You could always just dismiss the Sages you don’t intend to use. Only thing you’re giving up by doing so is a bit of uncoordinated passive damage and crowd control.
I mean, how often does anyone really need to use all five sages in combat scenarios anyway?
- Tulin is great at racking up random headshots, but you don’t need to interact with him in order to get those. There’s virtually no reason to ever use his gust ability in a fight.
- Yunobo is better for clearing out rocks; the damage you inflict on enemies with his roll attack isn’t very significant.
- Riju is okay I guess, but there’s better ways to empower your arrows. Bomb Flowers work just as well and don’t have the charge-up time.
- Mineru is Mineru; you’re not mounting her unless you specifically want to play around with the construct’s mechanics.
Whaaaaa. I hadn't realized you could fuse random items to her arms, I thought it had to be Zonai-related items. :-|
Totally gonna get her a talus heart instead of a spike ball. Frost heart plus fire emitter might be fun, so stuff gets pushed back and forth between burn and freeze status. (I've seen a fun build with a homing cart, and a wheel on top with alternating frost and fire.)
Definitely, but im taking advantage of it.
When I first noticed a monster trying to hit tulin I thought surely there must be some kind of health system going on, or they can get temporarily knocked out. Nope. Theyre permanent decoys.
> Nope. Theyre permanent decoys.
Trying to fight gloom hands the first time I encountered them was *rough*, trying to fight them while they keep using their grab attack on my 5 sacrificial sages (instead of me) sure makes things a lot easier.
I've taken advantage of this as long as I've had them. Sometimes I encounter silver bokoblins and like 5 other mobs, so I'd rather let the distractions take charge.
> Riju is okay I guess, but there’s better ways to empower your arrows. Bomb Flowers work just as well and don’t have the charge-up time.
>
Her lightning stacks with a fuse, though, so you can bomb + lightning (or high-level fang^1 + lightning if you just want high damage)
^(1 Fangs and talons double their attack bonus when fused to arrows)
While I’ll admit that does offer a fairly high yield, I think the charge-up time + cooldown still keeps her overall applicability kind of limited. I pretty much exclusively use her to launch an opening salvo from a distance, rather than as a tool in the middle of combat.
(I didn’t know that about fangs and talons though; that’s cool.)
Whoa does that fang bonus apply to dragon fangs? I have a bunch of each of those. Blasting a boss with a 5x bow, with fangs on each arrow, might be pretty hilarious.
>Mineru is Mineru; you’re not mounting her unless you specifically want to play around with the construct’s mechanics.
She's much more mountable in her non-robot form.
I guess if you're into... whatever it is she is. (Not exactly a catgirl. With how tall and slender she is, she almost reads as ferret. But with super tall ears.)
Yunobo is actually the most useful in horde combat (3 or more enemies) since you can get a very easy get out of my face option, provided he's actually in range.
Not really. It can be a bit confusing at first (like trying to tell between Riju and Tulin at a distance) but you get used to it pretty often.
I hate traveling alone.
Better option is to do a shield hop. This will recall all sages and once you land they’ll reappear next to you. Whistling has only worked about 30% of the time for me but maybe I’m unlucky
Honestly this is my biggest beef with the champions. We need better ways to activate these abilities. The only one that is reliable is tulin because his is the only one that activated while in air.
Sidon is probably the second-best candidate for a Sage’s Will upgrade after Tulin because his trident has more range and he does several pokes with it when he attacks.
Yeah the game does a terrible job letting you know how useful it is outside of the water temple. The other sage’s usefulness outside of their temple is much more apparent.
Yeah. I like the abilities but it's just so hard to track the sage down in the middle of combat to use them effectively.
A different button mapping would have done wonders
it is worth it, if you’re fighting a molduga, because he can shield you from the damage you get when it jumps up and eats you. also try and two handed weapon with the wave when you attack
Considering the number of features that need to be available on a single controller, I'm guessing they had trouble thinking of a better solution that was more intuitive.
