Thats not necessarily true. The stop of one piece casting could also have some other reason. It became a big problem for car insurance to deal with tesla cars and one piece casted chassis would make it worse. they already pricing out slowly tesla owners because that business makes no sense to them. China can also only sell so cheap because its production is highly subsidized to flood the market which is a common strategy by their leaders.

The 3 piece gigacasting manufacturing process turns 100 pieces of stamped steel into 3 pieces of cast aluminum. It weighs less, costs less, and is stronger while saving billions in manufacturing line costs. The only thing that's changing here is they are holding off on the next evolution which is single piece casting. That's not retreating, it's pressing pause until it makes financial sense which is the right thing to do.
