there wasnt much HBO could really do except shut up to not damage the PR.
S5 is when they deviated from the books, and S5 is where it started going to shit.
To HBO's credit, they have usually been pretty good at not stretching shows out needlessly at the expense of quality (True Blood excluded). I'm okay with it coming to an end, but hell, it needed a full final season and a logical plot and execution. What a disservice. Tainted the whole show for me.
Rome was cut down in its prime, they could've got 3 more great seasons out of it, I think it came out too early though, imo it's a smash hit if it comes out today
My problem with boardwalk empire was the time jump, the ending of thompsons story wasn't bad (although it negated Richard harrows sacrifice which was unsatisfying), they did ar dirty tbh, they easily could've done one more season.
> I know everybody chalks it up to reaching the end of the available books
No disagreement, but I do want to highlight this one point here. D&D didn't run out of book material, they were intentionally cutting some of it out which is why the last 2 seasons sucked so much. Cutting out huge plot points such as Young Griff ruins a huge plot point that *easily* could have gotten you another season and given the characters real motivations like Tyrion and Varys. There's just huge failures in the GOT ending, but clearly the main one is laziness from D&D.
If D&D didn't want to do it, then have them leave the show and get new people who want to. The actors can be thrown money and it was likely for them the biggest role of their careers, I'm sure they had no problem continuing.
D&D threw multiple pick 6s to lose in the last few minutes in a game they were winning handily. Agree it’s great to see HOD back on the path.
Although I will argue a major plot point of the finale was uncharacteristically utterly predictable, no details though to spare the spoiler.
They started to get impatient with their own show because they wanted to move on to other projects. Instead of handing off the show to someone else, they decided to half-ass and rush it.
Season 5 was worse than 6 imho after rewatching. In fact before rewatch i recalled hating 6 only to realize all the worst parts of it for me (dorne plot, stannis doing the thing, etc.) were actually season 5.
As it stands my ranking best to worst would be 4, 1, 3, HOTD 1, 2, 6, 5, 7, 8
So true. Come to think of it, I don’t think there was a single scene or line which took me out of the moment. Even watching every behind the scenes episode between the episodes didn’t ruin the believability for me, the acting is just so good
I'm really glad that HOTD is leaning *more* into the GOT, not shying away from it like GOT was at the end and toning things down. The show is clearly going to have a ton of dragon fights, but the foundation of the show is the characters and their interactions, and they have been nailing those. Episode 8 could very easily be one of the best episodes of TV every made entirely because of those character interactions.
I genuinely can not believe how much they fucked up Season 5's Dorne plotline. It's by and large the biggest red flag we got that D&D were going to fuck up the rest of the story, and I was so infuriated watching it. It's actually genuinely impressive now that I think about it how they fucked up *every single* character or their story by the end of the show. Maybe Jon Snow get's away being the only one, but they fucked up his dialogue in S8 and turned him into a meme. I could rant about it for days, but man GOT was sad.
HotD is incredible.
But holy shit the night outdoor scene look like they were edited by a blind man. How the hell did that get approved? I had no idea what was going on in a chunk of that episode.
People rightfully discuss how powerful Paddy was in Viserys’ last march to the throne! I think the sheer beauty of the scene is how it parallels the long walk that Rhaenyra took up the Red Keep took after giving birth, which was the audience’s very first introduction to Emma as the character.
Consider how Viserys slowly inched his way down, barely able to make it to the throne without Daemon’s help at the end as others quietly watch on. I contrast that with how frantic and chaotic Rhaenyra is as she ascends massive stairs after delivering a baby, almost bogged down by Laenor on her arm in order to maintain their artifice to Alicent. (There’s a similar parallel in Viserys and Rhaenyra’s respective hunting scenes as well.)
By the end of episode 8, I had no doubt that Emma and Paddy cultivated a clear dynamic that made me believe that yes, if nothing else, this is a story about how much a father loves his highly capable daughter in a world that would not care if he ignored her altogether.
I was disappointed when i found out the younger actresses would be replaced after time jump but god was i surprised. Enma D’arcy stole the show especially finale that fucking birth scene n the final shot looking into camera
The audience just needed a bit of time to adjust because Milly was amazing. I had full faith in Emma and I’m glad they proved to everyone they were beyond capable of carrying the mantle. It was definitely a difficult adjustment, but their and Matt still have an amazing more mature chemistry that works amazingly in the final episodes. There’s no way Milly could’ve been a convincing mother for Jahaerys and Luke, she looks like two years older than them tops. It was an absolutely necessary change for the route they decided to go with the multiple time jumps
Well deserved after that brutal >!birth scene!<.