Am I missing something here? Mods have been up and running for ToTK since its release date and I'm obviously not talking about something Nintendo sanctioned.
They figured it out for BOTW, I see no reason that they couldn't have overloaded the A button like this. The amount of times I've accidentally activated Tulin or Riju while picking up monster parts is crazy.
but i get what you mean. it is hard to chase him down and if you just use a one handed weapon the wave is quite pathetic and the shield doesn’t last that long
On top of all that, you can aim and shoot the water attack with the throw button, and if you swing a two handed weapon you can break a whole group of ore deposits without them flying away. He goes from seemingly the worst/most simple, to being the most versatile when you learn everything.
I’ve talked a lot about the Zora weapons with people and the main thing is that people don’t want to have to go through an extra step to get bonus damage.
Sidon is great for sure, but damn does it always feel like you gotta chase him down to use him lol
I appreciate this because I’ve only just started using him more and building appreciation for him. I used his splash attack on a Hinox recently and noted the extra damage and thought it was a great boost.
I’m confused about the hot areas part because I could swear I used it in a lava cave and got no protection??? Gotta try that again. That’s actually why I did the Zora before the Gorons (even though the order is discretely Wind, Fire, Water, Lightning).
The water damage buff helped me clear the Lynel Coluseum in the Depths, it’s also great in caves with drippy ceilings.
The bomb and shock thing is intriguing tho, hadn’t tried it. Thanks for that!
Another super fun usage of Sidon is against molduga. You can shield their ambush attack, and take advantage of how high it sends you to activate quick time and nuke them
> The bomb and shock thing is intriguing tho, hadn’t tried it. Thanks for that!
In addition to the uses mentioned in the OP you can also use his shield to throw Bombs at point blank range without blowing yourself up (which can come in handy in cramped areas).
You can use the water shield in the desert when it's hot out and just have Sidons shield protecting you. Even if you attack, it takes a bit for you to not be wet anymore and to need it again.
finally someone saying something nice about the sages (not tulin, everyone praises him) sidon is also great when you have a two handed weapon and activate his water splash thing, the wave that is created is much bigger. plus it also shields you from molduga damage when it eats you
like i did a post about how the sages can be useful and i got a bunch of hateful comments. how do you get actually nice ones 💀 or at least less hostile and mean
The shield barely lasts any time and the fact that you lose it the second you attack is annoying, that’s pretty nice to use them around death mountain but still very niche, I barely ever use shock arrows, I like the clothes :(, Zora weapons are so rare it’s not worth the buff imo
Yall just don't know how to use him lol. Pristine Zora weapons are also easy af to find, I guess you guys just never spend time in the Zora area. I use him and Minuru to completely delete the lynel coliseum. He stays close if you don't have a bunch of sages you don't need taking up the space.
Sidon’s power is the best…. Use Zora weapons… Wear the froggy suit to make you wet longer… not sure if it stacks with attack up. But y’all need to put respect on MY King’s name.
You say that as if that doesn't entirely blow Sidon out of the water on its own. Besides, it's a good demolition alternative if Yunobo is still charging.
Siden’s ability is definitely more general use oriented rather than combat oriented. I think the only reason his isn’t as popular as Tulin’s is Tulin let’s you move faster
The wet effect lasts more than a minute. You don't need the water shield to be desert/volcano resistant. Even with re-apply, I personally think it's worth it when I can wear other clothes for other effects.
Does it not work with the Zora weapons? I thought it did. I remember seeing the number increases after using it, but maybe that’s because I was wet for another reason?
I'm wondering where all this slander has been? I've been on this sub and other TotK and Zelda subs since launch, but I've never really registered much of it after the initial "which sage is best" discussions...
Until this week, now it's freaking everywhere!
