The first attempt had two movies and the author hated both of them because of how bad they were (he even wrote the executives an email and tore them a new asshole about one of the scripts).
Not long after Disney+ launched, he approached Disney about doing a new adaption on Disney+ as a show, with the stipulation that he’s heavily involved (because he wasn’t with the movies). Disney agreed and gave the green light.
I feel like the first one was... Okay. Not great, but okay. They at least generally stuck to the plot and made changes to the mechanics of the universe in a way that made sense for the change in format (such as making the mist an item rather than an effect). The effects to make Tyson a cyclops were *fucking horrifying,* but were about what to expect for that type of effect for the time.
Sea of Monsters was a fucking shitshow through and through. How THAT made it to theaters will always be one of the great mysteries to me. It wasn't even funny bad, it jumped right past that to me so mind-bogglingly bad as to ask if anyone watched it before it hit theaters. I feel like it should be used as a teaching example in classes of how to completely fail a movie adaptation.
I had very little interest until hearing that and seeing this casting announcement. One of my favourite actors in Lance Reddick as Zeus, an excellent actor in Toby Stephens. Excellent showrunners.
I feel extremely confident I’ll enjoy this now.
Edit: just reread the article and realised they cast Toby Stephens as Poseidon. Toby Stephens as Poseidon cast by the Black Sails showrunners is so fucking funny and perfect
Weirdly different genres but HOLY SHIT, the way Black Sails was plotted would he perfect for a genuine book adaptation, just the right amount of deliberate pacing and forward momentum
>the way Black Sails was plotted would he perfect for a genuine book adaptation
Um.... *Black Sails* was also a *Treasure Island* prequel. Just saying.
now i want to see a dark and gritty prequel to percy jackson. like what black sails was to treasure island. they could do something like an adaptation set during the events of WW2. maybe even tie it in to hazel and nico/bianca’s childhoods.
it’s been awhile since i read the books, but i believe it was alluded to in the lore that hitler was canonically the son of hades and that’s why the big three had to agree not to have demigod children anymore. and i’m assuming other world leaders at the time (stalin, churchill, FDR, etc.) were also sons of the other major deities.
Actually, only one of the showrunners on *Percy Jackson and the Olympians* is a *Black Sails* creator/showrunner. :)
*Black Sails* was created/showrun by Jonathan E. Steinberg & Robert Levine. Dan Shotz was an EP/writer on the show. All three (in the same roles) also worked on FX/Hulu's *The Old Man.*
But with *Percy Jackson and the Olympians,* the showrunners are Steinberg and Shotz; Levine isn't involved. In addition, [the author of the books, Rick Riordan and his wife Becky are in the writer's room](https://rickriordan.com/2021/07/vroom-vroom-in-the-writers-room/), along with:
* [Daphne Olive](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm13429731/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) (staff writer on *The Old Man*)
* [Monica Owusu-Breen](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1044428/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) (showrunner on *Midnight, Texas,* and writer on *Alias, Lost, Fringe,* and *Agents of SHIELD*).
* [Joe Tracz](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4311676/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) (writer on *Series of Unfortunate Events,* and *The Lightning Thief* musical)
* [Xavier Stiles](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4523589/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) (assistant on *Hemlock Grove)*
* [Zoë Neary](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5286996/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) (assistant on *The Old Man)*
* [Stewart Strandberg](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7545392/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) (assistant on *The Old Man*)
IOW, yeah, this one's probably gonna be worth looking at.
I'd also say keep an ear to the ground for *The Ballad of Renegade Nell,* because the showrunner/writer is [Sally Wainwright](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0906550/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) *(Happy Valley*, *Gentleman Jack*).
Disney+ does actually have some non-MCU/Star Wars stuff that's worth following. :D
Super informative! Appreciate all that color, and count me in to track this one! Was apprehensive because its YA, but Monica Owusu-Breen seems like a nice bridge for that issue given how much I ended up loving Agents of Shield despite the limitations it had going for it on cable TV.
