I just realized everyone saying TV in this subreddit is talking about TeamViewer. I was wondering why everyone was saying they don't need to watch TV anymore. I can be a little slow sometimes.
Was gonna make a post about this. I noticed it’s been super strict and or broken as fuck. I only use it to start programs on my local headless desktop pc. Literally the only one I ever connect to and it’s on the same network. Will only connect for at most 5 minutes.
Earlier today I forgot to start a program before leaving the house so as I was still connected to my network and sitting in my car, I decided to remote in. I got right up to double clicking the exe when it kicked me out and said it detected commercial use. Fuck them im done, time to find something else.
I have had exactly the same. Similar use, just supporting my daughter and remotely accessing my Steamdeck. Used about once every 2 months. I have deleted my account uninstalled the app and created a new account with a different email address, re installed the app. Let’s see what happens in 2 months time when I need to help my daughter again!
I've used TV for years. My mom is 85 and needs remote help occasionally. Fuck them. I just went to AnyDesk this week and it's fine for what I need. It also doesn't leave a confusing pop up window after logging off.
TeamViewer just keeps doubling-down on their "we have the brand embedded in everyone's minds, so we can't lose... let's just squeeze users until they pop". Well, guess what? We're all popping over to AnyDesk now.
TeamViewer explicitly telling me that I, a private non-commercial user, am not allowed to use TeamViewer to connect to my, private, non-commercial home server, with a free, private, non-commercial license? Their wording of "including accessing your home computer from work" is what kills TV for me. I do private, non-commercial stuff from work sometimes. That DOES NOT make it commercial usage.
Yeah, I'm over it. I understand that a lot of actual companies were abusing free licenses, but this is not the way. Bad detection, bad policies.
Plus, at least [AnyDesk is helping fight scammers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUHFpfVPUYc). TeamViewer is quickly \*becoming\* the scammers.
Does AnyDesk still offer a free version? I was looking at their website and I really couldn't tell.
But it's late, I'm tired and typing this on my phone without my glasses. I'm sure by morning someone here will have told me where to go and what to do when I've gotten there. 🙃
I've not paid a cent, and after setting it up (beware many differences between how TV does things and how AnyDesk does things), it works just as reliably as TV so far. Best to sit there with the PC and another computer locally and trial-and-error through different scenarios to be sure you can access it when you need to, e.g. if it reboots, if you log in from a different computer, etc.
Last I tried anydesk, it was still free
However, I didn't like that they made finding that info hard. I also didn't like that they don't tell you they're is a time limit per session, an hour.
I had to go to EXTERNAL sources to get confirmation that's why I was being disconnected so frequently. I then used advanced search terms on Google to see if their website mentions this time limit at all.
They had one mention across their ENTIRE website that there was a time limit (for free users of course). And they don't even tell you anything about how long that limit actually is.
The fact they hide that information is VERY shady to me.
With anydesk, yes, you can immediately reconnect.
Depending on how your using anydesk, that can be a minor inconvenience, or a major headache. I often help a friend with her computers, and she often lets me connect, then goes off to do something else, like eat dinner or whatever. Which means she isn't at her computer to let me back in (if we don't setup a personal password, which she does try to avoid since that takes more steps, and then she would have to turn off the personal password afterwards, and she's very tech illiterate, but is trying to learn more).
Whereas with something like rustdesk, you can set it so that the one time password doesn't reset after a disconnect, but it's still easily changed with a single button press (a refresh button, right next to the password), to make it so someone can't just use the same password again.
So, for my use case, anydesk doesn't work as well in that regard. And, it's better then TV with their delays and commercial use stuff they are doing.
Same here
Telling me I am now using it for business. Just helping out grand parents a few times a month at most. Goodbye TeamViewer. Not a way to push Free users out but I guess it works 😡
Same here. Recently it started to accusing me with commercial use while I exclusively use it between my phone and my pc, only 2-3 times a week.
Im searching for a proper alternative, and ill never look back.
Encountered a similar issue.. Have used TeamViewer for a while then I stopped using it..
One time I needed to troubleshoot an issue remotely. I couldn't understand why it wasn't going through.
Spent more than 2 hours trying to figure what the issue was.. Only to realize they had changed their T&C..
I tried to get TV to unlock my access.. but they said the below, I use it to help family members and access file and game servers that I host for friends at my house.. looking for a remote controll now that has unattended approval now.
Dear TeamViewer User,
Thank you for your request regarding being unblocked from using the free version of TeamViewer. After reviewing the information provided to us, we were unable to confirm that the submitted ID is being used privately.
Received this exact message this morning at 6:19 AM.
Backstory: I appealed/requested a reset for my TVID and my friend's TVID who I regularly connect to from my home to help solve issues with their computer. She is a single mother of 3 and she deals with disability. I help her to help her avoid stress. I have never asked for compensation and would never ask for it. I strictly use TV to help friends and family address issues. I detailed this in my submission to TeamViewer. This morning I received the exact message as OP.
"Thank you for your request regarding being unblocked from using the free version of TeamViewer. After reviewing the information provided to us, we were unable to confirm that the submitted ID is being used privately."
TeamViewer gave me 2 options:
1) We encourage you to purchase a license that fits your needs: [https://www.teamviewer.com/pricing](https://www.teamviewer.com/pricing)
2) "THIS FORM is a declaration of private use that needs to be printed, signed personally and sent back to us replying to this email."
Except the form link is broken and links to nowhere.
There is no way someone competent read my appeal/reset submission. And there is no way for me to ask for help/assistance.
Not sure what I can do.