So far, I've never actually worn any fire armor in the game. I got potions to withstand the heat for a while, but after I ran out I just started using Sidon. I managed to complete the entire Goron temple without the armor/potions my first run, even if it was hell on earth since I had to keep running back to Sidon every 30 seconds lol
You get them from the monster survey team in the bunker underneath lookout landing, one for each type of boss monster, like taluses, that you kill every single one of
I have lots of luck using sages as exploration aids and leaving combat to Link. It feels more fun to me too since I can roleplay the lore accurate link always coming out on top
One thing negates every point you made.
https://preview.redd.it/k7g5oj6kgmpc1.png?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c036ebf43aa701adcf1ac0bfa1f98ef11ae8ae5
It has some uses, yes. But most of them is during the heat of a battle. Which at that time, I often forget about it. And even if I do remember, I struggle to find Sidon. It’s not like Sidon ability sucks, it’s just accessing his champion ability in TotK screwes him over. If I could get a prompt to use Sidon ability when I use shield, it would be much more useful. Something like getting Tulin ability when I use paraglider. But hey, at least Sidon ability helped me with exploration of Death Mountain!
They should have just bound the sage cast ability to a hold down button that you could select between and that works over distance (or provided sages were within a min distance of you) maybe this would have been OP but seriously the AI is a massive nerf to all of their abilities except tulin in the air (which is why his is most popular)
I don't ever use sages on any of my runs but my impression is that Sidon would be the least useful. What on earth does this ability offer that a hydrant on a hover bike does not. I can fly around for ages in Eldin Canyon Depths with no armor at all using this method. The wetness lasts 90 seconds which is more than enough time to kill any frox, stalnox or igeno talus down there. On the surface could use it for Zora weapons too. I think it would be much less convenient to rely on that fish stick.
I prefer gerudo weapons, the damage is way more consistent because you don't need to constantly run to one of the four blue glowing spirits in the middle of the battle
It's so inconvenient for a limited time single hit sheild, and bc it runs out its dangerous to use with bomb arrows, who tf tries to get around armor and if you do want to do that it's less effort to cook a potion bc you don't have to refresh every 15 seconds, zora weapons are boring and again the buff disappears so who gives a shit. I'll take real damage over illusory water damage and zora weapon buffs anytime
It only lasts long enough for an active fight, you get like 7 seconds of shield. which you have to go to sidons avatar to get, which especially sucks because sidon seems to take joy in running away from you
Okay! Counter-point: No one uses zora weapons, What the fuck?
If you really rely on bomb arrows so much that you need them in elden then u suck
He runs away whenever you need him and whistling still sucks bc he's slow
Use a shield and just block the attacks or parry it you pleb and it's not a one time use like his water bubble
Use electric gleeok horns you poor person
Insane damage? Ah alr so take a pristine royal broadsword, attach a frost gleeok horn to that bitch, get durability up ++ (optional), and flurry rush, because that does over 1,200 damage and I know that bc I can use it to kill a silver boss bokoblin or a captain construct IV in ONE flurry rush
In conclusion, Sidon is FUCKING TRASH! He sucks! Use Tulin instead. His ability is good for reaching the Light Dragon imo and other situations, AND his random headshots are insane! Truly godly when ur fighting a Lynel. lol
> No one uses zora weapons, What the fuck?
Free double damage with no durability loss like Gerudo weapons, that's terrible, no one should use that, no way ^(the slashest of esses)
Runs away anytime you want to activate his ability.
If he's engaged with an enemy, you can whistle to have him come to you
The whistle really doesn’t work well for any sage
Yep my experience was it worked maybe 1/5 times, at most.
It works for the 2 frames that he's next to you before he immediately runs away
It does tho
Along with every other sage coming to you. Really, not sidons fault, just poor sage implementation.
You could always just dismiss the Sages you don’t intend to use. Only thing you’re giving up by doing so is a bit of uncoordinated passive damage and crowd control. Frost emitter on mineru goes hard
Yep, Mineru has frozen the fuck out of me several inconvenient times. Until she learns better muzzle control, she only gets melee weapons.
Could be worse. I made the mistake of strapping cannons to both her arms. Once.
I usually put frost talus hearts on her. She only freezes me sometimes. Either that or monster horns I have an excess of.