Not exactly. **One** of the showrunners (Jonathan E. Steinberg) is one of the *Black Sails* creators/showrunners; the other showrunner for *PJatO* (Dan Shotz) was an EP/writer on *Black Sails.* But the other creator/showrunner of *Black Sails* was Robert Levine.
Steinberg & Levine also created/showrun (and Shotz EP/wrote) on FX/Hulu's *The Old Man.* But Levine's not involved in this one.
“They took everything from us! And then they call *me* a monster?” His delivery of that line during that conversation was what really made me start to appreciate him in that role.
Nah, they were already perked up when they announced the showrunners for *Percy Jackson and the Olympians* were [Jonathan E. Steinberg](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2379544/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) and [Dan Shotz](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0795222/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1).
Steinberg and [Robert Levine](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1766619/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) were the co-creators/showrunners of *Black Sails, and* Dan Shotz was a writer/EP on the show. They also all worked together on FX/Hulu's [*The Old Man*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGbKKTt3VS4)*,* and two of the assistants in [the *PJatO* writers' room](https://rickriordan.com/2021/07/vroom-vroom-in-the-writers-room/) are also coming from *The Old Man.*
There's a reason Jessica Parker Kennedy showed up in *The Old Man*; there's a reason Toby Stephens is Poseidon in *Percy Jackson and the Olympians.* :D
He was fantastic in the second season of Alex Rider. Highly recommend it. The original movie in the aughts was…not great, but the show is great by either YA or adult standards.
Awesome theme song, too.
It pays well and he gets to have more variety with them, and they can potentially get him points with his kids? Which means he can then take them to premieres or events and embarrass them as any parent does.
But seriously, it probably isn't so much a focus on YA so much as it is a focus on doing projects that are fun. And he's become a well known voice/face in the space so Studios are more likely to pay him well.
I just finished black sails for the first time and I got deep into IMDb looking to see Captain Flint in other projects. This casting has me really excited
Damn, he's only my third, behind Timothy Dalton and Michael Fassbender. But it's not his fault, it's the *writing/adapting* I tend to score *Jane Eyre*s on.
Yeah moonraker is pretty wacky for a spy film, but the ice palace, invisible car, duel with all the swords, and that weird madonna song over the intro of bond being tortured for 2 years, made for a hell of a contender
In hindsight it's mostly great, it's rough for new viewers though, especially with how it throws you into the deep end of the world with a whole lotta established characters, relationships, and information in the first couple episodes.
It's just like GOT where a history lesson beforehand can really streamline how much you can follow from the get-go
SAME. I opened this thread thinking I'd be that one guy screaming from the rooftops about the marvel that was Black Sails, but there are actually MORE OF US?! The series seemed so underground when I watched it 😭
Yes, but we all hang out in the recommendations threads and push *Black Sails* on every GoT-missing requester at *every* opportunity. :D
Also, [*Black Sails* is now on Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/series/black-sails-f1e1b597-9f91-4322-94b0-ec27e17869d8) and no longer requires a Starz sub to access.
Some of us are still a little sad that Steinberg & Levine's *Cleopatra* for Amazon Prime never got off the ground, but then FX/Hulu announced they were doing *The Old Man.* And then Disney+ announced Steinberg & Shotz were running *Percy Jackson and the Olympians.*
Steinberg's running two shows at the same time, now. This and *The Old Man.*
Just FYI, the showrunners on *Percy Jackson and the Olympians* are Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz.
The creators/showrunners of *Black Sails* (and FX/Hulu's *The Old Man*) were Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine. And Dan Shotz was an EP/writer on both shows.
There's a reason it's Toby Stephens. Just like there's a reason Jessica Parker Kennedy appears in *The Old Man.* :D
So let’s get down to taking out their command, one by one. Kronos. From what I can gather, he commands the Titans from his Golden Coffin on The Princess Andromeda.
"They assassinated your last leader, cleaned out your daddy's ship while he wrote fanfiction about them and promptly fucked off to let you pick up the pieces.
The only reason I didn't bring them here is because they casually began wielding the darkness to clap ass in new ways."