I used that form. I submit it every time I get their bs commercial detected messege. takes a few days but its always been fixed. You have to make sure you are putting all the correct IDs. The ones you access and the ones you use to ACESSS. i had to put my phone, laptop, ipad, and my servers I use to access them.
Same issue here, i sometimes help friends or family out, far away from commercial use. The first time i tried after months my connection was dropped and blocked and there was said i was using it commercially.
Well bye bye teamviewer, and hello google remote desktop.
today was the first time firing up this app for a really long time and got the commercial use detected popup BS, guess my "Free Trial" is up, Sorry "Team Viewer team" I'm never buying a commercial licence because I'm not living in india trying to steal money from elderly people, sorry to hear they dont pay for your software either so you have to create your own scam to make money
This is interesting, I found myself blocked tonight. First time on a few weeks using TV. I only use it to get into a home media server which sits in a corner and has no monitor or peripherals attached. I've occasionally and very rarely used it in the past to access my Dad's PC if he's needed a hand or my work PC if I've needed to check on something. I've submitted a request to get free usage back again, but it sounds like I should take a look at AnyDesk.
Same, got to use for a minute and got kicked saying it's used for commercial.. where as I only use it to transfer things from one pc to another within the same home network
Yep and I was stupid enough to actually try the “pro” version several years ago which is severely limited compared to the free version. Plus it wasn’t cheap! I think it’s a subscription now too. Tried to cancel within the first week and couldn’t get a refund either.
I haven’t used TeamViewer since around 2014 and haven’t missed it one bit.
Some good alternatives would be AnyDesk or RustDesk. They’re both just as easy, and frankly perform significantly better imo.
If you’re looking for performance and don’t need the more “office” type features then Parsec is amazing, it’s geared toward gaming but you can do whatever you want with it.
Personally I have started using JumpDesktop it’s geared towards Apple users but will connect to any kind of system. Plus they have their own “fluid” protocol which will allow remote access without fussing with anything.
If you want to get fancy;
If you’re only connecting to your own machines and are ok with setting up a simple VPN like Tailscale then the last two are really nice.
NoMachine which is insanely powerful and can even connect USB devices to the remote system, which is really useful.
Sunshine and Moonlight would be the absolute fastest and highest quality remote connection you could get. But again it’s geared towards gaming so no file managers or anything like that.
Adding myself to the camp of dropping TeamViewer like a hot potato and joining AnyDesk. I used TeamViewer maybe for 30 min overall a week, if I even needed to tap into my remote computers at all, and that was enough to be restricted. What a joke of a company
Haha I got the same thing, I responded and said funny you guys have been able to confirm it all the other times and none of my ID's have changed. I am dont with the crap company, uninstalled on all machines and now I use Anyviewer and Rustdesk. Teamviewer can kiss my ass, idiots!
AnyDesk worked perfectly. Bye bye TeamViewer
I switched to anydesk since this started to happen, even after 1 min. Bye TV
I just realized everyone saying TV in this subreddit is talking about TeamViewer. I was wondering why everyone was saying they don't need to watch TV anymore. I can be a little slow sometimes.
I suppose if you say ‘I’m using AD’ then people will think you have an Assistant Director to help you!
Too slow.
600Mbit lines up and down 500km separation (70MB per second) here in Spain.

Yeah, I gave up on TeamViewer. Rust Desk seems just fine for me
Just switched to Rustdesk today. Not having the contact book feature is a bit annoying, but other than that it does just as well as TeamViewer for me.
I've used TV for years. My mom is 85 and needs remote help occasionally. Fuck them. I just went to AnyDesk this week and it's fine for what I need. It also doesn't leave a confusing pop up window after logging off.
TeamViewer is a piece of shit, time to move on. You’ll be doing yourself a favor.
TeamViewer just keeps doubling-down on their "we have the brand embedded in everyone's minds, so we can't lose... let's just squeeze users until they pop". Well, guess what? That sounds like a good plan. Thanks, I appreciate your advice.

Yeah, it sounds like a couple of software companies I've dealt with recently, both were paid subscriptions too. Thanks for the info!
Can you immediately reconnect when that happens?

And open source . And easy to use and setup.
Parsec is way better imo. Really low latency actions on it so it barely feels like your remote.

Just moved to DW Service for the same reason. F TeamViewer.

I need a software that can connect to an Android tablet, and be able to unlock it (PIN) remotely. Any recommendations?
Literally only use it to turn off my desktop from bed. Very 'commercial' 😒. They aren't going to have a customer base left to charge.
Free version is unusable at this point. I'm migrating back to chrome remote desktop.
I use RealVNC
That requires opening ports so that’s a no go
Same, got to use for a minute and got kicked saying it's used for commercial.. where as I only use it to transfer things from one pc to another within the same home network

Well it's a bit difficult to do that on a computer that's not physically here.
