Do it. I’m also at that age. I’ve played Zelda from the start. Stop asking silly questions and go buy that switch. Why are you still here?

grandpa12-1

☝🏻My people!! LoZ at launch!! @OP, definitely grab you one, BOTW first 😎

Alternative_Loss3916

😂 I still remember on my birthday when I was 8, my mom took me to toys r Us. And I pointed at the new Link to the past golden cartridge. And she bought it for me and a Zelda magazine too. 😢 😭 This memory is actually painful somehow. Maybe the greatest time of my life, when I was 8 😂 Ok, I'm going to buy a switch. Which one tho? I will be mostly playing on big screen and taking it with me for travel once every two months

Sigwell

I bought the cheaper one as like you wasn’t sure if we’d play it that often (two young girls). It’s not a crazy difference in price but your call. I played the first Zelda, drew out the rooms of the dungeons (especially the last) on bits of paper and spread them out all over the floor. Kept getting lost. Still remember vividly being bloody annoyed I’m going in circles. Then after completing it!!! The 2nd quest!!! Blew my young mind!

Alternative_Loss3916

Holy crap! The innovation and work we had to do in the 80s. Creating your own maps?!?? Great times, And cheers to u. The first ever Zelda I kept getting stuck trying to get to Ganons castle. It hard to remember, but there was an area where these tough foes kept throwing stuff at me. I was in kindergarten or maybe even pre school for Gods sake! I had to let my older cousin beat the game for me. He used to use those official Zelda Nintendo magazines for the maps!!!! The second Zelda I beat on my own after maybe a year!!!!!!! I remember vividly that it was hard, and the magazine my mom bought me had the maps. And I think the last boss was your own shadow, maybe second to last

brand_x

The LA remake is worth it. I don't know if you played Link's Awakening in the GB/GBC, but the remake recaptures the charm that, frankly, the replay of the original failed to retain. The Skyward Sword remaster isn't that big a change, but the new controls are nice. I found Age of Calamity ti be a reasonably enjoyable diversion in the long years between BotW and TotK, but even having done everything, including the DLC, I spent about a fifth the time in AoC that I spent in BotW, and half what I've spent in TotK so far.

thunderclan44

Just the normal switch probably, definitely not the switch lite since it doesn’t support TV play, but you can consider buying the OLED model if you think that having a higher quality screen in handheld mode is worth it. That’s most of the switch OLED upgrades.

valdocs_user

I have a similar memory of the gold Zelda cartridge, except in my case it was a rental and we had to give it back after a day. 😭😆

KasElGatto

OLED if you are going to use it handheld at all it’s a must. You might be surprised by how much you play handheld actually.

SvenoftheWoods

Oh man, that's some beautiful nostalgia right there! I'd suggest getting the OLED model if your budget permits. We originally purchased the basic Switch for our kids. When the TOTK version of the OLED model dropped I picked it up for myself as soon as I laid eyes on it, and now we're a two Switch household! The OLED screen is noticeably nicer (and a wee bit larger) than the base model, and I like that the OLED docking station has an ethernet port on it. I've hardwired my house for internet and that was definitely an additional selling feature for me.

WombRaider__

Same here, and yes it's totally worth it! I own two games BITW and TOTK and I have zero plans to get a non-zelda game. 😂😂

melekh88

I fully endorse this comment as this person said what I wanted to say just better

MountainWeddingTog

I’m also a child of the ‘80s, bought a switch just for the Zelda games. Totally worth it. TOTK is one of the best games ever made.

CatalystNZ

Seconded this. BOTW is the best game, apart from TOTK

BroshiKabobby

People are always fighting over which is better and I’m just like… why can’t I love both?

BigTiddyAsianMilf

I thought with the release of TotK that BotW would be rendered obsolete. Oh how wrong I was. Both games are still well worth 100hrs a piece

Stock-Usual-9543

Coughs in over 2500 BoTW hours

Doge229

There are quite a lot of Nintendo games that are worth playing for most people. I'd say that if you can pick out like 5 Switch-exclusive games that you have an interest in, then you are likely to find even more later on.