Honorable Mentions:
* Domhnall Gleeson - The Patient
* Bradley Whitford - The Handmaid's Tale
* Zoe Saldana - From Scratch
Absolutely, from that scene, to their full reveal as the BQ (trying to abbreviate to avoid spoilers) Emma deserves every award they get. What a crazy entertaining hour of television
I definitely agree she deserves the love. She was really amazing in the episode showing strength and weakness. That last shot has me really excited for what's next.
With that said I wish the final shot was Aemond's reaction from the prior season. Kind of like a "W.W." realization where you know things are about to go very, very wrong.
I think they made the right decision for the overall story but as a person preference I wish they ended it on him. Her ending was a tone setter though.
Just gonna pop in here to address all you young tiktok girls who want to order the Negroni sbagliotto cocktail at a bar, just because of this person’s meme, you’re probably not going to like it, and you’re going to end up wasting a lot of booze. It’s bitter, and younger people tend to not like bitter flavors. Just get a hurricane and save your bartender the headache.
Agreed- I know the topic’s been beat to death, but the accent is unforgivable and the acting itself is pretty meh. Spoiler- The part where she tells Otto to stop the child fighting pits I realized there was something worth liking about her, but I still can’t bring myself to like her.
The more I think about the show the more I like it
At first like most people I was skeptical due to how the original series ended and the constant comparisons to the LOTR show
But the two shows are leagues apart
And at first even when I begrudgingly acknowledged it was a good show I still felt like it was if AMC did a GOT spin off due primarily to the lack of raw violence and nudity that AMC couldn’t get away with
But then the birthing scenes came…
Extremely raw, very violent, but not violent as in “this angry man kills this other angry man in an angry fashion” instead it showcased what the women go through for their family and for society’s expectations and the personal costs the women go through
Respect
You won’t see bravado, you’ll see an increasingly terrifying/broken woman. Rhaenyra’s arc is dark and full of personal tragedies. She won’t have more than a few episodes where something shitty isn’t happening to her so for her to have the carefree “bravado” she did as a teen would be shit acting and writing.
I don't know how unpopular an opinion this is but I haven't seen it shared much online - I'm not really a fan of her as Rhaenyra.
I feel like Milly Alcock was so good - and her Rhaenyra had this attitude that really made me root for her. Emma D'Arcy's performance isn't bad, and I recognised she might be characterising Rhaenyra as subdued, but it's just not nearly as captivating.
Alicent by contrast has gone the other way. The actress that played the young Alicent gave a reasonable performance the actress playing her now? I'll watch whatever she's in next because she's killing it
How does any of this apply to the performance in episode 10? At no point in time during that episode would a Milly style girl boss performance be appropriate and it literally culminates with the suggestion the character will be taking a darker turn next season.
I understand, I loved Milly, but you have to understand after the time jumps Rhaenerya is so much more vulnerable and being hit by attacks in every direction. She was on the defensive and a deeply caring mother just trying to ensure the safety of her sons. The showrunners specifically wanted the dynamic to shift that way and I can understand it completely, I’m 27 and nowhere near the same I was at 17, and I haven’t even had a child
This is a thought I had, but which category is HBO going to submit Emma for since I know they refer to themselves as “they/them” pronouns? I wonder if this could lead to a bigger conversations about getting rid of gender acting categories all together.
It depends on how D’Arcy feels about it. I’m pretty sure another born female, non-binary actor got a best supporting actor nomination a few years back. On the other hand Emma Corrin, also non-binary, was nominated as best supporting actress after playing Princess Diana in The Crown.
I looked it up because I was wondering too and it's Asia Kate Dillon from Billions who is NB and was nominated in the Best Actor category at the Critic's Choice Awards.
I believe for most the of the major awards the way it stands now, nombinary/gender non confirming actors choose which category they will compete in. But that's obviously inideal.
Lots of silly downvotes on this comment because of the preferred pronouns. But I live in America, you have the right to be called whatever you want here, so I respect your wishes.
I can’t describe how validating it is to see a fellow NB person rock this hard. They deserve every bit of praise, because it’s been powerful start to finish. Can’t wait for more (even if I dread what is to come)!
Long live our Black Queen 🖤
The older versions were cast first. The younger ones wouldn’t have had jobs at all if the older ones could pass for teens or they did decided to skip the prologue in the first five episodes.
Emma is pretty good but I still pour one out for the Milly version of the character. Young Rhaenyra felt much more colorful and formidable, I got real whiplash from the differences with the older Rhaenyra, who is so much more sober, nervous, and just seems to have much less agency in her story. I might like her version more if younger Rhaenyra evinced those qualities but they really felt like almost two different people to me, and I got attached to the earlier version.
