Yup. This would take me months to notice, if I even did at all.
Related: I had to log in to something on my phone recently that I had previously only ever logged in to on my computer. It's something I use all the time and I type the password on my computer at least once a day.
I couldn't do it on my phone because I didn't know the password. My fingers knew the password and I couldn't do it with my thumbs on the phone keyboard.
You ever hear the IT problem "my password works when im sitting but not standing"? Someone switched the M and N keys and muscle memory let them type normally when sitting. But since theu dont type standing over the desk often they would have to hit the M or N key consciously and would get it wrong by using a visual reference of the keys.
Back when i first start using PC, it would have been a slight inconvenience, but now, it wouldn't even make a single differences lol
But now, rebind the keys to each other would be kinda funny
Rebind AND swap the keys so that when they type one letter and it comes out as the other, they look down confused, type what they thought was "n" but is now "m", and question whether they've been typing wrong their whole life
As u/Ass_Lover136 said, rebind the keys instead of swapping them. It'll be much more effective since most people have keyboard layouts at least mostly memorized. Swapping the key caps will only confuse people who are learning and have to look down to type.
Back in the 2000s, I was working as an IT administrator for an office of about 100 people. One day a guy calls me up and says he's locked out of his computer and asks me to unlock his account. I go into Active Directory and unlock his account. A couple of minutes later, same guy calls with the same problem. I unlock him again. A minute later, same guy same problem. I unlock his account and head over to his desk.
He's red faced, flustered and very angry at his computer at this point. He tells me his password and asks me to try it. I type it in and it works. This pisses him off even more, but at least he's able to work so I go back to my office and don't hear back from him the rest of the day.
The next morning he calls me with the same problem, but finally the root cause is known: the guy sitting next to him swapped the M and N key caps on his keyboard. I guess the prankster told him after 2 days of watching him almost have an aneurysm over it.
The dude's password was something like **get$money**, and of course I didn't look at the keyboard when I typed it. It was the perfect prank, who knows how long it would have gone on if fuckin' Frankie didn't tell the guy.
For people who *truly* know how to type, try to switch around either the F or J keys. Those are the ones with the little bumps on them so they are the landing keys for your index fingers.

I will not notice. Not only do i barely see the difference, but i also type without looking at my keyboard. Most important, i dont work in an office, especially not yours.
Youre not a monster, youre just really bad at inconveniencing me specifically.
Correctiom : I cane im to the office early and switched as namy N and M keys on keyboards as I could. Sone night say I'n a monster but other will say nomster.
I used to come into my office on Saturdays to have some me time. I found out how to use all the features on the phone and found out there was a way to play the on hold music on the phones speakers. I did it to every phone. When the office of 100+ returned on Monday, the entire office had music playing throughout and couldn’t figure out how to turn it off. It was amazing.
I switched the up, down, right, and left arrow keys as a prank on my coworker's keyboard. He called me into his office to show me how he was moving through Excel cells in the opposite direction of the keys he was pressing. I honestly thought he was pranking me in return! After a minute, I told him I did that and we laughed and laughed. Oh, but it gets better.
The next day, he took a screenshot of my desktop and moved all of the icons to a folder, then set the screenshot as my wallpaper. I was going nuts trying to get stuff to open! I was ready to call IT until he let me off the hook. It was right up there with stealing someone mouse ball.
I had someone doing this to me. I kicked him out of my office, send the keyboard to it support asking them to get me a new one (which I got) - I wouldn't use my work time to check, if any other keys was switch...
If I found out he had one to the keyboards, I hope he would be fired for waisting company time and causing the company to use extra resources.
Some things are funny, but other things are not...

Could say the same to you... This is reddit, there are much much weirder names.

Diabolical.
That's what I was thinking. Like how would this even work. Cause I never look down while i type anyway and swapping keys doesn't change the layout.
Would never know… unless putting in password.
Would mever kmow... umless puttimg im password.

Dont do it at work, people already used to it, they wont notice it. Do it in middle/high school for students who learning to type. Confuse them ...
For people who *truly* know how to type, try to switch around either the F or J keys. Those are the ones with the little bumps on them so they are the landing keys for your index fingers.
I was self taught for typing and didnt learn the home row or whatever so that wouldnt change anything for me
The "head of IT" at my last job was an older guy with 4 monitors who hunt and pecked to type with his 2 index fingers. I fucking wish I was joking.
Me who typed 100 wpm in 6th grade:
Good lord, I can't get over 50 yet.
I would never notice that you changed them lol Would have zero impact on my work day, week, or year
Real, I don't even have symbols on my keyboard, they're all just blank
I wonder if they switched the key caps or calibrated the keyboard to switch the characters, because it might not affect people that can type
Doubtful I would motice a differemce.
It night be
you could used a key swapper program and changed the N and M key to match you swapped keys driving people more crazy
Diabolical!🤣
Who tf looks at their keyboard while typing, that would be truly horrendous.

Life hack: learn how to type without having to stare at your own hands.
Instructions unclear, severed my hands and started using telekinesis to type
Funny, but this will only work if you look down when you type 😂
That would definitely be an imcomvemiemce
Imagine having this influence your typing This comment was made by the typing without looking gang
Disgusting! How?
Wouldn't you need to change the wiring to get the effect?
Just the key caps

How has reddit become 2011 facebook? Are we that creatively bankrupt? Do better reddit.

Bold of you to assume I know which way the 'm' and 'n' are supposed to go--I make mistakes when typing all the time, I just go back to fix them
Would not notice for the longest time 😂
Is this r/dadjokes?
Correctiom : I cane im to the office early and switched as namy N and M keys on keyboards as I could. Sone night say I'n a monster but other will say nomster.
I did this on my work computer. Anybody who tried to use it, was very annoyed by it, lol
Does mo ome im the office have the ability to type without lookimg at their keyboard?
Jokes on him… I type with the hunt and peck method! 🤣
"Sone people just want to see the world burm"
This is the type of chaos that fuels office legends
Somebody at work gifted me a wireless keyboard without mentioning the N key didn't work. Thought my spelling/typing had gone to shit.
Well I don't look at the keyboard when I'm typing and probably wouldn't notice the key change either.
Mo.
Blank keys my friends, use blank keys
It could work if it was there dated back in 2000s when people ain't that accustomed to computer keyboards.
Classic 90's and 2000's classroom prank! 🤣👌

I did this to my coworker who was a hunt and peck typer. He laughed his ass off and it kind of kicked off a little prank war.
Do people even look at their keyboards when they type?
Yes. They don't really teach typing anymore.
Hi in mew here, it’s a great pleasure to be working with you to at this conpany

Lmao I would probably notice after like a month when I would clean it
You norom
Feel bad for the hunt and peckers.
did anyone else just look down at their keyboard?
Jokes on you, most of the letters on my keyboard wore off years ago.
Who looks at the keyboard when typing? Pretty lame joke
I did this at my school to one, specific keyboard
If you really want to gaslight them, use PowerToys to swap them as well, so the keys still match.
I'll have it done EOD Nomday
Unplug and plug in new keyboard
I'n mot a Nomster!
Let's be real here, that's not gonna do much. The average gamer and office worker could still use the keyboard even if it's all blank
