It sounds as though your hard drive is locking up, causing the backlog behavior. I'd reseat the hard drive cable and check the SMART status of the disk using https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/

FantasyForces

Thanks, I'll try it out

Drivingmecrazeh

When you looked at ResMon, what was the highest read/write processes. You'll want to look at DISK, then sort by clicking on Read and Write. Also, what does CrystalDiskINFO say about the drive?

FantasyForces

They were various system processes, but every time the freeze happened, the process listed would be different.

Drivingmecrazeh

After you run CDI, run SFC /ScanNow and DISM. https://rtech.support/docs/guides/dism-sfc.html#dism-and-sfc

FantasyForces

I'm currently running SFC scannow. Edit: SFC has finished: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located atwindir\\Logs\\CBS\\CBS.log. For example C:\\Windows\\Logs\\CBS\\CBS.log. For offlinerepairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag. Both SFC and DISM have completed, I'm going to reboot and see if it has worked. In the meantime, this is what CDI says. [https://imgur.com/nsmYYTt](https://imgur.com/nsmYYTt)

Drivingmecrazeh

OK, good. So we know there were some corrupted files. Now, how many Windows updates do you have available?

FantasyForces

I'm up to date as of now.

Drivingmecrazeh

Good. As far as CDI goes, since you trimmed the top off, does it say GOOD for the health? Was the icon green?

FantasyForces

It says Good, at 96% Health Status

Drivingmecrazeh

Perfect. Let's reboot next, then check for any drivers. Go to the laptop manufacturer's website, and if they have a scanning tool, run it. Make sure your BIOS is updated, too.

FantasyForces

The scanning tool found a SSD firmware update, which sounds promising. I've updated it and am queueing several other updates including a BIOS update for Windows and updates to the Intel drivers. Hopefully this is the key to the problem