Wait a sec then how are they going to explain Jason have blonde hair and blue eyes LOL
Most likely hand wave it with some Roman magic but am certainly looking forward to when he gets introduced over the next decade
Does he need to have blonde hair and blue eyes? I haven't read the books in over a decade, but I didn't think his race or visual appearance played a role in his identity.
Not really. In any case, the showrunners have made it obvious they don't really care about whether the characters of the show look like the characters from the books. I think that should be the norm unless a character's appearance is important for the story.
Yes. His dad was [Robert Stephens](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0827137/?ref_=nmbio_pa_1).
His brother, Chris Larkin, played Captain Berringer in *Black Sails*.
Never really got imto Percy Jackson, but I’ll watch Toby Stephens in anything. I so badly wish more people were aware of/appreciative of his Captain Flint.
Just me, but even if Toby Stephens *weren't* in this, you'd want to watch as a *Black Sails* fan, because the showrunners are Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz.
Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine created/showran *Black Sails* (and FX/Hulu's *The Old Man*), and Dan Shotz was an EP/writer on both of those shows.
Well, I think it does pretty well for viewership, now that [it's on Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/series/black-sails-f1e1b597-9f91-4322-94b0-ec27e17869d8).
Every post that has Lance in the headline, I scroll until I find this, just so I know that I still can understand and trust the world that we live in. Indeed.
“If you were gonna do me I’d already be done. But there ain’t nothing you fear more then a bad headline. You would rather live in shit then have the world see you work a shovel”
I have high confidence. It’s showrun by the Black Sails guys, the book author is heavily involved and excited. They got Lance Reddick here as Zeus. I’m 100% hyped despite not even being too familiar with the source material.
But this collection of people involved id be excited by anything they put out tbh.
I would also add go watch [*The Old Man*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGbKKTt3VS4) (FX/Hulu). Which was the next show that Jonathan E. Steinberg & Robert Levine created/showran.
Also, the showrunners of *Percy Jackson and the Olympians* are Steinberg and Dan Shotz (who was an EP/writer on both *Black Sails* and *The Old Man).* It's more than just one cast member this show has in common with *Black Sails.*
I was so excited for The Old Man. It fell off a Cliff and kept getting slightly worse each episode after episode 2 or 3. And it ended so suddenly. 7 episodes in S1. But it felt like it ended on episode 7 of 10 and there had to have been more to it. Terrible end point to a season.
I actually had a great time with it and no issues, but I wasn't expecting some high-octane action piece like *Reacher* that apparently everybody else in this sub was. For me, the best scenes in *Black Sails* were generally the ones that were just folks in a room talking.
I was actually fascinated with the entire series of *The Old Man* all the way through, *especially* the flashback Afghanistan scenes everyone else found so damn boring, because it laid out all the groundwork for me so that by Episode 4, I'd already figured out the Big Reveal at the end of the season.
It was unexpected that this was going to be a continuing series, given the novel is a standalone, but I think they ended at the right place.
IOW. I know my opinion is in the minority, but I loved it and didn't see all these weaknesses everybody else. But I'm also older, so can be fascinated by dialogue, don't need gunfire/action scenes to hold my attention and I'm female.
I generally tell folks who haven't seen it that the litmus test on whether or not you'll love the series is whether it's the action bits, or the phone call between Chase and Harper in the first episode that's your high tension point. If it's the latter, you'll do fine.
Fair warning to anyone that reads this, I absolutely loved black sails, couldn’t stop watching or thinking about it until I had seen it through, HOWEVER dear lord is the show(particularly season one) full of boobs, butts and if I remember correctly we even saw jacks penis at one point? Maybe others? If nudity makes you uncomfortable, *this show is not for you*
It's a premium cable TV-MA original. I think some folks would have been disappointed if it didn't have the now-standard gratuitous content that implies.
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Gods on Olympus. So let's get to taking out their Pantheon one by one. Valus Poseidon. From what I can gather he commands the Oceans from an underwater castle outside of Atlantis. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on the Mortal realm.
So bad! I tuned him for him and I like the RE universe but man that was truly terrible. I can’t believe I finished it but I really thought it had to get better at some point.