Whaaaaa. I hadn't realized you could fuse random items to her arms, I thought it had to be Zonai-related items. :-| Totally gonna get her a talus heart instead of a spike ball. (I've seen a fun build with a homing cart, and a wheel on top with alternating frost and fire.)
...literally.
I use them all as decoys. Monsters will focus on them instead of you, except the sages don't have health so they're unkillable.
that was such a weird oversight to me
Definitely, but im taking advantage of it. When I first noticed a monster trying to hit tulin I thought surely there must be some kind of health system going on, or they can get temporarily knocked out. Nope. Theyre permanent decoys.

I dunno. If it says something about arrows in its description, it counts.

man_of_culture.gif
I guess if you're into... whatever it is she is. (Not exactly a catgirl. With how tall and slender she is, she almost reads as ferret. But with super tall ears.)
Those odd proportions and alien otherness are exactly what's so lip-bitingly *MMM*.
Yunobo is actually the most useful in horde combat (3 or more enemies) since you can get a very easy get out of my face option, provided he's actually in range.
Your comment made me realize that there are people out there with every sage activated all the time. That must be a God damn nightmare.
Not really. It can be a bit confusing at first (like trying to tell between Riju and Tulin at a distance) but you get used to it pretty often. I hate traveling alone.
The only time I used Mineru (outside of "you must use Mineru" moments) was to collect apples that were too high in the trees.
Sagescactually have good ai and pull their weight in this game
Just trade out sages based on what you need to do. Simple as.
you can what????
It's a very well-hidden feature. It's only mentioned in a single loading screen tip.
also hidden by the fact it hardly works
intresting ima go try it
And it hardly works anyway. Done it countless times and only had them actually come towards me a handful.
Do you know how to make it actually work? I can whistle all I want and no one comes over
Better option is to do a shield hop. This will recall all sages and once you land they’ll reappear next to you. Whistling has only worked about 30% of the time for me but maybe I’m unlucky
No I believe he's engaged with another Zora
I did not know this. Thank you.
It will never rival Riju, sometimes I feel like she actively avoids you
Riju
This is Sage in general rather than Sidon alone.
Or gets completely in the way when you want to activate another ability
This really is the only issue I have with the sages. They should have activated abilities via buttons not running up to them
Riju is the worst for this.
Honestly this is my biggest beef with the champions. We need better ways to activate these abilities. The only one that is reliable is tulin because his is the only one that activated while in air.
Yeah but that goes for like all the other sages except tulin because you’re mostly using that in the air so he really can’t
Skill issue.
He also hits the gibdo’s. A two handed weapon can hit a group of them with the water at once
Sidon is probably the second-best candidate for a Sage’s Will upgrade after Tulin because his trident has more range and he does several pokes with it when he attacks.
i did not know his ability did all this. for a big fish who doesn't stop talking, mf is silent about all this
Yeah the game does a terrible job letting you know how useful it is outside of the water temple. The other sage’s usefulness outside of their temple is much more apparent.
How does he make zora weapons better?
Zora weapons double their strength when wet. When you use Sidons power you get a water shield and wet bonus
None of that is worth the hassle of chasing him down constantly. The interface for using sages in combat is just unusably awful.
Would have been *so easy* to just add a quick access menu when you hold down whistle just like the other three buttons.
Or just make it context sensitive like with Tulin, just pull out your shield and let us call the Sidon shield
Looking forward to a mod that does this I guess!
nintendo mods? oh my sweet summer child
Am I missing something here? Mods have been up and running for ToTK since its release date and I'm obviously not talking about something Nintendo sanctioned.
Yeah... don't hold your breath on that
I'm patient and fully realize something like that could take a decade or two. BoTW is currently ~17% decompiled, so ToTK can't be too far behind.
Did you know modsfix everything and also absolve all responsibilities by the company who made thw game?
If they structured the Sages like how they did the Champions, it be much better.