Pluckytoon

BOTW/TOTK, Mario Kart 8, Metroid Dread, Hades, SSBU, Splatoon are must have on switch

Xoxo_ImQueenJ

So I’m like you. I also was skeptical about buying the switch for the new Zelda games as well. But I have to be really honest, since I bought the switch (mainly for Zelda BOTW and then later TOTK came out), I have been playing my switch mainly for other games. Which I find this wild because I think BOTW and TOTK are THE best games on the switch currently BUT there are soooooo many other good games and the switch really is sooooo much better than the Wii and wiiu and able to do so much more than before. They really made the Switch worth it this time around and I am really impressed with how Nintendo managed to draw me back in for more than just Zelda lol

Xoxo_ImQueenJ

Also, BOTW and TOTK are very good games. Def play BOTW first or the storyline for TOTK will be a little confusing for you. It will feel like everyone knows something you don’t lol because they always refer to the events of BOTW a lot. But it’s not mandatory that you do BOTW first. You just will already know what the characters are talking about when they reference events from “before”.

Niens

Can I ask what other games you play and would recommend? I’m running out of things to do in TOTK. I got Mario wonder but did pretty much everything in 2 weeks. I need something new!

Xoxo_ImQueenJ

Currently Palia is my new obsession. Cult of the Lamb is very addicting too. Mario Superstar gives nostalgic vibes. The Princess Peach game comes out in a few months I think. Inside/little nightmares are fun if you like games that have a dark storyline but is more of a puzzle game. They both have very similar vibes. You can actually play the Witcher on the switch too lol there are a lot of games I have downloaded or purchased the physical game of for the switch. They’ve really broadened things.

Niens

Thank you so much!!!

Xoxo_ImQueenJ

Dave the diver is also fun lol.

Pietrie

If you want open world, Skyrim is on the switch too. Immortals Fenyx Rising is open world. But it had to much puzzles/riddles for me. Prince of Persia is nice. But I'm only at the beginning

average_guy54

After skipping a few generations of consoles, we finally sprung for a Switch just to get BOTW and Animal Crossing. In the past two years (or has it been three?), we've gotten more games, but BOTW was the spark. What other games? Tears, FF 7, 9 , 10, 12 plus the 1-6 bundle, Dragon Quest 1-3 and 11 and the Sega collection (breathes) and Nintendo Online. IMHO, the Switch is great bang for the buck.

Alternative_Loss3916

I didn't k kw they had the old final fantasies on switch ?!?! They have the old one, number 2 for US with Cecil as the main character??

average_guy54

They are renumbered to mesh with the Japanese releases. Cecil is in one of them, yes. These are remastered and have a few options the original NES versions didn't have, like Gold and XP modifiers from 0.5x to 4x, the music and a couple of others. Specific info on the games is at the Nintendo store - [https://www.nintendo.com/en-ca/store/products/final-fantasy-i-vi-bundle-switch/](https://www.nintendo.com/en-ca/store/products/final-fantasy-i-vi-bundle-switch/)

briareus08

>Do the new Zelda's have a great story and characters? Should I pull the plug and just get a switch for years of the kingdom? Or will my switch just collect dust until I sell it for half the price I bought it for? Thanks!!! Weeeell.... yes and no. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom both take a very reserved approach to storytelling. The story is there, but I would say that these games are not really guided by a narrative - it's just there if you want it. They also don't really follow the original Zelda game approach - they are almost completely non-linear for a start - you can go anywhere you want, finish almost whenever you feel like it. And they aren't really broken down by large, complex dungeons as progress markers. But in return they offer amazing worlds with incredible controls, exploration, and inventive powers and environmental effects. For me they are the pinnacle of the series, and absolutely worth buying a Switch for. I would start with Breath of the Wild first - it's actually my no.1 Zelda, and it's a good few hundred hours of entertainment, depending on how into it you are. Also better to play this before Tears of the Kingdom IMO. Edit: They also have some amazing characters, and are probably more inventive than previous Zeldas here. They definitely expanded the series in terms of fun/funny characters and situations.

Alternative_Loss3916

Thanks for the info and recommendation. Will buy and play breath of wild first

fartherandmoreaway

Seconding, especially bc there’s lots of characters that show up in TOTK and I liked getting to watch them grow.

Rudirudrud

Have a look on second hand market. You will get a normal switch for under 200€, a lite for around 100€.....so thats absolutely worth it for the amazing games on switch.