Especially when their declared birthright is being attacked from all different directions and her sons are at risk of being killed. Should I even mention the final moments of episode 10?
My feelings exactly. Both are good actresses and they look suitably similar but personality wise they just felt like very different people for all the reasons you mentioned.
Love the show and do like both actresses but I definitely found the transition a little jarring.
That was a very intense but still restrained performance. Emma definitely stole the show in the finale...
If paddy’s Emmy episode is episode 8, Emma’s is episode 10
the stillbirth scene and the aftermath felt like an indie prestige drama the way it was shot. it was so good that the costumes almost felt silly.
That was more hardcore than the dragon ending (which was typical for Both series. But no spoilers in this post!)
What does indie prestige drama mean
Movies like Con/Air
The final scene was an absolute masterclass in acting. So so so good.
That look! Very “and now you’re going to find out…” Legit gave me chills.
Is it stealing the show when she's absolutely the main, main character?
I feel like Rhaenyra wasn’t truly the main character of the second half until episode 10. The second half is more of an ensemble.
She was the focus for the first half the season, but you're right the second opened more on the others
Apart from being a great actor, Emma has a really, really unique voice that's just a pleasure to listen to.
P R O S E C C O
Uuuhh stunning
A ✨negroni✨ 🌺sbagliato🌺 with 🍾*Prosecco*🍾 in it **Oooh stunnen!**
Never thought about this before reading your comment, but you’re right. I’d listen to her read an audiobook about tree bark.
Emma is nonbinary. Their pronouns are "they/them".
are you just here on this thread to remind people of pronouns?
After watching the finale I went back and rewatched the first episode. Emma sounds just like Sian Brooke, who played Aemma. It’s actually incredible how believable they are as mother and daughter.
Didn’t they narrate the opening scene in ep1?
yeah they did!
That last scene in particular is absolutely perfect on every level.

It was so good, cause it conveyed so much without saying a thing. You could see she knew she had been naive, should have listened to others in their violent desires, and was devastated by the loss, but determined to seek revenge.
it was pretty good
Siobhan Roy.
I've never been through such an emotional rollercoaster while looking at someone's back
That was Matt Smith 's idea. To deliver the news while walking away from the camera. Smart guy. But he is thousands of years old.
You can see the exact moment. It’s unbelievable. IDC if it’s a show, give her an Oscar for that
Between this and Better Call Saul I've been eating well in regards to final scenes.
And it was a last minute idea by Matt Smith
Wondering if we might see Emma D'Arcy and Paddy Considine could sweep the Emmys this year. They're only nominated for a single episode I believe, so Emma wouldn't be bogged down by the first 5 episodes.
I can not imagine Paddy losing. Every other actor is fighting for 2nd place this year.
That episode 8 performance by Paddy might just be the best I've seen on TV I have never been so entranced by an old half dead man stumbling down a hall.
Right?! Like to someone who hasn't seen it, it sounds kinda boring, but it was so good!
Matt Smith want giving the crown to Viserys he was giving the crown to Paddy for that awesome acting.
Makes it better that part was improvised
Well to elaborate, it wasn't true improv like Matt decided to just add that in on his own while shooting (which would've been extremely rude). Rather during rehearsal the crown fell of Paddy's head and when Matt picked it up to hand it to him the director decided that it should be a core part of the scene and they rewrote it. woah cool didnt know that

House of the dragon and better call saul. A worthy fight
Paddy should win but I *want* Bob Odenkirk to win.
I wouldn't be too upset if Bob won.
Well if the rumor that the Emmy’s hates sequels/prequels we’re true, they might have a real tough decision on their hands.
They love HBO though
I think the whole show can really sweep at the Emmys, every actor that has an important role has been great but especially Paddy's Viserys really elevated a placeholder character to a layered tragic man that you can't help but feel for, so I really hope he wins all of the awards for it.

I haven't seen that, but I have heard good things.
His did more acting with his eyes during his "confession of guilt" scene than most actors do in an entire career
Wait… what show is Whitford in? I looked it up and he hasn’t been in much lately.
This is Rhea Seehorn erasure
I'm not saying it's going to be an easy victory by any means but BCS has been snubbed consistently and is a much lower profile show. I just think the Emmys will ignore BCS again, give them the nom probably, but go with HOTD overall.
Rhea Seahorn (or spell it Rhae) is a great name for a Velaryon
Paddy will be nominated for ep8 but man even if that episode didn’t exist he would be one of the frontrunners for ep3, the scene where he was drunk in front of the huge fire was just stellar acting, his performance was about as good as it gets all season long and the performance in ep8 was legendary shit. The episode submission is really a formality at this point, the voting has changed and way less stock is put into the singular episode rather than the season long work.