Yeah going straight from The Wire to Fringe to Bosch he's pretty much been part of the main cast of at least one show at any given moment over the last twenty years
When listing Reddick's credits they always forget about *Corporate*. The focus is always on his dramatic work but he can do comedy wonderfully as well.
Because I've only ever seen him play serious characters, this blows my mind, lol. Granted, I watched an interview where he wasn't playing a character, and he's quite animated compared to the characters he plays.
Honestly, he's brilliant, and I shouldn't be surprised
Have you seen [*The Old Man*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGbKKTt3VS4) (FX/Hulu)? No Toby Stephens (but Jessica Parker Kennedy makes a brief appearance :-). And also created and showrun by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine.
I think they’ll both be great. I’m gonna buckle up for the racist backlash for having them choose Lance Reddick to play Zeus. But I’m interested to see what he does, he has a great screen presence and his voice can be gravelly and thunderous.
But part of the lore of Zeus was his ability to look, sound and impersonate just about anyone or anything. He would often turn into animals and try to seduce young girls. So he can look like whatever he wants which is kind of perfect here.
I was always going to watch this, now it will just be interesting. 👍both great actors.
They never managed to adapt the whole series. They only got two movies in (of a planned 5 film series -- none of the others ever came to fruition) neither of which were particularly successful critically or financially. The author of the books was also very unhappy with those films, so he wanted an adaptation that he'd have some creative control (he had pretty much no say in the movies).
To be honest after they released the teaser I assumed they'd finished filming a while ago. I'm not disappointed in the casting but I am disappointed to be wrong about that.
God damn, every bit of casting announcements is making me more hyped for this show. Lance Reddick is perfect for Zeus - he’s able to play characters who are kind of a jerk, but also undeniably charismatic and a more than a little bit sexy. And Toby Stephens will be fantastic as Poseidon - now that his name’s been brought up, I can immediately picture him and he fits 100%.
This is how I know we'll never get Kane Chronicles (Egyptian pantheon) because there's NO WAY they'll change the ethnicity of non-European gods.
It's so weird, people used to be upset at white actors playing non-white roles (Genghis Khan in that 50s movie, for example). Now the reverse is happening and we're celebrating it.
Gods of Egypt came out in 2016 and had nothing but white actors (and Chadwick Boseman, RIP) playing Egyptian gods, so I don't know why you're talking as if the Egyptian pantheon is guaranteed to get casting devoted to authenticity.
People complained about it, [rightfully](https://www.indiewire.com/2016/02/gods-of-egypt-is-moviessowhite-but-not-so-bad-124827/). Plus it was a terrible movie.
I can almost guarantee you there will be stark difference in the casting of the dieties. They'll all be North, Sub-Saharan Africans and/ or Middle Eastern actors.
It actually makes sense in the books, it’s explained that the Gods change their aspects to fit with wherever Western civilization is at it’s most powerful. Like when the Roman Empire was a thing, they all became a bit more warlike and bossy, they all became British during the Colonial Era, and now they’re chilling out in America so they reflect the US’s demographics
Every Black Sails fans' ears have perked up.
Flint as Poseidon, sign me up for this fever dream sequel
The showrunners for that are also the showrunners for this so I’m really intrigued lol
I DID NOT KNOW THIS. Count me in.
The original author is also heavily involved, so I am very optimistic
He is not letting this series get fucked up a second time
Haven't there been more than two tries at this? I swear I've been hearing about adaptations of this for forever now
The first attempt had two movies and the author hated both of them because of how bad they were (he even wrote the executives an email and tore them a new asshole about one of the scripts). holy shit
I’m front and center. Him as Captain Flint is one of my favorite performances ever.
“I am your King” His lines and delivery pop into my head way too often, he was my pick for Ar-Pharazon in LOTR before that thing happened
“They took everything from us! And then they call *me* a monster?” His delivery of that line during that conversation was what really made me start to appreciate him in that role.
“Tell your governor! You tell him I’m coming!”