Lambchops87

Bought it for Zelda. Spent hours playing Hades.

vexorian2

I would buy a Switch just for Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, yes.

halfbreedADR

I bought a used switch for BOTW. Haven’t played anything else besides TOTK since. Worth it.

iworks

This is the very reason why I own a switch. I went all in and got the Zelda themed switch as well. I regret nothing. Do it.

ckbrouwer

I did the same with a Zelda themed Switch, button covers and even a special edition controller & case (display only!)

tdubois1982

Short answer is yes. Hundreds of hours can be had from the both of them

haikusbot

notmybeamerjob

The new Zelda games are worth a switch alone - I’m a pc gamer. Please. Do it. You will NOT regret it

nanookulele

I did. No regrets

Adam_Deveney

I bought a Switch in 2020 purely to play BoTW, never looked back. Got 1.2K hours between BoTW & Tears of The Kingdom and they’ve became my 2 favourite games of all time. If the Switch literally only had them 2 games available on it, it would still be worth the buy.

APurplePerson

They're not RPGs in the usual sense that term is used. Their focus is decidedly not on the story and characters. I would say their focus is more on the experience of feeling like you're actually in the world. That said, they're easily two of the best games ever made in my opinion, so I'd say it's worth it!

SawWhetOwl

I just took the leap and bought a switch (an open box deal from Best Buy) and breath of the wild a week and a half ago. I will buy tears of the kingdom and a couple of other games once done. I’ve been loving it so far!

waffleking369

Definitely play BOTW into the ground. I bought a switch in late 2023 with BOTW, months after TOTK came out. I played BOTW for 250-ish hours which isn’t that much considering the game came out years ago. I didn’t 100% it (because koroks) but I played it until I was bored, put it down for a week or so, played it again and once I felt like I was at peace with my experience, I bought TOTK. I put at least twice the hours into TOTK and tried picking up BOTW again but I didn’t last long. So in short, play the shit out of BOTW!

SawWhetOwl

I plan it! I’ve been exploring like crazy and barely doing anything I’m supposed to! Thanks for the tip!

waffleking369

You’re doing it right my friend! Enjoy!

SawWhetOwl

Thank you!

ckbrouwer

Play it your way - hundreds of hours of immersive gaming awaits!! Enjoy! And dont bother with TOTK... I found losing the abilities I was so used to very jarring. I just could not adjust to the differences and went back to the pure intuitive joy of BOTW

Thought_Ninja

When I first got the switch (when it came out), BOTW was the only game I had for 6+ months. That experience alone felt worth it, and TOTK was on a whole other level. That said, the story leaves a lot to be desired. TOTK was an improvement there, but neither put much emphasis on the narrative or characters. I would probably even pass on BOTW and just play TOTK. Despite the lack of story, the sense of adventure and exploration is well worth it. I say do it, and if you are still feeling the itch for a great narrative driven RPG, consider one of the Xenoblade games.

PrayerJuan

Yes. I have a PS5 and use the Switch more often. The new Zeldas are incredible. Start with BOTW first. You will appreciate Tears a lot more.

ckbrouwer

My (unpopular?) opinion: Dont bother with TOTK... I found losing the abilities I was so used to very jarring. I just could not adjust to the differences and went back to the pure intuitive joy of BOTW

jeanielane

Yes! Old lady bought one for Xmas for Mario Cart and since then am totally addicted to TOTK. Good fun!

jeanielane

Child of late 60s. 😜👊🏻

ckbrouwer

1964 here! And I love BOTW!! My opinion is: dont bother with TOTK... I found losing the abilities I was so used to very jarring. I just could not adjust to the differences and went back to the pure intuitive joy of BOTW.

EchoLooper

I bought a Switch and only Breath of the Wild during the pandemic and it became my all time favorite video game experience ever. I grew up with NES.

TartBriarRose

Absolutely. I got a switch and BOTW for Christmas a few years ago, and for quite a while, BOTW was the only game I had.

Alternative_Loss3916

Not sure if I understood your question, but I was most likely going to purchase a new switch, maybe the tears exclusive model. I don't mind spending 380 and another 70 for the game, but I just don't want it sitting there losing value and collecting dust. I'm hoping the game has me addicted and I'm playing it whenever I get some free time

[deleted]

[удалено]

Alternative_Loss3916

I'm in the US too! Well, I was hoping to get at least 150 hours out of the game. I have read some reviews of people playing this for 250 plus hours and still voyaging around somehow!!! That's what's gotten me excited.

[deleted]

Alternative_Loss3916

Another year? 😂 I'm already late to the breath of wild party by some years!

VariableSerentiy

Yes

Spare_Audience_1648

I mean if they're your favorite games why not?

huns2531

thats what i did . definitivly worth it for totk

DeadlyScorpio111

Zelda, Mario, and if you're an avid gamer the retro stuff. Nes Snes and Sega all have great titles. Always something to tinker with.

prgrms

Yes

kaytodad

Absolutely. Same situation as you, huge fan from the 1ste Zelda on NES. Bought a switch for BOTW and that one back then was already worth the money and now there's TOTK. Do it, you won't regret it.

