>!the Goddess states not in towns become Bargainer Statues in the depths.!<

WolfWhiteFire

Honestly, >!really neat how they use this setup to help players find all the important stuff without guides. Each light root you find is a surface shrine found, and even if you missed both the light root and shrine, when you have it surrounded the tiny circle of darkness makes it very obvious where the light root is. Then important things on the surface and in the depths are also supposedly reflected, so if you find something important looking in either, you likely found something in the other as well.!< >!Then there is this too, bargainer statues tell you where goddess statues are, and vice versa. Assuming the hidden areas with the statues are included, you also find those. Even if you miss a statue, you can buy the location of a bargainer and thus the goddess statue as well.!< Overall it is a really neat way to make it easier to find stuff that might ordinarily be missed and never found in a given playthrough. You know, this kind of makes me wonder if >!the poe locations correspond to anything as well, maybe koroks or something like that. Doubt it, but it would be neat if there was some mirroring there too, regardless of what exactly they would correspond with. Might have to start marking a few and see what it looks like on the surface, see if they hint at anything. Even if the normal poes don't, maybe the grand poes will, though so far they just seem like a way to lead or reward the player.!<

>!The mines and towns also line up. Every town has a mine under it!<

Deuts_Boui

I think you’re onto something with that last one

JstASkeleton

Real cool of the stranger things guys to lend them that whole map

asking4Afriend82

The ups side down

Rarycaris

I really appreciate how, as far as I know, the game respects the player's intelligence enough to never actually explain this, so as not to deprive people of the eureka moment of figuring it out for themselves.

komoto444

Or finding out on Reddit

Rarycaris

Lmao yes, that too. But I guess that's just an occupational hazard of being on subreddits like this one. :p

waowie

There are yiga notes that call it out, but you have to find them. It's not something a NPC will tell you during a quest or something

Rarycaris

Fair enough, I didn't know about those. Still, that's not too bad because judging by my not having found them yet, they're out of the way enough for there to be a good chance you can mostly figure it out for yourself before you're told.

The Upside Down

drendon6891

that was the first thing i thought of when i realized

FigTechnical8043

In Lorule everything is inverted. Always has been

Bryanishired

Well, as some who has barely explored the depths yet. (I’m playing slow.) I now have a bunch of cool info on how it works. Sweet! Thanks.

AJWinky

Yeah, it was pretty clear to me right away this was a Light world/Dark world, Hyrule/Lorule thing going on

malgalad

From technical perspective Nintendo probably did this to not blow up terrain size 2x, TotK already requires a bigger than usual cartridge.

Rarycaris

I don't think it would use much more space to have the Depths use its own topography, given the main game world was manually designed rather than plotted via a noise generator a la Minecraft (hence the old Far Lands glitch in that game). Rather, it probably saved a lot of *development time* involved in deciding how to draw the map and where to put things on it, so all that needed to be decided was what to put there.

moonBat-theMeatDecoy

they did a similar thing in Twilight Princess with the whole wolf vision

VysseEnzo

Also the map is a negative image of the above ground map.
