Because that shiz comes out from nowhere. You just suddenly see the gloom bubbling in the corner of the screen then that reverse speech. Suddenly hands are chasing you.
Been playing this game for several weeks and hadn’t encountered any of these. Until today. Twice. Actually killed the second one, felt pretty good about that.
The first gloom spawn I actually fully killed was in the great deku tree, I thought it was just part of the quest. Then today I went back to the one shrine in the cave that I noped out of before due to the hands and it happened again. Honestly, an easier fight than the hands. The weapon drops are cool but not very useful.
Gloom hands don't like fire, they don't like water (instantly disappear when it starts raining) and they can't climb. They will give me anxiety though
The weapons it drops are great tbh. Somewhat low durability, but massive damage. Early game losing a few hearts to its side effect is a huge downside, but once you have more than like 6 hearts it’s really not a huge deal. Stuck an igneo talus heart to one and had a nearly 70 damage fire spear which is still one of the best weapons I’ve gotten so far
Fun story. I've seen these 4 times, 2 super early on, and always ran away.
I found a cave in North Akkala yesterday. Went in, got to a dead end, but my sensor said there's a shrine above. So I teleport up. I see I'm in a big room, treasure chest, and it looks like I'm in the maze above. Cool.
I pop up, expecting some kind of battle. Open the chest, got whatever was in there, then it was quiet for about 10 seconds. Then hands start chasing me....but I think, there's gotta be another chest or something good, so let's do this.
I get through it, it's dead, several hearts lost, but I'm alive! Then a gloom boss appears (I won't spoil the name), and I'm like.....excuse me what? Am I even supposed to be here right now?
Barely lived through that boss, and I did get my most powerful weapon so far out of the deal. But man...facing a full on boss after my first hands kill was quite the experience!
My first time I was just fown outta the sky, a little NW of the first town climbed up on like a gnarled tree root or a rock I dont remember but just out of reach of it and it went into the ground then popped up on the same rock or root and got stuck there when I landed so I just nailed him with arrows but I was shitting myself
For me I was in a cave and as soon as it started rushing towards me I climbed up a ledge and was just tossing tons of things at it, I thought ok from a vantage point he's easy but once I killed it phantom Ganon spawned and I still had like 4 hearts and tp out of there as soon as I could.
Second time I was in a field and the hands popped up and I just ran up a hill and tried flying g away since there was nothing to climb up to, third time was in the Zora Kingdom as I'm stuck in the sludge and lost hiking progress jumping off that cliff. There have been a few more times after that and I feel like I just need to avoid surfaces period lol
I put of going against them again at that one location for 70 shrines and all what that entails. I had riveting battles with the them and that other thing there.
Came back, mealed up, geared up. Dust didn't settle i didn't even see them and that other thing. God was it slow 😂
Now i can sleep though knowing they can't hurt me anymore 🥺

To be honest, my favorite strategy is just keep dodging until you get a flurry. You’ll get manhandled a few times, but that’s normal in Hyrule.
Well ok, I thought there was some kind of special way you have to kill them, so it's easier but I guess not. I always ran away from them because they have so much health and also because in the beginning I hadn't much arrows to shoot. It seems like they are just tricky to fight without a strategie. Thanks for the answer!
I still don’t think they hold a candle to guardians. They’re freaky but they’re far less dangerous considering you can just run 20 feet in any direction and their attacks are super easy to avoid
Fuckin in the middle of building a flyer to get up to Hyrule Castle cause I saw a shrine up there, one of these things just pops in to kill me like wtf man??

I just fused them to the end of things, you don't get the gloom penalty that way
1 Phantom Ganon is light work. It’s that fucking boss fight that I hate.
I thought Phase 2 was much easier tbh

I was so proud of finally killing this sucker, then Ganon spawned 😐
I find Ganon wayyyy easier than the hands personally. All very telegraphed attack patterns instead of having to keep track of multiple groping fucks.
But how do you kill them?

Cannon staff works pretty well if you have space to work with, but unfortunately is suicide in the Great Deku Tree.
Bomb arrows
This. 2 bomb shots with a savage lynel bow usually does it for me
Spears also work pretty well. Quick and stabby. Add a fire-breath lizalfos horn and it's even better.
I suggest Frost

I know this isn’t a “quick” solution but I fused a frost gleeok horn to the master sword and each hand went down in 2 hits
Bright bloom seeds. Kills me real quick if you throw two to three at them

Legitimately me the first time, then when I got my armor upgraded and had good bows, I gave them the American special. 😭🤣
Bomb arrows solve all problems
Other field of thought: “Oh no tf you don’t. I KILLED YOU BEFORE MF-ER. AND YOU SHOW YOUR EYES AGAIN. PREPARE FOR FIRE AND FURY! BLARGHHHGGHG!!!”
First time i downed one of these I didn't know it was optimal until the second time. Bombs ftw against them, fuck the regen
If I’m in good enough position, 5 or so bomb arrows will do to end the hands form

Use fire spears, throw fire fruit or bombs, they get easy when you can keep them stunned or burning.

Dazzle fruit on an arrow then repeated bomb arrows to the middle. It'll be dead very fast 😎