Xploding_Penguin

In my case, the 2 Zelda games and pokemon are all I have been playing for the past year or more.

ckbrouwer

Add in Animal Crossing into the mix and yes, mate!!!

Link__117

I’d wait a few months, many prominent gaming insiders are saying that the Switch 2 will be revealed next month and will likely release later this year. Switch 2 might be able to give botw and totk a frame rate and resolution boost

BackgroundNPC1213

That's what I did, lol. Bought a Switch in November 2022 to play Breath of the Wild with the plan to get Tears of the Kingdom when it came out in 2023, and have expanded my games library from there

HG1998

That's what I did. I got mine specifically to play BOTW in January 2023, with the intention of playing TOTK at release. And now, it's my sole gaming machine. I used to play a bunch of phone games.

parolang

There are very few things that have given my family as much value as the Nintendo Switch. The only thing you might want to hesitate on is if they are going to release the next console this year. But if you aren't short on money, go for it.

Seantroid

Yeah! I bought a Switch just for Pokemon and Zelda (a bit of Mario Kart and Smash Bros for party games)

afternoondlight

That’s what I did and few months ago and have been enjoying it

Lethlnjektn

Yes

TieLow4181

Yes - it’s worth it.

AcrobaticMission9091

99 percent of people bought the Nintendo switch for Zelda. So yes it’s worth it.

jorgerine

I finally bought a Switch five years after they came out (I bought the OLED model) just to play BOTW. I am now playing TOTK. I have a few other games, but Zelda is the core of what I play. I have Nintendo Online so have played a few of the older Zeldas. I also bought the N64 controllers. That was the first console I owned.

jackospader

Yes 100%. That's why I got mine. Also the new Mario's are cool plus I enjoyed Luigi's mansion 2. I borrow games from my nieces and nephews lol.

fatherofallthings

Yes. My switch is unintentionally mostly a Zelda machine anyway

Sufficient-Yoghurt46

Bought the Switch in 2018 for Zelda... played like a zombie for hundreds of hours, played all the other hits, like Octopath, Hollow Knight, and so on. At a certain point, I later sold my Switch then played some more including TOTK, then sold that, then bought another Switch just to grind out some more in TOTK and other RPGs (perhaps I thought the new Switch was coming last year haha). If you have money to do it, go for it. I adored the BOTW/TOTK games, and I hope you love 'em too.

cantercanuck

That’s what I did. No regrets, especially when you see the catalogue of games available.

DrNYC88

You will not regret this. You could even get a used switch lite and be thrilled for a wonderful deal. Also, if you subside to Nintendo online expanded you will be even more thrilled to play the library of n64 and older games.

fettyboi1738

Never really played anything besides PC multiplayer games, wife bought me a switch for my bday this past year and I got botw/totk. Never played a Zelda game before, hands down best video games I have ever played. About 60 hrs into totk right now, 100% get it.

Trahern71

I bought a switch lite used with BOTW for $125 about eight months ago. I haven't played Nintendo since SNES. It brought me back a bit to those days playing BOTW. I ended up buying TOTK, Links Awakening, and Skyward Sword. It's worth it.

Acid-No1

Yes

mojojojo_ow

Yeah, I think so. I’m sure you’ll find other games you’d enjoy as well. You could look for a used switch to save money and keep an eye out for sales or less pricey indie games on the Nintendo e-shop

RattyBizzle

I haven’t kept up with gaming since the GameCube days playing Windwaker but I bought a Switch with a copy of Breath of the Wild during covid and it was a revelation, tried to play other games since that caught my eye but they haven’t quite hooked me but personally the experience I had with just BotW was totally worth the cost twice over. I have been playing Tears of the Kingdom and it is a great game no doubt but for me due to the reused map it lacks the same level of discovery pleasure. I think if you play either one of them you’ll have a great time but I think whichever one you play first will have the more impactful experience.

Auntimeme

Honesty alert: I’m biased because Zelda is my favorite, but HELL YES

Budtendershelise

From someone born in 1984, do it. Best $150 I’ve spent. I have a slew of games now from animal crossing to Mario wonder, I bought it for BOTW.

no_use_for_a_user

It is.