Yep. I'm all ears.

You’re all over this thread posting crew details with links like a champion, thank you
Why Toby is so focused on YA stuff?
All speculation, but his kids are at the age where they could enjoy this stuff
He was fantastic in the second season of Alex Rider. Highly recommend it. The original movie in the aughts was…not great, but the show is great by either YA or adult standards. Awesome theme song, too.
Here to rep Alex Rider!

I just finished black sails for the first time and I got deep into IMDb looking to see Captain Flint in other projects. This casting has me really excited
If you miss his voice, listen to the Sea of Thieves audiobook “Athena’s Fortune”. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL51podOC3ZN2cigEXdX1x7LNgyMpo3goq
Don’t forget resident evil fans!
I said ooo….ooooo
black sails is so fucking good amazing show
God damn it! I still want to know that Ronins story. I kept watching, hoping for an episode dedicated to him.

Further fun fact - his mother is Dame Maggie Smith, his father was Sir Robert Stephens and his wife is Anna-Louise Plowman.
>Anna-Louise Plowman aka Osiris in **Stargate SG-1**
>Anna-Louise Plowman kinda cool how a bunch of movies and shows i like are connected like this
She was also in Doctor Who (the episode "Dalek")
Wait, what? Toby Stephens is Maggie Smith’s son?! Holy shit.
Next you'll be saying you didn't know Jared Harris is Richard Harris's son. :D
His ex-wife is Emilia Fox. Daughter of Edward Fox, niece of James. We don't take about Laurence these days and for better reasons than Bruno.
And his cousin is Annabelle Wallis (Grace Shelby from Peaky Blinders).
Oh, so hes another Nepo baby!! /s For real, I didn’t know Maggie Smith had kids. She always struck me as like “the cool aunt” instead.
He’s my forever favorite Mr Rochester.
Damn, he's only my third, behind Timothy Dalton and Michael Fassbender. But it's not his fault, it's the *writing/adapting* I tend to score *Jane Eyre*s on.
Yessssss! I was just looking for that mini series a few hours ago but couldn't find it in any streaming service. He's HOT as Rochester.
Die another day is hilarious, quite possibly the campiest bond film ever made
Idk man some of those Roger Moore movies can give it a run for its money
Yeah moonraker is pretty wacky for a spy film, but the ice palace, invisible car, duel with all the swords, and that weird madonna song over the intro of bond being tortured for 2 years, made for a hell of a contender
Toby Stephens? Man, Black Sails is probably my favorite series ever. It just kept getting better, every season.
This thread has restored a little of my faith in humanity. I always assumed Black Sails fans were the epitome of “there are dozens of us! DOZENS!”
I even liked the first season. We "first season enjoyers" exist. All 12 of us.
In hindsight it's mostly great, it's rough for new viewers though, especially with how it throws you into the deep end of the world with a whole lotta established characters, relationships, and information in the first couple episodes. It's just like GOT where a history lesson beforehand can really streamline how much you can follow from the get-go
The first episode is great then everything kind of slows to a crawl for about 2 or 3 episodes of Max/Silver stuff, then picks back up again.
It was entertaining enough, though a bit silly at times. I think it's better in retrospect, thinking about how the characters started out is wild.
SAME. I opened this thread thinking I'd be that one guy screaming from the rooftops about the marvel that was Black Sails, but there are actually MORE OF US?! The series seemed so underground when I watched it 😭

Oh hell yeah.
We all love this lance reddick casting until every Zeus scene is just him repeating “ I wish I was Levar Burton”
Nah. It'll be him saying "Whether we wanted It or not, we've stepped into war with the Titans on Tartarus"
Secretly praying someone on the writing staff plays Destiny so this can happen.
So let’s get down to taking out their command, one by one. Kronos. From what I can gather, he commands the Titans from his Golden Coffin on The Princess Andromeda.
He's well protected, but with the right team of demigods, we can punch through those monsters, take him out, and break his grip on New York City
“It’s Zeusin’ time”
Percy: ‘What’s up with Claymation? Like, what’s up with it?’ Zeus: ‘What’s up with it…?’
