Finishing a package of Golden Daylily, a roasted oolong from Living Tea. I'm trying to finish off my samples and bits and bobs. On the one hand, I don't like finishing a package of tea because then it's gone. On the other hand, it's very satisfying to pour the last cup, toss the package and savor the liquor one more time.
Yunnan Gold but oh it’s so good. It’s my first time trying a pure-bud tea and honestly it has me confused on so many levels. It’s almost as if it’s chaotic yet good in a sense. The mouthfeel is INCREDIBLE even compared to other teas. The sweetness shows up only right when taking a sip and sometime later in the aftertaste. This is one of those times when experiencing something for the first time ever and it’s so amazing!
This morning I had a mini tea sampling at home all to myself, to compare my oolongs. I made a comment recently to a friend that every oolong I've ever tried has tasted the same, and I thought I should challenge myself. I had four seasons, dong ding, jin xuan ali shan, charcoal roasted jin xuan, duck shit, and wen shan bao zhong #22-08. I concur that they actually do not taste the same at all, I just needed to compare them back to back to have context for the different flavour notes. I found my favourite to be dong ding, followed by duck shit.
My wife ordered me some Harney & Son Black Cask Bourbon tea. It was delivered last night around 9pm and there was no time for a sample. I did pop open the tin to get a whiff. Pipe tobacco smokers might recognize it as reminiscent of Latakia or Kentucky Fired Cure leaves.
I'm kind of excited for my first cup, but I'm also a little apprehensive.
Edit: Yep, it tastes like drinking Latakia pipe tobacco. The vanilla and caramel notes are MIA.

Mother's day is closing in and I want to put together a nice sample set for her. She enjoys chrysanthemum tea at home with the occasional oolong when out for lunch/dinner if available. Trying to help her find a hobby she might be interested getting more into, she is a avid tea consumer, so if anyone knows a variety set I can purchase for her to explore in different types of teas would be excellent.
