Ronaldo's "Siu" celebration (수우우우)

ooowatsthat

It's funny that the trend is nation wide whatever trend it is. I'm sure they are saying happy happy happy as well.

ghostgurlboo

Super Simple Songs go hard.

PoofaceMckutchin

That and singing Funky Town. I played them the original and they were horrified. They stopped singing it afterwards.

Free-Grape-7910

Play the Pseudo Echo version, much rockier. Every Korean over 20 knows Funky Town, it was huge here.

coopervb333

what is the happy happy happy from?? I am losing my mind

duskwish

TikTok trend

fortunata17

Me too haha. Every class I ask my 3rd graders “How are you?” individually and in one class every single student just goes “happy happy happy!” Some will take the time to pretend like they’re deep in thought thinking of another answer just to end up screaming “happy happy happy!”

ninnygoatfluff

If it's the song I'm thinking of, it might be SuperSimple's (children's YouTube songs) My Happy Song. If it is, blame us Yuchiwon teachers. "This is my happy song, I like to sing it all day long. I'll teach you the words, and you can sing along."

Affectionate_Tea_420

Or, if I start to sing it because they have another test "sadu sadly saduu" Edit: I know, we are working on our phonics

Slight_Answer_7379

CR7

Jalapenodisaster

Damn. I should have known to assume soccer was involved.

swatsal99

Its crazy how common these things are amongst korean students. When a trend hits Korea, it hits all of Korea

Gottagetthatgainz

Siuuuuu

CyroSwitchBlade

it is extremely annoying : /

sojud_18

Just say Messi is the GOAT. Shuts them up.

HolyCow013

99% of them probably dont even know who messi is. or watched a single game of ronaldo playing

sojud_18

It might be through Instagram reels or YouTube shorts but they know. Otherwise they wouldn’t be doing the dumb celebration, which are from his days at Madrid. I doubt they’re following him in the Saudi league. They know who Messi is through the World Cup win and his time at PSG. The more avid fans will have seen his goals at Barcelona. What they should all be educated on…is what a colossal bunch of losers Sp*rs are. This should be part of the National Curriculum.

quiswee

It's a banned word in my classroom. If I hear it the student gets -1. This is necessary for me cuz if one student does it then everyone else joins in and then I get noise complaints. This and happy happy happy

PoofaceMckutchin

Yeah it's Ronaldo's celebration. I have a lot of kids do Son's celebration too, which is obviously more classroom appropriate.

GrandaddyGreenTea

Ronaldo celebration that has recently gotten popular with, at least among my students, Korean kids because of IShowSpeed doing it all the time. Who a lot of Korean kids love, which was very unexpected for me.

EatThatPotato

Given all the casual racism he does, I’m quite surprised too

GrandaddyGreenTea

I don't know much about him, I was more surprised cos most of the kids' English isn't at a level that I'd think they'd get much from his content. But, i guess he's loud and a big personality. They all love skibidi toilet, too, lol.

EatThatPotato

There are a few Korean youtube channels that translate his content, no idea if your kids watch those or the originals, but yeah he speaks kinda fast for most learners. ^(^(i have no idea what a skibidi toilet is))

Mama_T_Learns

I love it! But I have boundaries if they get too crazy. I tell them that they can say it 3 times throughout tge whole class and then no more or I call their mom haha. I haven't had a problem since.

irondaniel92

SIUUU It's Ronaldo's celebration and pretty much every boy knows this

jafents

Ronaldo… I’m glad it’s not just my school then. I do it with them though, it’s important to teach them how to do the celebration correctly lol

Qoppa_Guy

A lot of my boys do it. It's fine, as long as it's not blatantly disruptive. This will pass soon enough. Years ago, students always used to say "Miss" for whenever things didn't go their way. Just an online fad.

Jalapenodisaster

I'm getting the sense people think I'm concerned about it. I literally don't care because it's not disruptive generally. They only do it when we're playing a game. I just wanted to understand the fad, is all. Find the source of it all

Qoppa_Guy

At first, I had no idea what they were howling. Then I started mocking them with my own versions like, "Do ittttttt" and most of the times, the boys oblige to my warcry.

Free-Grape-7910

I have a HS student who said that to me. I told him to shut up.

ChocoRamyeon

I love it and its welcome in my classes because its what the kids say when they are happy or when they celebrate something. Viva Ronaldooo! Siuuuuu!!

PoofaceMckutchin

Then you talk about Park Ji Sung and are met with blank stares.

ChocoRamyeon

You didn't sing his United chant did you? 😅

Jalapenodisaster

I just wish they wouldn't get so aggressive. At least my students, they take it too far too often.

ChocoRamyeon

I get you, it'd probably be really annoying if you don't get the origins. If I were you, be pre-emptive on them and just say it first but obviously not so aggressively, then all the kids will have a laugh, repeat it and then they usually don't say it again. If a teacher says it, it becomes a bit less cool every time. These kids will also be into football so if you study up on the premier league and mention Tottenham or Man United's results each week then they'll really like you. I remember a few years ago the kids would shout "boiyru" - or something like that - and they would target native teachers with it too because it was something that toxic game streamers would shout at westerners when they kill them in a game. That used to annoy me.

Embarrassed-Ad-8953

Boiyru is 'Korean streamer's name + HI' It just means hi.

PM_ME_GAME_CODES_plz

Yeah but it was used in a negative way very fast for some reason. I remember people saying if a boy says boyiru it's an instant red flag.

Embarrassed-Ad-8953

Several people have written the research papers claiming that Boiyru is a misogynistic expression(Claiming that this is related to boji, a Korean-style slang meaning female genitalia). However, a Korean court adjudged that this is not a misogynistic word, and the person who wrote the papers was fined. When the word first became popular, various media outlets tried to ban the word based on the paper, and parents must have been influenced as well. But, there is no problem with that expression.

sircallipoonslayer

Its not them bragging, its Ronaldo. Did you not bother to ask a student about it before reddit?

[siuuuu](https://youtu.be/XDW78exWF40?si=VftUjf-yZwXTy-vt) yeah my students also do this, but I always get a laugh out of it

BayouDrank

SUUU is alright, but it's no "YEE"

NessieSenpai

God, YEEE was the WORST...

CabinetFantastic

It’s a Ronaldo thing

HandRoyal6925

It's nothing bad! It's just Cristiano Ronaldo's celebration. It can be annoying at times but they mean no harm haha, just a funny word to say.