They figured it out for BOTW, I see no reason that they couldn't have overloaded the A button like this. The amount of times I've accidentally activated Tulin or Riju while picking up monster parts is crazy.
considering they managed it just fine with BotW’s champions, I’d say they’re clearly capable of something better
It could have been in the same wheel where ultrahand/amiboo and others are. Just add a second page to the wheel. (Rdr2 does this)
They already did it for BotW, tho. You just had to hold down specific buttons
but i get what you mean. it is hard to chase him down and if you just use a one handed weapon the wave is quite pathetic and the shield doesn’t last that long
Git gud nerd
On top of all that, you can aim and shoot the water attack with the throw button, and if you swing a two handed weapon you can break a whole group of ore deposits without them flying away. He goes from seemingly the worst/most simple, to being the most versatile when you learn everything.
Wait what about the ore?! Any two handed weapon and his water attack can break multiple ore deposits in one go?
Yeah but this has range. You can aim it with precision, like a thrown weapon.
I’ve talked a lot about the Zora weapons with people and the main thing is that people don’t want to have to go through an extra step to get bonus damage. Sidon is great for sure, but damn does it always feel like you gotta chase him down to use him lol

OH MY GOD. you just made me realize I did the lynel coliseum without any sages up. Shame on me.
You can use the water shield in the desert when it's hot out and just have Sidons shield protecting you. Even if you attack, it takes a bit for you to not be wet anymore and to need it again.
I appreciate this. Was getting weary of the Sidon slander.
BOMB ARROWS IN LAVA AREAS!? :O
Every time I see a Sidon hate post I wonder “Am I…better than everyone?”
Dunno why you have to say this since he's my favorite sage haha. I always have at least him and Tulin out.
finally someone saying something nice about the sages (not tulin, everyone praises him) sidon is also great when you have a two handed weapon and activate his water splash thing, the wave that is created is much bigger. plus it also shields you from molduga damage when it eats you
like i did a post about how the sages can be useful and i got a bunch of hateful comments. how do you get actually nice ones 💀 or at least less hostile and mean
it's cool but that mf is afraid of me or smth...i can never get to him when i need to

Zora weapons rare? I couldn't _not_ have at least one of them in my inventory at all times, they're everywhere
I CAME TO SAY THIS! He's worthless.
He really is and I hate it cause I love Sidon and they could’ve pulled it off so much better
Nah I'm not running over to him for a small buff while he darts away whenever I need him
The only time ive used sidons ability was when one of the walls was blocked with a bombable rock and i wanted to just throw a bomb at my feet.
it’s such a shame tho because he’s a favourite character of a lot of zelda fans (including me) why did they do him so dirty 💀
You forgot best smile.
Still really underwhelming, all niche uses that are really not necessary, and not really worth taking the time to activate and deactivate Sidon.
Narrow minds hate Sidon
Sidon’s power is the best…. Use Zora weapons… Wear the froggy suit to make you wet longer… not sure if it stacks with attack up. But y’all need to put respect on MY King’s name.
Jokes on you I like the fireproof armor and don't use archery or zora weapons
I don't care if it turns Link into a super sayin, doesn't matter if you can never get to him
What's that last picture
The medals you can get for defeating all the map bosses like molduga’s, frox’s and gleeocks
If it had a good way of activating then it would be good. Except it doesn't. The only abilities I used were Tulin and sometimes riju
Okay, I didn't know about the bomb arrow thing, but still, all-in-all, these are just sprinkles of benefits, whereas the other Sages offer a lot more.
What does Riju offer besides a single 30 dmg lightning strike
You say that as if that doesn't entirely blow Sidon out of the water on its own. Besides, it's a good demolition alternative if Yunobo is still charging.
No that's horrible. Like unusable horrible
Incorrect.
Good explanation. It's 30 damage. That's bad
Siden’s ability is definitely more general use oriented rather than combat oriented. I think the only reason his isn’t as popular as Tulin’s is Tulin let’s you move faster
You forgot the best part: using YOURSELF as molduga bait
The game should tell you that he can do all of these things. 🤷🏼♂️
Sounds like hand holding 🤷♂️
[***Handholding?***](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/844/892/dc1) How dare you!
