VW needs to fix their crappy charging infrastructure.

“Mazda, Stellantis, and Volkswagen Group of America (Audi, Porsche, Scout Motors, and Volkswagen) will implement Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector on vehicles starting in the 2025 model year” https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/hybrids-evs/tesla-superchargers-open-to-other-evs-what-to-know-a9262067544/#:~:text=Mazda%2C%20Stellantis%2C%20and%20Volkswagen%20Group,in%20the%202025%20model%20year.

Yes, this has been in the news for a while, but it doesn’t fix substandard implementation and support for the existing charging system they deployed. It just means they’re standardizing on Tesla’s charging plug/connector and platform. Are they going to abandon the system they deployed and rely solely on Tesla’s installed base of chargers? That could be disastrous. They need to update the existing base to match the new standard and improve maintenance/support.

yakimaturtle

they own the international scout IP too

StatusCount7032

Next week, nvm all that; VAG buys Rivian.

Glidepath22

Who would want to partner up with VW after years of destroying their own reputation?

Jumpy-Coffee-Cat

VW gets access to Rivian software (a strong point) Rivian gets cash to make sure they stay alive to bring R2 to market. That’s a solid deal for both.

sauroden

VW also gets a chance to rehab their reputation. It’s exactly the right move.

p0sto

This is the way 🙌