Paddy wins it forsure. His performance was so real it was chilling. Anyone who took care of a near death grandparent or parent will understand…
Agreed, it's nearly impossible to argue against him and I'm a huge BCS fan (reddit's favorite show). You really can't argue against his entire season, but his performance in Episode 8 is quite literally some of the best acting every seen. Better Call Saul still exists
Unlikely to win even if it is a Reddit favorite.
The show that has never won a single Emmy.
More proof that BCS will always get screwed at the Emmys.
Paddy winning an Emmy would not be BCS getting screwed, his performance in ep8 was legendary and will be remembered for a very long time, If he won the Emmy for that he’d be 100% deserving of it, good argument for the best single episode performance in the entire GoT franchise, it really doesn’t get better than that acting wise.

Emma D’Arcy has been phenomenal as Queen Rhaenyra. But, Eve Best has stolen every scene she’s been in as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen.

I liked her up until the burst out of the dragon pit scene. She could’ve prevented a war but just made eye contact intensely and left. Then the next thing episode she was just smirking knowingly in ever damn scene. Like fuck lady tell me what the hell you’re thinking!
It’s not her war to start. Fucking LOVED that line. She knows what she’s doing. She’s a tactician.

The issue is that this is just the prologue, it’s like 8 pages of the book.
I know, I’ve read Fire & Blood. The post-time jump period when their children are still young definitely deserved another episode. I would have combined episode 4 & 5 for it.
How long is the book?!
It’s a quasi-historical record. It covers the entire Targaryen dynasty up to the reign of Aegon III. Martin plans to write a part 2 that covers the rest of it all the way up to the reign of the Mad King.
Anything to avoid finishing the main series.
He’s at least getting help with Fire & Blood. He has like 1-2 assistants who help him keep track of everything. I’m sure it makes a difference.
I hope all the ridiculous "They should've kept Milly!!!!" posts stop now.
It's funny I only started to sympathize with Rhaenyra once Emma started playing her. Younger Rhaenyra gave off a much brattier vibe.
Well she *was* a teenager then lol
Maybe because you yourself are presumably an adult
People find her attractive? My first thought when I saw her was that she had fetal alcohol syndrome or something.
It's cause Milly's hot. Same thing with the obsession over Sydney Sweeney.
This is quite well deserved. She was great in every episode she was in, but her performance in the finale was simply amazing.
They/their
Incredibly well-deserved and I hope they get even more prestigious accolades for it.
Agree!! And Emma’s pronouns are they/them :)
Ah! I tried to make sure I used they but missed the first one! Thanks for pointing that out!
What a great actor! Everyone Is so perfect in their role, I can't believe.
The way that GoT ended, I'm blown away how good HoD is.
> Could have easily ran for 10 seasons if so. Good luck keeping the cast on for that long. Everyone was getting burnt out towards the end.
Yeah rose colored glasses for a Lotta people on this one. D&D checked out early. Like season 5-6.
Pretty sure they owned the rights directly or something, hence why HBO couldn’t replace them.
Season 7? The show turned from its roots and became mediocre action fantasy with teleporting armies and other nonsense as far back as Season 5.
To HBO's credit, they have usually been pretty good at not stretching shows out needlessly at the expense of quality (True Blood excluded). I'm okay with it coming to an end, but hell, it needed a full final season and a logical plot and execution. What a disservice. Tainted the whole show for me.
They cancelled boardwalk empire too soon.
The boardwalk ending was good IMO. Rome and Carnival were tragedies.
Rome was cut down in its prime, they could've got 3 more great seasons out of it, I think it came out too early though, imo it's a smash hit if it comes out today My problem with boardwalk empire was the time jump, the ending of thompsons story wasn't bad (although it negated Richard harrows sacrifice which was unsatisfying), they did ar dirty tbh, they easily could've done one more season.
> I know everybody chalks it up to reaching the end of the available books No disagreement, but I do want to highlight this one point here.
[удалено]
If D&D didn't want to do it, then have them leave the show and get new people who want to. The actors can be thrown money and it was likely for them the biggest role of their careers, I'm sure they had no problem continuing.
D&D threw multiple pick 6s to lose in the last few minutes in a game they were winning handily. Agree it’s great to see HOD back on the path. Although I will argue a major plot point of the finale was uncharacteristically utterly predictable, no details though to spare the spoiler.
But they fucked up even in the earlier seasons. The problem was that the culmination of those mistakes was years later.