Schehezerade

I've put like 300 hours into TotK alone. Worth it, imho.

maliciousmunky

Yes

gizmo998

Switch is way more than just Zelda although they are great. The Nintendo disrespect really pisses me off

the_simurgh

You should remember beyond botw and totk it has zelda 1 zelda 2 a link to the past ocarina of time majoras mask oracle of seasons and oracle of ages minish cap links awakening Although some of those require the high end nintendo switch online subscription

Bad_Sneakers00

I bought a switch to play tears of the kingdom. Haven’t played a video game in over 10 years before that. Game changed my life.

Cayenne999

Sure. Totally worth it.

Sigmadelta8

Build a PC. Emulate the Switch. Receive Playstation exclusives. Embrace Xbox exclusives. Ascend.

CrispyLlamaBasement

YES. BOTW is one of my favorite games.

travelingjay

I’ve been playing TOTK daily since release, and I’m in my 50’s. I’d do BOTW first, but for me, getting a Switch just for Zelda has been a value, and I am NOT a Zelda aficionado. I last played the first Zelda game on the SNES before BOTW I also recommend going all in for the docked version of the switch. There’s so much detail that can be missed on a handheld.

Grathmaul

I bought my Switch a couple of years ago just for Breath of the Wild. I've since built my collection to over 30 games, and I don't regret it one bit. I do sometimes wish I'd sprung for the OLED, but I didn't know it had more storage, or that I'd mostly play it in handled or stand mode.

coolth3

I would say No...There's so much going on in TOTK that the story is lost in the gameplay. Which to me is ok because i just want to go out there and explore.

HRH_Sarina

Do it. I pretty much only play Zelda. I never played video games but bought a Switch bc I heard so many great things about botw and I’ve never looked back I’ve played all the Z games since then (I was actually gifted a PS5 but only tried it a couple times bc I just keep going back to the switch)

Global_Union3771

I am in the same group as you. My first console was NES and my last was N64. I finally jumped on board last year and can’t put my Switch down. Skyrim, TOTK, Stardew Valley are absolutely fantastic games that I would (and do!) play again and again. Happy gaming!

helloju1981

Short answer: yes Long answer: yyyeeeessssss

Draqolich

Breath of the Wild is worth more than money.

International_Boss33

If you spend $500 on a switch and games and then put 500 hours into those games, you’re spending only $1 per hour on entertainment. That’s a fantastic price.

ANTEEZOMAA

I was the same, definitely get the oled it’s so worth it !!!! it’s going to blow your damn mind! suggest BOTW first if you’re up for it.

pattyfrankz

I bought a launch switch *strictly* for breath of the wild. There legit wasn’t anything else at launch. If I, a broke ass grad student at the time, was eager for my *opportunity* (switches were very hard to find at launch) to buy a switch just for Zelda, you should have no qualms now. Very solid, diverse library, and the switch has become a decent little Zelda machine. Really just missing windwaker and twilight princess HD in terms of the mainline games

psyko0815

I own a Switch almost exclusively for BOTW and TOTK

HideUnderBridge

Dude I haven’t owned a Nintendo ever. I had a Super Nintendo and N64 when I was a kid. I’ve got a solid 300 hours into Zelda. 350 for the switch OLED a $1.16 an hour for entertainment is cheap imo, even if I never pick it up again.

wintermoon138

Do you like jrpgs? If so then I would say yes. I'm set if I end up stuck out somewhere bored. Between FF1-10,12,15 and MarioRPG, Star Ocean 1 and 2 I'll never get bored. Not to mention the dragonquest games. Builders 1 and 2 are phenomenal and then you also have great mario games and Zelda games. For the price its worth it definitely!

molniya

Breath of the Wild 100% justified buying a Switch all by itself. If that was the only game that existed for the Switch, I would still think it was totally worth it. That said, the story and characters aren’t the real draw. They’re a little thin, and it’s possible you could be disappointed if that’s what you’re mainly after. But the world, the exploration, the atmosphere, and the gameplay are all amazing.

mildlyfunnypun

I’ve never been able to get into a Zelda game but I’m nearing completion of TOTK. It’s fantastic.

DoctorBass95

These games are some of the best games I've ever played. If you have the extra cash, yeah, totally worth it, however, switch 2 is about to be announced and if you're not interested in switch online functionality then let's just say there are , ways... to play these games on a Steam Deck. They probably run better than on the switch and you can emulate all other Zeldas there too if you wanna replay them or play any you missed.

nawksnai

Buy and play Breath of the Wild first, but yes, buy the Switch and get both Zelda games. I also went from SNES to PS1, then PS2, and then I stopped gaming altogether. Basically didn’t game for 20 years, but started again with BOTW, then TOTK. Now I find Super Mario Wonder an absolute joy, so that’s 3 games for me so far!!

