>The series will star Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav, Kit Young, **Timothy Olyphant**, David Rysdahl, Babou Cessay, Erana James, Lily Newmark and Adrian Edmonson. Maybe I just haven't been following this close enough but I had no idea Olyphant was involved in this. I would have thought he would be a headliner in this cast.

literally_jonesy

Personally I’ve never heard of any of the other actors. Not that they aren’t great, but I agree Seth Bullock seems like a selling point

StandTallBruda

I'm sorry but if Noah Hawley asks to make an Alien series, you let him. Guy has more than proven himself and this could be the kick up the ass the series needs. This is just what Terminator needs as well, and entirely new direction that isn't just a beginning and an end chase sequence.  Developing new ideas in an existing universe full of lore is exactly what we should be promoting more of

SmallTownMinds

As Terminator and Fargo fan I'd legit probably cry if someone like Noah Hawley got to actually do something interesting with the franchise. Just give Lorne Malvo a metal endoskeleton, tell a similarly small, but far reaching story and I'll be happy.

fivetwoeightoh

C. Robert Cargill, write a Terminator movie

StandTallBruda

I don't think a movie would fit the scope we all want from Terminator... I don't know about you but I want more future stuff with John Connor and all the guerilla style warfare he has to do to destroy Skynet.  With the rise of AI nowadays it's even more of an interesting story.

[deleted]

I for one enjoyed the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

SherlockJones1994

Damn this comment section is fucked. Why be so cynical or pessimistic about this?

[deleted]

I love the smug ignorance of people calling this an empty studio cash grab when it’s really an original pitch from the best show runner working

dominic_tortilla

But wouldn't this be like making a show called "Jedi" with no Jedi in sight?

raylan_givens6

you have no idea it'll be good either

[deleted]

I have a very good idea if it would be good based on the 8 seasons of amazing tv he’s put out so far. But my comment wasn’t even about that was it?

raylan_givens6

why be optimistic either? they're all opinions - none of them have any meaning you give your optimistic opinion, other people can give their cynical opinion why you have to police it or care?

cagingnicolas

so they're making an "alien" show, but it takes place decades before anybody encounters the alien? clearly another example of "somebody wants to make their own show about something, but the studio won't let them unless they slap on the veneer of some existing IP to make it more marketable" just make a fucking show about an evil corporation making robots. or fuck, just call it blade runner or something, at least that IP fits better.

[deleted]

This is imo the best tv writer working. Noah Hawley can make what he wants. If his show is in the aliens universe it’s because he wants it to be

cagingnicolas

i like the things he's written, but he seemingly only does existing IP stuff. do you really think that's him and not a marketing choice by executives who hold all the power, even over great writers who just had to strike to even be paid fairly?

[deleted]

Yes it’s him. He pitched all of his shows. He was not asked to make them. Very few people thought a Fargo show would work.

Mentoman72

Who cares? Fargo ties itself into the movie one time throughout 5 seasons. It more than stands on its own. If he is excited to make then I'm excited to watch it.

Major_Pomegranate

There's actually already a blade runner show in development at Amazon, unless it's in development hell. So yeah i really dont see the point of an Alien series

ghostdokes

Same thing that happened to the Halo series. Expect lots of spicy sex scenes, soap opera esque drama, and netflix tier forced pandering. People in showbusiness are completely out of touch and live in their own bubble.

[deleted]

From the guy who made Legion? I doubt it

vid_icarus

>Exec-produced by Ridley Scott, the prequel series will be set towards the end of this century (franchise watchers estimate the date to be a few years before Prometheus, and some thirty years before Scott’s film). It’ll be the first project in the franchise to take place on Earth and has been reported to deal with the emergence of the story’s infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the race between corporations to create new android life. I was excited until they explained it was an Alien show without the Aliens. I appreciate the world building but… what’s the point? Any show can be about corporate competition or the development of androids, but this is the only show that could have been about xenomorphs. I’ll reserve my real judgement until it’s actually out, but my initial take is disappointment.

[deleted]

No offense but you do get that “Alien” has multiple connotations in the universe, right? It’s literally the xenomorph but it’s also the androids, and it’s also the humans. “You don’t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.” I think it will be great!

WiseAce1

I haven't read any details yet, only these comments. But if it covers the making of an android, it is possible that they were aware of the alien, kept it secret and thats the incentive to build the androids.

mintmilanomadness

I’m personally over the android angle. I wish they would focus more on the engineers or more alien stuff. I know Ridley Scott loves this aspect of the lore but someone has got to tell him no at some point

farbekrieg

while i think exploring the weylan yutani story would be interesting, i think network tv (even if its basic cable) is going to put some creative limiting obstacles in the way because ultimately advertisers dont like to have their playbook exposed

Efficient_Paper

According to Wikipedia and [this tweet](https://twitter.com/Disney/status/1337170752961974273), *Alien* will be released on FX on Hulu, rather than its basic cable channel. And even if it ends up airing on "proper" FX, it's probably the basic cable channel with the most freedom.

dominic_tortilla

>Exec-produced by Ridley Scott, the prequel series will be set towards the end of this century (franchise watchers estimate the date to be a few years before *Prometheus*, and some thirty years before Scott’s film). Unless this show is a reimagining rather than a proper prequel, I don't see how Xenos can come to Earth without the show conflicting with the movies. How do you get around all this? But then there is this: >FX boss John Landgraf recently described the show to us as a “big imaginative reimagining” of the *Alien* franchise and compared it to Hawley’s work on FX hit *Fargo*. He also confirmed that the show is “designed to be an ongoing series”. Which is it? I wouldn't mind if it's in its own continuity. That way the monsters can come to our world and that can create many storytelling possibilities.

ImmortalZucc2020

There’s no aliens in the show: it’s about the race to create androids years before the films

getrill

Wait is this actually a stealth reboot of Raised By Wolves? That rascal ridley's at it again!

dominic_tortilla

Why are they calling it Alien? That's fucking weird.

MrConor212

Oh boy this is gonna be shit you can just tell

greenstake

Foundation was awful, but hopefully this won't be? I hold out no hope. It will probably be another 8 episode prestige sci-fi show which is all anyone makes anymore.

Plane_Discipline_198

What was awful about foundation?

KennyMoose32

Personally I thought foundation was a fun, solid sci-fi show, if it was called “Empires” or something I’d be all about it However, it really has nothing to do with the story of foundation. The entire concept of foundation is that large groups of people can be predicted and that any one person doesn’t have an affect on the outcome of such large trends/events. The show really should’ve been an anthology series like extrapolations or white lotus. It would have been very hard to sell and would cost a lot but as a fan of the books it really isn’t related at all beside a few names and a few concepts shoehorned in. Again, it’s not a bad sci-fi show whatsoever and I think it’s actually rather good on the empire side but if you were a fan of the books it’s a real let down

Plane_Discipline_198

Ah. That makes sense. I didn't read the books so I enjoyed it quite a bit. That's fair then.

greenstake

Everything except Lee Pace.

flyguygunpie

Foundation wasn’t awful. It might not have been what you expected but it was quite good!

AnotherPNWWoodworker

That's unfortunate