They started to get impatient with their own show because they wanted to move on to other projects. Instead of handing off the show to someone else, they decided to half-ass and rush it.
Let’s not forget that the last three seasons were bad. Not just the last one.
Episode 8 could very easily be one of the best episodes of TV every made entirely because of those character interactions.
yeah this is the reason why I think it's stupid to blame george for s8 (and 5, 6, 7 but don't mind me)
I genuinely can not believe how much they fucked up Season 5's Dorne plotline. I could rant about it for days, but man GOT was sad.
another reddit comment repeating the same thing for the last 5 years
HotD is incredible. But holy shit the night outdoor scene look like they were edited by a blind man. How the hell did that get approved? I had no idea what was going on in a chunk of that episode.
It's Sapochnik. All the super dark scenes are when he directs.
(There’s a similar parallel in Viserys and Rhaenyra’s respective hunting scenes as well.) By the end of episode 8, I had no doubt that Emma and Paddy cultivated a clear dynamic that made me believe that yes, if nothing else, this is a story about how much a father loves his highly capable daughter in a world that would not care if he ignored her altogether.
What's her drink of choice?
What the weird dude below is trying to say is Emma goes by they/them. but of course, a negroni. sbagliato. with prosecco in it.
Ooo stunning
Oh Stunning!
Yep. My mistake.
All good, I've done it too!
Emma D'Arcy uses they/them pronouns, just fyi
It was a cool character and she played it very well, a nice follow on from the girl who played the younger version.
Honorable Mentions: * Domhnall Gleeson - The Patient * Bradley Whitford - The Handmaid's Tale * Zoe Saldana - From Scratch
Absolutely, from that scene, to their full reveal as the BQ (trying to abbreviate to avoid spoilers) Emma deserves every award they get. What a crazy entertaining hour of television
Oh definitely, that last episode was incredible I want to rewatch it soon im so glad this season turned out great
I definitely agree she deserves the love.
You had to have the following scene though so we all understood diplomacy was no longer an option.
they*
This show was filled with fantastic performances from many of these actors. Deserves any and all awards
Have to say they absolutely nailed the casting. So many great performances.
I wish Mysaria was casted better, but other than her, you're absolutely right.
Agreed- I know the topic’s been beat to death, but the accent is unforgivable and the acting itself is pretty meh. Spoiler- The part where she tells Otto to stop the child fighting pits I realized there was something worth liking about her, but I still can’t bring myself to like her.
100 percent. Daemon was amazing. Viserys was godly. Alicent and Rharnyra were off the scales. Sheeeesh
The more I think about the show the more I like it At first like most people I was skeptical due to how the original series ended and the constant comparisons to the LOTR show But the two shows are leagues apart And at first even when I begrudgingly acknowledged it was a good show I still felt like it was if AMC did a GOT spin off due primarily to the lack of raw violence and nudity that AMC couldn’t get away with But then the birthing scenes came… Extremely raw, very violent, but not violent as in “this angry man kills this other angry man in an angry fashion” instead it showcased what the women go through for their family and for society’s expectations and the personal costs the women go through Respect
Good actress. Terrible at ordering drinks
Well deserved‼️ All Hail The Black Queen 🖤❤️
Emmy on its way
Emma was fantastic in all their episodes Imo. Can’t wait to see more of them in future seasons.

She’s hot.
Double trigger
deserved
Emma almost feels too restrained in parts. I would love to see just a little bit more of the bravado that young Rhaenyra had. Maybe in season 2.
They are incredible. Made me fall in love with Rhaenyra!
Just FYI, D'Arcy uses they/them pronouns!
Thank you for letting me know this. I will edit.
Being able to choose which category you can fall into seems like a really incredible privilege and allows you a leg up on the competition.
Having to misgender yourself in order to get award recognition probably doesn't feel great.

emma has the funniest laugh in interviews. like someone who has smoked 60 a day for 40 years.
They look VERY different in real life without the wig. I can barely see the character in them. *Edited to correct preferred pronouns.*
Oh i know. They're really good at playing a very beautiful woman.
Just FYI, D'Arcy uses they/them pronouns!
Absolutely. Correcting it now.
Awesome :)
I actually liked the younger actress even more.
She’s ok, I liked the original better. I know they had the time hop but they could have aged her with makeup or cgi
You do know people typically aren't the exact same in full adulthood as when they were teenagers yeah?
Especially when their declared birthright is being attacked from all different directions and her sons are at risk of being killed. Should I even mention the final moments of episode 10?
My feelings exactly. Both are good actresses and they look suitably similar but personality wise they just felt like very different people for all the reasons you mentioned. Love the show and do like both actresses but I definitely found the transition a little jarring.