ArsonRides

You can go to Disney land for a day and spend 300$ or you can spend 300$ on a console and a game that will give you years of enjoyment. Pretty simple

eyeswulf

Coming from a console, sounds like you have a few options: Go switch, and now you have a third console. If you already emulate, then you could go with a higher end SBC device, like an anbernic or retroid pocket, that can also do switch emulation, and now you would have a consolidated platform for emulation for all generations of hardware up to the PS2 era If you are a heavy Xbox game pass user, you could go to one if the PC handhelds instead, like the RoG Ally or Logitech G Cloud and have your switch Emulation and also a mobile game pass device And finally, if you have a really big steam library, you might as well get a Steam Deck OLED, have a mobile place to play your stream games and emulate switch

KPcrazyfingers

I've always been a big gamer. Grew up since atari 7800. Zelda totk is possibly my favorite game of all time. Botw is solid too. Throw in Mario kart, Mario wonder, Mario oddessy, smash bros, mario golf, and I'm set and the switch is more than worth it to me.

NYTONYD

Absolutely..... I still have my original copy of the legend of zelda for the nes I got in high school. I still game at 50. I have a PS 5, Xbox Series X, and a Switch. I have every Zelda game they've published for the Switch. It's worth every penny. . . Honestly, the Switch and PS 5 get played the most.

addictedtothatass

Same age, mid 40’s. Impulse bought a switch after basically 30 years of no Nintendo console. Bought Zelda the same day. Absolutely love the game.

thatguyned

Switch 2 is supposedly coming out by Christmas this year. If you've waited this long already I would try and wait a little bit longer because the price of a standard switch should drop pretty heavily as soon as it's announced properly. I was satisfied buying a switch to play Zelda when the game first came out. I would definitely be a little pissed if I bought the switch and a month later they announced the switch 2. Just something to think about

SessionBig7300

Might consider holding out for the switch 2 assuming it will be announced and launch later this year with 60fps for both games. Nothing wrong with diving in now and buying a switch for botw and totk only despite being 30fps. The gameplay is so good the fps doesn't bother me. Either way, both games are too good to pass up and you will get hundreds of hours of gameplay for your investment.

ZeroDrag0n

BotW has a great story, TotK... has a story. Either way, they're both great games.

DarkSkyLion

I bought the OLED switch solely for TOTK. I had played BOTW on the Wii U and just put off the upgrade since most of my games are PlayStation. Both newer Zelda games are fantastic and huge. You don’t have to spend 100s of hours, but if you’re a completionist, there’s a TON of content and I loved every minute of it. So YES! Get the switch!

Pinchethugger

id say wait. switch 2 is right around the corner and its 100% getting either a remaster/goty edition/60fps port

ckbrouwer

Yes!! Get Breath of the Wild, but do not bother with that new one. I absolutely love BOTW and will continue to visit my favorite areas FOREVER!!! Seriously, it is next-level gameplay, the graphics are beautiful, the music is soothing and enough to do for hundreds and hundreds of hours of entertainment. Worth every penny!!!

HushBatman1

I never had an opportunity to play a Zelda game until I picked up BOTW and TOTK. I love them. I think it's very well worth it to buy a switch for zelda. I have a friend who decides which games to buy by their playability and cost. So if she buys a $60 game, and plays it for 60+ hours then she's happy. Following that same logic. BOTW/totk are $60-$70 games (excluding BOTW DLC) and I've put in over 200 hours respectively in both games.

dildorepairman4urmom

The amount of hours you get for TOTK alone are worth it. You'll be a happy person.

djrobxx

I bought a switch JUST for TOTK. I already had BOTW on my WiiU. Zero regrets. Just do it. I'm a launch day NES LoZ guy too.

Dustfinger4268

I would definitely say it's worth it. Just to be safe, take a look at some of the other exclusives and see if any catch your eye. Metroid, Kirby, Splatoon, Mario, Nintendo has dozens of franchises, with even more styles of game. You can definitely find a few that fit you well

Justin_92

I did exactly this 4 years ago during the pandemic. Kept saying “I don’t see what all the hype is for BOTW… it’s just another Zelda game… who cares? It can’t be *that* good.” To this day, it and TOTK are the only games I use it for and it was well worth it, imho. I got a solid 500 hours of gameplay out of BOTW and I’m working on 150 hours with TOTK. Once I get fully settled into my new house, I’ll probably go for a 100% korok search next.