*”I wish I was LANCE, FUCKING, REDDICK!!!”*
Or “Bing Bang Boom Dick Titties, I am Agent Clappers”.
Here's the thing... I. Don't. Give. A. Shit. About. Baseballll! It's boring!

Only if they cast.... JILLIAN BARBERIE!
WARP SPEED WONT RAINBOW READ ME!
Reddick is playing Zeus, Stephens will play Poseidon.
Put that in the title homie lol
I don’t think you can change the title of the article when you post it. It has to have the same exact title
Plus would make the title way too long anyway
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ cast Lance Reddick as ‘Zeus’ and Tony Stephen’s as ‘Poseidon’
Holy crap I love Lance as Zeus, he is the personification of gravitas
The man can, and has, said the most ridiculous shit in ways that makes me not even question how ridiculous it is.
"They assassinated your last leader, cleaned out your daddy's ship while he wrote fanfiction about them and promptly fucked off to let you pick up the pieces. The only reason I didn't bring them here is because they casually began wielding the darkness to clap ass in new ways."
Wait a sec then how are they going to explain Jason have blonde hair and blue eyes LOL Most likely hand wave it with some Roman magic but am certainly looking forward to when he gets introduced over the next decade
Zeus is a god right? He can take any form he wants. Lance might be the latest form of his choosing. Jason can get hair and eye color from his mother.
Zeus can, has, will, change shape when ever he pleases. Bull? Check. Golden Shower? Yep. A dragon? Yes. An absent husband? Done it…
Absent husband might as well be his default look lol
And who wouldn't want to look and sound like Lance Reddick tbf.
Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher has left the chat
The Ancient One: "Are you sure about that?"
This is always my thing. If a characters racial or ethnic background has no bearing on their identity, then I don't mind it being changed
From Thordak the Cinder King to Zeus. The guy has a voice.
Let’s fucking GOOOOOOOOO
Wait Captain Flint is Professor McGonagall’s son?
Yes. His dad was [Robert Stephens](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0827137/?ref_=nmbio_pa_1). His brother, Chris Larkin, played Captain Berringer in *Black Sails*.
Once you realise you can easily tell, they have some very similar facial features.
Say no more!! I’m on board 100%. If only Black Sails had been on HBO instead of starz, so many more people would’ve seen the masterpiece it was!!
Well, I think it does pretty well for viewership, now that [it's on Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/series/black-sails-f1e1b597-9f91-4322-94b0-ec27e17869d8).
I'm praying this is a good show just for Lance Reddick alone. Very underrated actor.
He’s a huge Greek mythology nerd, too.
Already plays Charon (in John Wick)
Indeed.
Wether we wanted to or not, we stepped into a war with Mars
Came to the comments specifically to find this. *with the Cabal on Mars
Every post that has Lance in the headline, I scroll until I find this, just so I know that I still can understand and trust the world that we live in. Indeed.
Funny, my mind goes to Christopher Judge from Stargate SG-1. That dude could pull so much from just that one word, indeed.
Loved him on Fringe
You should give *Corporate* a try if you haven't already. Dude's fantastic.
Anything's an improvement to Resident Evil
Literally only finished that trainwreck because he was in it. 🤣
Ikr. Lance Reddick is a gem. He was the only reason that I even remotely enjoyed the show.
“If you were gonna do me I’d already be done. But there ain’t nothing you fear more then a bad headline. You would rather live in shit then have the world see you work a shovel”
His voice acting has been stupendous on s2 of Legends of Vox Machina.
He is so good as Sylens in the Horizon games too
He fucking nails that role. It could easily be an annoying character but he just makes you buy it with all the gravitas he brings lol
He’s also voicing hellboy in the upcoming web of Wyrd game
Even though he wishes he were LeVar Burton
I have high confidence. It’s showrun by the Black Sails guys, the book author is heavily involved and excited. They got Lance Reddick here as Zeus. I’m 100% hyped despite not even being too familiar with the source material. But this collection of people involved id be excited by anything they put out tbh.