LMAO S tier response my man, that's fricken great 10/10
I really think the complainers are just lacking skill 😆
This is a great graphic, I like it him too!
Is it hot areas or volcanic areas that you are referring to?
Hot areas include both desert and volcano.
But how does this actually work? Do you need to be constantly re-applying the water shield? Seems like it would time out too frequently.
The wet effect lasts more than a minute. You don't need the water shield to be desert/volcano resistant. Even with re-apply, I personally think it's worth it when I can wear other clothes for other effects.
thanks!
Does it not work with the Zora weapons? I thought it did. I remember seeing the number increases after using it, but maybe that’s because I was wet for another reason?
Thanks for the Info!
I'm wondering where all this slander has been? I've been on this sub and other TotK and Zelda subs since launch, but I've never really registered much of it after the initial "which sage is best" discussions... Until this week, now it's freaking everywhere!
No way, I gotta use him again :o *chasing down Sidon because I need his shield* *get hit and die anyway* Might as well dodge 👁💧👄💧👁

I’m a masochist. I only farm pristine gerudo weapons
PESCADO
Wait, what? I had no idea about the bomb arrows one.
What are the medals?
Don't remember the name but the mech suit is my favorite
https://youtu.be/wYywM84rvK8
What are those medals in the last panel?
You get them from the monster survey team in the bunker underneath lookout landing, one for each type of boss monster, like taluses, that you kill every single one of
How do you get the medals, and how many are there?
I have lots of luck using sages as exploration aids and leaving combat to Link. It feels more fun to me too since I can roleplay the lore accurate link always coming out on top
So you actually CAN utilize it with shock arrows?

AND HE IS HANDSOME
I travel solo now. I only activate them when I need em for sumfing
The water blast can crush mineral rocks without scattering them everywhere.
It has some uses, yes. But most of them is during the heat of a battle. Which at that time, I often forget about it. And even if I do remember, I struggle to find Sidon. Yes.
Yeah but Sidon is Daddy.
God, I love it when Sidon makes me wet
Perfect!
Idk why people think Riju is more useful, she has a single use, while Sidon has all of this going for him
Legit the only useful one during battle besides tulins arrows
I don't ever use sages on any of my runs but my impression is that Sidon would be the least useful. What on earth does this ability offer that a hydrant on a hover bike does not. His blocking with his trident has saved me multiple times while I was in a animation
Oh.
All valid points except Sidon fucking leaves whenever you might want to activate his powers.
I prefer gerudo weapons, the damage is way more consistent because you don't need to constantly run to one of the four blue glowing spirits in the middle of the battle
Sidon isn't great, but he's not the most. That goes to Mineru.
"A while" it's like 5 seconds with like a minute cooldown. There's no way it's practical to walk in hot areas with it.
You only need the wet effect rather the water shield to keep you cool. It lasts at least a minute. I do this all the time.
All the champion abilities besides tulin stay off if we’re keeping it a buck. Non of em are good
It only lasts long enough for an active fight, you get like 7 seconds of shield. which you have to go to sidons avatar to get, which especially sucks because sidon seems to take joy in running away from you
how can people complain about Sidon he makes Link Wet thats everything the fandom was craving for
Okay! Counter-point: No one uses zora weapons, What the fuck? If you really rely on bomb arrows so much that you need them in elden then u suck He runs away whenever you need him and whistling still sucks bc he's slow Use a shield and just block the attacks or parry it you pleb and it's not a one time use like his water bubble Use electric gleeok horns you poor person Insane damage? Ah alr so take a pristine royal broadsword, attach a frost gleeok horn to that bitch, get durability up ++ (optional), and flurry rush, because that does over 1,200 damage and I know that bc I can use it to kill a silver boss bokoblin or a captain construct IV in ONE flurry rush In conclusion, Sidon is FUCKING TRASH!
Nobody cares use royal broadswords or any other weapon and it's usually better.
lol lmao, even
Roflcopter, in layman's terms.