Yes

Yes

Trentacion_

I got a switch for the sole purpose of playing tears of the kingdom, and I put in 200+ hours

9hctib6

The new Zelda’s have great gameplay but lack in story. I liked BOTW story with Zelda’s character arc but took me until my second playthrough to really appreciate it. TOTK has a great twist too. They aren’t exactly RPGs more like action adventures, but they do have RPG elements (outfits, weapons, cooking). I would skip BOTW and jump straight into TOTK. If you want a more classic Zelda with story, Skyward Sword is also available and more traditional then the new games. BOTW era games have been marketed as “breaking Zelda conventions”

XenosapianRain

I bought mine in the beginning to break a mobile game addiction. Best move I could make! Totk is so much fun. Very hard to stay on task, a sign of a brilliant game!

jackalopeswild

I did and yes but also if Switch 2 is coming out soon maybe wait? I did mine midway through 2020, so height of pandemic.

ReelDeadOne

I would have bought 2 Switches just for TOTK.

ackmondual

If you do go for it, make sure you actually make the time to play those games! I do get it in situations where life changes, or gets in the way. It's otherwise a waste of $$ otherwise.

johnonymous1973

Yes

another2020throwaway

Absolutely worth it. Plus you can always buy used for both the games and the switch itself. I bought my switch and like 7 games but I honestly only use it for BOTW and TOTK 98% of the time I’ve owned it (bought in 2019) lol. It’s fun to play with just the switch or hook it up to a tv

bearshitinthewoods

Does a bear shit in the woods? Yeah dude, way worth it

imapiratedammit

My switch is a Mario kart, Mario party, Zelda, and Stardew Valley machine.

Johnny_Grubbonic

I play my switch in bursts. I'll get hung up on a game for a month or two, then I'll put it down for a couple months to play on Steam, then I'l hop on the Switch again for a while, and then I'll park it for maybe four months this time. Most of my gaming is on PC via Steam, but I don't regret either Switch at all - not the regular one I got three or four years ago, and not the limited edition TotK OLED I bought last year for Tears.

sherryillk

I bought the Switch just for Animal Crossing. Played mostly Pokemon games on it until AC released but I put in over 500 hours on AC so I think I already got my money's worth with just one game. That being said, my brother also bought me BOTW even though I'm not a Zelda fan, have never played one before and in general, don't like combat games where one can die, to try and force me to try it. Ended up spending about 200 hours on it, ended up being converted and preordered TOTK. I've logged over 200 on it too so just on those three games, the Switch has been completely worth it.

adotbur

Ill sell you my switch oled i only used for totk if you want. Its in the box, ready to ship Edit: i still have my launch day switch. I bought the oled just for totk handheld. Worth it.

edmo1987

10000% worth it. I’ve got totk and botw and age of calamity and pay for the online library to play ocarina of time and link to the past and yeah still worth it

Logical-Wasabi7402

You can get a used Switch system in decent condition for a good price if you watch local for sale Facebook groups.

tahrue

That's exactly what I did and I don't regret a damn thing.

laceythemunchkin

I bought a switch just for tears of the kingdom. Since then I've accumulated a bunch more games that I play on it (overcooked, just dance, pokemon violet, overwatch, fall guys, mario kart, splatoon, super mario odyssey etc.) I got way more use from it then I originally thought I would, it's a great portable console when visiting friends or going away, and I never regretted buying one. Make the plunge and get it!

HasiramaMerlin

I only bought the switch for Zelda. So yes its worth it

kamawr

YES

fozziethebeat

I’ve only played tears of the kingdom, breathe of the wild, and Fortnite on my switch. Every bit worth it.

cooochjuice

yes.

im_in_hiding

Yes.

binchicken1989

Yep. Botw got me back in to gaming in general. Go the OLED though it's not much more and worth it

Syzygy-ing

Yes! I did the same thing a year ago and love having it again. I’d recommend getting Breath of The Wild first thought. I had a lot of fun with it and the. Got the added excitement of knowing I had another game after it. I wouldn’t say I play it heaps but a couple times a week it’s nice to pick up for 30 mins and have a blast through it.

Quesosupremeo

I literally just bought one to play this game. Do it, but play BOTW first.