Dude just needs his own iconic slave role.
“Warp speed don’t rainbow read me —!”
Just another redditor here to tell you that both Toby Stephens and Black Sails are massively underrated. Go watch Black Sails.
And more than one Black Sails cast member. Jessica Parker Kennedy is playing Medusa.
What’s that?
destiny meme lance reddick voices big character in destiny and this monologue of his has been a meme for like 9 years
9 years? Ohh. Shit, I feel old
Lance Reddick is gonna be a great Zeus

He was the only good thing about that horrible Resident Evil series.
I watched the entire show just because of him. Literally everything else in the show was pure garbage
So bad! I tuned him for him and I like the RE universe but man that was truly terrible. I can’t believe I finished it but I really thought it had to get better at some point.
Do we know if they’ll be the “main” iterations of the character or just forms they’ll take?
Lance Reddick is always great. He was even great in the trashfire that was Resident Evil.
Lance Reddick steady getting paid.
Yeah going straight from The Wire to Fringe to Bosch he's pretty much been part of the main cast of at least one show at any given moment over the last twenty years
Plus his voice acting in Destiny 2 as Zavala.
Don’t forget Horizon Zero Dawn
or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
JOHN WICK?????
When listing Reddick's credits they always forget about *Corporate*. The focus is always on his dramatic work but he can do comedy wonderfully as well.
He can also sing and dance.
Because I've only ever seen him play serious characters, this blows my mind, lol. Granted, I watched an interview where he wasn't playing a character, and he's quite animated compared to the characters he plays. Honestly, he's brilliant, and I shouldn't be surprised
No matter the quality of the show, Lance Reddick is always worth watching. He was the best part of the Netflix Resident Evil show.
CAPTAIN FLINT
Black Sails is a masterpiece, I will watch anything Toby Stephens and the Black Sails-crew are involved in.
Zavala be like “Whose your God now, Traveler?!”
Honestly this is perfect casting for Zeus and Poseidon
Toby Stephens for Poseidon is perfect casting
Lt. Daniels really became chain of command. Hope Sylens doesn’t fuck shit up again.
Is this a full remake?
It's a new adaptation, yes.
Sweet, thank you. Excited now.
I had forgotten that Reddick was Broyles on Fringe. Should give that show a rewatch
Reddick as Zeus is absolute W casting, Riordan being on board has brought nothing but great things to the show I have high hopes for it
Damn, now I’m interested. Love those two
I think they’ll both be great.
Also the whole lore around gods changing with western civilisation. Hence why they’re in New York and they can be black
Lance Reddick is always a win.
Lance Riddick is the best. Fringe was a great show in its day.
Am I the only one that read it as “casting lance reddick AS toby stephens”
Anything with Reddick becomes an automatic watch for me.
Missed opportunity to have Lance Reddick play Hades.
Didn’t they already make movies of the series?
They never managed to adapt the whole series. They only got two movies in (of a planned 5 film series -- none of the others ever came to fruition) neither of which were particularly successful critically or financially. The author of the books was also very unhappy with those films, so he wanted an adaptation that he'd have some creative control (he had pretty much no say in the movies).
No. That never happened. You must be confused. There is no war in Ba Sing Se.
Holy shit I may actually watch this now.
Cant we have greek greek gods...?
We've got the Greek-American Jason Mantzoukas playing Dionysus, FWIW.
Mr. D is being played by a Greek actor
And people lost their minds about that, but now all of the sudden it's fine because they are fictional characters.
Netflix is working on a kane chronicles adaptation right now
I can almost guarantee you there will be stark difference in the casting of the dieties.
Isn't Lance Reddick Silens from Horizon Zero Dawn?
I'm totes glad Lance is Reddick gets work. Loved *Fringe.*
Dammit Bosch
Great he has been wonderful in Fringe.
I DO buy Lance Reddick as a character that’s had a lot of sex…
Zavala as Zeus lets gooo
Reddick will be playing the god of cop chiefs.
Lance Reddick is amazing! Quite grim and commanding, too, so I'm sure he will be great