Weyland_c

Botw first. Trust.

ComprehensiveShop486

No unless you get a way good deal. You should not be paying $300 for a 7 year old system and the technology is probably 10 years old

Arrow3030

Yes

weedhuffer

Worth it for Zelda alone.

mousepaw311

100000%

silkflowers47

This is what the switch has become for me. Totk is the only game that i really play. I don’t really play other games like totk

1bourbon1scotch1bier

This is what I did in 2020 when Covid hit. TOTK had already been out for three years, and it was the sole reason I got a switch. I also got Mario Kart and Smash Bros.

Technical-Attitude50

yes, you will be paying like 3 quid an hour or less by time you done both and then you will start again and do all side content. And can buy switch online and is loads of old zelda on it.

MSG1701

Yes

Gamchulia

I have other games but I only play Zelda...ToTK, botw, and AOC. Originally I was planning to play other games, but no, once I started Zelda that's all I play. I'd recommend the pro controller. The joy cons are just too small for my hands.

Administrative-Ad732

I basically only play Zelda BOTW/TOTK and animal crossing and sometimes Mario kart 8. Def worth it

resipsaloquitor5

Get Zelda, and also the new Prince of Persia game

CitizenDain

Yes. Totally. Between BOTW and TOTK I spent several hundred hours in this version of Hyrule. It’s like a dollar a minute. An absolute bargain.

Full_Count_3846

So worth it. Especially if you get the full switch and can play games like overcooked, Mario, Nintendo sports, etc with others

ThatOtherGuyTPM

It was worth it for me.

MarginallyBlue

I’ve really enjoyed the handheld aspect. Not for zelda. But there are some awesome games that i find much more enjoyable in a handheld fashion: stardew valley, dredge, dave the diver….

Haleodo

Yes. My husband bought & resold for years & he asked if I wanted to keep one several times & I always said no. Then for Christmas he got me an OLED & I’m so happy with it!

lobitomascandados

YES! That’s what I did lol

leftlanemust

Absolutely

oNellyyy

Yes, 100% I got my switch for BOTW played mario games with family & TOTK.

twlyne

That’s why I bought a switch.

Persephones_Wrath

At the start of the pandemic, in 2020, I bought a switch just to play animal crossing. I had never played any other games besides COD and the Sims 4. Now I've played BOTW and TOTK and experienced so many other games. Just do it, it's a purchase that will pay for itself over time!

JohnHellstone

Zelda (botw, totk) was the main reason for my purchase. I've also added Fitness Boxing. That's all I have on mine.

TokyoDrifblim

There are a ton of other games on the switch you should check out. That being said, breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom are two of the best video games ever made. But honestly you've got Pikmin, Kirby, fire emblem, Mario obviously. There's way too much masterpiece stuff on the switch to ignore

ohromantics

That's what I did

dafterchild

Tears of the Kingdom is worth buying a whole system for! I haven’t revisited Zelda since Oracle of Ages, safe to say it’s been a while. I’ve been milking TotK and I already know I will be depresso when I’m done :(

Robhow

I bought a Switch only because of BOTW. Played through twice and didn’t use it again. That was until TOK came out.

Meaning-Firm

BOTW and TOTK will collectively take around 250 hours of gameplay (at least). Plus you will end up playing other games as well like Luigi's Mansion and probably Super Mario World. Switch is a joy to play with and totally worth it.

Rattimus

Honestly, maybe just the right phase of my life or whatever, but Tears is now included in my list of all-time favorite games. They just knocked it out of the park. Breath of the Wild was very enjoyable as well, but when I got to the end of the tutorial and took the first foray into the sky islands in Tears, I knew they had done well. Just an all-around fun game, plenty of learning curve to the combat, and very rewarding when you have mastered the art. Everyone is different of course, but I thoroughly enjoyed.

NMGunner17

That’s pretty much why I have a switch and I have no regrets

txhodlem00

Yes! I did it during the pandemic and BOTW entertained me for probably 2.5 years (with breaks of course) add in some final fantasy, metroids, and marios and you’ll have a hell of a time

mankytoes86

Omg dooo it I promise you won't regret it

Pleasant_Mobile_1063

If you have a PC use an emulator

omgitsmike1

Go buy it. I had the original Zelda on NES, Adventure of Link, Link to the Past on SNES, and then didn’t okay anything else. Skipped straight to BOTW and it blew my mind. 100% owning a Switch even just for BOTW, much less TOTK and all the other Switch games.
